In the Mac App Store following a re install of Mountain Lion the apps I want to put on the new installation are showing as being already installed. This is probably due to me not using Migration Assistant. I wanted a completely fresh install though.
I have tried to reset the details of bought apps but no joy as yet.
Anyone any ideas about how I can sort this out so I can do a re intall of Final Cut Pro and other Apps.
I could comnpy them across from the back ups I made before doing the update, but will that work properly?

I found another thread with some information and it seems that the thing to do is to disconnect all other drives where you have apps. I still had the SuperDuper backup connected I made before I started the re install and as soon as I took that off the Mac App Store was showing true.

I purchased and installed Family Tree Maker for Mac from the App Store about 6 months ago. I heard that possibly a new version was coming, though I had not received any update notice. I went to the App Store and it no longer shows the app, either as available for purchase or as an app I have previously purchased. So I can't get any information on the app, support, etc.. How can an app I have purchased disappear from the purchased list??? How can I get update information or support links? (contacted FTM website and phone support and they said if I bought my program from App store, I have to get update information there).....the Update Info button in my program is actually greyed out!! So the program I bought doesn't even have the normal update link!! I thought one of the advantages of App Store purchase was being able to redownload the program in the unlikely event it was lost....ie: no need to worry about having the install CD. So now I only have my installed, operating copy and no way to reinstall if it crashes due to corrupt data, etc.!! Not a happy result from an App Store purchase! And I must say the circular references in the support link are frustarting...apparently there is NO live support for the App Store itself!

Thanks for THAT tip: iTunes acct. history DOES show my (few) Mac app purchases, buried in with my MANY iPhone and iPad apps! So I CAN prove I bought it (7 months ago, not 6), but you wouldn't know it from the App Store app on my Mac! But that does leave a few other ?'s hanging: like how could I download it again, or check for updates (as I said, the version installed has the "update" button greyed out! Ancestry.com (who sells it online and support it for other buyers said update info for App Store purchasers comes through the App Store.
I may just be out of luck with this because after 7 months of ownership, they (Ancestry) just replaced FTM with a new version (Family Tree Maker for Mac2) that is NOT an upgrade (though prior owners get $4.00 off on a $52.00 purchase!!). I'll probably just plump for that....direct from Ancestry.com...and give up on the Mac App Store, because the new version reportedly has major enhancements in sync-ing your family history record between your computer and the cloud program available online. Genealogy software, like everything else is migrating to the cloud, but one really does need a resident program on their device because you're often collecting data "in the field" in libraries, historical archives, cemeteries, etc. where you really can't get online in many cases. Fortunately, more and more of the source data is coming online, so more and more can be done from home!

Reboot holding down the Command and R keys. This will get you in to the Recovery partition. From there you can reinstall the entire OS. Please note, Server.app will not be included in the reinstall. You will need to log into your App store account to download it.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

App Store MAC Updates download and install, yet show as needing Update

I have, 4 times now, selected UPDATE on two apps that show as having free updates. they do so and tell me they are installing, and the buttons change to installed.
Then I quit App Store, to find the red button with 2 in it re-appears and I start the process again.
Never had this issue on iPad.

Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Now open the LIbrary folder then the Caches folder.
Move these files to the Trash: com.apple.appstore and com.apple.storeagent
Now from the same Library folder open the Preferences folder. Move these files to the Trash.
com.apple.appstore.plist and com.apple.storeagent.plist
Same Library folder, open the Cookies folder. Move this file to the Trash.
com.apple.appstore.plist
If you don't see the com.apple.storeagent files, don't worry about it.
Restart your Mac. See if that made a difference.

FaceTime is included in Lion. The App Store version is for 10.6. If you deleted it, restore it from a backup, or reinstall the Mac OS.

OS X Mavericks: Reinstall OS X Heres the link if anyone else had the same problem!! This is if you deleted not only the Mac App Store, but iTunes, Calendar, whatever came with the Mac (Apps that came already installed on the Mac), if you deleted one of those then you have to reinstall the Mac OS, Note: This one is for Mac OS X (Maverick) my version is 10.9.4, go to that link and follow the instructions if you have Mac OS X (Maverick). Other help: Common Mistake: If you delete the app from the dock then just go to finder and applications folder and drag the app back onto the dock(it was just deleted from the dock NOT your system/computer). Do you have the disks that came with the old Mac? If you do you can install the iApps from one of those disks.
Otherwise, what Mac model do you have? Go the the  ➙ About This Mac menu and then click on More Information. In the System Information under Hardware you'll find Model Name. What is the model? I'tll be something like Macbook 5,2.

You can buy and install on all your IOS devices, and separately buy and install on all OSX devices, so 2 purchases.

Lion installed but Mac App Store says install

I have a 2009 MacBook and a 2006 iMac on which I have upgraded to Lion via the Mac App Store. Recently, the Mac App Store started saying "Install" next to Lion. I pressed "Install" and Lion re-downloaded and re-installed but the Mac App Store still says "Install" next to Lion but clearly Lion was installed before and after (10.7.3). ????

It may be that the Lion installer has been downloaded to your Mac but it hasn't yet been run. Look for it in the Dock or in the Applications folder. If you see it there, launch it to install Lion.

I recently changed hard drives on my iMac. Now the AppStore says I have apps installed that I did indeed purchase, on my old hard drive. How do i get AppStore to install them on my NEW hard drive?

The MAS can read apps that are installed on attached HDDs. Do you have the apps on a backup that is connected to your Mac.

1. Will pre-App Store installed Applications be eligible for upgrade monitoring? My hunches tell me 'no,' but it would be nice.
2. I don't like the fact that Customer Reviews for an app is only available if you purchased it via the App Store. It would be nice if I could review apps that are recognized as "Installed" on my machine as well.

The App Store relies on the Bundle ID and the Version Number of your already installed Application to 'match' that of the version that is on the App Store.
So if one or both of these numbers is different, the App Store will not 'match' them and show you it is installed.
This will only come online, once the developer of the App makes there 'old' way of updating the same as the version they have supplied the App Store with, presumably, this will happen with time.
My example was Text Wrangler. It showed not installed even though it was on my computer, I did the update of the software the 'old' way and still not showing installed. Having a look, the developer updated me to version 3.2 the 'old' way, but had given the App Store version 3.5, so the version numbers were not matching. This being a Free app. I installed it from the App Store, it over wrote the 'old' install I had on my computer and once that was complete, the app Store showed it as installed.
So until the developers (including Apple developers) bring their 'old' updates inline with what they have supplied the App Store, they will not show up correctly on the Store.
That being said, nearly every Application has a 'check for updates' section and most of these can be set up to be automatically checking, so as long as the developers continue to support this 'old' style of updating, your apps will still stay current.

If you have already updated to Pages 5.2 on your Mac, you may be trying to open the file with a previous version of Pages. If this is the case, you have two versions of Pages on your Mac & are trying to open Pages 5 documents with Pages 4. Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there then right-click on the Dock icon & select Options > Keep in Dock.
Installing new versions of iWork has never replaced existing versions. This is nothing new. The only thing new is that the '09 apps are moved to an iWork '09 folder if they were purchased from the Mac App Store. If they were installed from disk they should already be in a separate folder in Applications.

Stuck in a limbo: can't install Safari or Lion/Mountain Lion, can't access App Store

If someone would take up this challenge and attempt to solve it with me, I would appreciate it! I have troubleshooted for 2 days now to no avail.
This is what happened:
1) I accidentally installed Safari 6.0, even if I have Lion 10.7. which doesn't run the new version
2) This disabled my use of Safari and my access to App Store
3) With a combination of AppDelete + Pacifist I tried deleting all Safari files, and re-installing old Safari 5.4 from scratch.
I rebooted, repaired permissions and did a disk check.
4) Rebooted again, tried to open the newly installed Safari, but it gives an error:
"Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X."
5) At this point I thought to revert back to a previous point in Time Machine. Unfortunately all the points in Time Machine somehow showed Safari 6.0 (even a month-old points), so reverting back to an old point didn't help.
6) I try logging into AppStore to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but I can't do that, since it needs Safari to run and I don't have a Safari anymore!
7) Now I tried re-installing Lion from restart + cmd+R, and it asked for Apple ID to start the installation.
--> At this point I am getting desperate, as this computer was purchased second-hand, so I don't have the Apple ID used to install Lion!
8) I try searching for Apple's official support, but obviously my warranty has expired, besides it's based in another country so they can only call cellphones from that country!
So I cannot enter App Store; reinstall Safari; reinstall Lion; or upgrade to Mountain Lion. I have no access to Apple official support. I currently work in a developing country with limited access to any MAC support.
I don't know what to try anymore!
- How can I enter App Store without Safari?
- How can I reinstall Lion without the original Apple ID?
- How can I upgrade to Mountain Lion without App Store?
I'm STUCK! Please help!!

I finally managed to download the newest combo update and installed it successfully!
However Safari still doesn't open. It keeps saying the following:
Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
I also finally got access to App Store: but the download of Mountain Lion doesn't complete, because it seems to need Safari.
So I'm still stuck with the two issues:
i) Safari doesn't work, and I can't get it to work unless I can reinstall/upgrade the OS.
ii) I can't upgrade the OS without Safari!
--- unless someone knows a way to install Lion/Mountain Lion _without_ Safari??

Yes, on iPhone, but ok on iPad. It says I have 12 Updates, but doesn't say what they are. I sync'd with iTunes on the Mac and everything is up to date there. I think if there are no Updates in iTunes, then you are up to date. It may be an issue with Notifications. I'm turning Alerts off in iPhones Notifications settings for now so I don't have to look at the number. Welp, now it says 11 Updates.

App store not installing any application

Since OS X Mavericks came out, I've been trying to install in from the app store. But for some reason it doesn't seem to be working. I get the option to signin (which appears to succeed). Upon clicking "Free Upgrade" the button turns green into "Install App". However upon clicking "Install App", it appears to be making effort to connect to apple store but after 15-20 second seems to give up and nothing else really happens. Since then I've been trying to install any other free application and getting the same behavior. Anyone else who has experienced this and any steps to recover from it?

Hey there, that's a tricky one. Could be network related but others experiencing the same issue are sometimes able to install Mavericks using an entirely new user account on their Mac (creating a new user from System Preferences> Users and Groups), this user can be discarded after the Mavericks install. If not you may find that you have many incomplete downloads in the /Library/Updates folder. If so you may have success by clearing the contents of this folder (while the Mac App Store is quit entirely), relaunching the App Store and reattempting. Good Luck!
