Re-install iLife without CD

I had to re-install Mac OS X version 10.5.8 with the erase and install clean option. Now I do not have iLife on my macbook, the only CD's I have are Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and 2. I understand with the original macbook I had license to use this but now I am just missing the CD.
How do I fix this ? Any ideas..please help

If those are the 10.5 gray disks that came with the MacBook.
iLife is on the #2 disk.

  • How to upgrade Tiger and install iLife without a hi-speed connection?

I recently sold my 17" iMac G4 to an internet buyer who wants to edit movies. The last thing I did was reinstall Tiger, erasing all of my files to provide the buyer with a clean slate. First, I'm not sure whether this installation would include iLife and, if so, which version? I included with the computer a Tiger disc and iLife '06. The buyer loves the machine but writes that it tells her she can't install iLife '06 without upgrading her version Tiger, which requires a high-speed connection.
Is she interpreting things correctly? Is there any way to download the Tiger upgrades if you don't have DSL or cable? If not, is there any way to install iLife '06 in lower (earlier) versions of Tiger?
(Finally, might I have cause to breathe somewhat easier knowing that she has at least some version of iLife as a result of my installing the original Tiger?)
Thanks for any tips that I might pass on to a truly grateful buyer and new Apple convert,
    Cap

If she has a friend, library, internet cafe with a BB connection, even a PC, she can get the Updates from apple>downloads without Software Update, then use a CD or memory stick to take to her computer.
You could download all the updates, burn em to a CD/DVD and mail it to her!?

  • Installing iLife '11 on MacBook Pro with no Disc Drive

I bought a 2nd hand late 2012 Macbook Pro with Retina Screen. I reinstalled from a Time Machine back up. This laptop should have come with iLife '11 but since it has no superdrive it didn't come on a DVD with the laptop, so how do I get iLife '11 without just buying it off the app store?

If it's second hand then it cannot come with OS X, iWork, or iLife because they are all attached to the Apple ID and password of the seller. If you want iLife you will have to purchase your own copy from the App Store or already own your own copy of iLife.
If the seller was smart enough to remove the computer from the list of registered devices at Apple, then you may be able to re-register it under your name which would enable you to install iLife without having to purchase it. If you have used iLife on your other computer, then you can re-download it freely for this computer.

  • Install iLife on 2nd hand MAC Pro running 10.7.5

Hi, please forgive my ignorance, as I'm not at all tech savvy.
I've found a few threads which come close-ish to what I'm looking for, but I'm feeling a little timid and uncertain about proceeding, so I do hope some kind person can help me understand what I need to do.
The situation is - after almost 7 years, (and three hard drives!) my iMAC has yet again given up the ghost.
My husband has come home with a second hand Mac Pro, purchased refurbished, as is, from his place of work.
This is the machine I'm currently working on, having just got it all set up and net connected.
The issue is, I desperately need to have access to my iLife software, especially iPhoto, and iDVD, as I am up against a tight schedule to produce a slide show tribute for a funeral service a day an a half from now.
The Pro does not have any of these applications installed.
It was sold to us without any installation discs - I assume because it came from an office where a large number of machines would have been running on a network.
I thought, no probolem, I'll just get into the app store and pay for the downloads.
Unfortunately, the available versions require a later version of the OS.
The iMAC I owned prior - the one that just failed on me - originally came bundled with Tiger, and included the iLife apps.
I later purchased and upgraded to Snow Leopard.
I still have my tiger and Snow Leopard discs.
Is it possible to safely install my iLife applications from somewhere on my older licensed install discs, without interfering with the OS on the new (old, but new to me) MAC Pro?
If so, how do I go about this?
I'm sorry to ask such basic level questions. I think I can do this, but my experience levels are not much past total newbie, and I'm worried about messing something up and being left with no functioning machine again, right at a time when I desperately need everything working smoothly.
Thanks in anticipation of your help.

    Further to the above.
After a bit of poking about, I now believe iLife may in fact have been pre-installed on the iMAC and therefore not on the install discs.
I have no problems buying new versions, if only they were compatible with my curret OS.
Likewise, I'd be happy to buy the Lion OS, or any later version comapible with this Pro, just to have a valid copy.
ALso, so that I have reinstall capability if the system goes down.
Problem is, I need the applications now, and I don't know whether any stores in my area would be open tomorrow and able to sell me the discs. I haven't really got the time for the 2 - 3 hur round trip to get to the nearest vendor that just might be open. If I had a few days up my sleeve, it wouldn't be an issue, but I have to make this slide show and create a playable DVD of it within the next 24 hours.

  • Re-install iLife after MacBook factory restore ?

Hey guys ..... after a little help please.
I have just reset my MacBook to factory settings by wiping the HD and re-installing Snow Leopard. The OS has reinstalled fine and the computer is now behaving like a brand new machine (ie. the "welcome" show that plays on bootup )
My question is can I now reinstall iLife without going through the setup process on the machine ? I will be selling this computer very soon and want it to appear as it would out of the box.
Is there a way to do this ?
Thanks heaps .. All help appreciated.

when I click on the "install OSX and bundled software" icon and restart the machine im still getting grey screen, black screen, grey screen, black screen as the machine is trying to reboot.
Since the machine currently has a newer OS installed, you probably need to erase the hard drive again and reinstall completely fresh, from the gray disks.  If that doesn't work, then the disks have probably gotten damaged somehow, which leaves you in a bit of a pickle.  Legally, you can't sell the machine with software that you're not including disks for.  Apple will replace the gray disks for a small fee, but you'd have to wait for them to arrive, or you could get a copy of SL for $29 and let the buyer know they'll need to get replacement gray disks from Apple.  Or you could wipe the drive, sell it as-is and let the buyer know about the lack of system and disks, though that will affect the price people will be willing to pay.
I just thought it would be best to take the computer back to its original state, as it shipped, to sell.
It is, and you absolutely should be commended for that.  Most people just slap the machine in a box, with no disks and with all their junk still on the hard drive.  The only place you went wrong was using the wrong disk!

  • Install CD's and/or re-installing 'Panther' without them?

    Hi,
I can't find my Install CD's and my iBook doesn't start up anymore. I get the 'loading-screen', but after that the screen just stays blue. Now I've tried everything they advise you to do in Support, nothing works though. So of course the next step would be to use my Install CD's, which I can't find anymore. I've recently purchased a SmartDisk and I've been able to save the files I don't want to loose through Target Disk Mode and a friend's iBook. He said I could borrow his Install CD's, but he's got a 14" and I think it's 'younger' than mine. This would mean it wouldn't work, right? Besides, it might even be illegal, or not? What I was wondering is whether I can still use Disk Utility via those CD's or will that fail as well?
And if so, can I make a CD with my iBook that enables me to install Panther without my original Install CD's? And if so (these are a lot of 'ifs', I know), how can I save, for instance, the iLife that was on those original CD's, can I just copy the application to my external hard drive and then put them back afterwards?
I've given Apple a call to ask how much it would cost to buy a new Install CD and it was €95 (about $115)! So if anyone can help, I'd be very much obliged!
    Thanks!
    Kevin
    iBook 12 inch   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

If your friend's iBook is a "Late 2005" and yours is an "Early 2004", then his iBook would have come with Mac OS X 10.4. This copy of 10.4 will not install on any other kind of computer. However, you could buy a retail copy of Mac OS X 10.4. This would not get you the AppleWorks or iLife that originally came with your iBook, however. You could also buy a retail copy of iLife, but with the two purchases together, it would be cheaper to pay Apple for copies of your correct disks...
Although I'm not sure how I can find the processor speed without my iBook working.
If you open the keyboard, there will be a sticker inside that has some information about your iBook. It should say something like "1.2GHz G4/512/40/AP/BT". That would be a 1.2GHz G4 with 512MB of RAM (built-in), a 40GB hard drive, an AirPort card, and Bluetooth.

  • I've bought a secondhand iMac and can't install iLife

I've bought a secondhand iMac. Since the previous owner's AppleID is related to this iMac, I reinstalled the iMac with the help of Apple supportdesk. Now everything should be clean and I want to install iLife with my AppleID, but I get an error trying to do so. I click on accept and fill in my AppleID en password, but it says that the app is allready assigned to an other AppleID and therefor I have to buy iLife. And even if I should want to buy the software (which I don't want to, because it is part of this Lion-version), I can't buy it.
So my question is, does someone knows how to attach my AppleID to this iMac and all of it's software/App store?
I've also talked with AppleSupport and raised a ticket. And in the reply via mail there was no solution other than go to this community.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Dave,
Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately I don't have the installation disk, he said he bought it without any.
I've done a clean install of Lion with my own AppleID, so why is the AppleID of the previous owner still in here?
I've tried to purchase iLife, but that is also not possible. I keep on getting into a circle...
If you didn't erase the drive before reinstalling, that's probably why the previous owner's Apple ID is still being shown. When dealing with second-hand equipment, it's almost always a good idea to erase the drive (I even prefer to do a "zero all data" as a precaution and test of the drive) and then reinstall everything. That ensures both that any software you install you have a license for and that no malicious software could possible remain.
What does the Mac App Store say when you try to repurchase iLife?

  • Error installing iLife 09 - "run preflight script for Registration"

    Hi,
I am trying to install iLife 09 and am getting the error above (run preflight script for registration) and cant figure out how to fix it. I have run a permissions repair, rebooted and it just doesnt want to let me install. My Install.app is present in /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app and have installed all the latest updates for 10.5
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I'm having the same problem. I cannot instal Ilife on my new Imac.
I first tried to install all programs together via the installation guide. but it kept crashing without any reason.
after that I tried to install each program seperately via the customized installation guide but again the installation guide crashed.
for each program the following messages appeared:
run preflight script for iphoto, Imovie etc.
So what can I do about this. The warning message said I had to contact the manufacturer.
    Thanks

  • How NOT to Install iPhoto 11, when installing iLife 11

With the very many issue's I'm seeing throughout these iPhoto 11 discussions,
Is there way to ONLY install GarageBand and iMovie from the iLife 11 disc?
I installed iLife 11 on a test machine (my Mac Mini) and I'm not happy with iPhoto 11.
BEFORE I install this on my iMac 24 (with over 24,000 real pictures, with tons of edits, keywords and organization throughout),
I'd like to NOT install iPhoto 11, while installing the balance of the disc.
    Possible?....How, please?
    Thank You, In Advance

In all fairness, when I stated that I don't like iPhoto '11, it was not because of bugs, or lost photo library's or issues installing. My install went perfect and without a hitch.
I dislike iPhoto '11 because I don't like the reduced functionality built into iPhoto '11. The elimination of features and the loss of a more productive and flexible application that iPhoto '09 is, over iPhoto '11, is why I'm not installing it.
Here are my four examples, at minimum. Of course, if you don't use these features, then like ladymac, you will be pleased with iPhoto '11. Like they say, ignorance is bliss.
    1) The elimination of Keywords under each picture.
This is huge for me, with over 24,000 pictures and growing. Putting the Keyword off to the side, and ONLY viewable one picture at a time is not sane. With an extensive use of keywords across 24,000 pictures, I can easily tag and find pics. But if you don't use keywords, or never used them, ignorance is bliss.
    2) The elimination of "exporting" to mail. This would allow you to re-size pics at your discretion. Attach more than 10 pics at a time. 20, 30, 40 pics or more are possible under iPhoto '09. And deciding NOT to use their stationary. OR to use their stationary. If you never had this flexibility and choice, ignorance is bliss.
    3) The elimination of TRUE FULL SCREEN editing and viewing. This allows you to view any picture without tool bars or buttons alongside or underneath the picture. If you never edited this way, again, ignorance is bliss.
    4) The color gamut produced under iPhoto '11 is off. I expect this is a bug OR Apple has decided that they feel the colors in iPhoto '11 are a better representation than those under '09. If you can't tell the difference, again, ignorance is bliss.

  • Installing iLife 08 was a HUGH MISTAKE, how do I now disable iPhoto?

If I had known prior to installing iLife 08 that iPhoto was going to restrict access to the iPhoto Library from all other programs I would never had installed iLife 08 in the first place! I have Photoshop CS3 with Bridge but now I can't access the iPhoto Library with anything other than iPhoto! I'd prefer to use Bridge so how do I now disable the iPhoto portion of iLife so I can (permanently) regain access to the library of photos I have stored there?

    imacpaul
iPhoto does not restrict access to all other programs.
If you prefer to use Bridge then simply right click on the iPhoto Library pkg. file in the Finder and go 'Show package Cotents'. You will see all your pics in there, exactly as in v6. You can simply drag them out and arrange them as you please.
If you're still interested in using iPhoto: There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software (such as Bridge) or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.
Of course, if you set PS as an external editor in the iPhoto preferences, then you can round-trip pics from iPhoto to PS and back again, without using Bridge.
However, if you wish to use two organisers (Bridge and iPhoto) then your best option is to do the file management yourself: Create a new library and in iPhoto Preferences uncheck the 'Copy Files to iPhoto Library...' box at Advanced. Then you can create your own file structure and iPhoto will reference the files there. But be aware that if you choose this option importing and delteing pics are multi-stage operations and migrating to a new machine or HD can be more complex.

  • Installing iLife 08 and downloading iMovie 06

    Hello to all.
I just bought iLife 08 and will be installing it soon. My plan is to install iLife 08 and then download iMovie 06 from the Apple site because the new iMovie 08 only runs on an Intel processor or on a G5 Mac. Besides, from what I have read, the iMovie version 06 version is better than the new one (depending on your preferences) in that it retains the same interface as before.
My Mac is a G4 (733) with an external DVD burner.
My question is when I download and install the iMovie 06 application, will it overwrite my old iMovie 2.0 application or will I have both versions in my application folder? I would like to keep the original 2.0 version on my hard drive because it has served my purposes quite well. Also will the movies I already have in my movie folder be automatically updated to the new version or will my saved movies retain the characteristics of the old original version in which they were created?
Thanks for any assistance you can give.
    Rich

My question is when I download and install the iMovie 06 application, will it overwrite my old iMovie 2.0 application or will I have both versions in my application folder?
I doubt there are many out there who have actual experience doing this. My guess would be no since the v6.0.4 download is installed in it's own separate folder named "iMovie (previous version)."
Also will the movies I already have in my movie folder be automatically updated to the new version or will my saved movies retain the characteristics of the old original version in which they were created?
Once again, no practical experience on my part here, but would expect it be able to read previous versions. As to how many previous versions without intermediate conversions -- well, that might be a different matter. Certainly wouldn't hurt to try since you will likely still have iMovie v2 even if the old projects can't be read.

  • Problem installing iLife '08

I had a 10.5 (latest) Mac with iMovie from iLife '08.
THIS MAY BE IRRELEVANT, BUT FOR THE SAKE OF COMPLETION:
I ran Migration Assistant to move a number of user accounts, and also brought over applications. Prior to doing so, I placed all the apps on a new machine in a subfolder. This way all the old apps were brought over (without using the automated 'keep newer version' feature); I later deleted all the apps that were older, or the same version.
The Mac apparently has a free version of iMovie '08. 714 (585). This version won't open projects made in the iLife '08 version. I tried to install iLife '08 (as an administrator), but iMovie, etc., were all greyed-out and I couldn't install. Do I need to uninstall the free iMovie (etc.) first? Or is the problem something else? thanks

  • Ilife 8.1 support and then install ilife 06 ok?

I have installed iWork '08 recently. The iLife Support 8.0 showed up afterwords, which I installed. Then, when iLife Support 8.1 came out, I installed it. As of yet, I do NOT have any iLife product installed except for the free iTunes. There must be something in iWork that requires one of the components from the ilife support update.
My question is this. Can I still install iLife '06 now without over writing anything that the iLife Support updates installed??

  • Inability to install iLife software program

[I have searched this web site from top to bottom...where do we go to communicate with support?]
I use an eMac 1 GHz Pwr PC G4 w/512 MB SDRAM and an 80 GB hard drive installed. Somewhat over 60 GB of hard disk is available. I do have a super drive DVD installed. I do have Quick Time 7.2 on my system.
I have Symantec AntiVirus software that blesses the iLive software disc. I DISABLE the NAV and run a "cold boot" of the system so that nothing should interfere with installation.
I attempt to run the "Install iLife" program, a dialog box comes up & tells me that iMovie will not work on my system and won't be installed. I click OK and all is well...until I reach somewhere in the region of 80% installed on the iPhoto program. At that point, everything quits and, after the appropriate time, a dialog box comes up and says: "There were errors installing the software! Please try installing again." (and again, and again, etc.)
As near as I can tell, the installation should go without a hitch.

    tamori:
Your first mistake is having Symantic on your Mac. Symantic gave up supporting Mac OS back around 9,maybe 10.1. It's considered to be one a dangerous item to have on current Macs. Do a search in the Tiger forum for Symantic and you'll see what I mean.
Have you checked out the system requirements for iLife 06?
    System Requirements
    • Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor; iMovie requires a Mac with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster; iDVD requires a 733MHz or faster processor.
    • 512MB of RAM; 1GB recommended
    • Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later
    • 3GB of available disk space
    • DVD drive for installation
    • QuickTime 7.2 or later
You might try using Pacifist to locate and install individual application packages on the iLife 08 disk.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
