Re-install Mail.app?

How do I re-install the Mail.app? I can't find the download for it. I've got some sort of gremlins in my program that is deleting ALL my messages. Is this risky?

HI,
Try rebuilding the Mailbox first as I suggested here.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2347032&tstart=0
Reinstalling the Mac Mail app won't help.
If rebuilding the Mailbox didn't help, try restarting your Mac.
If that doesn't help,
Go to the Mac Mail Menu Bar, click Mail/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Mail. N
Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail. If the mailbox functions as it should, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • How to re-install mail app (snow leopard)?

I accidently trahsed the mail app that some of my mail files are deleted as well as my Outgoing Mail Server was deleted.
How to re-install my mail app and will it recover the mail files and fix my outgoing mail server?
WIll it make me send mail? How to make my Outgoing Mail Server NOT offline?

Restore from your Time Machine backup to get the app and messages back. If you have not been backing up then you have lost all of your email's. You can use Pacifist to re-install the Mail App though, you can find Pacifist at:

  • Need to re-install mail app

mail.app got corrupt. I need to re-install the mail app from the OSX disk.  I am running OSX 10.6.8 due to a software update.  The disk that came with my system is 10.6.7 and when I try installing the mail.app it tells me that it is not allowed to run with this version of OSX?  Is there a way around this without the need to wipe the entire system?  Looking for someone who has success in re-installing the mail.app.
    Thanks,
    Brian

You don't need to reinstall Mail, unless you deleted it.

Some have reported success simply by reinstalling the update.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1586
Or download and apply, or reapply, the 10.6.8 Combo update first, then apply the Security Update again.

I'd suggest starting with the simplest of these fixes, so look them over first.

  • Cannot Re-Install Mail App

My mail app crashed and stopped working.
After lots of research, I realized that the best option would be to re-install the Mail App.
    *Installation Disk> Optional Installs> Optional Installs.mpkg*
When the Costume Install page, all the options are unchecked. I cannot check any of them(Including Mail) and there is a "skip" message next to them.
Why is this happening? What am I doing wrong?

Then, I suspect a damaged installer. I just checked mine and it works. Try using Pacifist as described in http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9044169#9044169 to extract it.

  • Help with re-installing mail app

Will I lose mail messages if I delete and re-install the apple mail app?    It appears to be operating erratically and I think this may help.
also, my computer appears not to be fixable via utillity disk and recovery HD.. so this may also be the problem.

If you are using Windows Mahcine then go to control panel and uninstall the lightroom properly from there.
If you are using MAC then go to /Applications/Utilities/Adobe installers and find the uninstaller of lightroom and double click the same to uninstall.
If still you are not able to uninstall the application completly then use CS cleaner tool to uninstall the software. you can download CS cleaner tool from : http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

  • Newly installed Mail app has just gone WILD!!!

Everything was fine in Mail until I created a new accounts for my new MobileMe email address. Now I have these problems:
    1. I can no longer send mail from the .mac aliases, only from the main account. My password, even though identical to the main password, is not accepted on the aliases.
    2. I am getting two, three or more copies of every email, and not just new ones; even my emails from last year are being duplicated.
    3. When I receive email from one particular address I get a copy every second or so, without limit. This makes my computer very hot and I have to dispose of the extras quickly and then quit as soon as possible. It's a mail merged email with an embedded rota which I have generated myself from a website I help to run and has always performed perfectly well in the past. My internet connection appears to be running at normal speed, however. Today I sent one which appeared as sixteen emails before I clicked the triangle to open the folder. It then became 164! Rebuilding the mailbox has little effect. I think it may have stopped one message duplicating but it certainly didn't work today.
The scariest part of all this (apart from losing email like I'm keeping it in a colander) is that while this email is busy multiplying in my inbox, a selection of my 2008 emails is being sent to people on the list; in the middle of the duplicating file mayhem my husband 'phoned from work to complain that he was receiving my old email at the same sort of rate that I was receiving copies of the rota.
And then my daughter complained the same was happening to her. And then I found I'd had it all emailed to me as well - so now the old emails I haven't lost are sitting there, apparently unread, with incorrect dates and five or six copies of each one! I'm wondering how many of my friends have been treated to a selection of fifty or so of my old emails and what I might have written about them in 'confidence'! Not that I'm given to mouthing off about people in emails but without reading them all I wonder just what might be in them.
    4. When I try to delete the second, third and fourth copies of other emails I will suddenly find that other unselected emails, usually from just below in the list, have disappeared along with them and I have to retrieve them from the trash. The alternative is to click 'Undo' but I have to do that about three times before the missing file reappears - and then I have to try and re-delete three files without losing any others in the process. This is hopeless - it's one step forwards and three steps backwards. I also have to memorise which files are around the one I wish to delete before carrying out the action so I will know if anything else has gone.
    5. A few days ago I tried to open Mail and found that ALL my email for this year had disappeared. I found some mail from mid July to August in the bin, but all my other 2008 mail was gone. 2007 is still there. I opened it today and found that a random remnant of my 2008 email was in my inbox, but only about a twentieth of the original contents.
    6. I'm so glad I still have Entourage installed on my old computer because it's working just fine, apart from the issue I've outlined under point 1. I've retrieved all sorts of important emails from it.
This copy of Mail should be working very well. I only did a fresh system install on a new hard drive about a month ago and everything else is working fine (except a couple of finder windows that just vanished suddenly the other day).
Sorry this is long but I've tried to put several entries into one post. I originally posted this on the wrong forum - it was for MobileMe Mail, but I didn't notice the enclosing folder which was MobileMe on iPhone and iPod Touch; I am using MobileMe on my MacBook Pro. Space Herpes suggested I repost it on this forum to get more help. I had six copies of the email notification of his post so I am going ahead as this HAS to get sorted!

I've left it for a few days before responding because for some reason I hardly got any email for a couple of days and it didn't seem to be completely fixed at first as my rules took a while to kick in again and some junk appeared in my inbox. I've also been too busy to worry about it this week - daughter is starting Uni at the weekend and it's all a mad panic to set her up to move out! Apologies that I posted this on the first thread where this question went before I was prompted to move it to a more appropriate place. I didn't realise I was on the wrong board.
I have had a fair amount of messages today and I'm pleased to say I've only had one copy of everything and the subjects are back to normal - so thank you very, very much as you seem to have solved my problems. I notice that I only have the account for my [email protected] email address and I do wonder whether I need to have an account for the xxxxxx.me.com address as well? Was that possibly responsible for some of the duplicates? Are they interchangeable in Mail?
Despite the fix I do still have the corruption in my inbox, though. I've lost many, many emails and all the problems I mentioned before seem to be permanent in my 2008 mail. I have loads of duplicate copies and the subjects are all mixed up. I also have quite a few recent messages that didn't get downloaded from the server because it thought I was offline.
On my old computer I have everything as it was before. Would it be possible to copy them across somehow without losing my sent mail from this computer - or should I just be content to go to my old computer if I want to refer to anything I've lost?

  • How do I re-install mail app?

My mail application is completely screwed up: it re-sends old messages to people and it's becoming a HUGE problem. It's completely random but it happens at least once a day. I'm also having trouble with attachments -- i often can't open them (even though it's just a file or something).
I would like to trash the application and just re-install it. Does anyone know how to do this?

The easiest way is to use a program called "Pacifist." It allows individual packages to be installed. Just Google the program name and mac and download it. ($20 shareware and totally worth it)
Use your original OSX 10.4 install disk and run pacifist and re-install the mail package using Pacifist. Download any updates (ie: OS X 10.4.5 combined) and repeat the process with the updated mail application included in the combination package.
You will now have a fresh, current install of mail.

  • Mail.app crashes on launch consistently

Up until yesterday, my upgrade to Mountain Lion had been completely smooth.  Today when I launch mail, it crashes consistently on thread 0.  So I did the Windows rule of rebooting first off.  no joy
I tried restoring the app via Time Machine and it crashes as well so the problem cause remains unknown.
I have tried this with iCloud sync both on and off and also tried resetting sync services since this used to be a fix in the old days with Lion and Snow Leopard although I think it no longer applies with iCloud.
I've also tried removing the envelope index files and even all the plist files but the app does not launch long enough or far enough to get there.
I've also done a Repair disk permissions and while it found tons of faults, mostly in the printers area, this did not resolve the issue.
At this point, Mail is unusable which is a major pain in the ***.  if anyone has solutions, I'd appreciate hearing.
    Ross

I'm having the same problem as JadedEye.   Mail.app worked just fine yesterday, but now I can't get it to launch.
I've tried your suggestion, hpr3, to use Safe Mode.   No luck.
    Other things I've tried:
    1. Using recovery partition, repaired disk - no problems
    2. Using recovery partition, repaired permissions - nothing that looked as if it were related.
    3. Tried restoring Mail.app through Time Machine
    4. Tried restoring entire ~/Library/Mail folder from yesterday
    5. Tried deleting Mail Envelope files
    6. Tried removing entire ~/Library/Mail and ~/Library/Mail Downloads folders
    7. Tried deleting preferences files -- only one I found was com.apple.mail.plist.lockfile
NONE of these things has made any difference.  I would re-install Mail.app, if I could find an installer package anywhere.

  • Mail.app crashes, never comes up...

Something happened to Mail on my machine. Suddenly it crashes when I try to launch it. The icon on the toolbar bounces for a while, then stops. The system makes a crashreport, but it does not tell me anything.
I am not sure what made the application stop working. The last thing I did was to install the latest Quicktime Sortware Update this afternoon, which required me to reboot. During the installation, I was told that I had run out of space on my start drive, but the installation finished without any other problems. I saw the start disk was nearly full, so I deleted a bunch of stuff before rebooting. Among other things I cleared out "~/Library/Mail Downloads" . Then I rebooted, and Mail stopped working.
    I have tried:
    - Moving com.apple.mail.plist out of Preferences
    - Moving my entire mail folder out of ~/Library
    - Logging on as another user
    - Re-installing Mail.app from the original Tiger DVD
    - Repairing the harddisk with Disk Utility -- it fixed a problem but not Mail
Now I have run out of ideas... I hope you can help!
    Cheers,

Reinstall any updates that may not have been installed properly, as well as the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with the computer:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for PowerPC
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for Intel
After installing the Combo Update, the computer may restart twice and the first restart may take several minutes. This is normal.
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update (which you say you’ve already done), no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.
And of course, you should make sure that you have enough disk space available at all times...

should i change imap and smtp servers and ports? anything changed since 3 weeks ago?
i don't know what is the problem, its very annoying...

    Hi,
Regarding to current information, I would like first confirm that if there is any change including software or Windows updates installed before this issue.
To make sure the email account can still work fine, please contact the provider support to know if the account is hacked or blocked for some reason. Try to change the password to see what's going on.
Considering if your current user profile was corrupted, please test the issue by creating a new user account and configure the mail app after login with this account.
Since this issue can also be caused by corrupted system files or virus, please perform a system restore back to the point before this issue and see if the app can work fine now.

  • IOS SIMULATOR MAIL APP

    Hi.
I start to use Xcode and especially IOS Simulator (Xcode 4.3.2) on OSX LION 10.7.3.
I'd like to know if it's possible to use mail apps on IOS Simulator ? It's not installed by defaut.

If yes, can someone explain the procedure to install mail app on IOS simulator ?

The mail application is not available on the simulator.  You will need to test your application on a device to test that part.

I tried to add an assistant program on the mail app, but now I cannot open it. Is there anyway i can re-install the mail app?
    It is OS X 10.8.4
    Thanks.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it.
