Re-install Media Player 12 ???

I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite L505-S5990 with Win 7 OS pre-installed. Evidently Media Player 12 came bundled with the preloaded system. Now... Media Player has a problem that the troubleshooter will not repair. So I go to my recovery media discs and look through them. Media Player is not listed in the re-install list. Why ? - So I go to Microsoft's site, but they only will give you downloads for Win 7 (N) and some other stand alone Win 7 that you have to buy at the store seperately. They also tell you if your Win 7 came bundled with your computer, you will need to contact that maker of your computer. So does anyone have experience with this or know who does? It is very frustrating that Toshiba would make recovery discs, that would not list specifically the media player. Please help or make suggestions. Thank you.

I found the way to replace Windows Media Player 12: Go to Start, type services.msc in the Search field, and press Enter. In Services, find the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. If its status is Started, double-click the service and click Stop.
Next, Go to Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the Search field, and press Enter. This folder will open up in Windows Explorer. In this folder, rename the Media Player folder to something like Media Player old . If you can't see the folder, then it's probably hidden. Set Explorer to show hidden files and folders, and to show protected system files. I then shut down the computer then restarted it, went back into services.msc and a new one had taken the old ones place (magic). I turned the services back on and now I have a new Media Player.
I seem to think part of the problem was trying to store a lot of music in the players library with all the internet information. I don't think it could handle the load and then it started misplacing songs and really mixing things up some in which I could not delete. Now I'm using the player it to get the information about an album (covers, authors, etc.), and then when I am done listening to the album deleting it from the players library.

No sound after installing Media Player

My husband installed Adobe Media Player last Friday and now we have no sound from any application - all cables and speakers have been checked and re-seated multiple times :-) Device manager says devices are functioning correctly, but Directx Diagnostics produces Errors (code is Ox80004005(Generic Failure).
Could this be a conflict with Adobe Media Player? Does anyone know how I can fix the problem?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

When you are done with the procedure of deleting and reinstalling your the portable device I plugged in my mp3 player and it recognized it's not a big shock because it recognized it as a zen touch before I deleted the drivers. So I got the new drivers it noticed it, just like other systems noticed, but this time the Creative horribly programmed firmware update recognized it. I will never buy another creative product again, probably most of you wont either. But I have already paid the money for this product so I plan on using it until the battery dies on me. P.S. Goodluck to all of you I dont know if I will check this again but it took me about 8 - 0 hours to fix. I tried to make it as descripti've as I could so I cant be of much more help. But feel free if you have other fixxes to add or questions

Zen Micro not recognised after installing Media Player 11 Bet

Can anyone help?
I've updated Windows Media Player 0 to version Beta 2 and now my Zen Micro (Firmware 2.2.02 Playforsure) isn't recognised anyway on my system.
I've tried to re-install the CD but this doesn't do anything. I've download all the updates I can find on Creative's website and that does nothing.
I can't even use the Zen Micro MTP exlorer as this has disappeared off my system.
I'm running Windows XP SP2.

The problem will be the same I would think because the issue is that the player is an older one, so WMP does not recognise it. Unless they change it in te full version, which is probably only a slim chance, you will still need to download the hotfix and the other update.
But if i were you i wait for the full version anyway, the Beta 2 is better but still far from perfect...

Windows media player extension is installed but does not pass the plugin test...what do I do now?

I followed the instructions to install the Microsoft Media Player Extension in order to be able to listen to the radio in the Youtube Toolbar. Windows media player not recognized as a valid plug-in in safari?

on this PB 15 1.67/OS 10.4.3 I experienced some difficult in installing a piece of software, here's the thread....

prior to this difficulty, I had installed windows media player to access video clips embedded on news web sites etc, and everything worked fine, video usually streamed right into the media player, not saving a file to the desktop, but merely playing in a window....
to solve the software install problem above, I returned to the apple store & they suggested and helped me accomplish an archive & re-install of the OS, and afterwards, the problem software installed properly...
since the archive & re-install of OS 10.4.3, my windows media player is not recognized as a valid plug-in by safari.
when I click on a video link (embedded), a seperate window appears that describes my need to install windows media player 9 for mac (and it's already in my app's folder), when I download the file to attempt re-installing media player, stuffit doesn't seem to un zip the file after double clicking on it, no app file appears on the desktop to mount in the apps dierctory?
if the video link is not embedded, I can cntrl-click and save the file to the desktop and it will play normally, but if the file is embedded I have no means to see the news clip etc?
also, for those video files that are not embedded, instead of playing directly via streaming, when a link is clicked, the file downloads to the desktop before playing?
these aren't huge problems (well when trying to view an embedded news clip it is!) but any help in trying to return to normal behaviour would help!

I use the player infrequently, but it drives me crazy when I'm looking @ a news page w/an embedded video and can't merely click it's link & see the clip!
any thoughts on why I can't get the win media player sitx file to un-stuff and possibly re-install win media player to allow safari to recognize it as a valid plug-in?

Media Player plug in fails to work.

I have a new mini 1.5 Ghz (max os 10.4.3) that has all the software updates applied, Microsoft Media Player 9 installed successfully (plays sample WMV and is listed in Safari plugins) but I'm still getting plugin needs upgrading or not installed messages and am unable to play video/sound on the www.daum.net web site. I also have a year-old powerbook with all updates applied (mac os 10.3.9) that loads and plays the same site fine. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I thought this was something to the effect that I needed to update my media player. I followed the link to download, performed the download and installed Media Player 9, shut down, rebooted, and the result was the same, except; after installing and rebooting, I no longer have the Safari error message, so I can't give you that.
I have recently received a clarification on the message, I believe it says I can't use Media Player newer than 7.0. So now I plan to install Classic on my mini to install the older player, if this is correct. Forsee any problems in this? Or am I chasing the wrong rabbit?

Windows media player not working in firefox 4

when trying to play 181fm will not play music try you test after installing media player 1.0.0.8 try the test just get blank screen.
before i uninstall and reinstall Firefox 4 when i try playing any inbeded player on profile it would crash now just do not get any sound but in IE and Chrome work fine

Try to remove the old (Npdsplay dll in the plugins list) WMP plugin in case that is used.
The embed for Firefox has autostart="1" not not autostart=false (0) like the object for IE.

Any problems with Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X?

I want to be able to play video from CNN.com, but it says I need Windows Media Player 9. Before I download it, I want to know if it is reliable.
I've already got Flip4Mac, and that doesn't help. (I get a -2048 error.)
Please share experiences with Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X so I can decide whether or not to download it.

The default application you're looking for is "Stuffit Expander".
http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/ is the page you'll be looking for...think Winzip for Mac. Once stuffit is installed you should be able to open the .sitx or .hqx file you may have downloaded...essentially a package that stuffit can open for you so you can install media player.

Windows 8 enterprise update not availaible for windows media player

You can go to Control Panel> Programs and Feature > Turn windows feature on or off>scroll down to Meida features (expand you will see windows media player), tick then ok.

Playing DVD's using Windows Media Player

I've been trying to play dvd's that I've made or bought in both my Dell Inspiron labtop and my Dell 8250 pc and they won't play right. It doesn't matter if it's a music or movie. I downloaded a nvidia video decoder for my pc.......no go! The only thing that seems to work better than anything that I've tried is to download the VLC media player. The play there isn't bad, but I was told by the geek squad that I may need some more memory? All my drivers on both computers are up to date so what gives. If I try to play any dvd in media player without the vlc the audio/video is jumpy and distorted. I've been therefore using the vlc...........it was FREE! I've read in a thread that "changing the region" will then auto play when dvd's are inserted. Thanks for all your help!!!!

It sounds like a codec issue with media player. Media player doesn't come with it's own DVD codec, which is needed to play DVD's. You need third party DVD software or codec to play DVD's, like WinDVD, PowerDVD,VLC (free), etc. When DVD codec is installed, Media player will use this to decode the DVD files.
3rd party software usually has a built in utility that loads at start-up and can be configured to auto play DVD's, or........you can use windows auto play feature to automatically plays DVD's when inserted.
Open "My Computer".> Right click you DVD drive> select "properties"> under "Auto Play" tab, select DVD movies, then check "select an action to perform", Highlight the program you want to play you DVD movies, then click ok.

Tried following instructions but cant install media centre why?

After following instructions from media centre,eg. register with net passport site and windows messenger Istill can,t download this. I have the media centre icon in my all programs box butwhen I try to burn n
my music it disallows tells me to install media player as it is not properly installed. this is a pre owned p.c. and I am a complete novice.Can you help and oblige please?

I assume you are using a standard Coax areal lead to connect to your sky box? If so you need to find out what channel the sky is comning in on. In order to do this, use the Qomsio player to search the channels and when it finds the SKy signal it will tell you what channel it is transmitted on . Something like Channel 36. Ok, now you have this information, boot the machine and go into Mediacenter. You need to Manually add this channel. As Media center works by using the EPG, any channels such as the skyinput needs to be added.
So from the main menu, go to
settings > TV > Guide > Add missing Channels > Add Channel
Now enter the name of the channel you want displayed when viewing. IE SKY.
Now you have to enter the channel number IE 36 that you got from the Qosmio engine. This will now be place on the next available channel. IE 6/7/8 etc. All you do now is go to the channel and it will display the Sky input.

Media Player Crashes

I keep all my movies on an SD card. When I go to open the pre-installed media player on my AT300 it will open for a second and then it closes. I can select a movie from the File Manager and it'll open and play fine in the media player, but opening the media player first doesn't work. If I remove the SD card, the media player will open and stay open like it's supposed to but that doesn't do me any good since all my movies are on the SD card.
Is anyone else having this problem?

I haven't heard of that problem, and unfortunately, I don't have a solution. You might want to try calling customer support, but I suspect troubleshooting would be involve a factory reset. That wouldn't be worth it to me. Sorry, deeteedub.
