That is the standard method, but you should backup first, just in case of an error.

Then you will lose ALL of the data on your phone. The only way for you to remove a forgotten passcode is to either login to iCloud.com, locate the phone, then erase it, or force it into recovery mode & restore it. In you case, you'll be restoring as a new device.

  • Need to sync iPhone 3Gs to PC Laptop WITHOUT erasing data on iPhone

I recently had to purcase a new computer when my iBook stopped working correctly. I was able to get my iTunes library to transfer to my new PC laptop, and I want to switch over to having my iPhone sync to the new computer, but am very nervous about the need to "erase" my iPhone. I was burned once before by an incompetent Apple rep that had me restore from backup and I lost EVERYTHING. All of my current data is on the iPhone. Is there anyway to not erase my phone and get the contacts, etc. off of it. I also have MobileMe, which I hoped would be the best way to manage everything but after the latest update it isn't working correctly either.
My Blackberry and my Treo could be set up to take the data from to the device and override the program on my computer,so I do not understand why it is such a challenge for the iPhone.

If you copied your iTunes library from your Mac to your PC per the instructions included with this link, any music that was purchased from the iTunes store with your iPhone was in your iTunes library on your Mac before being transferred to your PC and the same for any 3rd party apps downloaded/installed direct with your iPhone, and you have authorized the PC with your iTunes account with iTunes, no iTunes content on your iPhone should be erased with the first sync with iTunes on your PC.

Not sure how restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup lost everything on your iPhone - with your iPhone being completely erased of all data unless there was a major problem with your iPhone's backup. No iTunes content on your iPhone is included with your iPhone's backup, and no photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone are included with your iPhone's backup. All iTunes content on your iPhone - all music, movies, tv shows, and 3rd party apps should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and all photos transferred from your computer should remain on your computer.
What isn't working correctly in regards to your MobileMe account exactly after which update?
With Windows, you can sync your MobileMe contacts and calendar events with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010. Do you have Outlook available on your PC and if so, have you downloaded the Windows MobileMe Control Panel to set up syncing Outlook with your MobileMe online calendar and address book?

  • IPhone, iPod and iPad to MacBook sync without erasing data

I'm a happy owner of MacBook Pro now.
But I stuck with a problem of transfering my music, playliss, photos, apps and books from my iOS devises (iPhone, iPod and iPad).
I know that iTunes desined to avoid of syncing one devise with two or more computers to keep the copyrights. But I have many media I didn't purchased on iTunes, I had it from my CDs and DVDs. But I've got quite a situation that my old PC broke down and erased all its data. So I can't just sync my old laptop with the new one. So, how to copy files from my iOS devices to my Mac?
    Please, help!

  • HELP - How do you install classic without erasing OS 10.4.8

Please help....I just replaced my PowerBook G4 with a new MacBook and would like to pass the G4 down to my daughter. Most of the games that she uses are in classic from her old Imac. My G4 came with classic but I had to reinstall OSX a while ago and never put classic back in. I can't get it to boot from any OS CD that I have, please advise.
    Thanks,
Dad trying to do good for his 7yr old daughter

    Hi FKTS,
The Classic files for your PowerBook G4 are on the original install DVD that came with it.
A Panther (10.3.x) install set of DVD/CDs most probably?
Anyway, insert this original install disc, and look for "Classic Support" installer, something like that.
    Double-click, follow the prompts.
Classic will get installed without changing anything to the existing Tiger installation, just like it would do with the original OS (Panther or Jaguar?).
If you don't find anything like "Classic Support Something":
Some original installations came through a first step of installing an additional software installer (example my iMac G4).
    - No problem: In that case, you'll have to double-click the Mac OS X installation icon first, then instead of reinstalling Mac OS X, you'll find your way to a Custom Installation of additional/bundled software.
    Proceed to install Classic.
Here too, it'll get installed without modifying your OS (whether it is the original one or your newly installed Tiger).
    Have fun!

  • Can I partition an external drive without erasing data?

    Can I do this?
Or do I need to have partitioned the drive to begin with in order to not lose my data?
I need it to be a GUID partition map for booting...

I need it to be a GUID partition map for booting
That is a common misunderstanding. An Intel Mac will boot from a disk partitioned with the Apple Partition Map. What you can't do without GUID is use the Apple Installer (which is used for e.g. System Upgrades).

  • Can I unsync icloud from Calendar in my mac without erasing data on laptop?

Hi, I'm new to "Mac World" ( just go my Mac retina 13' ) . The issue is regarding the calendar on my laptop. I loaded info in it and the I synced with iCloud. My surprise was when I try to quit iCloud. It seems that if I do it , it erased my calendar. I noticed that when I log in again in the cloud , it loaded my calendar again , but my question is , can I erased the calendar in the iCloud without altering the one on my laptop? Please I apologize if my explanation is no clear enough , but all I want is to know if that's is possible. Thanks

If you erase the calendar in iCloud it will be erased both from iCloud and from your Mac, and it will be lost.  Your iCloud calendar resides on the iCloud server and your Mac subscribes to this calendar.  When you sign out of iCloud you are disconnecting your calendar from the server so it disappears from your Mac.  When you sign back in it reappears as it is read from the server again.  This video may help explain what's going on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBf7Uzv1OmQ&feature=player_embedded.

  • How to install games without a data connection

have a curve 8520. i do not have a data connection, no service provider. i only use wifi and connect to my desktop via usb. how is the best way to install games. can i download from bb app world? i have tried downloading from other places but the games either do not load correctly (.jad files) or they do not run. i suspect they were not for my model. any help is ppreciated.

Those commands don't need an internet connection.
    Do this:
    1) download ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/current/os/i686 … .db.tar.gz and ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/extra/os/i686/extra.db.tar.gz when you have internet
    2) on your home pc (as root): cd /var/lib/pacman ; cd current ; rm -rf * ; tar xzf /path/to/current.db.tar.gz ; cd ../extra ; rm -rf * ; tar xzf /path/to/extra.db.tar.gz
    3) pacman -Sp --noconfim kde > pkglist
    4) take that file where you have internet and run wget -nv -i .../pkglist in an empty directory
    5) when the download has finished take those files to your home pc, put them in /var/cache/pacman/pkg and run pacman -S kde

  • Can I sync my iphone with 2 different Itunes Library without erasing data?

Hello,. I would like to know if its possible to sync my iphone with two different Itunes library without data from first itunes library getting deleted when sync with second itunes library, (I mean, at least the music and videos)
    Thanks!

iOS devices can only sync with one library at a time.  To sync with a new library, you have to remove the current libraries content.
An alternative would be to move content to one computer (using an external drive or homesharing), and then sync with the library you choose.

  • How do i resize my hard drive without erasing data

i have OS X 10.10.1 and i also dual boot my mac with windows 8.1. i have a 750 gb hard drive & on my windows partition i have 105 gb of free space but on my mac partition i have only 50 gb free

    Hi base5700,
The resource below will explain how to resize your Windows partition.  In your case, you want to decrease the size of your Windows partition instead of increasing it.

  • Can Tiger be installed on a formatted drive without losing data?

i have a mac OS formatted drive with tons of data on it that i use as a secondary storage device. my main HD just burnt out, and i was thinking of installing Tiger to the secondary drive. i know that if you install OS X on a drive that already has a previous version of the OS on it, you have the option to 'archive and install,' but this is not an option since the drive has no OS files on it. so my question is, if i choose the standard option of 'install OS X' from the install disk, will i lose my data from the drive?

As long as the drive was initialized as HFS+ (Mac Extended) you can install OSX without erasing the disk, but if that disk contains your only copy of important data you would be living dangerously. If something goes wrong (user error, software bug, power surge, hardware failure, etc.) you could lose everything.

  • Hi apple user. I have lost all iPad safari bookmarks. Tried hold home button with sleep button but it doesn't get back my safari bookmarks. I also have reset without erasing my iPad data but still doesn't work. Help me get back my safari iPad bookmarks.

Hi, I have lost all iPad safari bookmarks. Have tried reset without erasing data and hold home and sleep button together but when go to safari all safari bookmarks still lost. Is there any case help me get back my iPad safari bookmarks ? Currently my safari is hanged, can't surf webs or anything. I saw the safari tab on iCloud is on, but I don't know using iCloud. Please help me get back my iPad safari bookmarks. I have contact Apple but could not set chat session. I have my Apple ID registered same with iCloud, also same during the time I have all iPad safari bookmarks lost. My iPad never synced on computer since I bought it with set at local store. Please help me get my iPad safari bookmarks back, thanks.

Hi, I quitted Safari and press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously unti the Ipad turn off and on with the logo Apple appears but it has hanged on and fixed to the point. I do it again hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously and the Ipad turn off and on again with the Apple logo but it still is hanged on the same point. I have do it a few more time, it still hanged to the same point for few hours with no change (like picture):
I think my Ipad is fault now. I guess I must connect it to the computer with itune, or something. So my case is this: at the moment everytime I hold the Home and Sleep buttons the Ipad always off and reappear with the Apple logo and be hanged on (like the pic), and I need restoring my Ipad Safari bookmarks... so I guess I need using Itune or something to get back the Ipad then using Icloud or blah. Please guide me for the step, Im not sure if connect to PC, if any that my Ipad data would lost, or is there anyway that I also can get back Ipad Safari Bookmarks after connecting to PC, also the how using Icloud. There is no Apple store or service store in my country so I think I must do it my self. Feel free to share your guide, thanks.

  • I backed up files onto an external hard rive form my old PC. Now I want to retrieve the files to put on my mac but it is telling me to format it to Mac. How can I do this without erasing all of the data on my hard drive?

I backed up files onto an external hard rive form my old PC. Now I want to retrieve the files to put on my mac but it is telling me to format it to Mac. How can I do this without erasing all of the data on my hard drive?

Your drive was used with a PC and formatted NTFS which is proprietary Microsoft format.
You need to install a third party program that will read the NTFS format.
There is various software from PARAGON, Tuxera and NTFS-3G
When you get the data off and have verified it to be good, reformat the drive either HFS+ for Mac use only, or for Mac and PC use then MSDOS (FAT32) for under 4GB files (best) or exFAT (for larger than 4GB files) is proprietary and Microsoft is appling for a patent, which would likely mean OS X won't be allowed to read it anymore without a licensing fee and you'l have to pay another third party software company to read the format, just like NTFS is.
The less you have to rely upon third party sources to read your drives the better, this way if you have a issue and need to read the drive on another machine you don't need the software, and a internet connection and a credit card and...and...and...

  • How to reinstall snow leopard without erasing any data

Hi, I have a mac running snow lepoard and want to reinstall the operarting sytem without erasing any data, can you tell me how to do that, thanks.

Just boot from the install DVD and install. This will give you the version as of the version on the DVD while preserving your third party software and users. Then update using Software Update. Better to do this with a backup in case anything goes wrong.
Why do you want to do this? I wonder if this is really needed.
