Re-install utility, activity monitor only

can someone help me to reinstall activity monitor as the original support and or library files are corrupted or missing (7yr old "assistant" at work)
I do NOT want to reinstall the whole osx, only activity monitor.
thanks very much.

bluezedd,
The Console Log message begs the question, and I know you previously repaired permissions, but have you tried to permissions repair one more time after you reapplied the Combo Update?
The setuid root message seems to point to ownership issues, but I am not the one to speculate or make recommendations at that level of the system.
The "7yr old "assistant" at work" appears to have done more damage than would be expected with a simple removal of Activity Monitor.
I know that you said that you did NOT want to reinstall the the whole OS, but considering the time that you have already spent on this problem, I would suggest that an Archive and Install of Panther followed by the application of the Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9, would be the best course of action.
I have successfully used Archive and Install on my G3 iMac when I replaced the Hard Drive, and I was impressed by the fact that all user settings and preferences remained intact.
Whatever you decide, make sure you are properly backed up.
Good Luck.

  • MacPro sees 16g mem but Activity Monitor Only Shows 8 Gig

I have 4 simms of 4GB mem in my 2008 MacPro. I always thought all was ok as "About this Mac" shows 16GB of mem. But when I run Activity Monitor, the System Memory pie chart says I have 8GB. Is there another way to confirm how much mem is being recognized by my MacPro?
I only discovered this when running "icleanmemory" from the app store, and noticing I only ever have approximately 3GB free at any one time. Looks like my Mac is not seeing at least 8Gig of mem EVEN THOUGH "About this Mac" clearly shows 16GB.

And not just a reboot, but boot in Safe Mode.
Sometimes a clean install or reinstall over what you have, because a few people (a fraction of a fraction) had a system problem
Some background tasks dont' uninstall, not easily.
They get added to launch services and have to be removed through launchd
Heat is always an issue with RAM
Not showing up all the time with what it should be.... call it defective, call it marginal, have the vendor exchange and let them use more robust testng
FBDIMMs get subjected to heat, and heat-cool cycle stresses electronics
Keeping them below 72*C is important - I use Smcfancontrol 2.x
    Riser releated issues
    All 4 on one Riser?
Ideal is one set on each Riser
Swap al the Ram to first one andthen the other (the top Riser has to be populated and can't be left empty
Try with one pair, then the other and insure you get 8GB eachtime.
Narrowing it down to a pair, to Riser, to placement.
A common thread, DIMMs show but half capacity. Defective, gone bad.

  • How do I locate and install Activity Monitor?

I cannot find Activity Monitor on my computer.
When and how it disappeared I do not know, but is there anyway of locating and installing a copy without a complete re-install?

"Activity Monitor" is stored on the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder. Before reinstalling OS X, I recommend you to search it with Spotlight.
To search it in Spotlight, press Command and Space keys so, if you have a look at the top right of the display, Spotlight will appear. Then, type "Activity Monitor" without quotes, and check if the application appears. If it appears, it hasn't disappeared because you can use it. If it doesn't appear, you have to reinstall Mac OS X. Insert the Mac OS X disc, hold the C key while your computer is starting, and reinstall Mac OS X. You won't lose anything from your computer

  • Memory incorrectly reported in Activity Monitor.

Yesterday I installed an additional 8GB of memory to my 2007 MAC Pro, it had been 8GB total.  Under system profiler, it reported the expected 16GB total memory, but in activity monitor only 8GB reported on pie chart.  I tried reseting PRAM to no avail.  When I installed FCPX earlier this week, my system was brought to it's knees due to page swaps during imports, so tried to double my memory.  Any ideas?  I have not yet tried to re-import to FCPX  as of yet.

Either the dimms are bad, in which case send them back for replacments, or perhaps you didn't install them in the proper slots.  If it's a "2006 mac pro" which I guess is the first mac pro here is the dimm layout chart.  Check you installation against that:
Here's the kind of dimms you should have:
By the way, to see the total memory the machine thinks it has you might find it easier or more convenient to just click the Apple icon in the upper left and select "About This Mac".

  • Interpreting Activity Monitor graphs

I have installed an Activity Monitor icon in my dock in the hope that it will enable me to reduce or prevent the reoccurrences of "rolling beach balls" (Spinning Wait Cursors) on my screen. I have also installed a "Floating CPU Monitor" on my desktop to make it even easier. The problem is that I'm not getting as much as I could out of the graphs, because I don't completely understand them. Is there a place where I can get information that will enable me to get the most benefit from them? If not, I'd at least appreciate explanations for the following:
    (1) Floating CPU Monitor: There are two vertical side-by-side columns on my desktop. They operate independently. What  activity does each of the two sides reflect?
    (2) CPU History: There are two stacked rows of moving bar graphs. The bars move from right to left. There are green bars and there are red bars. What does the top row show? What does the bottom row show? What do the red bars and the green bars show?

When will APPLE install an ACTIVITY MONITOR so we can see ourselves which program/app is doing this?

It's aliens, I've been trying to convince the proper authorities of this with no luck. When they get here, and the come often, they need power. They've found they can tap into our cell phones, suck battery & no one is the wiser.
That's why I keep my phone off at all times...about once a month I bring it out of its lead case & charge it in a lead container. So far, none of my battery power has been stolen...none.

  • MacPro Quad Core 32g Ram running slow Logic using only 9g in Activity Monitor

Well its taken a while, but this is my first foray into the world of forums! I'm so hacked off with this regular problem and havent been able to find anything anywhere to solve it i thought i'd see if anyone has any similiar issues and maybe even a solve to it.
So.... im an orchestrator and producer and after my mid 2008 Macbook Pro with 8g ram started freezing up i invested in this 3 years ago -
Mac Pro 2x 2.4ghz Quad Core intel Xeon and stuck in 32gb of lovely Crucial RAM and 3 seperate internal 1TB drives with one for operating system (10.6.8), one for Audio recording/saving and one for all my sample libraries.
32gb ram - should be enough i thought!
So i regularly run at least 30 VI's - Ni The giant, Spitfire Orchestral librabies (say 12 string instruments up to 0.69g per load) LASS strings, plus perc STYLUS, ABBEY road drums, Trillian basses (acoustic/electric), ominisphere etc etc. So pretty hefty sample instruments. But theyre sooo nice!!
In addition, the 32 bit server will come alive (NOT! So unstable i find) with my Waves plugs etc.
Looking at ACTIVITY MONITOR however i might be not touching 9 gig (and sometimes even less) of usage for Logic, and only say 800MB for 32 bit server and have NOTHING else open - and what do i find .....
    - Mouse lag and cant really do anything with the mouse whilst playing the track - cant adjust volume - too slow, zooming problems
    - Takes a good 2-3 seconds for track to stop playing
Dont get System OVERLOADS so much, its just that the system goes REALLLLLY slow.
    What ive tried- - -
    - Running Mountain Lion off another drive (havent had time to install it and wanted to be sure everything worked etc)
    - Tried all audio prefs - large/small buffers/threads etc and yes i am on 1024.
in a nutshell how come with 32g RAM everything is so slow when barely using 10g of that???????
I dread getting to the end of a project cos i know im gonna be freezing so much, but with so much editing all the time for the orchestral parts i need everything unfrozen and working.
Sorry if this is long winded but wanted to describe what im experiencing.
Any feedback most welcome! Thankyou in advance.

    Hi
    A few thoughts:

The 32bit server is a pita: Waves v9 are 64bit  compatible (they run fine). 32 bit VI's can be run outside Logic using Vienna Ensemble Pro (see later)

Some of these VI's are extremely CPU hungry: Abbey Rd drums for example, really do hammer the CPU. What does Logic's Performance meter show in the way of CPU load. What does Activity Monitor show regarding CPU load?
With 32G of RAM, this should not be the issue, but you might have general CPU problems (see above), and you may also have Sample disk streaming limitations if all the Loibraries you mention are on the same drive. How does Activity Monitor look regarding disk access? You might find it helpful to add a second drive and split the sample libraries across 2 for faster disk access.
I presume that you have plenty of free space on the System drive?
Logic can get sluggish if the Undo info gets way too big, and also if there are loads of regions in the Arrange: check Options:Project Information.
Many are finding some benefits (me included) by running the VI's in Vienna Ensemble Pro:
Better CPU load distribution than directly in Logic
"Persistant Samples": they can remain loaded whilst you switch Logic Projects
Logic is effectively running much less itself, so generally flies.
32bit Plugs hosted separately in VEP so no 32bit Bridge issues in Logic
Something to consider, though perhaps not yet, would be setting up a Slave computer using VEP.

  • Dual 2ghz G5 appears with only one processor in Activity Monitor

Here's something I haven't seen before... a dual 2ghz G5 appears as a single processor machine in Activity Monitor. I ran the hardware test from the CD and everything checked out fine. I then rebooted and zapped PRAM using commandoption+PR... I held the keys down for a while and zapped it three times. System booted up and showed both procs in Activity Monitor. Restarted system again and now shows only a single CPU.
    Anyone seen this before?
    TIA!
    G5 dual 2ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Did you ever use CHUD or Open Firmware to disable a cpu?
My preference with G5s is to boot into Open Firmware and
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
    reset-all
which should and is easier to rebuild the device tree rather than zap pram (once is enough, older OldWorld systems urban legend was you needed multiple reboots to be sure).

  • CS6 installer says I have to quit "SafariNotificati" to install. Adobe instructions to "Force Quit' or use "Activity Monitor" don't work. Now What?

I've been trying to install the CS6 Design & Web Premium on my iMac (running Yosemite), but I keep getting the message that I have to quit "SafariNotificati" to install. I've tried the above methods as instructed on the Adobe site to no avail.
Hey, Adobe, your support sucks. I should be able to call some one about this.

are you closing safari and finding anything in your activity monitor about a safari process?
if yes, are you able to terminate those processes?

  • Activity Monitor won't run after leopard install

The only problem i'm having is that when i try and load Activity Monitor it bounces once and crashes. No amount of relaunches and reset/relaunches fixes the problem.
Any ideas? I've also tried launching the old tiger version of Activity Monitor that is on one of my SuperDuper backup external drives, but no luck.
    Thanks,

I apologize for the poor formatting. I did a filter for Activity and found these references to the crash. It looks like i'm missing a framework required for displaying the graphs that activity monitor uses. Any advice on how to go about replacing that?
    Thanks

  • "Activity Monitor" utility does not update the "CPU Time" column in real ti

If I use Activity Monitor to display "All Processes", why doesn't it update the "CPU Time" column in real time? It updates the "% CPU" and others, but not the total "CPU Time". I have all columns viewed if that matters. However if you double click on a process in the Activity Monitor window, the details about the process are displayed in another window (number of threads, ports, CPU Time, Context Switches, Faults, etc), and as long as that detail window exists, the "CPU Time" column is updated in real time in the main Activity Monitor window. Is this a bug or a feature?? Does Leopard do this also? Have lots of free memory so that is not an issue. Thanks...
    -Bob

I noticed the same behavior reported by Bob: Not regarding the "process filter" or the "update frequency" selected "CPU Time" column is only updated when details dialog is open. I noticed it just today (which triggered the search here), I wonder if this "feature" has been always present or maybe activity monitor is getting lazy?

  • Test Activity Monitor Utility on Aperture: Results

Activity Monitor Utility gives the memory details of
Aperture use. Interesting that its use on simple tasks
are nearly 2GB of total memory.
For those having stalling problems, there is a good way
to see how your computer is using the memory.
    Opened Aperture:
    Idle use:
    Memory: 550+
    Virutal Memory: 850+
    While moving full Zoom
    Memory jumped to: 840+
    Virtual jumped to: 1.3 GB
Watching Activity Monitor really tells the story. Aperture is a
program for those with well over the 2GB memory. It is constantly
running close or higher in its general use.

Terminal freaks me out. Spooky stuff, can't look.
I haven't run into any RAM issues yet but my experience is not nearly as extensive as some of the rest of you guys.
Curious, though, are you seeing beach balls when the paging starts to ramp up? That virtual memory must get in and out of the swap file and that takes a long time. If you've got physical drive issues or the drive is getting crowded, the swap file gets fragmented and slower and slower.
