Re-Install Windows after Harddisk change

Hi,I have a Lenovo V570 laptop. It is 3+ years old. I recently had to change the HDD. After the HDD change, local technician loaded Ubuntu. However, I wanted to go back to the installed Windows 7. I have the Activation Key. However, not sure from where I can get the Windows to dwnload.I tried Microsoft site. After validating the key, I got a message as the key is part of OEM and I need to contact the manufacturer. I had no luck in getting touch with themCan some one please help me to correct link for Windows 7 download? Thanks

Hi,
look inside your /User/Library/Parallels folder if the .hdd file that is your Parallels Windows VM is still present.
To my knowledge the uninstall of Parallels does not delete it.
Whether or not VirtualBox can use is for import is beyond my knowledge.

  • [TUTORIAL] GE70 2OE Installing Windows 7 (OS CHANGE)

    Hello Forum,
Here is my very first post on this forum... but I wanted to share my experience with switching OS on the new GE70 2OE-015NL (as the product name says, I'm from The Netherlands  )
I bought my GE70 and immidiately wanted to switch my OS to Windows 7... I owned a Dell Vostro 1700 Series and OS switches were never a problem on that notebook... as soon as i started with the OS change I ran into some problems that were difficult for me to fix (I'm not an expert) There were almost no tutorials to find about this, but I managed to fix it!
Before I figured out what to do, I called MSI Support so they could tell me if I could safely remove the BIOS_RVY partition etc. but as soon as I got someone on the phone and I told him that I already deleted the Windows 8 partitions and didn't get Windows 7 to install he began shouting that MSI doesn't support OS changes and that I had to send an email to their tech support so they could decide later on if they would help me or not.... I didn't ask for anything, I only wanted to know if I fkd up my new Notebook or that it would be repairable... a BIG  for the MSI Tech Support! After I called I immidiately googled if it was safe to delete the BIOS_RVY partition but there were no such forum posts that I could find.. Therefore I decided to make this post!
REMINDER: this tutorial is for those that find it difficult or are scared to change their OS without knowing what's going to happen.. I had to figure this all out on my own and therefore I want to help other people with similar problems! So maybe it's a bit noob for this forum I don't know.. but please don't hate because of that! ^^
WARNING: THE INSTALLED OS MUST BE A 64-BIT VERSION, ALSO I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU CAUSE TO YOUR NOTEBOOK/NETBOOK!
It is also recommended that you download all the drivers for Windows x64 before you install Windows because the network card won't work because of a lack of drivers so you need a second PC with a USB or you download them before the OS switch and put them on a USB.
Step 1: Make a bootable DVD/USB with Windows 7 x64 ISO on it, this can be done with Rufus for USB Flash Drives or PowerISO for DVD's! (I'm sorry I'm not allowed to post external links so you will have to google it  )
Step 2: Restart the PC and when the text MSI pops up you press the DEL (numpad " . " key) and you will get into the BIOS Menu
Step 3: Go to the BOOT tab and select Boot Mode (or something similar) and change the Boot Mode from UEFI to Legacy
Step 4: Now you're Windows USB/DVD should be bootable (Microsoft says that Windows 7 supports UEFI Boot but I tried using multiple ISO's on different USB's and DVD's with different write speeds etc. but I didn't get Windows 7 Setup to boot beyond the 'Starting Windows' screen)
Step 5: When Windows 7 Setup is Booted select your country settings and time format and don't select the Upgrade option but the Custom (advanced) option to install Windows 7.
Now it's getting a bit difficult for most of us... Windows 7 Booted in a Legacy Boot Mode does not support GPT (Guid Partition Table) Disks, those can only be writed upon in UEFI mode. So now we need to change the Disk Partition Table to MBR (Master Boot Record). When you're at the partition menu, format and delete all partitions (yes don't worry you can safely delete all the partitions (when deleting the BIOS_RVY partition the F3 Hotkey function won't work anymore but we don't want that because it will recover Windows 8 but we hate that OS.. that's why we want to change to Windows 7!)
Step 6: Now that all the partitions are deleted on the disk, we can openup CMD this can be done by pressing SHIFT+ F10 in the partition menu of the Windows 7 Setup.
    Now type the following commands:
    Diskpart
    List Disk
Select Disk # (probably 0, because the most notebooks only have 1 HDD)
    Convert MBR
Now your HDD is converted to a MBR Partition Table
Step 7: Make a new partition (or more, depends on how much storage you have and want on your C:\ partition, Windows will automatically make some System partition(s))
Step 8: Select the partition on which you want to install Windows 7 and let it install! the MSI GE70 2OE supports Windows 7 x64 so all the drivers for that OS can be downloaded at the MSI website, product info (GE70 2OE) and then downloads -> Drivers.
Step 9: Install all the drivers and you're ready to go!
I hope I helped you with this problem, for me it was kinda hard to figure out that you could safely delete all the partitions on the disk without screwing up your PC.. So I hope I gave you some confidence with doing so after reading this tutorial!

    Hey man
I did this on the new msi ge60 2oc 014ne, which should be pretty much the same. Almost everything seems fine now except for two things.. I still cant det the wireless network adapter working, even though the ethernet works and Ive installed all drivers i could find. Do you have any idea what to do?
Second thing, in the Windows experience index, it gives my graphics card the grade 5.1, but it should be around 7. I installed the nvidia driver and all, so it doesn't really make sense to me... Any suggestions? Thanks!
Oh yeah, and the big foot boot agent message that shows up every time i boot the machine, i cant make it go away... I click shift + f10, clicks disable message and f4 for save and quit.. But it shows up again nemt time i boot... An annoying useless waste of time..
I guess it's pretty much the same indeed, do you have installed the Windows 7 x64 drivers for your wireless adapter or tried to install the Windows 8 ones? That could be the problem? If that's not the case and your ethernet is working, try checking for windows updates and see if it automatically installs the drivers for you? Make sure you installed the AzureWave Wireless LAN-NB114H driver that is available for your PC for Win7 x64, that driver as the name suggests is for wireless connection. Killer Bigfoot LAN is just for boosting your card so it's faster over LAN but the AzureWave makes the wireless connection available.. It worked for me so it should work for you?
If you did this all, try reinstalling it.. If that doesn't work, try formatting al partitions again en reinstall Windows 7 and start with a clean install...
About the videocard rate.. If your having problems with low FPS during gaming (maybe lower than normal) make sure you have installed the MSI driver for your graphic card (don't download it from the NVidia website) If you don't know, you can find all drivers for your device on the MSI website, Products -> Notebooks -> Gaming Series -> GE60 2OC -> Downloads
If the lower rate of the video card didn't cause low FPS I wouldn't worry too much if I were you
Oh, and about the Bigfoot Boot Manager.. I have the exact same thing.. I'm still figuring out how to get rid of it, but for now I went into the configure mode and set the message to disabled and the message time to 1 second (so that 1 second extra boot time isn't that bad..) If I found a solution to get rid of it I will let you know!
Hope I helped you, if not feel free to reply and ask again! We will figure it out together, or with help from someone else on this forum!

  • Satellite A200-137 - Can not install windows after hard disk crash

last week my a200-137 crashed and now i have new hitachi 500 gb hdd on it, same as before the crash.
I install with Toshiba recovery DVD windows Vista on it and after succesfull install i have to start windows, it says preparing windows for first use then i have to wait a moment and then i get the message that windows installation is not completed. But it is complete!
After trying for 3 times installing with recovert I tried to install windows xp.
After a couple of minutes and transering files, I get the message no disk found! It says that there is no hard disk on the laptop!
But when I start up the boot menu or the setup menu I can see the 500 gb Hitachi hard disk!
So why can windows not find the hard disk and why can I not start windowds visat after installing with the recovery dvd?

    > So why can windows not find the hard disk and why can I not start windowds visat after installing with the recovery dvd?
On this virtual way it is not easy to say why you cannot install recovery image. It would be interesting to know if the same will happen when you replace HDD with the same or identical one.
Which capacity has had original HDD?
If possible try to obtain original Microsoft installation disc and check if HDD will be recognized by Vista or Win7 and of course if you will be able to install and start preinstalled OS.
About WXP installation: it is well known that WXP installation will not starts properly due to missing SATA driver that must be loaded before WXP installation starts.
Check this forum and you will find hundreds of threads with detailed explanation why this happen and what can you do about it.

    Hi,

You don't install anything. You restore the hard disk by laying down all the bytes it needs - one at a time.
The recovery discs that you created will restore the hard drive to its original factory-new contents. No product key is necessary because that installation is preactivated.
See the section Hard Disk Drive Recovery using the Recovery media, starting on p. 66 in the User's Guide.

  • Failing to install Windows after virus removal

I recently detected a virus and our IT guy removed it successfully.  It seems that the registry was "damaged" somewhere as i cannot re-install Windows.  It goes past the first section (gathering files) and then +- 67% of the next
step - then I receive an error message. I also did a back up (before installation) and at 99% it showed an error and "cannot complete back up".
I was told i should  re-install windows and this should correct the issues.  I am also not able to do updates or sync any phones/tablets.

Try create a bootable scan with Windows Defender Offline and boot into your system and run a full system scan:
    http://cyberdefend.wordpress.com/2013/05/06/scanner-in-your-pocket/
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/what-is-windows-defender-offline
If your Windows 7 is already running, you could create a repair disk:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-system-repair-disc
And boot into your system and attempt to repair it.

  • Reinstalling Windows after a change in MOBO

I just dropped my Athlon 64 and the K8T mobo in the case plugged in the PCI cards and started up.   Running Windows XP ... bootup is slow and on occasion the computer will restart on its own, and even sometimes lock up ...
Wondering if a clean install of Windows XP ... could help with the issues described ...  your thoughts.. thx

you should ALWAYS format when changing a motherboard, i can't believe windows xp even booted at all!!!
So if you havent yet, format the computer

  • Bootcamp won't install windows after partition

I am attempting to install with windows 10 preview via bootcamp. I've had it running in Parallels just fine but want to run it using bootcamp and then run the bootcamp partition through Parallels.
I went through the bootcamp assistant, made the bootable usb drive with the drivers and then went to partition the drive. Once the partition finishes, the Mac reboots with no warning. It reboots right back to the login screen for mac. If I go to the disk utility I see the BOOTCAMP partition there.
Tried rebooting holding the option key and the only option is the Mac, no Bootcamp partition. I've tried deleting and re-creating the partition and it still isn't available as a boot option.
    How do I fix this?

  • Re-installing CS4 after harddisk breakdown

I have bought the Adobe Creative Suite CS4/Design Premium back in Feb. 2010. Recently the harddisk in my iMac broke down and was replaced (Mac OS 10.6.8) Now I cannot install my Adobe Creative Suite CS4 DVDs again! Tried several ways, desktop installation was suggested by Adobe - nothing works - won't allow installation. Are my money just wasted, or could there be another solution I haven't thought of? I would be greatly thankful for an answer.

  • Can I install Windows after having format my laptop?

After an automatic update that probably didn't work right (there wasn't any message like "update was finished" or "restart your computer"), windows on my laptop cannot start anymore. There is a message everytime just before windows are starting that some .dll files "haven't been found"... I decided to format my laptop using an old version of Windows XP but the problem still remain. Now I have no operating system.
Can I reinstall windows with the recovery CD? I still haven't try it... I have a Satellite U200 laptop.

    Hi
You can use the Recovery CD and its advisable and recommended to using this Recovery CD for the OS reinstallation. Generally such OS was tested and should works without any problems.
But you have to use the original recovery CD which was delivered with this notebook. Recovery CD from another notebook will not work. I hope you use the right one

  • How I can install Lion after harddrive change?

    Hello community,
I got my iMac back from a service provider who have replaced my harddrive, because it had a defect.
Now I can't start Mac OS Lion. I get no error message, only a folder sign with a question mark.
I thought the internet recovery mode does help, but it doesn't appear on my system.
The German Apple Support can't help and suggest to go to another service provider.
Do you have a idea to solve this problem?
    Thank you in advance.
    Frank

  • Mid 2010 iMac upgraded SSD, can't seem to install windows via bootcamp. Windows can't be installed on this storage device. The chosen harddisk contains a MBR-partition-table. Windows can only be installed on GPT-harddisks on EFI-systems error

I have windows 8.1 on DVD & on USB CF Reader/Card. I've followed the full steps in bootcamp, but when it restarts and its time to select the bootcamp partition to install windows (after alt rebooting to the efi startup) I get the "Windows can't be installed on this storage device. The chosen harddisk contains a MBR-partition-table. Windows can only be installed on GPT-harddisks on EFI-systems" error.
I've scoured the internet trying different solutions that seem to work for everyone else, but to no avail. I've reformatted from that screen, doesn't help. I've removed bootcamp partition and manually partitioned using disk util, leaving it empty once partition-wise, and filling it with a blank partition the second time. I've done a full back up and clean re-install of Yosemite, and nothing seems to be working.
Thats when I switched to DVD install, as I heard sometimes you can't install with a CF card. When I alt-boot, I can see EFI-windows and windows, but if I select EFI-windows, same problem as before, and if I select windows, I get the black screen of "no bootable device please insert boot disk and press any key."
I've been stuck w/o bootcamp for over 2 years now. Anyone, please help?
Mid 2010 iMac running 256gb SSD, Yosemite 10.10.1 trying to install windows 8.1

I am having the same problem. Windows is trying to install. It identifies the various partitions but says that I cannot install Windows on the Boot Camp partition or any other. I select Drive options (advanced) and Format the Boot Camp drive, but it makes no difference.
    This is the Windows error:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks.
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer BIOS menu.
I am not sure what Csound1 is suggesting with that post above. There are some involved suggestions over here <https://discussions.apple.com/message/23548999#23548999> about using Disk Utility to delete the Boot Camp partition and create new ones - is that the idea?

  • Black Screen with curser When Installing Windows 7 on Mavericks

I have been trying to install windows on my macbook pro via bootcamp all day today, i have put about 7 hours into it and i am very frustrated. I have followed the guides. I have updated my mac, installed the windows support drivers, i have the most recent bootcamp, I have windows 7 on a DVD with a usb optical drive.
So my problem comes when I get to installing windows. after i make the partion on bootcamp it trys to reboot to windows but instead goes to a black screen with curser. i have gone online and read through tons of forums that talk about this exact problem. i have attempted what they suggest such as booting while the usb with the windows support drivers is connected and boot to the windows disk using the option at boot. (Still black screen with curser) I have tried booting to the windows disk with no other external usbs attached but the optical drive. (still black screen). i have tried booting to another disk part of the DVD callled " EFI Boot" that pops up when holding option at boot up. When doing this windows 7 actually does start up  and starts the install process but when choosing the bootcamp disk to install to, it says it is the wrong format. so i tried to format it in the windows install as people have said but that did work. But people have also said on other forums that you cant boot windows using the EFi Boot or what ever its called so i dont think that is an option. I have repeatedly deleted the bootcamp partion and tried to partition it again but still get the black screen when booting up.
My mac is a Macbook pro mid 2012. It also is a mavericks whitch i have seen caused many others problems with bootcamp. so i have seen many answers to the black curser screen but none have worked with me. Do you guys have any suggestions or questions for me that would help me get this figured out? Thanks for the Help!

Simple fact is IF you have replaced the original built in DVD drive with a second HDD you will never be able to install Windows on your Mac, or at least not easily.
Apple has restricted Mac computers that originally come with a built in DVD drive to only install Windows from that built in drive When It Is Installed Inside the System.
These Mac's will not boot from the Windows installer from any other source, not USB stick or USB connected DVD drive no matter what make or model DVD drive it is.
So there are only three option.
    1) Reinstall the original DVD Super drive in the Optical bay and whatever drive you want Windows install on to the main bay, install OS X on that drive in the main bay then use Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows. Once that has completed you can then switch around the drives to your liking.
    2) Reinstall the Super drive to the Optical bay and whatever drive you want Windows install on to the Main bay. Do not install OS X and install Windows natively on the drive in the Main bay. The Windows 7 (and maybe a Win 8) DVD will boot the Mac computer from the DVD drive and you should be able to run the Windows installer, Partition and Format the drive for Windows only, MBR partition table, and complete the install of Windows on that drive. Then load the Apple Supplied Windows Support files you downloaded once Windows has finished the install.
Then move your drives around where you want them and install OS X on the other drive.
    3) There are reports of being able to copy the Windows install files to a partition on one of the drives you will be using and then run the Windows setup, installer, from that partition. I have no information on exactly how to do that.
