RE: Installation of Certificates in directory Server 5.1 SP2 HF2

Guys,
I am trying to setup SSL on a new directory instance. The instance itself has been up and running for a while but when trying to either copy and paste the cert block into the wizard or pointing the wizard to a file I get the following error:-
[02/Aug/2004:13:59:15] failure ( 5998): for host 10.x.x.x trying to POST /admin-serv/tasks/configuration/SecurityOp, cgi-parse-output reports: the CGI program /opt/iplanet/ukmonmonXXX/bin/admin/admin/bin/security did not produce a valid header (program terminated without a valid CGI header. Check for core dump or other abnormal termination)
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
og

Hi, We just had this same problem and used the certutil utility to insert the certificate into the database. After we did this, all was fine with the wizard! Sorry, don't have the actual syntax, but it is in the Directory Server administration guide documentation.

  • Replication problem with iPlanet directory server 5.1 SP2 HF1

If I make a apply a change to either of consumer servers for an entry that belongs to the large database, that change does get applied to the consumer targated but it can not refer the change to teh master. Neither the master, nor the other consumers get updated consequently. I did not have this problem with directory server 5.1 SP1. I only see this problem after I apply directory server 5.1 SP2 HF1.
From the error log file, I see the following message:
NSMMReplicationPlugin - repl_set_mtn_referrals: could not set referrals for replica

I have a suggestion - try another means for administering your directory - use the console only for maintenance and tuning purposes. There are several products out there that are much better for day to day operations ...
Otherwise - I think with 5.1 the view is based on the rdn of the entries - and I am not sure it is customizable. Additionally I know 5.2 solved your second issue - maybe the latest SP of 5.1 has solved it as well - though I don't really know ...

  • Problem in Publishing the certificate to directory server

I am having problem regarding the publishing the certificate.I am using iPlanet CMS 4.7 and iPlanet directory server 5.1
In the CMS >certificate manager > publishing module > mapper
It provides(manuals) two options to enable the publishing to directory server, i.e
    1)create entry automatically(default plug -in)
2)Manual entry in directory and mapper to map it.
I tried both way. When automatically create option is selected it fires an error:

  • Installation Error with iPlanet Directory Server 5.1 SP1 and Windows 2000

    Hello,
I'm having real trouble getting iPlanet Directory Server installed on a Windows 200 Server machine. Every time I install it, no matter what options I choose, I get this series of popup boxes at the end:
    - Setup is unable to store configuration data in the LDAP directory
    - Unable to create Administration Server configuration
    - Could not authenticate ldap connection, "Unknown error"
    - Unable to set ACI in Configuration Directory Server
But searching on this forum, I have found a lot of post. I have tested the different solution proposed :
    * Add on the host file the short name and the long name of my machine with it's IP adress
    * When the installation process crash, uninstall the software, reboot the machine and then restart the installation
With all this solution, the problem is always here.
    Could you help me ?

Are you using Terminal Services. iPlanet DS will not install properly over Terminal Services. You have to install from the direct attached console.

Enterprise Linux is designed for industry standard server hardware. It supports a limited and well known range of peripherals in order to provide commercial support and high reliability.
If you need Linux for any Laptop or Desktop PC, choose a Desktop Linux distribution, like Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, etc.
Your best option to run Enterprise Linux on non supported hardware is to use hardware virtualization like free Oracle Virtualbox. More information see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html. IMO, there is no compelling reason to try to install Enterprise Linux using dual boot or relying on 3rd party driver software.

One option is export the o=NetscapeRoot into a ldif file, after re-build your directories, import o=NetscapeRoot whics ever is necessay ,"do not export every thing".

  • Minimum Solaris installation for Directory Server

    Hello,
i want to set up a new Solaris installation for Sun ONE directory server.
But i don't want to install always the "entire distribution" and then turn off all services. I want to keep the solaris os installation as small as possible. Has anybody tried this before and can report some experiences? Is the "reduced network" cluster the right way to go or better the "core" cluster? Does anybody have a list of the packages which must be installed after a minimal solaris installation for the ds to work?
    Thanks a lot,
    af_inet

Since you original question is "minimum requirement
at the SERVER", I would say that X is not really
needed at the server end if you use installer text
mode CLI (command is "./installer -nodisplay")
instead of installer graphical mode (GUI). However,
to fix uninstall/reinstall issue, X is needed as the
"prodreg" which is used to uninstall packages is a X
program, without text mode option. This is correct.
It is not a must to run ./startconsole (X program)
LOCALLY so as to perform DS admin functions as you
could always run SUN ONE Console REMOTELY from any
remote host (Windows or UNIX/Linux) with just the
console binaries installed. (for large data centre
env. the LDAP server is usually locked in server room
away from your desk and you tend to use remote admin
console). This is correct too. I think it's a matter of taste if i want to install console on the DS itself or on a separate host. As long as i have only one DS i will leave it on the machine itself. But you are right, this is not a must. So i should have asked my question more precicely :-)
    Thank you very much,
    Chris

  • How to check installation type of Directory server in 5.2.

    Karthik

    Hello,
    Try the following method:
    ldd ./ns-slapd | grep libnspr | awk '{print $3}'
If the target file is a symbolic link, you are using a package/native install else this is a zip install.
    example:
    pc1234$ pwd
    /data/test/DS/Patch6/bin/slapd/server/64
    pc1234$ ldd ./ns-slapd | grep libnspr | awk '{print $3}'
    ../../../../lib/64/libnspr4.so
    if [ -h /data/test/DS/Patch6/bin/slapd/server/64/../../../../lib/64/libnspr4.so ]; then
    echo "Symlink. pkg"
    else
echo "Not a symlink - zip install"

  • Can't find SP4 patch for directory Server 5.1

I am trying to upgrade directory Server 5.1 SP2 to SP4 on sunOS 5.8, but am having some difficulties in finding the actual patch. Below is what the release notes for SP4 say about updating form a previous 5.1 version. I have found the 113859-04 patch, but it is for sunOS 5.9. I even tried to run this patch on the test server but found that it complained about everything being out of date. I have downloaded directory Server 5.1 SP4 so I could try the ZIP install, but could not find any patch ZIP that they reference from the release notes section below. I am assuming if I just do the standard install of the Directory Server 5.1 SP4 it well destroy my current configuration instead of updating it. I am hoping for any help in this upgrade as I have not found any information in all my searches. thanks for the Help.
    # If you are running a ZIP installation, upgrade by using the patch ZIP provided with Directory Server 5.1 SP4
    # If you are running IPLT packages, upgrade by installing the following packages:
    SPARC: 113859-04
    x86: 114273-04

I forgot to tell one thing: I use SSL, without SSL I do not have this problem. Perhaps it's only the popup I get when starting DS, where I have to enter the certificate password?

I think that I found the Sun endorsed book locations for using LDAP accounts that don't use authentication besides "crypt". I now can use an account with a "ssha" password. It can be more than 8 characters long.
Chapter 14 System Administration Guide: Naming and Directory Services
Read page 201 which is the pam.conf file pam_ldap setups. I edited my "/etc/pam.conf" file to reflect this
    Chapter 7 Directory Server 5.2 2005Q4 - Administration Guide
Read page 316-318 which has a graphical technique to specify password syntax. I set it up and then tried the password by running "su - brahms". It now requires a longer password than 8 characters and it is set up to use "ssha" for that UID entry "brahms".

  • Installing iMS 5.2 Patch 1 with Sun ONE Directory Server 5.1

    Hi,
In the documentation of "Installation Guide for Windows NT iPlanet Messaging Server - Release5.2" It is said that it is possible to install iMS 5.2 with Directory Server 5.1 SP2.
I am currently using Dir Server 4.16 and I tried recently to install Directory Server 5.1 and iMS 5.2 on a new machine configured to run with Win 2000 Server. The problem is that the installation doesn't work correctly, the database can't connect or I couldn't find the files with the Perl script to update the server. When I copy them from the version 4.16 and try to apply the script, it refuses to apply. It seems that Directory Server 5.1 is too recent to be used with iMS 5.2. Is it possible ?
Is there a way to get them work together instead of working with the (old) 4.16 release ? The doc says it is possible but I tried every possible ways, it didn't install correctly.
If anyone has a suggestion ...
    Thank you,
    Frdric

I have a problem while running the ims_dssetup.pl patch, here is the msg I receive :
Here is a summary of the settings that you chose:
    Server Root : d:\iplanet\servers
    Server Instance : slapd-dns1
    Users/Groups Directory : Yes
    Update Schema : yes
    DC Root : o=internet
    User/Group Root : o=gcity-creative.com
    Add New Indexes : yes
    Schema Directory : .\config
Directory Manager DN : cn=Directory Manager
Do you want to continue [y]:
Please check the user/group suffix "o=gcity-creative.com" under "cn=mapping tree
    , cn=config". at ims_dssetup.pl line 969.
And of course if I install the iMS 5.2 after that (I have iMS 5.2 in iplanet\server5 folder and iDS 5.1 in iplanet\servers folder), the installation crashes telling me that the system can't create the DC tree etc...
    Any idea about this ?

  • How to migrate Sun One directory server to a new physical server install

    need help
We have to move our existing installation of sun on directory server 5.2 to a new physical server.
We have a new physical server with a new host name. I am trying to find an easiest way to take a snapshot of our existing server and put it on a new installation
So will installing sun one directory server , its shows me two choices either to create a new instance or copy configuration from a existing server
What do i choose and which is the fastest route to replicate my old server
    Thanks a bunch in advance
    Sganb

    Hi,
I'm glad you're still using the old, glorious Sun One Directory Server 5.2, because it brings me back a lot of memories... But are you seriously talking of the 'plain' version, with no patches/hot fixes on top? If that's the case, you're using of a software that has been developed in 2004 and released in Jan 2005! Just for you to be aware, in the last *8* (eight) years a considerable number (in the magnitude of 10^3) of bugs, security problems and performance issues has been identified and fixed...
However, to provide a better answer to your question, it would be important to understand the 'big picture' in terms of scenario and requirements:
    1) Is this a critical 24x7 service for which you need to perform an on-line migration or you have a 'maintenance window' during which the service may be switched off?
    2) Is the old server member of replication environment? If yes, how many masters/slaves do you have already? Shall the new server be part of this topology? What role shall it have?
    3) Would it be possible to make the the old server able to communicate with the new server?
    4) How big is the database that you've got to migrate? Do you have any requirement in terms of caches?
    5) Do you take backups on a regularly basis and have in place working (*tested*) backup/restore procedures?
    6) Is the new server conserving or changing the O.S. and architecture? [SPARC->SPARC, x86->x86, SPARC->x86, Solaris -> ? , 32 .vs. 64-bit? ]
    7) What are the steps you did to 'install' the software on the new server?
    Thanks,
    Marco
P.S.: I don't wanna sound 'scaring' with all these questions, neither this should be intended as an 'hidden advertising' for Oracle Professional/Consulting Services, but the only way to not put in jeopardy your data is being aware of the risks, having the control of what's going on and ... possibly have a 'B' plan ;-)
P.S.S.: My last suggestion is to consider a migration to a later release AS SOON AS POSSIBLE; the latest is ODSEE 11.1.1.7, which is available here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/downloads/oid-11g-161194.html
and seems to work pretty well ;-)

You are correct. Dir 5.2 is not certified for AIX 5.2. It does install though. Like a previous reponse stated. Check the permissions for the user you are installing with and the file system you are installing to. Make certain you have enough disk space. My install took 150 MB of disk space. Finally, Dir 5.2 creates the file "/var/adm/sw/productregistry" during install. If you do not have permissions to /var/adm/sw, you may have troubles.
