Re-installation of Mac OSX

Hi All.
I've had my macbook since July 2008. I have recently been having a few problems with it. I had to put in the installation discs twice within two-three weeks.
Just recently I went on a weekend trip and when I came home, I turned my laptop on and it was just the gray screen with the gray apple and spinning wheel. I a few forums and tried a few things, but nothing has worked. My dad found a way to get the install discs in and try to install everything all over again.
Here is the NEW problem. When I get the second disc in, after three minutes it says that there is an error with installing Mac OS X on my computer and tells me to click "continue" for more information. Once I click continue, it tells me that Mac OS X cannot be installed due to garage band not found...? I have no idea what that means. I don't use garage band.
Has anyone had this problem? This is brand new and did cost me a great deal of money. Geek Squad at Best Buy told me they could fix it for $200, but I don't have that kind of money. *HELP PLEASE*

itsthecrock, a couple of things come immediately to mind. With the gray screen w spinning wheel I would suspect maybe bad or poorly seated RAM... or hard disk drive corruption or failure.
The RAM is easy enough to reseat. Power off and unplug the MacBook, then access the RAM modules. Carefully remove then replace each module in its slot, making sure it is seated properly and locked in.
As for the hard drive, I would first run the disk utility to verify the drive. (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility). You may need to boot from the restore disc to run the disk utility to repair the drive if necessary. Even if the drive checks out as okay, I would still consider wiping the drive and doing a fresh reinstall of Mac OS from the factory disc(s).
Check to make sure your restore discs are clean and undamaged before using them.
Also, needless to say, if you can, be sure to backup any files, photos, music, etc that you wish to keep before doing anything with the hard drive.
Geek Squad, by the way, would probably take these same steps... but you can do it for free!
If the reinstallation continues to fail, I would consider making an appointment with a Genius at the Apple Store. If you bought the computer new in July, then it is still under warranty and they will help you... still FREE!

  • Creative Cloud Desktop App installer crash (Mac OSX)

I wanted to update my existing CC Desktop App, but that didn't work out, so I uninstalled it, and tried to reinstall. But that brought me into a whole other world of pain and tears.
Basically, when I finally worked out where I could download the .dmg (hint: if you try to download the desktop app installer through chrome on mac, you'll get the .exe), and I ran the installer, and just says this: "Downloading Creative Cloud Desktop App" and then promptly crashes, leaving no trails behind. I cleaned my mac from old logs and whatnot, did not work. I ran Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, that just deleted all my existing CC programs so I can't even work with those anymore, but the cleaner provided nothing to let the Desktop app installer actually work.
I have a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro "13, Mac OSX 10.9.5, 2.5 GHz i5, 8GB RAM. I've had virtually no problems with Creative Cloud, except After Effects 2014, which could never complete an update.
I suspect I need some kind of "offline" installer for the Desktop app.

SkyOtic if you are being offered an exe by Chrome then I would recommend reviewing your web browser settings and add-ons.  It appears that Chrome is currently identifying your computer as utilizing a Windows operating system.
Please download and install the Creative Cloud Desktop application from Creative Cloud Help | Creative Cloud for desktop.  I would strongly you recommend the use of a different web browser unless you have corrected the behavior occurring within Chrome.
If you continue to face difficulties then I would recommend reviewing Error "Failed to Install" Creative Cloud Desktop application - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/failed-install-creative-cloud-desktop.html.

Actually, it looks like your install did not go well. On a G5, 10.3.9, we have no such errors. Among the things to watch for: incomplete downloads; make sure you are not installing as root user. Other: did you check these installation notes: http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/reference/docs/2/Installation_ReleaseNotes.html#hwsw
There is a troubleshooting table as well that pertains to all platforms.

  • Help - "Installation failed" Mac OSX could not be installed

I have had a really lousy day with the Leopard install. I got the five license family pack.
2 x white MacBooks - fine - although on one the DVD kept spitting it out and after about 10 goes it worked.
1 x Mac Mini - blue screen upon restart. Still not fixed.
    1 x 24 iMac - fine
    1 x 17 iMac - DISASTER
I need help on the last one and can't find a post anywhere.
I did the install. It started back up and I was ready to rock and roll. But it changed by account to "standard" rather than "administrator". Spoke to Apple, suggest erase and clean install, started that, then read a post on how to fix this after wiping. So that put me in a foul mood...
Then, I put the Leopard disk in and then did the erase, repair, verify, etc. I then chose the now blank hard drive as the destination drive. It then goes through the motions of calculating the time remaining, etc.
After about 5 minutes of "installing" I get a whopping great big exclamation mark and the text "Installation failed, Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer, The installer could not validate the contents of the "base system". Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. Click restart to restart your computer and try installing again". I have tried this a few times - no good. Apple Australia is now closed for the night.
So I went back to my original 10.4.8 iMac install disc and thought I would try that. I would then put Leopard over the top of that. It says it can't install this operating system on the selected drive.
So, I can't install the new, I can't install the old.
    HELP!!!
    Thanks,
    Andrew
    Sydney, Australia

Me and my folks bought a copy each. I installed mine on my Macbook Pro and there was no issue. I went to my folks to help them as they are not as confident as me and had a disaster. They have a first generation current configuration iMac G5 (the one just before isight was added). But the installer completely freaked. The log spat out heaps of errors. Each attempt got completely different behavior. Sometimes it would just go idle and do nothing more. Two attempts that got further than the idled attempts ended up failing about half way through telling me the disk is damaged. The disk looks perfect and the installer verification checks out. I checked the disk on my MBP and it checks out there too. No trouble starting up from it or accessing any of it's features. So I tried it out on my macbook pro and it works fine. So I checked out the iMac with disk first aid and it checks out also. The end result was I had to reinstall 10.4 and run the updates over it and give up. Took me all week end (just finished just now)... Also the ROM is ok as I installed the 10.4 version without a single error in the log. They will be returning their copy to the store monday!
    --- Added
Incidentally. When I installed at home I was able to deselect everything except the system essentials. But at my folks the installer wouldn't allow me to deselect the languages. The difference between the two is I did a fresh installer and they asked for me to just do an update. In my attempts I did end up doing an archived install, no difference. Only thing I didn't do was a format install. In the end I should have tried as I had to reinstall 10.4 from scratch anyway and ret a few things as the installer had partially installed the new OS. I just didn't have much faith in the formatted install from working either as at the time I wasn't sure if the ROM had an issue with the disk or if there was some fundamental conflict with the hardware, either case wouldn't suggest that approach would work any better.

  • Installation problem Mac OSX  on G4 mac

I'm running a mac G4 iBook. while Flash Player is actually
installing, it just stops when it gets to ... 4 items to install
... and stays like that without going forward. I've tried 5 times
and every time have had to force-quit (once waited an hour!).
does anyone know why it won't finish the installation?
    thanks, stanley

Me too, on an iMac G4! :-(
The best I can do is downgrade to Flash 7, which was before
installers were made apparently... Does this installer seem to have
    a problem with G4s?

  • Downloading PSE 10 installer on MAC OSX 10.9.5

Hi, I am trying to download and install PSE 10 on my new mac. However the installer download is not working. It downloads but the file seems empty or does not work. Any suggestions?

Ambereen Shaikh are you downloading the installation files from Download Photoshop Elements products | 13, 12, 11, 10?  If so what specific error messages do you receive?

  • Flash Player: Connection failed. Unable to complete installation. Mac OSX

I'm working on a mac running 10.10.1 Yosemite in Safari. My current Flash version is 15.0.0.
On most videos and pictures it now says 'Your Flash Player is out of date".
I've clicked on this icon, which opens saying do you want to download the newest version, and clicked yes.
I've downloaded Adobe Flash Player Update several times.
The downloading always works, the problem is with the installation:
It failed the first time, and all following times it 'picks up' at about 30% then goes up all the way to 97% (sometimes 99%) and then says: Connection failed. Unable to complete installation.
I've tried all the links in the forums saying download directly from here: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player_osx.dmg - but safari can't find the link.
I wanted to deinstall Flash Player and found this link on the adobe website(Uninstall Flash Player | Mac OS): http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash_player_os x.dmg -> but it says "Safari can't find the server fpdownload.macromedia.com" so I can't even uninstall it!
I have no idea what else to try???
I also tried to open all those links in Firefox and Chrome and they weren't found there either.
Has anyone ideas what I can do? All the links that I found in the forum which solved the problem for others are 'not found' when I click on them.
    Thanks for any tipps!!!

How to perform a "clean install" of Flash Player in Mac OS X
I wrote those instructions. They're how I installed Flash Player on my new Mini.

  • Need Ur Help about installation of Mac OSX

    Hello !
I'm trying to install MAC on my PC, but i can't
I've been booting from a DVD, but when the apple with grey background appears my PC halted and need to restart. I'm using this DVD file "SnowOSX_Universal_10.6(432)GM_v3.5"...
I would like to ask you which version do you recommend me to install along with where can i download it.
My computer detail are as under,
    Intel Core (TM) 2 CPU
    6600 @ 2.40GHZ
    RAM 2GB
    Thanks & Regards,
Awiting your prompt action in this regard,

It is NOT possible and it is Illegal under the Terms of Useage to install any version of OS X onto a Windows based PC.  You may and can only install it onto Apple computers.
    Hope this helps

  • Installation Error - Mac OSX Lion

I got the following installation error (four attempts same error).  I launched Activity Monitor as instructed to terminate the indicated activity, but it wasn't listed as running.  Any clues?

You should try resetting the PRAM by rebooting while simultaneously holding down the Command-Option-P-R keys until you hear the Second chimes.  That may clear it.  However, in all honesty, the message you're getting does sound like either a very corrupted or failing hard drive.  You may need to take it in to Apple.
    Hope this helps

  • Using iSQL*Plus with MAC OSX

I have Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 installed on OSX together with JDeveloper.
I have also done an apachectl start so that when I point the browser at http://localhost:80 I get the Apache admin screen.
The problem is that pointing at http://localhost:80/isqlplus gives the message: The requested URL /isqlplus was not found on this server.
I think that isqlplus is not installed properly and is not registered with the server. I could not see any conf file in the directory $ORACLE_HOME/Apache. However there is a file called isqlplus.conf.sbs in the $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/install directory that looks like it needs to be used.
What should I do to get this running please?

    Hi Alison
I think you are right to suspect that the Apache I have is not supplied by Oracle. There was no installer for MAC OSX it was a much more manual effort; I dowloaded the release from the Oracle web site and then unzipped the archive, created the oracle user and account from the unix prompt and ran the scripts to create the database objects.
I searched for httpd.conf and I find the following:
    [Paula-Prestons-Computer:/] root# find . -name "httpd.conf"
    ./private/etc/httpd/httpd.conf
    [Paula-Prestons-Computer:/] root#
    [Paula-Prestons-Computer:/] root# grep -i sql ./private/etc/httpd/httpd.conf
    [Paula-Prestons-Computer:/] root#
and I think this is the Apache that is bundled with the OSX operating system as it has nothing about sql in it.
Thanks for your efforts, any more news or info you get would be appreciated.
    Paul.

  • IPhoto recently after installation of Mac OS X 10.8

how do i bring back the i life applications which disappeaared after installation of mac osx 10.8 and doesnt accepted on the appsotre( cost money)

You bring back iLife in one of two ways:
    1.  Open the App Store, click on "Purchases".  If you find GarageBand, iMovie and iPhoto there, you can click "Download".  I think you tried to say above they are not there, but I'm just making sure.
    2.  Use your iLife '09 CD to reload the applications, then do a "Software Update".

  • Adobe Reader 9 Silent Install Mac OSX Leopard

When I try to install the pkg silently (I want to distribute it on all our machines) nothing seems to happen. I'm running leopard on intel.
This is what i try to do:
installer -pkg AdbeRdr90_en_US_i386.pkg -verbose -target /
    this is my result:
installer: Package name is Adobe Reader 9
installer: Upgrading at base path /
    installer: Preparing for installation.....
    installer: Preparing the Disk.....
    installer: Preparing Target Volume
    installer: Preparing Adobe Reader 9.....

    installer: Writing files: 0% complete
    installer: Running Installer Script
    installer: Writing package receipt
    installer: Finishing Installation.....
    installer: Finishing Installation
I'm worried about the lines :
    Writing files: 0% complete
Has anyone seen this problem before? When I run the install manualy so by clicking on in the finder the install just runs fine.
    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi Bjorne,
Looks like I've got the same issue, only with Flash Player 9 Silent installer on Mac OSX Leopard. Did you find a workaround?

It installs logic pro but at the end it gives me an installation error. Someone stole my mac osx cd at school so im unable to reinstall or repair osx. In the disk utility it doesnt let me repair my disk. Some help would be much appreciated.

Shut down and reboot holding the Command + S keys. Allow the black screen with white text to fully load, then type fsck -yf and hit return. Wait until you see "Disk has been modified" or "Disk appears to be okay" then type reboot and hit return.

NOW i have a flash player NOT WORKING and cant watch anything on the internet! what can i do now? will there be another update so it will work?????????

I have been following the issues with installing the current Adobe Flash Player for Mac on the message boards since my Flash Player ceased functioning correctly this morning.

    • I was initially getting the Illegal Plugin message on sites with imbedded YouTube.  I downloaded the Flash Player Uninstaller and that remedied that problem but Flash is still not working
    • I've tried installing the Flash Player using the small 1MB download application located at: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    • I have also tried using Terminal as described in one of the Adobe forums
    • Both gave the same results (see attached screenshots)  I have tried this several times (each time uninstalling beforehand) and it always stops at the 7% and then gives the 47% on the timeout screen
    • It appears to be a downloading issue.  I was not able to find a direct link to the full 16MB Flash Player installer to verify it is a downloading issue.
    UPDATE:
    • I downloaded the "Download the Macintosh Flash Player 11.5 Plugin content debugger" from the following link and everything appears to be working correctly now.
    Hope this helps everyone out.
