Re-Installation of Oracle
Hello,
I am hoping someone can help me. I had to uninstall and then re-install Oracle 8 on a laptop. I ran the uninstall program from the Oracle cd, removed all Oracle directories from the hard drive, cleaned the environment variables, and removed Oracle from the registry.
I tried to install oracle, however, it will not let me --- I am receiving an "SID already exists" error. Where else to I need to remove oracle components from ?
Reason for re-install --- I was receiving an ORA-12638 Credential Retrival failed error -- I could not use sqlplus nor DBA studio. I was informed by another department to uninstall & re-install.
Any assistance anyone could provide would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you!
After I ran the "uninstaller" on the Oracle CD .. there were services still in existance, however, once I deleted the c:/Oracle folder, they were gone. I also re-booted the pc and double-checked, before I tried re-installing.
Thanks !
Tammy
Hi,
look into services, is there any services is still exist or running with the same name.
or give any other SID which you have given previously.

Help needed on installation of Oracle 9i on Sun Solaris 8
Hey,
Help needed on installation of Oracle 9i EE on Sun Solaris 8. The problem I met was: we followed the installation guide from the documentation. And we selected the choice "install software only". After it was done successfully, we run Database Configuration Assistant utility to create a database instance. But finally it always tried to create the instance at the root directory ( / ) which doesn't have enough space and then failed. The case was that we have set the enviroment parameters: $ORACLE_BASE = /export/mydata, $ORACLE_HOME = /export/apps/oracle9i. That means it should be installed at /export/mydata, but it didn't. Any help or advice are welcome. Thanks.
SimonI have downloaded Oracle 11G R2 version from Windows and extracted it in Windows and copied it into DVD after extraction in two folders. Now I am mounting that DVD in Solaris 10 installed in my VMware . I made a new directory named as 'installation ' under /export/home/oracle and copied the folders from DVD to 'installation' folder. Now I am entering installation folder and try to do ./runInstaller as 'oracle ' user and getting the error mentioned before.

Supported OS versions are listed in the Install Doc - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24321/pre_install.htm#CIHFICFD
If you insist on using an unsupported OS, you are on your own.

Installation of Oracle 10g on Fedora 9
OK,
I need to install Oracle 10g R2 on fedora 9 OS.
I have already tried 10201_database_linux32.zip, but it seems its not compatible with Fedora 9 as it says
os version must be redhat -3, suse-9, redhat-4, unitedlinux-1,asianux-1 or asian ux-2
Can anyone guide me with the proper installable of Oracle compatible with Fedora 9 and install instructions?
Thanks in AdvanceTry using the doris script available here: http://dizwell.com/2008/05/01/doris-redux/
Does the job in one command, and hides your operating system specifics from the Oracle installer while it does it.
There's even a video of it being used here: http://dizwell.com/2008/09/29/proving-a-point/ Even though that's of 11g on Fedora 9, the script says it works for 10g on Fedora 9 in the same way. I haven't done that myself, but the site owner says he has, so you should be OK. -

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
LoukasHi Elmar,
I have checked the packages and the XFree86-libs-4.3.99 is not installed. I guess I will have to install it.
Now your question about oracle user. I am not sure if you have performed any SAP MDM installation with ORACLE RDBMS but the installation guide is totally different than the normal SAP inst guides. Indeed someone needs to install separately SAP MDM and ORACLE and in my installation I do not install NetWeaver since it is not mandatory for the testing phase of the project. You can have a look at the guide (it is very poor -no reference to ORACLE details):
https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000271882007E
So the official ORACLE inst gudie says to install the ORACLE software with the oracle user.

Installation of Oracle AS 10g on Red Hat ES 3.0
Installation of Oracle AS 10g on RedHat ES 3.0 (All issues are cleared and u will b done with no error like Java Configuration Failed and make files errors)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 Custom Installation
Copy from OTN Note
Start
Oracle 10g is certified to run the base release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (Advanced Server and Enterprise Server) without updates. If you have update CDs, you can use the boot CD from the update instead of the boot CD from the base release to automatically apply all updates during the installation. All updates from Red Hat are supported by Oracle.
1. Boot the server using the first CD.
o You may need to change your BIOS settings to allow booting from the CD.
2. The boot screen appears with the boot: prompt at the bottom of the screen.
o Select Enter to continue with a graphical install on the console. (For other installation methods and options, refer to the Red Hat Installation Guide.)
o The installer scans your hardware, briefly displays the Red Hat splash screen, and then begins a series of screen prompts.
3. Language Selection
o Accept the default.
4. Keyboard Configuration
o Accept the default.
5. Welcome Screen
o Click on Next.
6. Mouse Configuration
o Accept the default.
7. Installation Type
o Select Custom.
8. Disk Partitioning Setup
o A thorough treatment of disk partitioning is beyond the scope of this article, which assumes that you are familiar with disk partitioning methods.
(WARNING: Improperly partitioning a disk is one of the surest and fastest ways to wipe out everything on your hard disk. If you are unsure how to proceed, stop and get help, or you will risk losing data!)
This article uses the following partitioning scheme, with ext3 for each filesystem:
The 9GB disk on the first controller (/dev/sda) will hold all Linux and Oracle software and contains the following partitions:
- 100MB /boot partition
-1,500MB swap partitionâSet this to at least twice the amount of RAM in the system but to no more than 2GB (32-bit systems do not support swap files larger than 2GB). If you need more than 2GB of swap space, create multiple swap partitions.
-7,150MB root partitionâ This partition will be used for everything, including /usr, /tmp, /var, /opt, /home, and more. This was done purely to simplify installation for the purposes of this guide. A more robust partitioning scheme would separate these directories onto separate filesystems.
9. Boot Loader Configuration
o Accept the default.
10. Network Configuration
o It is usually best to configure database servers with a static IP address. To do so, click on Edit.
o A pop-up window appears. Uncheck the Configure using DHCP box, and enter the IP Address and Netmask for the server. Be sure that Activate on boot is checked, and click on OK.
o In the Hostname box, select manually and enter the hostname.
o In the Miscellaneous Settings box, enter the remaining network settings.
11. Firewall Configuration
o For the purposes of this walk-through, no firewall is configured. Select No firewall.
12. Additional Language Support
o Accept the default.
13. Time Zone Selection
o Choose the time settings that are appropriate for your area. Setting the system clock to UTC is usually a good practice for servers. To do so, click on System clock uses UTC.
14. Set Root Password
o Enter a password for root, and enter it again to confirm.
15. Package Group Selection
o Select only the package sets shown here. Leave all others unselected.
o Desktop
- X Window System
- Gnome
- KDE
- See my comments in the RHES 2.1 section regarding choice of GUI.

o Click on Next to proceed.
16. About to Install
o Click on Next.
17. Installing Packages
o Software will be copied to the hard disk and installed. Change disks as prompted, and click on Next when the installation is complete.
18. Graphical Interface (X) Configuration
o Accept the defaults unless the installer does not recognize your video card. If your video card is not recognized, you will not be able to continue.
19. Monitor Configuration
o Accept the default if the installer correctly identifies your monitor. Otherwise, select a compatible monitor from the list.
20. Customize Graphical Configuration
o Accept the defaults.
21. Congratulations
o Remove the installation media from the system, and click on Next.
22. The system automatically reboots and presents a new welcome screen.
o Click on Next.
23. License Agreement
o Read the license agreement. If you agree to the terms, select Yes, I agree to the License Agreement and click on Next.
24. Date and Time
o Set the Date and Time.
o If you want to use an NTP server (recommended), select Enable Network Time Protocol and enter the name of the NTP server.
25. User Account
o Create an account for yourself.
o Do not create an account for oracle at this time. Creating the oracle account is covered later in this section.
26. Red Hat Network
o If you want to use or activate your Red Hat Network account now, accept the default, click on Next, and follow the product activation instructions that accompanied your Red Hat product.
27. Additional CDs
o Click on Next.
28. Finish Setup
o Click on Next.
29. A graphical login screen appears.
30. Congratulations! Your Linux software is now installed.

Installation of OracleAS 10g on Red Hat Linux ES 3.0
Installation of Oracle AS 10g on RedHat ES 3.0
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3
- Gnome
- KDE
- See my comments in the RHES 2.1 section regarding choice of GUI.
o Applications
- Editors
- Graphical Internet
o Servers
- Do not select anything in this group.
o Development
- Development Tools
o System
- Administration Tools
o Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- Do not select anything in this group.
o Miscellaneous
- Legacy Software Development
o Click on Next to proceed.
End of OTN Note

Installation of Oracle 8i(8.1.7) on RedHat ELAS 3.0
Gentlemen,
Did anyone successfully complete the installation of Oracle 8.1.7 on RHELAS 3.0?
With the information and note on the web page www3.sympatico.ca/arothmel/oracle/817.html, I am able to proceed with the installation of most of the components until the Net8 section. I have checked the "Perform typical configuration" box. The installation continues for some time then hangs. I can do nothing except to reboot!!
Any idea why? Or any trick to make it work?I received this tidbit from another user:
Normally after install (and glibc213 patch), the netca and dbasst can work, but netasst does not work. To fix this problem, you can vi $ORACLE_HOME/bin/netasst and modify the line 110 from "$JRE -classpath $CLASSPATH ...." to "$JRE -nojit -classpath $CLASSPATH ........" This can make it work.
This way you can run netasst from the command line
Hope this helps -
Installation of Oracle 10g in Solaris 10 zones
Hi Everybody,
Is there any Documentation for Installation of Oracle 10g in Solaris 10 Zones.
I am having multiple zones shared by one common SAN Storage.
I want to install oracle 10g in one of the particular local zone.
Regards,
Prosenjit Mukherjee.Last time I looked at metalink the documentation said zones and containers were not supported. That may no longer be true so you should check there first.

Java Plug-in problems following installation of Oracle 9i
I have been experiencing repeatable problems with the Sun Java Plug-in following installation of Oracle 9i on our servers. Our installation of the Sun JDK 1.3.1_04 or higher seems to conflict with the Oracle installation. Following the install, navigating to any web page that includes an applet reference results in a plug-in error stating that it cannot locate the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in\1.3.1_01. The key does exist however for the installed version of the plug-in. ie [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in\1.3.1_07]. My only workaround to fix this is to add a new registry key 1.3.1_01 that contains the contents of the registry key for the installed plug-in (for example 1.3.1_07).
The Oracle installation only inlcludes the JRE, which AFAIK isn't referenced outside the ORACLE_HOME directory. The internal JVM couldn't be causing the conflict either. Might be an installer bug of some sort, but not one I have heard of.

How to find the Date and time of Installation of Oracle in Windows?
Hi ,
Is there any way to find the installation Date and time of Oracle in Windows?
Regards
RajeshIf you have never recreated/restored/reincarnated the database, then CREATED column from v$database should tell you when you created the database.
If you are looking for the date/time of installation of Oracle home, check the logs under OraInventory.
