Re-installation of OSX

Apologies if this is in the wrong section.....
I've been having problems with my broadband at home, its basically been running extremly slow so I thought I'll try everything possible to resolve the issue before raising the issue with my ISP. To cut a long story short I re-installed OSX & have obviuosly lost everything from my powerbook including all the iLife apps that came with it & I do not have an iLife disk. I have also lost all my songs etc from iTunes although they all still remain on my iPod. Is there a way to reinstall all the lost iLife apps (namely iPhoto as I don't really use anything else)) & transfer all the songs from my iPod back to my powerbook (I've tried this already but can't get it done, I keep keep getting protection error messages, don't know if there is anyway round this)

itsthecrock, a couple of things come immediately to mind. With the gray screen w spinning wheel I would suspect maybe bad or poorly seated RAM... or hard disk drive corruption or failure.
The RAM is easy enough to reseat. Power off and unplug the MacBook, then access the RAM modules. Carefully remove then replace each module in its slot, making sure it is seated properly and locked in.
As for the hard drive, I would first run the disk utility to verify the drive. (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility). You may need to boot from the restore disc to run the disk utility to repair the drive if necessary. Even if the drive checks out as okay, I would still consider wiping the drive and doing a fresh reinstall of Mac OS from the factory disc(s).
Check to make sure your restore discs are clean and undamaged before using them.
Also, needless to say, if you can, be sure to backup any files, photos, music, etc that you wish to keep before doing anything with the hard drive.
Geek Squad, by the way, would probably take these same steps... but you can do it for free!
If the reinstallation continues to fail, I would consider making an appointment with a Genius at the Apple Store. If you bought the computer new in July, then it is still under warranty and they will help you... still FREE!

Why does my Macbook Pro keep shutting down during installation of OSX Mountain Lion?

    Hmm, good luck then!
I'm pretty much exactly on the opposite side of the planet, but I've been to Vermont and remember its rural beauty well. However, I can't imagine you having the only Internet connection within a reasonable radius (where "neighbors" hanging off the same ISP don't count). Uh, that note only if your wired connection to the router produces no good result, either...

My first recommendation would be to update all the way to OS X 10.6.8 using Software Update.
When I updated my older MacBook a couple of years ago to Snow Leopard the same thing happened to me when I first plugged in my iPad. iTunes would not recognize it. I wanted to take a few days with 10.6.3 before I fully updated the OS, but I made the decision to just update all the way and see what happened. After I updated all the way to 10.6.8, everything worked fine.

  • 10g Installation on OSX errors in invoking

    Hello,
I ran into some serious "Error in invoking target..." errors during the installation of 10g on OSX 10.3.8, which lead to a completely useless Oracle. Have you guys had the same problems? The first one was because of a directory that didn't exist (/Volumes/u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_18/precomp/lib/proc). The second one concerned a gcc error (ld: Undefined symbols:_nnfoboot). I wasn't able to continue successful installation after this.
    Thanks,
    Stefan

  • Cs3 ré-installation mac osx 10.6.8

    Bonjour,

    Merci.

  • Installation hangs - OSX upgrade on MacBook Air

I am attempting to upgrade OSX on my MacBook Air.  The installation hangs at "Time remaining: Less than a minute" and eventually cycles off.  The error log indicates "missing CoreServices." This has been going on for > 24 hours.  Any advice?

Tried to upgrade a Macbook Air with 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to Mavericks from the Apple store. Nothing seemed to happen when clicking on the dowload button and the request APPEARED to hang. The download button changed to a light grey for a few seconds, then came back as a clickable download button. There was no progress bar in the downloads section. This problem is known to Apple but was not solved as of November 1, 2014.
In fact, the upgrade download button did trigger the download.  The only indication one gets is in the dock, where the OS X icon will show only "Download... ".  There is a minuscule progress bar under the icon and it will take 30 minutes or so before progress starts to show in blue!
If you use an internet wire connection with a router (without other computers connected), rapidly blinking lights on the router will confirm high traffic to the MacBook Air.
The complete download took over 3 hours, via the USB/ethernet port. I also made sure the computer had power supplied by the wall charger.  For some reason, the download caused the light on the magnetic plug of the charger cable not to show red or green, and the battery remaining time was not operational on the computer screen.
Installation took more than double the time shown as remaining.  You just have to be patient.
After rebooting, the fan was constantly on and the battery remaining time was still not functional on the header bar. It took about an hour for Spotlight to re-index the computer.
All upgrade activities completed, after restarting the computer, the fan was running loudly and the battery remaining time was not working.
I tried the following as recommended for a similar problem reported after installation of Mountain Lion. By pressing Control-Shift-Option and the power button all at once for a second, the computer switched off.  Pressing the power button to restart the computer showed everything was back to normal: no fan noise, and the battery remaining time percentage works again.  Plugging in the charger also brought again the red charging light.

  • Incomplete installation of osx

hi i was installing os x leapord to my tiger...but i had to stop that installation as i had to go somewhere so i did quit the installation but when it asked to restart it gave me options of osx leapord windows and in hurry i clicked on osx 10.5 leapord...and unfortunately its not starting now i can only see apple screen nothing else....
please help me.....what shall i do to resolve this....

Your OS X drive is very likely hosed now, if you interrupted an upgrade or archive & install of Leopard over Tiger. Back up your data, erase/reformat your drive, and reinstall Leopard.

  • CS4 installation on OSX lion

I am trying to install cs4 design premier on my new macbook pro running osx 10.7.3. I have the dvds, also tried downloading from a link somewhere in the forums here, same problem with each. The dvds do work on my older macbook.
When I open the setup file, the red box appears in the dock and I am prompted to enter my computer password. When I do that another red box appears in the dock, this one bounces, the original one has the light that shows it is active. A status window opens that says Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium Installer: Initializing on the top and main_pageSubTitle in the window. The status bar gets to about 80% and I can hear the dvd running, then the extra red box stops bouncing and the dvd stops and the status bar stops and that is that. Nothing more.
I have tried verifying and repairing my hd and the Adobe CS5 Cleaner Tool. Also have tried creating a different user account on my computer and installing there and also starting up in safe mode (though I am not sure I did that correctly, I tried a few times but I don't see any indication that I am in safe mode once the computer starts other than taking a little longer to boot up.
Please help! I can't afford to upgrade my cs right now!

Don't know whether this will help you
    but
download the trial of CS4 from here
    http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
    relative to your package
then your serial should work presuming it's legit and stuff!!

I Have been attempting to reinstall osx for over a day. I have the message Loading Installation Information stuck on the screen and has been for a really really long time.
i Have erased my disk as per instruction on another thread and then selected reinstall osx from the recovery menu.
i Have had the installer log throughout and it keeps complaining that a library was not loaded because the image was not found, the same error pops up every ten seconds or so.
    i Would appriciate any help
    thank you,
    alec

Not knowing what you have done:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

My phone works all fine when am in mumbai but as soon s i leave mumbai I am not able to make an otgoing call
This is entirely a carrier issue.  If your carrier (airtel) doesn't provide service outside of Mumbia, this has nothing to do with your iPhone.
i feel i need to change my brand

  • Hello Guys, I have a serious problem with Installation of OSX

    Hello ,

I called to the apple care and said the problem they simply said to reinstall the OS. I noted the detailed procedure and formated the Hard disk put my Snow Leopard 10.6 and booted . After selecting all the launguage setting and agreeing the terms and conditions, I got my hard disk in view with an yellow triangle and exclamatory mark in it . There was a message saying I can't install the OS in this Hard disk.
Please help me guys ..... Thanxs .

Because your attempting to install a earlier OS X version 10.6 and you have a newer OS X version 10.7
You need to remove your personal data off the machine first, then your open to fixing your computer.
You need to learn about Lion Recovery, it's a bootable partiton that's just like a OS X install disk.
Read through the User Tip's here, it has links to explain how to do things properly, including backing up your data off the machine, Lion Recovery etc.

  • Adobe Player 11.7 installation with OSX 10.8.3

    Hi,
Is anyone else out there struggling to get the installation of 11.7 to actually work.  I have a new mac book air with no flash player as yet installed, and it won't install at all.  You double click install flash player, and then nothing happens.
I have tried this on my mid 2012 mac book pro, which has 11.6 and get the same result when trying to upgrade, which means its a common issue.
    Anyone have a solution?
    thanks

The OS X supported range for the current Flash release remains 10.6 - 10.8. I have had no issues updating to Flash 11.7.700.169 on OS X 10.7.5 or 10.8.3. This is on a 2010 MBP, and mid-2011 Mac mini, respectively.
On your 2012 machine, access the Flash preferences pane, select Advanced, and Delete All... The latter will pop a dialog and select the “Delete All Site Data and Settings option.” Now choose Delete Data. And, delete the current Flash installer.
Verify/Repair permissions in Disk Utility on your boot drive.
Move the contents of /Users/yourlogin/Library/Caches to Trash. Don't bother to empty Trash just yet.
Shutdown your Mac. When you press power again, also quickly press and hold the shift key until a grey horizontal progress bar appears. You have entered safe boot mode. At the login screen, and before you click on the right arrow to login, press and hold the shift key through the appearance of your desktop and menu bar.
    Empty the Trash. Reboot normally.
Download a fresh Flash installer from Adobe, and exited from all browsers and system preferences, install it.
Do you now have a working Flash installation? If you do, perform the above procedures on your other Mac.

Take a look at this article.
    http://www.howtoforge.com/reset-forgotten-mysql-root-password
I tried this with mysql 5.7.4 (Milestone 14) and OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) and it works.  It should work on 10.9 too (though I haven't tried it on Mavericks).
5.7.4 installs with a randomly generated password for mysql root.  On Linux RPM installs, this initial password is stored in /etc/mysql/.mysqlsecret - which you are supposed to use for the initial login.  Couldn't find it's equivalent anywhere on OS X.  Will file a bug report with MySQL.
