Re-installed SL then to Lion again and now I can't get my backups from Time Machine!

Here is the problem.
One day I booted up my mac with lion, and it wouldn't go through to booting up.
It did this more than once, so I decided to re-install the whole  thing ( I checked the drive first, and tried all the tricks plus utility before doing so )
So, I ended up putting Snow Leopard, ( Had my External off this whole time in case )
Then upgraded it right away after the updates to Lion.
I update again and then let Time Machine do it's thing.
I go into Time Machine after, to look into old back ups, I go just a month ago and I'm not finding anything.
All the dates are on the side and everything, I type what I am searching for, and nothing.
I know they are there because I checked before this all happened.
What in the world is going on with this?
The only thing I know that I changed right now was my name for the home folder, but that was about it.
Nothing else has been changed. And again, the dates in my machine go all the way back to 2008.
Am I suppose to let it sit for awhile or what?
Please, any help is appreciated because there's some valuables in here =/
( iMac 2008, with Lion right now )

Ok, The problem was, when I re-installed Snow leopard and it asked me for my mobile me, I put the name I have for it in.
What I didn't notice is, it used that name as the main computer name ( it didn't do this way back when I had first had Leopard/Snow then lion )
Then again, I didn't have Mobile Me until later.
***ANSWER***
Point is, the changing of names for the Home of the computer is what caused Time Machine to now not see the originals.
So word of advice, make sure the NAMES on your Home folder never changes from the original that you backed up with.
Now just to throw this in here, the reason why Lion stopped cooperating I now know is, my Hard Drive was failing and on the verge of dying.
After the few re-installs, I had decided to try and stick with Snow Leopard. After I updated it, it went blank with just the wall paper.
I force restart it after it wasn't doing anything and get greeted by the folder with the question mark.
I then try to go into disk utility and then end up seeing, my HDD doesn't even show! =O
So the Hard Drive went kaputs, got a new one now : )
