Re-installed software on eMac cannot get desktop to come up

Got help here when I couldn't get into AppleWorks. Got that solved. Was able to use AppleWorks and internet the night I re-installed the software. Came home next day after daughter was using computer and saw color wheel / beachball of doom. She wasn't home at the time, so I couldn't ask her if anything unusual happened. Shut computer down, tried steps on p 51 of eMac manual about problems that prevent you from using your computer. Usually gets things right back up. All that happens is Mac OSX block appears, blue runs across the progress bars, until the last box -- the login box or something like that. Blue progress bar goes ALMOST to the end and stops with what looks like an eighth of an inch to go. Convinced I could just whack the monitor lightly on the left side and make it go over -- just kidding. I get stuck at this same spot every time. Using my daughter's laptop at a public library right now. May have to come back here tomorrow to look for any responses that can help me solve this. I can tell you -- saw the question asked of someone else who reinstalled software and lost his iTunes -- I didn't do a backup. Hey, it was working fine after the installation. It said "software installed successfully". Didn't even lose any of my past AppleWorks documents! Expected never to see them again. Can anyone help me get my home computer working again -- wanted to try this before I shelled out $49 to Apple Support over the phone.

I shut it down, then I hold the option key when I press the power button. I click the hard disk icon and and arrow to the right of the hard disk icon. I got the same results, the Mac OS X blocks come up saying things like "checking disks", "waiting for network initialization" . . . final block I'd get is "Login windows starting". Progress bar would go ALMOST to the right and stop with a little bit of white left in the bar.
I am back up after trying the single user and verbose (pressed command and s OR v after startup to get those). Still ended up the the Mac OS X blocks doing the same thing. Tried the safe mode. I think with the safe mode it ended up alternating between a blank black screen and a blank blue screen. Then put reinstall disc one in. Already had current version of OS X, so I had to send that to a send that somewhere where it would be named "previous" folder or file. This has been a lousy week with this computer. I'm back up, but can't get into Safari. Using internet explorer where internet explorer used to be the one that worked flaky. Guess I should be grateful for any way into the internet for now. Hate this ugly courier font I see when I'm typing. Not only can't get into Safari, can't get into iTunes. My original problem was with AppleWorks. THAT seems ok. I'll just give you this for starters. I'll go back and look at my applications to the the responses I was getting there. Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Did you install the iDVD Extra Content on the iLife 09 disk when you installed iDVD?
    Check in your HD/Library/Application Support folder for an iDVD folder.  In it will be the iDVD themes. 
    Make sure that folder is selected in iDVD's Advance preference pane.
    Also run Disk Utiltiy to repair disk permissions.

    Have you gone through the usual drill questions
    1. Does the problem exist with or without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    2. Are you running the program as Administrator?
    3. Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements 12?
    4. Are you using a pen and tablet device instead of a mouse?
    5. Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
    Have you done any uninstall/reinstall of the program yet? If not, hold off doing that until you evaluate the above.
    And, when you  uninstall/reinstall, please use the scheme
    a. uninstall the usual Control Panel way
    b. do a free ccleaner run through (regular and registry parts)

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

    Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.  If that does not work you need to take the iPad to an Apple store genius bar to have it evaluated by the technicians.

  • Cannot get desktop media to cooperate

    I have a Blackberry curve and I cannot get the Roxio Media Manager to display my pics and videos on my media card.
    When I have it hooked up to the computer, it will list the device and has folders underneath it. Then it actually displays the media card as well, but no drop menu underneath the media card. Very frustrating. I am using OS 4.5 on my Blackberry. I have 4.3 Desktop manager. Do they need to be the same? Does the media card need to be formatted first? I cant remember if I ever formatted it, but I have pics and videos on there that I do not want to lose. These may seem like stupid questions, but Im a new user. Thanks for any help.

    I would make sure the options are set as listed below.
    The go to options, media card, menu key, select forums.
    Do a battery pull and then try it.
    You can use a PC to transfer info between the PC and the media card.
    Basically you will attach the USB to the BB and the PC. Don't use desktop
    manager. Go to "My Computer" on the PC and the BB will show as a flash drive.
    Then you can "drag and drop" files to the BB.
    Use the following settings in the media card options of the Curve.
    Media card support ON
    Encryption mode NONE
    Media transfer protocol ON (Storm and Bold only)
    Mass storage support ON
    Auto enable Mass storage support when connected ON

    No data will be lost when doing the following: pull the battery while the device is ON.
    Replace after a minute, Let the device reboot 1-3 min, see if the problem is fixed.

  • HT4623 Just installed io7, now I cannot get Netflix  to be full screen. Also ipad start up etc seems a lot slower.

    I don't use netflix yet on mine but the slow startup I might be able to help. I just restarted mine and in maybe 5 seconds is restarted.
    If you have a lot of programs running in the background that may be causing the slow start or shutdown. To close those running programs, 4 finger upto get to the running programs and to close them, tap one and hold for a second and flip upwards,, it will go off the top of the screen, closing it. Do this with all that you want closed, there will only be the main screen you can't close that will be left.
    I also shut off location services, Bluetooth and under safari there a use data option which for some reason turned on but I could have clicked yes somewhere and those got turned on, but I turned them off since I don't need them on.
    Then try a restart.

    Similarly, "They can, however, access their non-Thunderbird email accounts" doesn't make any immediate sense to me. Can you indicate what it is they are doing that does work?
    There's no such thing as a "Thunderbird email account". Most people using this phrase seem to use it to describe an email account provided by their ISP, which they access via an email client such as Thunderbird as opposed to accounts provided by independent providers such as googlemail, yahoo, outlook.com, etc. However I can't infer your intended meaning here.

  • Cannot get Desktop Manager 4.7 to connect to Storm

    I have looked at the similar post at this location,

    and used its trick of connecting the Blackberry Storm *before* starting Desktop Manager 4.7.  I enter my password, then turn on DM and I get a question of whether to use an old profile, so I say "cancel," i.e. no profile.  It then freezes up, with a terminal and a Blackberry appearing on my Blackberry screen, and "working" on my Blackberry icon on my PC (Windows XP operating system), and the manager menu grayed out.
    This Blackberry is for work and as such is set to be connected to its Enterprise server, and I am doing the Desktop Manager operation on my own PC (not the enterprise server).
    I do this because I wish to transfer the rather comprehensive Outlook contact list from this Blackberry Storm to a second Blackberry Storm that is my personal one, which IS hooked up for my PC being its server, rather than the one at work. 
    Maybe there is another way to transfer files, e.g., with a USB drive?

    you have one device that is linked to Exchange with BES. It works perfectly, and especially the contacts are synchronized in real time without requiring the Desktop Manager.
    you have another device, and you want to synchronize some of the contacts that are in Outlook to your personal device.
    If I were you, I would uninstall the Desktop Manager, and install it again, and only connect the personal device (at some point you have to say "I am using BIS").

  • I am trying to install software. I keep getting error message: 1008:9,-5000 Access denied Error. Plus: "You don't have enough access privileges for this installation." I have Administration privileges on MY machine. So, why can't I install software on it?

    The machine I am trying to install on is a MacBook Pro. The software is for an IRIScan express 2 scanner. It says (and provides a disc containing the software) it is compatible with Mac OS.
    In System reqirements it states the following:
    This is the minimal system configuration required to use Readiris:
      a Mac OS computer with a G3 processor.
      the operating system Mac OS X version 10.2 (“Jaguar”). Earlier ver- sions of the Mac OS operating system are not supported!
      110 MB of free hard disk space.
    I have no idea what (nor where to find out if it has) a G3 processor is. My machine has Mountain Lion. Is this "above" or "below" "Jaguar"?

    Err... Try VueScan first. VueScan have one-for-all software, Silverfast - lot of modules for specific scanners. If they not have version for your specific scanner - no chances.
