Re-installed Tiger hAving problems

I upgraded from Panther 6 weeks ago. No problems. All of a sudden in the past two weeks things started to go wrong. 1)Pinwheel of death froze _omputer, for_ing manual shutdown. 2) I-ons stopped working, everything stopped working, click on anything and a drop down window would appear saying what the icon was supposed to do, forc_ing manual shut down, 3) Email accounts disappeared after normal shut down and restart. Had to reconfigure. 4) Firefox browser disappeared and was replaced with earlier version after log out, log in. 5) Irregular extreme slowness. 6) Desk top photos stopped working, had to re set-up. 7) Guess what letter key stopped working and is now working again? 8) I was unable to back-up my HD in any mode.
I was advised to erase and reinstall. I did so and after bringing everything back up, getting all my software updates installed, I discovered my iPhoto had gone missing. It is nowhere to be found. It has been there since I had the computer (December 2004) now it is gone. The Applecare tech seemed awed and was utterly unhelpful. Tried but couldn't. Suggested I get a Product Specialist but none were available as the Leopard seems to have eaten them all. Other things are also going on. Little items that used to be on my computer (iMacG5) and wre easily downloaded and installed (ex: Windows Player) no longer are....

If iPhoto missing is your issue now, then a utility called Pacifist will extract it from your Mac's original installer disk onto your hard drive.

New GPU Quadro k5200 installed and having problem with my AE, PPro CS6 not using the GPUs cuda.

Hi guys, I recently bought a workstation from BOXX tech with a new GPU Quadro k5200 installed in it.
I am having problem with my AE, PPro CS6 using the GPUs cuda.
I went to Nvidia Settings and use the specific App to select it to use GPU n- Quadro k5200. But still not working.

If you edited the Cudatextfile in the Adobe Premiere CS6 directory correctly then the acceleration should be enabled. The only way it it's not is if you have the wrong driver for that version of Adobe or did not edit the text file with the exact name of the card. You can use the GPUsniffer in that same Premiere directoy with the command prompt to see the name the GPU should be listed as. The Ray Tracer file in AE has to be edited with the same listing.

Can I uninstall leopard and install tiger without problems?

I'm considering purchasing a refurb iMac - I don't want an iMac mind you, but the Mac Pros are simply priced way over my head and I need a new computer!
I can't get a straight answer from Apple about whether it will have Tiger or Leopard on it but because of Adobe's refusal to make CS2 compatible with Leopard, I must use Tiger.
I've been told I can, if I must, uninstall Leopard and reinstall Tiger but I've also been told I'll end up with a host of problems doing that
does anyone know if this will work or not?
Apple is driving me crazy... no one will asnwer that question for me
and why they don't have a mid-range Mac Pro is beyond me but what do I know?

I look at the Apple Store refurbs list on a daily basis.
The longer you wait, the higher the chances that you will receive an iMac that was produced following Oct 26, and was therefore released with Leopard as the MINIMUM version of OS X. Currently, I'd guess that there is VERY little (almost zero) chance of that - today - but more chance as each day passes.
A refurb purchased now will have Tiger on DVD, and Tiger installed. The box will contain an upgrade disc that will install Leopard.
As time goes on, Apple will start to receive Leopard Macs (Leopard on DVD, and installed, but no Tiger) produced after Oct 26 that get shipped back from the stores after buyers have returned them. Those returns to Apple, and Apple's refurbishment process, do not occur overnight. Those Leopard Macs will not be able to run Tiger, or if they will run it, it will not be supported by Apple (no phone support/no warranty until Leopard would be installed).

There are some (lower-priced) Mac Pros sold with the slower processor option, but they are seldom seen on the refurb list, and sell quickly when do appear. One would certainly sell within minutes of being placed on the list this close to the holidays. (A good alternative at a close price w/o sales tax: eBay 250194178376)
There are others besides Apple selling the older production Macs and advertising that they have Tiger on them, not Leopard. (From a third party, I very recently purchased a Mac Pro NIB with Tiger only.) Those units will be available less and less as each day goes by. I have purchased a Leopard family pack for possible future use.
Don't wait too long to make up your mind, or the choice will no longer be available for you:) A mid-priced Mac Pro might be one of the last G5s, so you might want to look at eBay item 120191603098 (I have no affiliation on either eBay item, just a bystander).

HD wiped and after repair/OS install still having problems

argh! Great panic! Okay, this is a long one..
My OS has been acting a little strange recently, appeared to be problems with the running and opening of actual OS programs (iChat, Safari, Preview etc) but since im getting a new laptop relatively soon i thought nothing of it. My stupidity led to my downfall! One night while on the internet, my entire computer froze up. After 20 minutes of this, there was no option but to restart, which i did. The computer stuck at the apple loading graphic and did so for an hour. I followed the instructions to the apple manual and inserted installation disk 1, got to the disk utility and tried to repair. it failed then appeared to wipe my entire HD, stating that i had zero files. Fortunately i know an apple technician who somehow salvaged some of my files onto dvds, although the majority were corrupt at this stage. he then used software to repair my HD and gave it back to me so i could reinstall OS. that was two days ago. Its still suffering! it completely froze up an hour ago and refused to load the os. after failed attempt at repairing the HD it suddenly rebooted and loaded up. Now there are problems with applications; itunes and safari in particular. cant even run safari now. any help would be fantastic as im obviously not equipped for this sorta thing. Eek!

First of all, I would ask the Apple technician you mentioned for running some hardware tests. You find these diagnostic tools either on your OS install CD/DVD or can download it from Apple's support site.
It sounds like a hardware-related problem, maybe the logic board that controls the HD or something else.
Although I not believe in, it simply could be a broken harddisk (have you experienced that your computer worked slower, the HD became louder (clicking sound, for example), lost HD disk space)... anyway, since you are personally known with an Apple guy, I would him running some hardware tests and then see how it turns out.

Installing Tiger on MacBook Pro. . . Problems. . .

Im trying to install Tiger on my MacBook Pro. Im having a lot of problems and ive decided to reinstall everything. As i bought this second hand, it did not come with any CDs/DVDs and documentation. Its running Tiger OSX 10.4.11 at the moment and i will not let me restart from the DVD disc or open the application. It says that i cannot install Tiger on this computer.
Does anyone have any ideas on how i can do this?

You will need to get the original system DVDs that came w/the comp from the person you brought it from. The person should NOT have sold you the computer without them which violates Apple's Agreement.
Until you get the system DVDs all you have is a glorified doorstop.
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those -

Problem updating newly installed Tiger (upgrading from 10.3.9)

I'm having troubles updating my newly installed Tiger (10.4.3) to the newest version of it.
I tried Software Update but after checking it says that I have the newest available software (which is not true), and when trying updating from the combo updates available at Apple website, I get the following screen:

I've downloaded all combos, starting from 10.4.8 version until 10.4.4 one (which is the one I took the screenshot above), and all of them show the same error.
I've already restarted the computer, repaired permissions, disconnected my external drives, and still couldn't update my operating system.
I upgraded from Panther, version 10.3.9, using the option of “upgrade” with the Tiger installation DVD.
Could somebody help me out here?

Did you run Disk First Aid repair on your boot volume
with Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when
booted from the Tiger install disc before proceeding
with the installation and were all external
peripheral devices except for a keyboard and mouse

No, I didn't, and my external USB hard drive was connected to the Mac when I was updating.
If no problems were reported by DFA repair, this
probably won't make any difference but if there were
problems reported that were successfully repaired, it
might.
Beside repairing disk, I also repaired permissions once again, and there were no problems reported.
I restarted the computer, and still software update continued to say that I was up-to-date and the update combos I downloaded all showed the same error message from the screenshot above.
Will I need to reinstall again Tiger? And will the option Archive and Install work even if I'm reinstalling again the same system?

Problems installing Tiger on the Beige G3

I have a rev A Beige G3 with a sonnet 500MHz G4 upgrade, a pioneer DVD RW drive and the original 6gb hard drive.
I am trying to install tiger, but I'm having problems. I can insert the disk and it will show up fine on the OS9.2 desktop, but when I launch XPostFacto 4.1, it says that the symbolic links to /etc, /tmp and /var and missing or damaged. But the DVD works fine in OSX 10.0 on the beige, and in 10.4 on a Sawtooth.
I would have tried using Jaguar to run XPostFacto, but I have too many problems with the monitor switching off during the installation, so I decided not to bother.
Does anyone know what I should do?

i got tiger running almost 100% but not quite cause tiger refuses to work right with my pioneer dvr-110D. other than that tiger is running great. i had to do the video black out fix for 10.2.8 for tiger cause tiger would do the same thing.
sorry for not having a quick link to the fix cause im on my other Beige G3 AIO and i dont have it bookmarked.
what i did was get tiger 10.4 installed, then proformed the fix and rebooted and the onboard video didnt come on. this is where a second video card comes in handy ( wich i have a Radeon 7000 i use as main screen. then i installed the 10.4.7 update and rebooted and the onboard video started to work again and all has been well since with the video.
now the pioneer DVR-110D drive didnt work hardly at all in 10.4 or 10.4.7 it would not mount unless i booted with a disk in the drive. but still then even tho it was mounted it would not work or play dvd movies or audio cd's or burn disk's.
i updated to 10.4.8 and the drive will still not mount unless i boot with a disk in the drive. but when a disk is mounted it will play dvd movies and audio cd's but it still wont burn disk's ( some times it will burn half way but fail) and some times will stop working during dvd movie playback and audio cd playback.
now in OS 9.2.2 with the modded Pioneercdr authoring extention i can burn disk's with iTunes and the built in burn program. and will burn flawlessly with toast titanium. the drive also worked great in OS X 10.2.- 10.2.8 and have burn ability with patchburn installed
tiger on the other hand will not play nice with my drive. but other than that tiger run's great on my system. the spec's of my system are in my sig

hi all.
i've tried to install tiger onto a g3 imac but i'm having some problems.
basically, once i've inserted the install dvd and restarted, the screen is either totally blank or it's very very dark and the desktop is sliding off to one side, plus the text and icons are blurred.
i checked that i didn't need to update the firmware first, and the computer said that i didn't need to.
does anyone have any idea what i can do? i don't have the original OS9 install disk any more and i'm starting to panic ...

Not to be silly but do you you have DVD capabilities? Not all G3s (mine included) have DVD drives. Is the firmware 4.1.9? What is your machines specs? Do you have enough ram, hard disk space?
I haven't read about these types of going ons, however on the Tiger OS X.4 discussion board Gulliver has an excellent check list/ decision tree.

Problems installing Tiger on G3

I am having troubles installing OS X (10.4) on our G3 Desktop (Blue and White). The G3 has almost all original hardware, including built on firewire. Things added were a DVD Drive from a G4. It meets all the required specs for Tiger. It has all the latest updates and firmware upgrades. And the version I am trying to install is a generic OS X Tiger Installation Disk, for multiple computers.
When inserting the DVD on bootup, the display never comes out of powersave mode. If I start the system without the DVD in the drive, it boots into OS 9.2.2 just fine. Then if I insert the disc it pulls up the contents, I click on the installer and it says click Restart to begin the installation. Again it tries to boot but nothing ever shows up on the screen. I can hear the DVD drive spinning up about 30 seconds after restart, but nothing ever happens.
I've tried holding 'C', I've tried selecting it as a startup disk from within OS 9. I've even tried to install over the network, but everytime it tries to bootup the installation, the screen never gets a signal.
If you can please give me some suggestions I would really appreciate it!

Hello there...i have a problem installing tiger 10.4.6 ....cd boots ok and all; and it starts installing and all..... but at the very end it gives me this "there were errors please try to install again" (and of course i tried like 1000 times....actually 1001)the software is original and the computer meets the minimum requirements....now ...do i need to go ahead and install the very first os x and then this one? and how do i use the Diagnostic at boot up? You are trying to use software that is over 10 years old. As I read it, FCP 3.0.2 required 10.1 or higher at the time, but as FCP is reliant on quicktime, which has been updated many, many times, I doubt that you will ever get it to work properly.

Repair your Apple Sofyware update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install

Having problems launching iTunes on my pc. Had iTunes on this particular pc for over a year. Have downloaded all of the new updated versions. Now I get an error message saying "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall." I have backed up the pc to an earlier date when when the program was working, and also performed serveral system diagnosis all saying the program is incompatible. Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now?

Having problems installing PE 2.0 on new hard drive

I'm having problems as I stated. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and had PE 2.0 on the last hard drive. This is a new hard drive, the welcome screen appears, I get the accept license screen and then the installation screen. As soon as I click install Photoshop Elements 2.0, the DVD-ROM drive spins down and stops. I tried using compatibility mode with no success either. I know there are more P E's out there. I own PE 12 too and I want to put 2.0 on the drive for simple things before putting on PE 12.
Any help would be appreciated!

How big is your new hard drive?
If it's not over 1 TB, then try copying the contents of the cd to to your hard drive and then in the Adobe Photoshop Elements folder, right click
on the Setup.exe and choose Run as Administrator
Also, turn off the real time scanning for your virus scanner before installing, just make sure your disconnected from the
internet and don't forget to turn your your virus scanning back on after installing pse 2.
