Re-Installing iCal From Software Disk

I'm trying to re-install iCal from my Leopard Disk, and I read all the discussions online that you use the "optional installs.mpkg" function. When I get to select an application to re-install, it won't let me choose anything. It's greyed out, and it says "skip" beside each application. So how can I re-install iCal?

Use Pacifist to extract it manually, and then rerun all applicable updates.

  • Installing rosetta from SL Disk does not work

    Hello All,
I have spent a good portion of the day trying to install Rosetta from my SL disk; using both the Optional install folder and also utilizing Pacifist software to extract from the SL disk; but without any luck.  Each time I install, my iMac says that the install was successful, HOWEVER, I cannot find it anywhere on my computer; neither in my app folder, using Spotlight, or checking for Rosetta in my App folder in the System Profiler.
    1. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, and...
    2. Help me install Rosetta?

    1. Expecting a system-level component to have an accessible UI. Rosetta mostly works behind the scenes and isn't something which can be interacted with directly. If you know exactly what to do, you can determine whether or not it's present, but it's not worth bothering to check if you've just installed it and aren't having any problems.
    2. See above.

  • How to hide installed application from Software Center 2012

    Hello,
I would like to ask you whether it is possible in Software Center 2012 to remove the record of program that was installed successfully from application catalog.
Currently it stays visible in SC as "Available" constantly informing users with popup that there is new software available for installation. This may be disturbing behavior for users.
Technical specialist in our company would be very glad to know some workaround. Is there some xml file or registry on user computer that could be used to remove such record from Software Center 2012?
Thank you very much for any advice!

  • Installing OS from a disk image

    Hi,
I have quite a few systems that I need to rebuild. I've burned disk images of all the apps we need, onto a FW800 drive which has really sped things up. One thing I can't figure out though, is how to install the OS from a disk image. Each of these systems are getting a fresh hard drive with no OS installed. Booting off the install DVD works fine with fresh drives, but how does one boot into a FW800 drive with a disk image of the install DVD?
I thought cmd-opt-shift-delete was the key stroke for this, but it doesn't work for these systems, can anyone help out?
These systems are a combination of Leopard and Snow Leopard and are all Mac Pro's from the 2006-2007 to the early 2009 models.
    Thanks
    Stuart

Cool, thanks, I was kind of thinking along those lines, but couldn't quite put my finger on it/figure it out, that makes sense, appreciate it.
    Thanks again for quick reply,
    Stuart

  • Install SSD from Recovery Disks (newerToshiba), or how?

    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/Will-Toshiba-Recovery-Discs-properly-align...
^ See the last post of that thread.   The writer made recovery disks from the new laptop, then installed the SSD and used the recovery disks to install the operating system and software onto the new SSD.  (Didn't clone the hard drive, in other words.)
If you don't need to save settings and migrate files, is recovery-disks-to-SSD the best way to go?
I have a U505-S2012 Satelllite and a 256GB Crucial M4 SSD sitting here, ready to go,  LoL.  But I didn't know whether it was even possible to make the recovery disks install to a SSD.  Or make them install to a hard drive that's smaller than the original.
    Any thoughts or advice?
    Thanks!

As for me it's no matter how to install win7 on the new SSD drive - fresh install, clone hdd or use Factory Recovey media. For the x220 I've used the 2nd and 3rd methods.
As for twiking of win7 after a not clean installation just use sw from Intel for their SSD or twik it youself during 10-15 min. Alignment is not a problem if you use an SSD with TRIM support.
If you need UEFI the only clean installation is the method.

  • Can I do this? install SL from retail disk before new MBP arrives

I have a new 17 in MBP coming from Apple in a few days.
I have a Toshiba 1Tb HD which I intend to put in it when it arrives.
While I am waiting, can I put the Toshiba in a case and do a fresh install of 10.6 from my Snow Leopard retail disk?
Presume if that will work, there is no reason not to proceed with the migration from my old MBP.
Then when the new MBP arrives all I have to is fit it.
I know you can't use the supplied install disks from a different machine, but presumably this doesn't apply to the retail SL disks which are not machine specific.
    Thanks

Wouldn't any updates come through Software update anyway?
Again I don't know about SL but any updates I have ever run have also been available as .dmg files you can download directly from Apple, or at least have Software Update download them but not install them (that way you get to keep a copy). You need to install the OS, then run the various update packages until you've at least reached the version the computer needs. SU is no good if the drive won't boot the computer to the point where you can run SU. I don't think SU will do this for you while you use your older computer because I think it just looks at the boot drive and ignore any other OS versions on any other volumes.
It would be an interesting exercise and if it doesn't work, just do as you say and install when the new computer is there.

  • Won't install OS from Tiger disk.

MacBook 1.1 667MHz Intel upgraded to OS X 10.4.11. Need to downgrade* to OS X 10.4.10. Took out trusty Tiger install disk (legally purchased from Apple, black, grey X, version 1.4) pop it into MacBook and MacBook won't boot up from disk (option, command-., "C", nothing works.)
So, I read "Help" that says to double-click on installer icon. Dialog box pops up: "Mac OS X 10.4 cannot be installed on this machine...."
Question: How can I "Archive and Install" OS X 10.4.10 on my OS X 10.4.11 MacBook?
Please speak slowly, I am hard of understanding.
    RGH
*QuickTime 7.3.1 broke Flash, which I have to have.

Perhaps I have forgotten, but I don't recall - and can't find - any Intel/MacBook-specific install disks that came with the computer. Should I have had these? If I can rummage through the attic and find it/them, can I "Archive and Install" just like a PPC machine?

  • How do you make a bootable install partition from a disk image of an install disk.

I have an iMac g4 running Leopard and would like to install OS X 10.3 on a different partition Leopard is on. However the super drive in the iMac will not read the disk I have, so I used my MacBook Pro to make a disk image of the install disk to use to install on the iMac. I do not know how to make the disk image into a bootable partition so I can install 10.3. The person I bought it from has already created a partition of the Leopard install disk and it is bootable but I do not know how he did this. Please help me. Thanks!

However the super drive in the iMac will not read the disk I have, so I used my MacBook Pro to make a disk image of the install disk to use to install on the iMac
Could be the cd is bad.  Could be a bad cd reader.
I' not sure what you are trying to do.
    To install,
--  you need to boot from a cd.
-- copy a working installation from another partition. try carbon-copy-cloner
-- could try target disk mode.  There is a cd sharing mode.

cd sharing across ethernet.  Not sure if this works for booting.

  • Installing Drivers from Leopard disk

I installed windows and got myself through to the os seemingly ok. I popped in the leopard disk to install the drivers. From here it goes through the autorun process alright and then restarts on its own like it should. When windows loads back up I get one of those generic error reports, and no further drivers install off the "found new hardware" wizard as its described in the boot camp installation guide. Im assuming the drivers havent successfully installed because the os is not recognizing a wireless internet connection and the apple keys (volume, eject, etc.) are not working in windows.
If anyone could help me out that would be fantastic, thanks.

Any luck with this? Seems like I'm having the same issue.

  • Installing Tiger from a Disk

I am currently using 10.3.9 and i received Tiger in the post from Apple support.
I haven't loaded it on to my machine yet (a bit nervous!)
Just wondering if by loading on Tiger does it wipe everything on my machine?
And how do i then get from 10.4 to 10.4.11?
I know probably a very basic question... sorry, but hope someone can help?

Just wondering if by loading on Tiger does it wipe everything on my machine?
Not if you select the correct options:

Before doing any changes on your computer it is a good idea to do a complete backup. A bootable clone backup with a Firewire drive means you can always restore your computer 100% should something go wring during any installation.
    Cloning And Backup Tools
A bootable clone is an exact copy of your drive which is capable of booting your computer. Making a copy of your computer which is capable of actually starting the computer requires special copying procedures. Some people just back up data files but if you have problems you have to reinstall all your operating system and all your applications. With a bootable clone you just start up from the backup drive and clone back everything.
To copy files from one hard drive to another hard drive you can use:

  • Installing iDVD from a disk

    Hi all,
I recently put together a startup drive with OSX Lion. I wanted to be able to install iDVD with the rest of the iLife softwares and it is no longer available. I saw a suggestion in these forums to purchase an iLife '11 install disk and install iDVD with that. I purchased the disk on Amazon and am getting this error message:
Not sure what to make of this. Could it be that iDVD cannot be installed onto a disk running OS 10.7.4?
It was suggested to me to try creating a disk image of the the install disk with disk utility and using that to install. I tried creating a new disk image with settings 'image format: compressed' and 'encryption: none' and got this error toward the end of the process after two tries:
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Dennis

    Hi Sig,
After talking with Apple Support that seems to be the consensus. They are expediting me another install disk.
    Thanks.
