Re-installing Intermedia on 8.1.7 db
Hi Guys,
I am installing IFS on a 9iAS which points to an Oracle instance running on another server with 8.1.7 version.
On the installation options I wanted the IFS on a different machine the 8.1.7 I choose the partioning and Intermedia option but the Installer returns me an exception saying the Intermedia was badly configured how can I reconfigure only the intermedia without screwing my production db? Or is there a way I could install the Intermedia as I intend to go ahead with only the partitioning as for now?
I would be glad for your help.
interMedia is installed on the dataBase. Intermedia does have functionality associated with iAS, but it must be installed in the database first.
I think that perhaps you do not have interMedia installed in the 8.1.7 database, and it needs to be there to support the functionality you want.

Hi All,
I'm hitting the error, "No page has been created for this Content Area (WWS-32141)" while accessing portal help in 3.0.9.8.4.
This error is coming after installing intermedia in my 8.1.7.3 database (not the enable intermedia option in GUI). Is this a known issue?
Thanks in advance.
With best regards,
NevinZdenek,
I had the same thing happen. What I did was abandon the install, uninstall ALL Oracle from my machine (I had Oracle reports, JDeveloper and other stuff installed). This included uninstalling 8.1.7 (Don't know if I needed to go that far but I did). Once my machine was clean I installed 8.1.7, created a minimal database and installed 9iAS. I didn't get that error again, but the Portal install failed miserably and I'm to the point of starting over again.
One problem I'm having is a recurring blue screen of death with NTOSKRNL.EXE having an unhandled exception, never had that till I installed 9iAS so I am thinking that the error is somehow related. Have you seen that? -
How to install Intermedia over 8.1.7.4
Is there any way to install intermedia over Oracle 8.1.7.4, running on solaris 5.8 ?
All I've seen are old documents claiming you would have to totally uninstall Oracle 8i, re-install with intermedia, and then apply 8.1.7.4
Is there ANY way to bypass this and install intermedia over 8.1.7.4 ?
thanks,
Yoram ayalonIt should be installed in the default install. You should be able to install it with the Universal Installer...

How to install interMedia web agent
Hi folks,
I downloaded im8154_lnx.zip (interMedia Web Agent 8.1.5.4) for linux
from Oracle. The webserver I am using is Oracle HTTP server.
Before I install the web agent, the HTTP server works fine.
I read the document for installing interMedia web Agent, however,
it is not the case when I tried to install the agent. For example,
the doc asks me to include mod_oraordwscias.conf in the oracle_apache.conf file,
but the mod_oraordwscias.conf file doesn't exist. I only have three
files in the /ord/web/apache/:
mod_oraordwsc.c mod_oraordwsc.h mod_oraordwsc.module
I also don't understand what's the file mod_oraordwsc.module for.
Does anyone know how to make the interMedia Web Agent module works with
Oracle HTTP server? Thank you so much.
Best regards,
Kai HuangHi Kai,
The interMedia Web Agent is not available for the Oracle HTTP
server on Linux, nor are there plans to port it or support it on
any platforms or web server configurations other than those shown
below. For information on alternatives to the Web Agent,
please see the interMedia software page on OTN:
http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/intermedia/software_index.htm
The closest equivalent of the Web Agent is the interMedia Code
Wizard for the PL/SQL Gateway.

nullHi,
The problem here is that the web agent has to be installed into the same Oracle home as Oracle HTTP Server/Oracle Portal. Unfortunately, this was omitted from the web agent's installation README. (This has just been fixed and the new version has just been replaced on OTN.) To get the web agent up and running, de-install it from the Oracle8i home and re-install it into the Oracle HTTP Server/Oracle Portal home.
Sorry about the README, hopefully this will get you going.

Installing Intermedia 8.1.7 as a Win2000 Service
I am running Oracle 8.1.7 and Intermedia. Currently intermedia is running in a CMD window started from a batch file. How can I run this as a Win2000 service ? Has anybody tried this before or has instructions how to do this.
Many Thanks.I think you might be confused.... interMedia Text (now Oracle text) has a server that updates the index. the Text component is mostly in the database.
You might want to ask in the Oracle text forum, as far as I know, this server is not designed to be a NT service. -
Problem installing additional options after upgrade to 8.1.7.4
Hi all,
the installer gives me a bit of a problem. I installed 8.1.7 without intermedia and upgraded the installation to 8.1.7.4.
Now I need to install intermedia onto the same ORACLE_HOME. I do this from the 8.1.7.0 cd-rom.
But before I can select only to install intermedia, the installer says that there is an higher version of the database installed in de ORACLE_HOME and the installer can not continue and suggests to install into a different ORACLE_HOME.
I tried to install from the 8.1.7.4 staging area, but that way one can only upgrade allready installed opptions.
The only option I have left to try is to install into a different ORACLE_HOME and manually copy everything into the exsisting ORACLE_HOME. But I'm affraid that would leave me with a buggy installation (the installer not knowing what is going on and such).
I'm sure I'm not the first to do this.
Ideas anyone?
TIA
Robin BetjesMight as well respond to my own posting, since this is still at the top of a google search for UTL_NLA invalid.
The only solution is to either use transportable tablespaces , exp/imp, or expdp/impdp to move your data over to a fresh 10.2.0.3 or 10.2.0.4 system. The problem occurs due to database originally in 32-bit mode being upgraded to 64-bit 10.2.0.3 prior to applying 10.2.0.3 patches 5892355 and 5871314. Applying these two patches after you have already upgraded it 10.2.0.3 will not help. The corruption enters during the Oracle upgrade process and once present is unfixable. We pushed oracle support for a long time but never got a workable fix. -
Intermedia webAgent doesn't work with Apache 1.3.12 on SuSE Linux 6.4
I've used runInstaller script on the Oracle Enterprise edition 8i release 2 and installed Intermedia WebAgent for Linux. After installation, the README file says Apache needs to be recompiled with the intermedia support added as a module. After compiling apache, http://webserver/intermedia says no document is available.
Have you tried
http://webserver/intermedia/~test
http://webserver/intermedia/DB_agent/~test
to see whether your web agent and database agent are working?
Also, check the log files in your Apache directory.

Oracle Text/Intermedia issue
Hi Friends,
To implement search capabilities in my oracle database, iam trying to install and configure intermedia. While doing this i came across a few issues:
1. In Our current setup we wish to use Oracle intermedia. All we need is to be able to create ctxsys.context index and query our tables using CONTAINS keyword. Do we need to install Oracle intermedia for this or Oracle Text is enough or these two are tied together?
2. After intermedia install, I found that 4-5 tables with names DR$indexname are created. Do we need to take into account any memory allocation issues while creating this index(ctxsys.context )?
3. Also the query takes longer time to retrieve results. What are the considerations to optimize the query? (The table that I am querying has about 5000 records and I created ctxsys.context index for two fields of sizes varchar2(4000) and varchar2(2000) )
Any help on this wd be highly appreciated.
Thanks in Anticipation.
Deeps1. In Oracle 9i you need only Oracle Text, no need to install Intermedia
2. Yes and you can control in which tablespace you want to create this table. You can control this when creating the datastore (Please double check about datastore as I don't remember exactly where to specify the storage clause)
3. This is difficult to answer unless we have more details like tables, query and execution plan etc. But in general you should analyze the table and indexes as well. Are you using fuzzy, soundex, stem or % search? -

Installation
1.What are the steps to install interMedia Text manually, AFTER installing the code via the
installer?
A.
cd $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/admin
B. as SYS:
@dr0csys.sql ctxsys system temp
where ctxsys is the ctxsys password
system is the default tablespace for ctxsys
temp is the temporary tablespace for ctxsys
C. as CTXSYS:
@dr0inst.sql
/oracle/db/dev118/ctx/lib/libctxx8.so
(on Solaris)
where /oracle/db/dev118 is $ORACLE_HOME
D. as CTXSYS:
@defaults/drdefus.sql
Note: this is assuming you want U.S. to be your language default, otherwise run the
corresponding drdef for your language.
2.What are the steps to install interMedia Text manually, with a Net8 Configuration?
A. Configure an IPC listener address.
For example, change:
LISTENER =
(ADDRESS_LIST=
(ADDRESS=
(PROTOCOL=tcp) (HOST=ap118sun.us.oracle.com) (PORT=1521)
to:
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC) (KEY = EXTPROC0))
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = ap118sun) (PORT
=1521))
This shows the full LISTENER definition in your listener.ora. Note: EXTPROC0 ends in a
zero.
B. Add a system identifier (SID) name of PLSExtProc and a program name of EXTPROC in the server's LISTENER.ORA file.
For example, in the SID_LIST_LISTENER definition, insert:
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC = ...
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME=PLSExtProc)(ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/db/dev118)
(PROGRAM=extproc)
C. Add a net service name description entry for EXTPROC0 in the server's tnsnames.ora
file, using SID rather than SERVICE_NAME in the CONNECT_DATA section.
For example, add this to the end of tnsnames.ora:
extproc_connection_data =
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=EXTPROC0))
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SID=PLSExtProc)
(PRESENTATION = RO)
This entry should be added exactly as you see it here (do NOT substitute your SID
anywhere, do NOT change the case of any text). Note: EXTPROC0 ends in a zero, RO
ends in an Oh
1.How do I check my interMedia Text installation and setup?
A.
lsnrct1status
should give you the following:
LSNRCTL for Solaris: Version
8.1.5.0.0 - Production on 31-MAR-99 18:57:49

STATUS of the LISTENER
Alias LISTENER

Services Summary...
PLSExtProc has 1 service handler(s)
oco815 has 3 service handler(s)
The command completed successfully
The important information to understand here is the service handler for PLSExtProc.
B. Create a user/table/index/query thus:
As SYS or SYSTEM:
create user ctxtest identified by ctxtest ;
grant connect, resource, ctxapp to ctxtest ;
Do any other grants, quotas, tablespace etc. for the new user. As CTXTEST:
create table quick
quick_id number primary key,
text varchar(80)
insert into quick ( quick_id, text )
values ( 1, 'The cat sat on the mat' );
insert into quick ( quick_id, text )
values ( 2, 'The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog' );
commit;
create index quick_text on quick ( text )
indextype is ctxsys.context;
At this point, if your Net8 setup is NOT correct you will get:
create index quick_text on quick ( text )
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-29855: error occurred in the execution of ODCIINDEXCREATE routine
ORA-20000: ConText error:
DRG-50704: Net8 listener is not running or cannot start external procedures

ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.DRUE", line 122
ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.TEXTINDEXMETHODS", line 34
ORA-06512: at line 1
If everything is OK, you will get:
Index created.
Now try some queries:
SQL> select quick_id from quick where contains(text, 'cat')>0;
QUICK_ID
1
SQL> select quick_id from quick where contains(text, 'fox')>0;
QUICK_ID

InterMedia Web Agent problems...
I have Oracle 8.1.5 and OAS 4.0.8 on an NT machine. I have installed interMedia Web Agent, having shut the OAS services down first, configured the application as described in the doc and restarted all services. I have one listener for OAS on port 90. When I try to access http://servername:90/intermedia/~admin I get a 'Page cannot be displayed' error. Why?
I have checked all the settings within OAS and they look fine. NT is running SP5. I can access http://servername:90/ fine.
Any help gratefully received!
LeeThe interMedia web agent is installed in the
OAS home and you can see the intermedia application and cartridge in the OAS admin page?
Have you checked the OAS wrb.log file? That is where errors should be displayed. If it is a web agent problem, check <windows_dir>wsclstch.err or log files in <OAS_HOME>/ord/web/logs.
What do they say about starting the agent?
Test the agent with http://host:port/intermedia/~test

Unable to install mapviewer demo's
I have installed the mvqs10_1_2_0_2 quickstart version of mapviewer from technet and am trying to install the demo's. The import fails due to a lack of the mdsys schema. We have an enterprise edition license of the database server but not the extra spatial option. From what I read we should be able to use the Locator resources for free.
What appears to be happening is we do not have the required objects for Locator in the database (e.g. mdsys schema).
We have updated to 10.1.0.4 database using the migration tool to migrate from an 8.1.7 database. It appears that using the migration tool rather than creating a new 10G database seems to have missed adding the required objects for Locator.
How can I install the resources needed for locator? Using dbca I can install spatial but we have not licensed spatial. Is there a way to just install Locator? -quinnHi,
Locator is free, but it is part of the interMedia option.
You should check your install to see if interMedia is installed or not.
If not, you can use DBCA to install interMedia.
