Re-installing MPEG 2 Playback for QT following drive failure

I just lost my hard drive and all the attendant software downloads. I've gone back and found the key for QT pro, but the M-PEG 2 playback purchase order did not have a key. So, can I get it back with the receipt without having to pay again?

can I get it back with the receipt without having to pay again?
Only way to find out would be a call to Apple. Did you not have a backup?

I have ordered a 800 firewire to 800 firewire cable and am hoping to use the target mode option to copy files from the MBP.
    Is this possible?
    Hope so!
Any advice and or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,

    Thanks Ogelthorpe.
Just bought an enclosure to try that also.
Hoping the MBP isn't really dead but just feigning death
    Fingers crossed.

  • How do I install Win 8 on Satellite C850 following HDD failure?

I have a PC repair business, and a customer has brought me a Satellite C850-1KN laptop which has had a catastrophic hard drive failure (just clicking sound coming from the drive.)
I replaced the hard drive and tried booting from a Windows 8 DVD, by changing the boot order in the bios, however, it still gives a "no bootable device" error message.
I see no way of turning off UEFI boot, it is grayed out in the bios setup.
How can i reinstall Windows on this laptop?

First of all you should know that the setting (CSM/UEFI mode) needs to be changed only if you want to install non-UEFI capable system (Win 7 and older).
Win 8 and Win 8.1 are UEFI capable systems and you should be able to use the UEFI mode option.
How about the secure boot option?
Did you find it and did you try to disable this option?

Hi, can any one help with the above

    Hi Badger49,
Open control panel, double click on color management.
Check the box that reads "Use my settings for this device".
Click on Add and choose the profile "sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and make it the default profile.
Also if you have a secondary monitor unplug it.
Try to re launch Lightroom and check if the issue persists.
Please reply if you need further help.

  • Data backup for impending hard drive failure

I know there's a post out there that already answered this question, but I cannot for the life of me find it again. So please, forgive the repeat post.
My hard drive is all but dead (one month out of warranty, naturally), and a replacement is on its way. Fortunately, most of my data are backed up, but none of my system files are.
I predict that I will be able to run my PB for minutes at most, so I need to be very choosy as to which remaining files I copy. What are the most important folders that I should try to retrieve before my hard drive breathes its last?
    I'm already planning on /library/mail and /library/keychains
    Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any advice -

  • Help with MPEG-2 Playback Component

    I have Lion, system 10.7.2.
I'm trying to import my VOB files into MPEG Streamclip, but it says I need to install MPEG 2 Playback Component.  However, on Lion, it is built in and supposedly unnecessary to buy.
    What to do?

According to the MPEG Streamclip website, you still need it.
    Here is what they say...
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • I have Windows 8.1 and just bought the quicktime mpeg-2 playback component for windows and it won't install. I currently have Quicktime Pro.

I need to run Quicktime Pro and playback DVD with mpeg-2 content for school. I just downloaded Quicktime Pro, and purchased the quicktime mpeg-2 playback component for Windows, but I can't download it at all. Is this because my PC is running Windows 8.1?
If so, is there anything I can do?

    What do I do?
You actually have several options. However, since you specifically want to use it it with MPEG Streamclip, the easiest approach would be to download the MPEG Streamclip "Beta" package for the Mac which includes a utility app that will help install the QT MPEG-2 Playback component on Lion and later operating systems. Instructions and background info can be found HERE under the "Lion/Mountain Lion and MPEG-2 Playback Component" tab.

  • CANNOT download QT-mpeg-2-playback component for mac

CANNOT download QT-mpeg-2-playback component for mac because OS X is 10.9.2
I need it to view movies with Streamclip - what do I do?
Would like to use imovie 10 to edit but cannot

Many folks using Mavericks have bought the playback component from Apple so don't know why you are unable. You don't install it just follow the instructions on Squared5 site. Are you saying that the download will not commence? Did you try this link http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x

  • How do I download and install MPEG-2 TS Codec for PE7.0 ?

    Please help!
I recently bought a Hauppauge HD PVR 2 gaming edition and it captures video in the MPEG-2 TS format however I can't import these files into Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0 because I get the error message that the proper Codecs aren't installed.
I've done a google search in an attempt to figure it out and I downloaded something called G-Spot because another forum said it was the solution but I have no idea what it does or how it works so its basically useless to me. I've spent the past 2 hours trying to find a solution and I keep coming up with nothing.
I have very little knowledge about codecs and stuff like that so I need some expert step by step instructions on how to get these MPEG-2 TS files working in my PE7 program!
I appreciate any and all help, thanks in advance!

The gspot utility is an excellent utility for sorting out the type of issue that you present. There should not be any problem downloading, installing it, and using it.
    Did you download from:
    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
Did you have any problems installing it. It should be straight forward.
If you have gotten its desktop icon, then double click that icon to get the following dialog. (If you get an intermediate dialog for "Run", click "Run". Of immediate importance is what is in the fields for Video Codec, Name, and Status and Audio Codec, Name, and Status. On some occasions gspot has been know to give an incomplete readout. Let us see if it will give us a full readout in your case.
For overall video properties, then the Media Info (tree view) video properties readout can be very valuable.
    http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
Although codec is mentioned in your error message, the MediaInfo may give a broader insight into what is going on with your choice for capture format, including Video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, aspect ratio, file extension, duration, interlaced or progressive, etc.
We will be watching for your follow up. The answers will be in your details.
    Thanks.

  • QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X

    Hello my friends
I would like to know if I can install my "QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X" in Leopard ?
I bought this component when I was in Tiger and I wouldn't make any mistake in installing it within Leopard which is working like a charm.
    Thanks

    Hello Smokerz
I've checked within my Apple Store Acount and the download link is still pointing to the same version as the one I bought... Maybe I shall wait until a new version is available.
    Thank you

  • HT1926 I keep getting the following message after attempting to download and install the latest update for iTunes: missing MSVCR80.dll.  error 7 (windows error 126)

I keep getting the following message after attempting to download and install the latest update for iTunes: missing MSVCR80.dll.  error 7 (windows error 126). Anyone else having this issue? How do I get iTunes back in working order?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

You should be able to install Mac OS X 10.7 or later on your 2011 MacBook Pro without issue, if it came with 10.6.3 as your signature suggests.  Mind you, any 2011 MacBook Pro must use the original 10.6 installer disc labelled MacBook Pro if it desires to have 10.6 installed on it.   The retail installer disc will not work on that model, nor will one from another age MacBook Pro, or other model labelled installer.  Also
10.7 came both on USB Flash drive and Mac App Store installer versions.   Both required either 10.6.6 minimum be pre-installed, or no Mac OS X operating system on the drive or partition it was to be installed on.
10.7.1 through 10.7.5 combo could be installed only once 10.7 had been installed.  A combo update is available for installing on top of any version of 10.7.  Otherwise only the preceding version could be updated to the next.
10.8 came only on Mac App Store installer.  It is available only to 10.6.8 and later users.
10.8.1 to 10.8.5 combo could be installed only once 10.8 had been installed.  A combo update is available for installing on top of any version of 10.8.  Otherwise only the preceding version could be updated to the next.
10.9 came only on Mac App Store installer. It is available only to 10.6.8 and later users.
Both 10.9 and 10.9.1 had a serious security vulnerability, which only 10.9.2 addressed.
10.9.2 combo could be installed only once 10.9 had been installed.
For all three Mac App Store releases, the partition to be installed on had to be GUID partition formatted according to Apple Disk Utility.

  • MPEG-2 Playback Component v6 no longer available for download

Hello, I purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component in June 2006. Due to a hard drive failure in my MacBook I returned to the store to redownload but my entire order history has been removed.
I just spent 30 mins on the phone to Robert in aftersales in the US and after discussion with his manager I have been told that Apple no longer host the version 6 component and that I should do an internet search to download the file as Apple no longer host this version.
Does anyone know where this may be hosted? Apple refused to suggest any sites.
This is strangely in conflict with this note:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26574?viewlocale=en_US
+The Apple Store keeps track of your purchase(s) *and you can always download the file again if something goes wrong* by clicking "Your Account" in the store menu bar. After entering your Apple ID and password, click "Software Download Purchases."+
But just in case anyone has any qualms about downloading this component from a non-Apple source, I have just had verbal confirmation this is the only way to retrieve this purchase, short of repurchasing which I am not prepared to do.
    Cheers
    George

Hello, I purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component in June 2006.
Be advised that there are two versions of the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component that work under QT 6. You will need to specify which version of QT 6 you are using and/or whether or not the computer is an Intel based model.

Luckily, there are DOZENS of video/media players and extensions avaliable for the Mac. Many of them are FREE, some of the better FREE ones are...
    PERIAN (quicktime extension)
    http://perian.org/
    QUICKTIME 7.6.6
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923
    VLC media player
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
    NICEPLAYER

And if none of those work, there is a possibility that those video files may be corrupted.

  • Mpeg 2 conversion for FCPX

I trust this question is still germane in this discussion group:
I'm following the advice of some of you to get MPEG streamclip to faciltating ingest into FCPX. However it says I have to buy a component. After going to the Apple website suggested (see screen shot), I'm unclear about WHICH component to buy. Help?

    You need this one.

Be sure to follow the instructions in the MPEG Streamclip website for how to install it in Mountain Lion. You must get the Beta version of MPEG Streamclip and use the installer for the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component that comes in the MPEG Streamclip DMG.
