Re-installing OS software & wiping drive clean

I would like to wipe my dual usb iBook clean - loose all apps, files, etc. and start from scratch, clean.
I have a Tiger CD and want to know how I go about doing this. Anyone out there with instructions as to how I would do that?
Thanks in advance.

You'll need a full retail version of Tiger to install on your older iBook, not a disc that was included with another model Mac. You should hopefully have at least 512 Meg of RAM, though you might get by on less.
Is your Tiger on DVD or CD?
If on DVD, does your optical drive read DVDs? If not, you'll have to get Apple to exchange it for a set of CDs.
Assuming you have the right media and the full retail version of Tiger and a drive that can read the media, insert the media and then restart the iBook. Hold down the C key during restart to boot from the media. Then choose an "Erase and Install".
Keep in mind that a full retail version of Tiger will not include iLife software, which is sold separately.

  • Re-install iLife11 from USB software reinstall drive

I recently purchased a late 2010 MBA from an Apple reseller. The hard drive was wiped clean and a version of OSx 10.8.1 was installed. The software for iLife was not installed and I was hoping to use iCloud which I believe requires iPhoto. I purchased from the app store iPhoto which successfully installed. I now find out that I have an earlier version of iLife11 on a USB software reinstall drive that was in the box, that I was not aware of. Will I be able to install the rest of iLife without affecting the current install? As this is my first experience with Mac I was unaware that the reinstall was the latest version of OS, why they did not use the original software reinstall drive I do not know? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Your USB drive which was included with the MacBook Air has already got iLife '11, so you didn't have to purchase iPhoto at the App Store. Apart from that, you can install the rest of iLife apps from your USB drive without any problem. Just make sure you make a custom install and you unmark iPhoto, so all iLife applications except iPhoto will be installed.
After installing those applications, open  > Software Update to update them to the latest version

  • How to properly clean install: erase, partition hard drive, and install tiger then SL

    Hello,
I am a noob at this, so if responders would be kind enough to be detailed / specific with any instructions it would be most helpful! I own a dinosaur apparently (even though I don't think so): the white (not unibody) Intel macbook2,1 (late 2006) 1.83 GHz with currently 1GB of RAM, but I have 2x2GB RAM sitting next to me ready for install. However, first I would like to do a clean uninstall of my computer (running OS X 10.6.8 SL). I also would like to properly partition my hard drive while I'm at it.
About 6 months ago I had serious crashing issues, along with kernel panics, hangs, applications randomly appearing & disappearing, system settings and options doing the same, fans running high (probably due to the low RAM available), and basically overall screwiness. So, after trying pretty much every option I could find on this community...and many others... (e.g. clean cache, clean old logs, already did a clean uninstall and install of SL, and much much more) I have reached my wits end. I would say that to date I've wasted a good solid 2 months with this.
The clean install worked for MAYBE a month or so, but then it started acting up again with the fans (even without high pages in/out, CPU or memory usage) and excessive heat, along with the apps freezing and quitting (mind you it would be only two things open such as 1 word document and then firefox-- with flash disabeled). SOOOOOO long story short, I have purchased new RAM and I would like to try this once again, but to ensure I don't screw it up this time I would like some directions as to how to do the uninstall, partition, then reinstall. (currently to date I ensured all updates are completed---even though they are no longer released for SL, and I just did a full backup).
Also, I need to first install Tiger (my original OS) as when I went to do a hardware test the other day this was not an option (and upon further research it is due to me not using Tiger as a first install and then using my mac box set for SL). I didn't use my original OS first because....one issue encountered when I had tried to install Tiger was that my Disc 2 (the applications one) took around 1.5 hrs to complete, but when I reached the last step of glory where I expected it to say COMPLETE it instead said that there was some sort of issue with the disc..........of course).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1: If near a Apple Store or Authorized Repair, take it to then for a free evaluation, it might have other hardware problems now that it would be a waste of effort even continuing.
2: The RAM needs to be
    Maximum Memory
3.0 GB (Actual) 2.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
Basically what this means is you can put in a 2GB module and a 1GB module for 3GB total.
I wouldn't proceed with installing RAM just yet, not until you get a stable OS X version on the machine, you might have a hard drive needing to be replaced as well which you can do while inserting new RAM.
3: This User Tip can assist in installing 10.6 Snow Leopard, partition format etc.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Software Update fully immediately after setup.
There is no need to install Tiger, he 10.6 disk contains the full 10.6 version, you can either install the iLife from Tiger disks or use Pacifist from Charlesoft to extract them and place on your new install, then Software update to get them current.
4: If not successful then the drive also likely needs to be replaced, if so choose a 7,200 RPM SATA I  w/1.5Gb/s connection.
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
    Repeat #3
If your getting beeping noises or "you need to restart" issues, it's likely one or more of the RAM modules is bad. Have it exchanged or swapped.
I advise good quality RAM the first time, if you buy cheap stuff it's just going back.
Don't go any further than 10.6.8 with that old machine, the performance will be terrible.

I installed a new SSD drive in my computer and now Adobe Creative Suite Web Premium says I don't have a license. I have license. It was very expensive. I am disabled now, and I need this software working. Adobe Acrobat has been a primary tool for accommodating memory problems after a brain injury. (A car ran me down while I was out getting exercise.) I installed the SSD because I needed my management of PDF files to run faster. I called tech support for help when the software first stopped working, but they needed me to give them a number from my original disks. Because of my disability, I've been having someone come in to clean, and the shelves where I kept my software packages were cleared. I've been hunting for them ever since, but I can't look for them myself for very long at a time. Today I finally found them, but now I can't seem to contact tech support. What happened? I don't want to delete my old files because I need the setup to remain unchanged, because I don't do well with changes. I think all I should need is to have someone located the license file on drive E: and move it to wherever it is needed on the SSD drive, but I don't know what to look for.

Tech support is not normally available on weekends.  You should contact them as soon as the weekend passes and pick up where you left off with them.

  • Problem Installing HP Officejet J4580 Full Feature Software and Driver

    Hallo !
I recently installed a new 2T harddrive and performed a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my e-Machine Model ET-1331-g-05w. The clean install of Windows 7, installation of the e-Machine drivers, und 325+ Microsoft  Updates was successful. The System is running fine and protected by Kaspersky 2015 Internet Security. Please note this WAS NOT an OS upgrade from Vista to Win7 - just a clean-install of the original Win7 64-bit OS.
After creating an ISO and Full Backup(nothing else has been installed at this point) I wan't to re-install my HP Officejet J4580 All-in-one. I have the original CD but I know that it can only be used on an XP or Vista OS - so I went to the www3.hp.Offical  HP Drivers and Support downloaded the Product Installation Software for:
HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver
    File: OJJ4500_FULL_13.exe
    Released: 2014-09-03
    Version: 13.0.0
My printer wasn't connected via USB - the install ran for about 30 and when I asked to connect the USB cable the splash screen told me it was finishing the install but then it failed with a message unable to located J4580 Drivers. The install that place the Solution Center, HP Document Manager, and HP Photosmart ICON's on my Desktop - when I opened the Solution Center - it said that it couldn't communicate to the printer. The printer and USB cable work fine on my Vista Desktop, my Vista Business Notbook. and my IBM X40 running WP SP3.
    I've also tried running:
    1) HP Update Software Utility - hpsetup.exe
    2) Hp Print and Scan Doctor - HPPSdr.exe
    3) HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility - OJJ4500_Scrubber_13.exe
but the 2nd attempt to re-install failed too.
I then reloaded my clean ISO - and tried the Product Installation Software for the Basic Drivers
HP Officejet Basic Print and Scan Driver
    File: OJJ4500_Basic_13.exe
    Released: 2014-09-03
    Version: 13.0.0
The Basic Drivers worked fine -but I need the Full Driver. I double checked and the WIN 7 64-bit is shown as a supported OS for the Full Driver - any suggestions on how to proceed? I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile installing  XP virtual machine and installing the Full Drivers in VM. If I go that route - it creates other issues such as sync'n file from 64-bit to VM, then switching back & forth between VM to process other work,  and then the issue of having to scan in VM then sync the folder to 64-bit side.

    Hello @Tom_Ma,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with installing your HP Officejet J4580 All-in-One Printer on your Windows 7 computer. Thank you for including all of the troubleshooting steps you have already attempted and your Operating System details in your post. At this point I am going to run you through some additional troubleshooting steps to get this Officejet successfully installed with the Full Feature driver. Please follow the steps below.
    Step 1: Uninstall Drivers:
It is important that we have a nice clean slate to work with for troubleshooting. Therefore, I am going to have you uninstall the existing software on your computer.
    Click on your Start menu
    Select All Programs
    Select the HP folder
    Select your HP Officejet
    Select Uninstall
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the uninstall of your printer. Once the uninstall is complete, please proceed to the next step.
    Step 2: Clear Temp Files:
    Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start after you click on it, type %temp% and hit enter on your keyboard
When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
Select the 'delete' button on your keyboard. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item.
Close the Temp folder once it is emptied
Right click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin
Step 3: Unlock System Administrator Account:
There is the potential that there is something within your User Account that may be blocking the drivers from installing properly. Therefore, I am going to have you unlock the hidden System Administrator Account and install your device under there. Then, when you log back into your normal User Account the printer and all Full Feature software should be installed and functional for you. If all goes well, we we 'hide' the System Administrator Account once troubleshooting is complete.
Go to your Start menu and under the 'search programs and files' box type CMD
CMD will populate as a search option above, just right click on it and 'run as administrator'
Once CMD (Command Prompt) opens, type net user administrator /active:yes and hit enter
Next, close CMD and restart your computer
When your computer comes on log into the new account that should show. It will be called Administrator and will not have a password on it.
If your computer automatically logs into your account after restart than go to your start menu click the arrow beside 'shutdown' and choose 'switch user'. Now log into the Administrator account we just unlocked
Under the Administrator account download and install the drivers: HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver
Please follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation of your printer
Once the installation is complete, please test printing and scanning to confirm that everything is now working properly.
If everything installs fine, log out of this account and back into your normal User Account. All the Software and Drivers for your product should show installed now on your account.
Under your User Account please test printing and scanning again to confirm that everything is still working.
If everything works fine, you will want to Hide the Administrator account.
Step 4: Hide System Administrator Account:
Go to your Start menu and under the 'search programs and files' box type CMD
CMD will populate as a search option above, just right click on it and 'run as administrator'
Once CMD (Command Prompt) opens, type net user administrator /active:no and hit enter
Next, close CMD and restart your computer
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Do I need to deauthorize a computer if I have wiped the hard drive clean before I sell it?

I am going to sell my computer. I forgot to deauthorize it in itunes. I have already wiped my hard drive clean. Do I need to still deauthorize this computer and how can it be done?

Once the drive has been wiped, the only way to deauthorize is to Deauthorize All from any computer with iTunes installed.
If the intent was to deauthorize the comptuer, that needed to be done prior to wiping the computer.

Try to delete all content (format by clean install), then you can install Mavericks, however I think its better to add mavericks into External fladh drive (USB)

  • Partitioning the boot drive without wiping it clean

    Hey all,
I was wondering if it is possible to partition the boot drive (in my case, the only drive - running a mid-2012 MBP) without wiping it clean during the process. Basically, I need a small (50/500GB) partition that I can install Fedora on so I can use my Linux dev tools while away from home.
I've seen information that says a couple things, which are either conflicting or very ambiguous as to the results.
    a) I've read that Fedora can be installed via Bootcamp through use of Bootcamp's partitioning, but Bootcamp Assistant won't allow me to make a partition without a Win7 install disk. Is this a component that was removed through a version?
    b) I've seen answers on here that state that partition w/o wipe works if the new partition is created using the default filestructs (Mac OS X Extended or w/e), but doesn't go into much detail after that. Are we talking Disk Utility here?
If b) is true, then can someone confirm that? This is a computer I use for work, so I'd rather not end up with a complete brick for the next few days.

    @blasthash:
It's interesting to see VikingOSX' suggestion, because I'm in the process of adding a LM OS to my MBPro, so I'm going to check out VB . . . .  I've done a dual boot set up before using rEFIt as boot manager, which now apparently doesn't work with Mtn Lion . . . it's now rEFInd . . . so having to figure that one out.  Viking's suggestion might indeed be safer, the problem with that is then the Linux system is "virtual" rather than the boot system . . . which uses memory.  In my case I only have 4GB on my MBPro.
It's very easy to partition the HD using DU . . . select the HD in the left side DU window, click the >partitions tab and select the number of partitions you want, and >click apply . . . viola . . . HD is partitioned . . . .  The original boot system remains intact, and you can install or do what you will with the other partitions--the size of them is by dragging the "borders" to the size you want.
That's the easy part--of course you should do a cloned back up before you do anything--the Linux install part you could look at rEFInd's support page or search "rodbooks" and find his dual boot instructions.  I did that with my dual boot set up -- using Bootcamp -- which went OK until I wanted to get a third partition, but Bootcamp had locked the HD . . . so I had to wipe the HD to get my now dual boot 10.6.8 & 10.8.5? system set up with a third partition set as "Freespace" . . . ready for a Linux OS install . . . using DU this time.
So, VikingOSX's advice is probably the easiest, possibly the safest . . . but it depends on using a lot of memory . . . it's like "Classic" . . . "you're in 10, but you're in 9" . . . as an old hippie guy said to me when I got my first G4 . . . .  You'd be running Fedora within OSX and there ****might**** be a speed differential.  Booted up as the root system Linux is pretty fast . . . gltichy, but fast.  It takes a bit of work to get the boot manager rEFInd set up, but once that's done the installation into "Largest freespace" is usually pretty easy, I 've done a lot of Linux installs now and I mostly use the "automatic" option and let the system set it up.  Point being, the other way, the dual boot "dark side" way is a tad more complicated, but more fun.
It just depends on whether you just need to do a "few things every now and again in Linux" . . . or whether you want to be able to run the full capacity of your machine using Linux . . . .  Up to you . . . OSX probably still remains the best OS, but because Linux isn't perfect, it's "interesting" . . . to DIYers.

  • Software to wipe my hard drive clean

    hello
I am a novice and would like to wipe my windows xp hard drive clean and reinstall windows xp over again.  I have attempted to do some homework / research and this method appears to be the  is the easiest for
    me to work with.
I downloaded an application called Derik's Boot and Nuke and burned it on to four cd's  through a  software called ISO Buster.   When burning one cd I saw a
total of four different methods of burning Derik's Boot and Nuke using  ISO Burner. So I burned all four methods on four different  cd's.   When I  wipe  out my hard drive I need to load just
one of the four discs in my computer and I am not certain which one to use.  These are the four types of  discs  I have burned.
    1.  ISO Buster DBAN ( Short for Derik's Boot and Nuke ) Extracted Video Files
    2.  ISO Buster DBAN Extracted User Data ( tao, iso, img, way)
    3.  Extracted Raw but Convert to User Data ( tao, iso way)
    4.  Extracted Raw Data 2352 By Test block bin iso
Anyone with any knowledge please  explain which one to  use.    Thank you.

    hello
Thank you for your reply.  Perhaps I  forgot  some important  information.  My computer is infected with Malware  & Adware.  I have tried to run virus removal tools.
When I do I get error messages when I go to install them.  At present I do not have software  to reinstall yet.  I am  a novice and trying to teach myself as I go along.  Also trying to avoid calling  tech support.  If you
can further help this I would appreciate.   Thank you.

  • How do I install purchased software without a disk drive?

We recently bought Elements 12 + Premiere Elements 12 with the intention of buying a new computer. But now our new iMac doesn't have a disk drive. How do I install the software?
On the site I only see options for trial versions or to buy the products but I already have a brand new product with serial number.
    Thanks

Install the trial versions. They are identical to the retail versions. When prompted, enter the serial numbers from your retail version.

  • Erased Hard Drive for Clean Install of Leopard, Hard drive is gone!

I put in my Leopard Install disk to do a clean install of everything as I was going to give this iMac to someone. I erased the hard drive and then started the Leopard install. It stopped half way through and that was that! Now the hard drive does not appear as my Macintosh HD anymore. When I open disc utility, it lists it as just a 150MB hard drive; no name, no volume. If I try to format it again, it says "resource busy". If I try to install Leopard, it just keeps looking for a drive to install it in. Bummer. Any ideas how I can get my hard drive to be recognized again? It is an iMac G5, 5 years old with no other problems before this. Thanks.

Try shutting down (powering off). Then start it up again using your Mac OS X installation disc, and run Disk Utility as you did before. This time, try going to the Partition tab (instead of using the Erase tab). Reset the +Volume Scheme+ to *1 Partition*, even if it already has only one partition. Click the Options button, and make sure it is set for *Apple Partition Map*. Name the volume +Macintosh HD+, set the Format to +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+, and Apply.
See if that works any better.
