Re-installing panther from a disc for another machine

Can anyone tell me (or refer me to a topic that can tell me) if I can reinstall panther on my clamshell using the discs that came with my mac mini. I bought the clamshell on ebay, and it didn't come with the panther discs (only the original os 9 discs) and I want to install the OS fresh. Thanks.

Some discs are machine specific. For instance, a laptop has a slightly different drivers installed, power management for the battery, etc, that the Mini discs may not put back.

  • I accidently deleted Safari, so have installed again from my disc. Since then it randomly crashes. Help neededplease

I accidently deleted Safari, and have had to install again from the disc. Since then it just crashes randomly. After reading other posts,  I have created another account to see if it still does it, but it still crashes. Any suggestions please?

Did you run Software update yet?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • HT1349 How do I go about installing software from a disc onto my ipad2? I have no external drive, but do have a PC with iTunes on it. Someone suggested I could load it into iTunes and then sync with the iPad, but this suggestion doesn't seem to work.

How do I go about installing software from a disc (a language programme) onto my ipad2? Someone told me if I downloaded it to iTunes on my PC I could then sync it to the iPad but hav not been able to do that.

Even if there was a convenient way, the software will not run on the pad.  Ios is a unique language, and only programs written for ios will run on the pad.   All of the programs are in the app store.  You might look there and see if the company that makes your sfotware also has an ios version, which would be in the store.

How to install Snow Leopard on Macbook Pro? keep getting msg- cannot install Internal HD is used for Time Machine- this was reset to external HD and still get msg?

At some point, your internal HD was selected for use as Time Machine backups, and a Backups.backupdb folder was created at the top level.   So OSX thinks you're trying to install it on the same drive as your backups.
Open your internal HD with the Finder (you won't find it via a Spotlight or Finder search) and delete that folder.

  • Install Lync Web App Plugin For Another User

I'm wondering if there is a way to install the plugin for the Lync Web App for another user. The reason why is that administrative permissions are required and our users are not allowed to have those permissions. I have the MSI but when I look at it, it
    says
"Cannot install [ProductName].Setting the AllUsers property is not allowed because [ProductName] is a per-user application."
Is there a way that I can install the MSI, maybe through the command line or another method, and specify another user so it installs to their profile?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    This is typically achieved by allowing exceptions in your software control strategy for the required executable;
    LWAPlugin.exe
    LWAVersionPlugin.exe
    AppSharingHookController.exe
    AppSharingHookController64.exe
This typically occurs in VDI deployments where users are not able to install software onremote server, so the above rule is added to the Software Restriction Policy (providing that's what you're using to control application installation).
I'm not familiar with any associated cmd line switches I'm afraid.
    Kind regards
    Ben

Are you on a PC or a Mac? All the settings and presets are stored as .xml files located in a folder as below:

  • Cannot ping windows 2008 r2 while it is possible for another machine in the same network

    Hi,
Recently I have set up a new server with windows 2008 r2 enterprise OS which is a domain member server.
At network layer I have two networks one with 192.168.1.0/22 and another with 10.0.0.0/24 network IDs.
My problem is that I cannot ping the newly installed server from a specific machine. Server's IP address is 192.168.1.56 and the specific machine's IP address is 10.0.0.12 and it is a windows XP machine. Of course I have to say that this problem belongs
only to this WinXP machine and all the layer 3 issues are tested and correct. This issue happens while at the same time I can ping domain controller which also is a windows 2008 r2 enterprise box and its IP address is 192.168.1.53. It turns more complicated
when I learned I can ping the winxp machine and connect to it from new server through remote desktop. Firewall also is not the obstacle because I turned it off completely.
Can anybody help me fix the problem?
    TIA

  • Install Aperture From App Store On Multiple Machines?

    Hi..
Can anyone help with this question?
I own a hard copy of Aperture 2 and I'm considering buying Aperture 3 from the App Store. I have a 17" MBP for portability plus another machine back at base.
If I buy the App whilst on my 17" MBP, it will be automatically installed. Is there then the opportunity to re-install it onto my other machine? If so, how?
I bought the Aperture 2 disk and obviously had the freedom to install it onto the field machine and the machine back at base, and that's the setup I need for my workflow.
I presume you can load App Store software you buy onto multiple machines, back it up or create a re-installable version... or is this not the case?
    Thanks for any guidance,
    Clown Guy

Please read the Mac App Store Terms and Conditions. You are providing incomplete information. The 2 computer limit is for commercial users only. For personal use you can install on every computer you own.
Here's the relevant paragraphs from the Terms and Conditions:
    i) You may download and use an application from the Mac App Store (“Mac App Store Product”) for personal, non-commercial use on any Apple-branded products running Mac OS X that you own or control (“Mac Product”).
ii) If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, you may download a Mac App Store Product for use either (a) by a single individual on each of the Mac Product(s) that you own or control, or (b) by multiple individuals on a single shared Mac Product that you own or control. For example, a single employee may use a Mac App Store Product on both the employee’s desktop Mac Product and laptop Mac Product, or multiple students may serially use the Product on a single Mac Product located at a resource center or library.
iii) Use may require sign-in with the Apple ID used to download the Mac App Store Product from the Mac App Store. Mac App Store Products can be updated through the Mac App Store only.

  • How do I copy a TM backup to an external HDD with an existing TM backup (for another machine)?

    Hi,
My question relates to the use of Time Machine for two different Macs ... I have two Macs: a MacBook Pro (ML) and an iMac (SL). I use Time Machine for both.
Unfortunately, the external HDD (A) drive I use for the backup of my MacBook Pro is on the way out. I am now in a situation where I need to copy this Time Machine backup to another external HDD (B) which I use for the backup of my iMac.
I have decided that I would like to use external HDD B for all future backups of both machines from now on. It is a 2Tb LaCie drive with one partition. Therefore, I would like to copy the Time Machine backup data from external HDD A to external HDD B. Since both TM files/directories have identical names, I am looking for some advice of how to do this without 'deactivating' any of the backups or corrupting them, or screwing with permissions.
In case this is known to be problemmatic, would it be 'better practice' to partition the external 2Tb HDD drive into two partitions, then just use one partition for each backup? Is there an advantage/disadvantage to partitioning the drive? Will this approach make it 'less confusing for Time Machine' and reduce potential problems?
    Any advice would be great!
    Thanks,
    Mark.

Don't bother trying to copy a TM backup file. Just connect the other good drive to your MBP and create a new full TM backup on that drive. I do suggest you create a separate partition on that good drive for each Mac you will be backing up to it.

  • Can't install ML. Disk used for time machine

When I choose my machintosh HD drive to install mountain lion says "This disk is used for time machine backups". HELP!!!

Although this may be too late for the OP, here's the answer: If you see a Backups.backupdb folder on your main harddrive, either remove it or rename it. That seems to be the only qualifier for calling a disk a Time Machine Backups disk as far as the installer is concerned.

  • Can't install - my disk is used for Time Machine backups

I only have one hard disk. And it has Time Machine turned on. Mountain Lion won't let me install on this disk, saying
"This disk is used for Time Machine backups"
I'm ASSUMING this means that I cannot install ML on a Time Machine disk.
    Is this right?
So, do I turn off Time Machine to get ML to install?

    I deleted Backups.backupdb.
Now, the ML installer says simply "OS X cannot be installed on <my drive>"
    What the ???

  • New Hard drive - won't install windows from recovery disc

I am having an issue with my Satellite L505D-S5965.  I replaced the hard drive (upgraded from 250 to 500GB) due to issues with the old one (which had been replaced once already) and am using the recovery disc I made before my other hard drive crashed.  When I boot the computer, it says it is loading Windows files, asks for country, etc., but then doesn't display an operating system to choose and asks me to choose drivers.  I can't restore it from a system image because I kept getting an error on the old drive when I tried to create one.  When I've checked, it says that Windows isn't installed on the computer.  I checked the BIOS and it is recognizing the new hard drive.  I have also tried booting it up from the DVD/CD using the set of disks I created after I got my new hard drive previously, but it doesn't seem to even recognize them and I can't get to the Toshiba Recovery Wizard. I would order the Toshiba Recovery Media, but with the issues I'm having, I'm not sure that is the fix.  I'd hate to be out another $30 on an old computer (since we also had to replace the mother board in the past few months) if I'm not sure that will cure the problem.

The usual problem is restoring to a drive with advanced-format technology. Nearly all the new drives use it. See this message from three years ago.
