Re installing preloaded software after a crash

I have had a second HD crash since buying this machine 2 1/2 yrs ago. I do have back ups to an external drive and have been able to restore all but one program (MediaImpression2 as part of Total Media Suite). I contacted ArcSoft who said it was a custom program for the HP preloads on laptops so they cannot help.
I do not have the extended HP warranty (have one through Tiger direct), so I cannot utilize HP support. Has anyone else experienced such a frustration? If so, how did you solve it? I have photos mid- edit that cannot be opened by any other program. I would appreciate any advice.

If no joy with that-you might try this from a third party site. I would do a manual System Restore point just to be on the safe side- sometimes you get junkware along with a free download.

If you created your original set of Recovery Discs, these will not only reinstall the original OS, but also all the original software bundled with your notebook.

Can I install Snow Leopard over Lion to install old software after hard drive crashed?

My hard drive crashed and I lost everything. I have a new hard drive, but when the repair shop installed my operating system, they installed Lion and I no longer have my prior updates. My computer had been updated a few times. I have a lot of software that only can be installed up to 10.7 such as Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, Office Mac 2011, etc. I was wondering if I installed Snow Leopard over Lion, would I lose Lion? Should I install Snow Leopard and then Lion again? I don't want to damage my like new computer and I don't want to have to go out and buy all new software. Is there a solution? Thanks in advance!

Sounds complicated! If I repartition the drive and install Snow Leopard onto the blank volume, will Lion still be there? Or, will the computer basically have two operating systems that I have to go back and forth from. Is this something a novice like myself can do?

From your registered products on your account, the disc package, some place where you wrote it down and kept it safe. If non of this applies and you didn't take care of your serial, then nobody can help you, not even support. They don't know, either, what you haven't told Adobe in teh past.

Re-install of iTunes after PC crash using additional Authorised User

The hard disk on my PC crashed which had XP x64 OS. The system was reformatted with XP Pro installed given previous issues with the other OS. When I re-installed iTunes and my backup music files, I am not permitted to authorise the PC saying that all 5 authorisations are used.
My family use the other 4 authorisations, but this computer had the 5th. Why after the re-install am I being requested for an additional authorisation. Can't it remember that this PC was previously authorised??

Hard drive crashes and new installations use up authorisations, crashes you can't do anything about but it's worth bearing in mind before you do reinstall your OS. However If you reached the limit of 5 authorisations, you have the option to de-authorise all computers once a year and start with a fresh set up for the computers that you've got:

Trouble re-installing lightroom 5 after Mac crashed

Help, I desperately need my Lightroom 5, but no matter how I try to re-install it - from link adobe sent or from disc - all I get is "An error occurred when attempting to change modules". This is the first thing you see after entering the serial numbers. It looks different and nothing works. I have talked to chat at least 3 times and they finally admitted they know nothing. Can't talk to anyone by phone. So much for support for Lightroom.

Why can't you talk to anyone on the phone?
There are a number of possible causes for this. Not sure what happened with the Mac crash, but my first guess is that user permissions are currently messed up as a result. Try creating a new user account and see if you can launch Lightroom there.

Installed new software, after restart black screen with Darwin/BSD promt

I have been struggling with thisissue. I installed some new software, a webcam driver called ilook 1321. I restarted my computer but forgot to take the disc out!
Now when I start my ibook G4 i get the black screen with Darwin/BSD (localhost) (console) and login. It accepts my usual login and password, then tells me my last login details and leaves me with localhost: Clarekristensen$.
I have done the disk utility repair, no problems, I also did the fcsk commands, but still goes back to the Darwin command.
I tried to do the Repair disk permissions but this failed with the message "no valid packages". On disc check I saw I had 25.6 gb of space left.
I am now at a complete loss what to do next. I have not backed up for a while so really don't want to re-install Mac OS X and wipe my disk.

Here's the steps I'd take...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

If it can't repair for any reason, stop here and report back.
Appears to be time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...

Following a computer crash, I lost PSE 10. Some elements of the old version have remained on my computer. I have downloaded PSE 10 but when trying to install it, the installer will only try to uninstall the old copy. How can I convince it that there is no other copy?

Elements 2.0 is an old version. The message may be due to the fact that your new HD is much bigger than your older one, and not due to the classical reasons:

dumb question but I'm mid project and need OSX 10.5 to run a necessary plug in . I don't want to reinstall FCS2 as I only have FCS1 discs here. I don't have Time Machine either. Can I just install 10.5 without reinstalling software? Thanks

No, if you do an Archive and Install of Leopard, it will put your Tiger system into a Previous System folder, load Leopard & the new Apple Leopard apps, then migrate everything it can from the Previous System folder.
Some apps and/or some user data might not migrate, for one reason or another, but they'll remain in Previous System.
I can't tell you about FCS, but as long as it's compatible with Leopard, it should come over fine.
Of course, first backup your entire system, "just in case".
Then be sure to do an Archive and Install, not an Erase and Install.

I just downloadeed the new sofware update.
After installation I tunes wasn't abble to connect with my touch anymore. As I wantet to sett back the settings, its not able reset the ipod and always gets back to the page when asking for setting back the ipod for further use. Afer each set back... I cannot even start it or anything else

I have always loved using my "Powerbook," however, with the age of Universal Software that will be accomodating the Intel processors will users of the Powerbook series no longer be able to download the new software?

Well the intel transition only really happened this year so they aren't gonna be dropping PPC support anytime soon I bet. I have had my PB G4 for Two years now and it's still fast enough for everything I come across, even games. Call of Duty 2 runs fine on my 1.5GHz G4. I plan on keeping my PB for at least another 2 > 3 years. By then the intels might "Actually" be worth the cost. (These Powerbooks aren't that cheap )

When the installer is downloaded from the App Store, it is a good idea to make a copy of it with a different name and in another location from the Applications folder, as the original disappears after running.
The installation will leave the user account intact, with your apps and files. However, not all apps will be updated for Yosemite and to save future problems it is advisable to go to the developers' websites and get the latest version, before you make the move.
I see from Roaring Apps, that Wolfram Mathematica may not yet be ready for Yosemite.

How to install Ciscom Connect after setting up the devise

I have set up my router E1200 v2 with the disc after the direction through live chat as I received error code. Now my router works well but I don't have Ciscom Connect software in my program. I downloaded it from the site and saved it in my folder as an application. Now, how I can install it? As it is 'set up software', when I make it run, it tries to set up but the router has already been set up so it can't complete the setting-up then no software is saved as a program nor no 'ciscom' file is created.
The software I downloaded was not the right one?
I can enter Ciscom Connect page as I know the address for directly connection but still I would like to have one as a program which allow me to go to the CC easily.
Let me know how to install CC software after setting up...
