Re-instantiate Primary Database with 10g Release 1

How do you re-instiate the primary database with 10g Release 1. I am investigating how the failover process works and have successfully failed over to a standby.
I now want to re-instantiate the Primary... I know in Release 2 there is a DGMGRL command to re-instantiate... but there is no such command in Release 1 as far as I can see.

See 10.3 Using Flashback Database After a Failover - http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/server.101/b10823/scenarios.htm#1017193 but it requires that you had flashback database enabled BEFORE you failed over. Also, there are a couple of Alerts out there for early versions of 10.1 and this procedure in the event you did a failover where there was data loss. See Note 388516.1 ALERT: Flashing Back a Primary Database into a Physical Standby May Fail and Note 376340.1 ALERT: Reinstating old primary database as a logical standby database after a Data Guard "No Data Loss" Failover for more information.
The Broker did not have that capability in 10.1 so you have to use the manual method. You will have to remove the failed primary from your Broker configuration first, reinstate it and then add it back in.
If you did not have flashback database enabled on the Primary before you did the fail over then you must rebuild the old primary as a new standby with a complete new backup from the new primary.

Logical Standby Database with 10g+ASM on both sides??

Hi out there,
is there a known way to establish a logical standby database on 10g, if both
sides are running with an ASM setup?
I've tried to create one out of a physical standby database (which is set up
and running w/o any problems), like a book suggested me to do.
The procedure was:
1. switch on supplemental logging
2. prepare initiation parameters (for archive logging etc.) on both sides for
logical stb.
3. shut down the phyiscal standby
4. alter database create logical standby controlfile as '<path>'; on the
primary, transfer the controlfile to the standby db. Here I had to use RMAN
to copy the controlfile into the ASM System, and modify the initfile/spfile
in order to use the controlfile. No problem so far.
5. mount the standby database, alter database recover managed standby database
disconnect; -> At this point, the alert log complained about non-available
datafiles.
6. alter database activate standby database; --> fails ("needs recovery") due
to last point.
The trouble is, the controlfile created at point 4 cointains wrong paths to
the datafiles. Since I can not have the same disk group name on the standby
system, and since ASM renames the stored datafiles by its own, the complaints
of point 5 are comprehensible, but nevertheless annoying.
I tried to backup a controlfile to trace and change the paths, but at after
mounting the standby with this controlfile and proceeding at point 5, the
system says "<path> is not a standby controlfile"
Is there a different way of creating a "Logical Standby Database with 10g+ASM
on both sides"? Metalink said nothing about LogStby and ASM.

I'm not sure if this will work but try:
1. create trace control file (you did it)
2. change paths (you did it)
3. recrate control file (you did it)
... there was error occured during mount before
so mount database (not as standby)
4. create standby control file (from recreated control file)
5. shutdown instance, replace control file with new standby control file or replace the control filename in parameter file.
6. mount as standby
What happend?
Update: Tested on my side and it has worked fine... How about you?

How do we handle multiple databases with 10g Enterprise Console?
We are running Oracle 10.1.0.2.0 on Windows 2003 server. I have one database setup but I need to install more databases and am having difficulty accessing and managing the second database. thanks for your input.

Using Imp utility to Import a database on 10g release 2

I am using the Imp Utility on 10g release 2 to import from a 10g release 1 database. I have created a new tablesapce and need the dmp to be imported to the new tablespace. But it goes and imports to the system tablespace. The command i use is
imp <User name>/<password> file=<file_name> log =<log name> full=Yes
the user name and password i use is the username and password i gave in the installation for system tables. When i specify the tablespace imp <User name>/<password>@<tablespace> it comes with "ORACLE error 12154 encountered".
Do i need to create a new user to get the import done. How do i create it?

The contents of the dump will be imported to the tablespace under which you run the import.
If your dump from Oracle 10G R1 is a complete database dump and you need to import the data of a specific user in the dump, then you can use fromuser= touser= options in the import command.
If your Oracle 10GR2 database is blank, then you need to create the user in which you can import the data. You can use a command like this.
CREATE USER sidney
IDENTIFIED BY out_standing1
DEFAULT TABLESPACE example
QUOTA 10M ON example
TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
Note: sidnye, out_standing1, example, temp are all arbitrary names. You need to match these with your environment.

Migrating Repository of 8.1.6 database to 10g Release 1 (10.1)

Now we want to upgrade this to Oracle database 10g Release 1(10.1) and Oracle Developer Suite 10g Rel2...Also want to update our headstart templates..Please can you provide me stepwise guidelines ..how to apply these things....

From the Upgrade Path section, you have need 8.1.7.4 to go directly to 10.2.
Then, check the choice you have to upgrade : manually, DBUA or exp/imp.

when export ing Oracle9i Database with Oracle10g EXP utility, it gives following error.
EXP-00056: ORACLE error 6550 encountered

You can't use 10g exp against 9i database.

OEM 10g... with 10g Release 2

Has anyone tried 10g Release2??
When i try to access OEM(Database Control), it gives me an error like:
java.lang.Exception: Exception in sending Request :: null
and the database instance's status is "pending".
I've stacked for 2 days.
Does anyone have the same problem or any idea?
(I already tried recreating Management Repository which didnt work...)

Topic 3) No, this is not correct, because dbconsole needs also an agent. This agent is an integrated part of dbconsole, it is started when dbconsole is started. In Grid Control the agent is a separate process, it has even its own ORACLE_HOME. That's the output I see on one of my machines:

What could be wrong, if 'Agent is not running' is returned?
1) It's simply true for whatever reason (but there should be error messages)
2) ORACLE_HOME setting is wrong (PATH variable doesn't start with ORACLE_HOME\bin, where emctl is located). If this is the case, the agent is running, only the output is wrong.
You should examine, if there are errors in the log files. On my machine these are located in
C:\oracle\server\127.0.0.1_ORACLE\sysman\log .
You have to replace C:\oracle\server\127.0.0.1 with your own values.

FRM-40112 error with 10g Release 2 Forms

How do I get around the FRM-40112 error (attempted go-item to non-enabled item) in 10g? I want to present a column but not have the user modify it. This is an update/insert form. I can make it not keyboard navigable but the user can use the mouse to get to it and change it if it is enabled. I want to fix this instead of using the FORMS_REJECT_GO_DISABLED_ITEM environment parameter.

Yeah, the UPDATE_ALLOWED=FALSE works, but there is one column that is changed programmatically by the form and shown to the user. I need it not ENABLED but UPDATE_ALLOWED = TRUE. I may have to go with FORMS_REJECT_GO_DISABLED_ITEM=FALSE and revisit in the next release. It looks to me like this a catch-22.

Best Java 1.06 version to use with 10g release 3 of Forms.

Were migrating to lthe atest version of Forms 10.1.2.3. As a result, were updating our java runtime from 1.05_12 to 1.06.
The question is what version of java 1.06 have users found most stability? Trying 1.06_7 so far have been positive (i.e don't lose forms cursor ).
At the very least, we'll probably try 1.06_7 but has anyone had success ( or problems ) running newer versions. Version 12 for 1.06 just came out and an Oracle enginner told me that he thought version 12 appeared to fix a bunch of issues though himself or Oracle have actually not certified?

Configuring custom process with 10g Release 2 (10.1.2)

A Metalink note kindly informed me that I could use OPMN to start and stop Interconnect hub and adapter processes. The hyperlink sent me to the OPMN documentation and that's where the fun started!
So far I have only tried to add the repository as an ias-component and this is how the section of the opmn.xml file looks.

Once I added the working-dir attribute to the process-type tag, things began to fall into place. working-dir is set to the directory location of the repository start script and I repeated the same for the crmapps adapter. My biggest clue came when I added the crmapps adapter to the opmn.xml and when I tried to start it, the log file indicated that it couldn't find the adapter.ini file. The rest came naturally after that breakthrough.
It needs a bit of rejigging but so far, results are good.

Error Creating Database on Oracle 10g Release 2

I'm having a problem creating a second database on 10g release 2 on Windows server 2003.
I have created an initialization parameter file on %Oracle_Home%\database\initDB2.ora
However, whenever I try to run sql command to create a database with the same name as the db_name parameter in the initialization parameter, it gives an error database name 'DB2' does nto matchthe parameter db_name = dbase
dbase is the first database that was created automatically when I installed Oracle.
Any solutions? Why is the server not using the parameter file I have created? Why does it seem to use the initialization parameter file that belongs to the first database?

'startup nomount' with 'pfile=...initDB2.ora' clause? In this case Oracle chooses a server parameter file (spfile) by default and I still assume ORACLE_SID is set to your first database. So automatically spfile from the first database is used. You should try:
set ORACLE_SID=DB2
(now in sqlplus) startup nomount pfile=%ORACLE_HOME$\database\initDB2.ora

Create your forms working directory.
add that path to default.env
and also edit parameter in formsweb.cfg to point to you main form.
This way by default when you go to http://ABUKARAKI.AHU.EDU.LOCAL:8889/forms90/f90servlet it will open your main form.
From main form you can open your other forms.
