I bought the OEM (VARPak, as Creative calls it) version of the X-Fi Music (since it's no longer available as a Retail product, which is significant as far as drivers go). The drivers that came with the card work (i.e., the Digital Out setting problem is not manifest). When I tried upgrading to the latest (as of a couple months ago) drivers from Creative, the Digital Out problem did occur, geneg's fix corrected that, but there were other problems manifest (IIRC, it would not properly do S/P-DIF pass-thru; sorry, that's the only way I use this card; I've never let it decode, since my Kenwood does a fine job and runs my speakers; that said, the Internal Decoder may have been broken, as well).
I reverted to the original drivers, then tried the update that's available from Windows Update. That broke the Digital Out and also completely removed the S/P-DIF control in the applet, so that was worse.
I initiated a ticket with Creative and was told that the drivers on their web site only support Retail versions of their products. Having bought the VARPak (i.e., OEM) version, I was SOL. So I reverted to the drivers that came with the card and it works fine. Since this is a generic OEM (can't tell if it's meant for Dell, HP, etc.), there is no possibility of upgrading, but since it's fully functional, who cares.
So, a simple word of warning to Creative customers:
If you want to use their drivers, you gotta buy Retail.
Also, as the old axiom goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it ;-)

    Just to clarify, there is no such thing as a iPhone 4G.  The previous model was the iPhone 4, and the new one is the iPhone 4S.  Apple is being careful not to use the term 4G due to the misuse of the term.  Carriers are using the term regularly and Apple may have to start using the term to let consumers know that the new phone is as fast or faster than the phones already on the market using "4G or LTE".  The IPhone 4S is capable of download speeds up to 14.4 Mbps, which is what the carriers are calling "4G LTE", but in actuality 4G is download speeds of 100 Mbps which isn't availible at this time.  Oh, to answer your question, diesel is correct, the phones are identical except for color.

    I could not agree more! My MBP 2007 Intel Core Duo has had its logic board replaced not to long ago (DVI port died). The original hard drive is running great and I am running Snow Leopard wonderfully.
    I was amped during the keynote and am really looking forward to Lion. I know the community is working hard to uncover a workaround because at present time, the solution (by new!) is not a worthy one. Especially when there is literally, nothing wrong with my existing machine.
    Apple, please ensure Lion will be available for Intel Core Duo machines, we are not that old! The closed architecture approach produces quality hardware. 4 years is a toddler perhaps teenager when it comes to apple hardware and technology. I predict I have at least 3-4 more years left in my current MBP 2007 machine.

  • I have logic express. is this the same?

    I've currently got Logic Express 9 (9.1.7).
    I purchased this a while ago.
    Now all of a sudden i see on the Mac App Store, they have Logic Pro 9 (9.1.7).  Is this the same program?
    My icon for the app is Gold, but on the Mac App Store, it's silver. Mine is called Express, the mac app store is called Pro.
    My big concern is that on the Mac App Store, it gives me the option to buy Logic Pro 9, it doesn't say I already own the program. This is what makes me think that it's a different program. And if they're dropping Logic Express, and going with Logic Pro, am I screwed out of a program? Am I going to have to shell out 200 bucks to have Logic Pro, instead of Logic Express, just so I can get updates?

    Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
    You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.

    It the same phone but you don't have to have data on it if you don't want since they are older phones.  We had these phones without data as I didn't think they would be good for surfing the net compared to a smart phone.  Mary

    I would try another restore of the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. Maybe something went wrong in the process. Make sure everything works before applying any updates and adding any hardware or software.
    Then add things carefully, rebooting Windows and testing the USB and audio at each step.
    Please note this.
    The only info windows gives me for the sound card is that it from Microsoft... with a driver version of 6.1.7601.17514....which naturally doesn't really help me since I have no idea what card or mobo I have . Is there any way for me to find out what I need other than opening up my laptop?
    Every one of them lists my mobo simply as a Toshiba motherboard, with no audio card information. Which I'm assuming that is because it has an internal sound processor. My problem is that none of the properties, or ANYTHING I try, will give me information on what I need to fix this...

    Thanks for taking the time to respond - however your reply didn't really help as you haven't explained how to delete the compilation album that had been created.
    I managed to sort it out by doing the following (I'm posting this so that it may help others).  I don't know if this is the simplest/most elegant solution - but it works.
    In iTunes, find the compilation (in my case, the 153 songs) and, starting with the first song, follow this procedure:
    On the iPhone go to 'Songs' and scroll down the list until you find the first song that was listed in iTunes (above).  You should notice (as in my case) that the song will have the correct title (and artwork too if you'd found this previously before making the compliation) but the wring artist.
    Swipe LEFT and press the 'Delete' button.
    Repeat with second song in iTunes list, deleting the individual songs from the iPhone, one by one.
    Although tedious, this seemed to work for me.  Reason for doing down the iTunes list is that it is in a pseudo-alphabetical order and I wanted to make sure I'd got every one.
    Now busy re-importing the original albums from CD.
    Thank you APPLE for making this such a laborious process.  Why can't designers actually TEST the products they design so that they can appreciate first-hand the likely problems?

    I'm new to all of this....have just brought a netbook (samsung n110), the system requirements seem to be fine for flash player but it just won't download! I'm wondering if this is the same issue others are discussing in this forum, any help would be much appreciated?
    I am using windows xp. I have uninstalled all old versions of flash player. I am trying to watch programme episodes on MTV online. When I get to the download stage on the adobe site it says close all other browser pages etc and I click download...but it just seems to reload this page and does not start the download. I have tried it uncountable times but no change. I have also attempted to change the operating system stated on the page just in case selecting XP makes a difference but when I do this and select 'vista/xp' and click continue it does not do anything or take me to step two....
    Is anyone able to advise if this is the same problem everyone is experiencing or if not, offer any solutions?

  • Textmessages a mess, anyone having the same proble...

    My Nokia X3 has a problem in sorting textmessages to conversation-folders. Sometimes messages from one person disappear and when I try to find them, they are in another conversation as if that person had sent them (for example I've been texting with Mary and suddenly Mary's messages are in Peter's conversation as if Peter had sent them). Anyone having the same problem? Is there anything to done about it? It's very annoying if I want to read messages afterwards.

    CS 6 or Photoshop 6. CS6 is version 13, Photoshop 6 is super ancient history.
    Either way CS6 should work in Yosemite but not officially supported by Adobe any longer.
    Are you trying to navigate to a location that is not there like a disconnected drive?
    Photoshop tries to remember the last location you opened from
    close photoshop
    open Macintosh HD:Applications:Adobe
    find the Photoshop folder or photoshop.app inside the folder, wherever you installed it
    hold down ctrl+opt+shift+cmd and click on the photoshop icon as you are holding these down
    when the prompt comes up to reset preferences click okay
    you can't do this from the dock icon or an alias btw.
    if that does not work
    create a new admin account,
    boot to that account
    run photoshop,
    if it works there is a problem with your old account and possibly corruption.

    Try a new SIM from your carrier.  If that doesn't work, make a Genius Bar appointment and get your phone evaluated.
