RE: iTalk and manual syncing, not automatic and whether I'll lose data...

I own the last iPod of the 4th Generation, 20GB model. I just bought (online) the iTalk for my iPod and my question is about the iTalk and transferring the recoding to iTunes. I set my iTunes to allow me to manually update me songs/podcasts, etc. I’ve (stupidly) deleted my songs from my Mac and now, if I enable the sync/update for iTunes, I’ll lose my music. The interesting thing is that, in my research, the iTalk sends over the data once connected to the Mac/PC and transfers the recordings to iTunes. My question is basically, will I have to enable “update automatically” in my iTunes to allow the recordings to transfer, or does it do it automatically? Thanks in advance.

Hi Darth Akbar,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Sorry for the delay. I had to back up my iTunes before I trashed my library to test your setup. Well, I just tried it. I have selected manual update for my tunes. (I also had nothing in the library when I plugged in my iPod.)
Your voice memo's are transferred to iTunes automatically. They are deleted from your iPod upon transfer.
If you want to keep them on your iPod, you'll have to put them back into your iPod to carry with you.
To disconnect, quit iTunes and unmount your iPod before unplugging.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Manually sync Notes and Safari bookmarks via USB cable for iOS device and an iMac with MacOS 10.7 Lion and iTunes 11

"I'm aware that with MacOS 10.8 Mountain Lion there is no support for USB cable sync of iOS devices." Notes and Safari Bookmarks cannot longer be sync via USB cable with iTunes. For owners of iPhone 3G that cannot upgraded the device to a version higher than iOS 4.2, syncing Notes and Safari Bookmarks via usb cable with iTunes is the only option we have. There is no iCloud integration for Notes and Safari Bookmarks under iOS 4.2. I'm not updating to MacOS 10.8, because there is no way to sync Notes and Safari Bookmarks via cable. So I won't be able to sync those anymore unless I upgrade to a newer model of iPhone. I'm not into a new hardware investment, at least not for now. I just want to know if iTunes 11 running in MacOS 10.7 Lion still have the functionality of sync Notes and Safari Bookmarks via USB cable.

Mac OS 10.7.5 and iTunes 11.0.4.

I want to confirm if "other" still appears with iTunes 11 and MacOS 10.7 for sync Notes and Safari Bookmarks:
    Yes.
If you are sincing Notes via iCloud, iTunes will tell you so.
If you change the iDevice - Settings> iCloud > Notes - Off, they sync (or not sync) thru iTunes (either wifi or cable).
So my question now would be:
Is "Notes" manual sync checkbox option provided under "Others" in iTunes 11.0.1 with MacOS 10.7 Lion?
If you change the iDevice - Settings> iCloud > Notes - Off, then yes.

  • Manual sync not working

When I set iTunes to automatically sync, it does. When I set it to "Manually manage disc", it does not auto-sync. But the problem is when I click the "Sync" button in the lower right, nothing happens. If I deselect "Manually manage disc", it syncs up at that time.

There is no auto-sync with Manual. When you manually manage your iPod you drag media onto your iPod -- there is no bi-directional synchronization as with auto-sync and sync-to-playlist. Also in Manual, song rating changes play history on your iPod do not update your iTunes library next time you connect it.

  • I lost my sync key and dont have access to my other computer and dont want to lose data on server by resetting it. How can I get my sync key?

I have tried words I usually use for passwords and they don't work. If I knew the acceptable format for the sync key, I could try others. But maybe the sync key is the same long number they originally sent me. I am in Chile and my laptop hard drive crashed and I needed to replace it. I can't access my sync key on my desktop in the United states but I want to download my syndc data to my laptop with the new hard drive but I dont have the sync key and I dont want to erase the sync data on the server by resetting the sync key.

I'm sorry but "you should have written it down" simply isn't a good solution. Having the keys at all is a bad idea in my opinion. The keys should be stored in your account and if you authenticate with a password, it should use that key. If you can't keep your password private or secure, that's your problem. The problem with the keys is, you can't delete your account and "start over" if you so wish. What happens if your machine locks up after you sign up and you have no time to write down your key?
You can request a new password, but can't be reminded of your key? This is nonsense. I have had no such headaches with XMarks and I'm trying to find a reason to keep using firefox sync with such an obviously user-unfriendly approach. We're humans, not machines.

  • HT1535 Manual Sync not Syncing

On my mac, I've dragged the particular playlists I want to be in my iPhone into my iPhone. When I click "On this Phone", it has listed what I want. However, it's all in gray, and it's not synced up. When I hit sync, it goes through the process and acts like it syncs, but nothing on my phone changes. I still have the same playlists/artists/music I had before, and not any of the new stuff (even with my recently added playlist). What's going on here?

Unchecking and rechecking songs worked for some but not all songs.  Recreating the library, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451 , works.

    Hi Gaubie,
Some printer/scanner drivers can do this. I once had a HP scanner that caused identical problems on my iBook and the G4 iMac. Open Activity Monitor in Applications/Utilities and look for a printer/scanner manufacturer's name, select it, then 'Quit Process' from the menu bar. Then see if sleep activates as it should.
If it solves the problem check on the relevant manufacturers website to see if there's an updated driver, the glitch may have been ironed out in a later release.
    Good luck and post back.

  • IOS 6 wireless sync not automatically starting?

Before iOS 6 my iPhone 4s would automatically synce each time I plugged the device into a power source.  After upgrading to iOS 6 this auto-sync w/ power no longer seems to happen.  Same story with my iPad2.  Anyone else aware of a problem like this?

It works fine on my gear.  Yours must not have the correct settings or may be faulty.

  • Manual Sync is working, but automatic and login & logout not working.

I'm having a problem in that I can do a manual sync with the "Sync Home Now".
However, whenever trying to have an automatic sync happen on it's own or the syncing to happen at login and logout. Syncing doesn't work.
After turning on more version loggin from MirrorAgent I think I've narrowed down the problem.
    At login I see this:
    MHD: =============================================================================== =====================
    MHD: **** MirrorAgent-99.9.3 (8L2127) (pid 512) starting Sun Oct 22 13:54:51 2006
MHD: Log verbosity level = 2.
    MHD: UID = 1027, EUID = 1027
    MHD: Empty thread
    MHD: Command thread starting.
    MHD: unpackhome: home->xmlSpec = "afp://192.168.102.3/Users"
    MHD: unpackhome: home->mhdPath = "ramos-m"
However, "afp://192.168.102.3" is not where my home directory resides.
Also at automatic time a similar message:
    Sun Oct 22 14:01:04.180 2006 * Syncing "HomeSync_Mirror"
Trying to mount remote home server "afp://192.168.102.3/Users"
Again wrong IP address. I've double and triple check the OD server and it's serving the correct info:
    HomeDirectory: <homedir><url>afp://172.16.1.101/Users</url><path>ramos-m</path></homedir>
    NFSHomeDirectory: /Network/Servers/BigMac.local/Users/ramos-m
I've rebooted the client so many time I've lost count. I also continously get the message at login time "Your network home has changed since your last synchronization. Please select the location of your latest files."
I've tried selecting both Network Home as well as Local Home many times yet I still have that old stuck IP address. How do I get the client to get unstuck with the old IP address and get the new one?

I've found more info. I think I've found the file that has that string in it. There's a file called:
    /Users/ramos-m/Library/Mirrors/0016cb8b9896/mirrors.plist
Which seems to have the string:
    <key>home_xmlSpec</key>
    <string>afp://192.168.102.3/Users</string>
Which is the incorrect home. Why is this here and how do I fix it? Do I just put the right one in there? Somehow that feels wrong in that it's only a band-aid. Why isn't this file getting updated? What is it?
    Thanks,

  • Sync Outlook contacts and calendar with iTunes between iPhone 4 and Outlook 2010 (32bits) USB only manually, not automatically.

    Hello guys,
After disabeling and enabeling the option automatic sync iPods, iPhones and iPad in iTunes (settings > devices), my iPhone 4 is only syncing manually and not automatically as before the option change.
With manually sync I mean connecting the usb cable and pushing the synchronisation button in iTunes. I reinstalled Outlook (Office 2010 32bit) and iTunes but it did not solve the problem and it's still only manually syncing. I also renewed the Windows Profile. Is there an option I missed in iTunes or Outlook? In Outlook is the iTunes Outlook Addin present and enabled....
How can I solve this problem?
    Thanks, William

Hi, could you specify what you did. It appears that nothing on my iPhone syncs any more. I have an iMac and iPhone 4 running the latest system updates. Thanks!

  • I lost my itunes after syncing and older iphone to my powermac g4.  Originally I had an older ipod nano that I would sync to the g4 and everything was fine. Lost itunes music even though preferences had been set in advance for not automatically syncing.

My itunes library had been fine.  I had been using an older ipod nano to sync with my itunes library and had been doing manual syncs, with the preferences in itunes set for not allowing "ipods or iphones" to sync automatically.  I found out that apple had a program to replace the battery on this older ipod nano, so I sent it in.  It was great, they didn't have an exact replacement and sent me a later ipod nano.  However, this ipod nano is so new - I will have to get a newer computer with a later operating system to use it.
So, I thought I'd use my old iphone to listen to my old playlists.  I thought the preferences were set for not automatically syncing iphone to itunes.
I've had problems in the past with the syncs with this iphone and my computer because of the USB port (1.1).  I'm thinking this was the problem.
The apple store did something to update the software on my iphone when it wasn't working one day. I think that when I tried to sync the iphone to the g4 cube via the old port (1.1) it basically wiped out everything on my itunes.  Whatever was my selected playlist for my iphone - that was the only music
that remained on my computer and the iphone.  I only had about 20 songs purchased on my library, but alot of music that had been downloaded, I gave away those original cds.  I did have a back up on my external drive, but that thing died a few weeks ago from some random power outtages we had this fall.
I'm not looking to purchase retrieval software or have some outside third party to retrieve it for me.  It's not that much music lost.  I just wanted confirmation that this is what happened: that my old iphone sync is what erased the music.

The old iTunes library was lost with the old PC.  However, it all that music and content is still on your iPod there are many ways you can extract this content from the iPod and import it back into iTunes.
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Then i try and plug it into my pc with iTunes on (i've set it to do not automatically sync devices) but it still freezes every time. the only way to unfreeze it is by detatching the ipod or resetting with menu/centre (until it loads up again, where it immediately unfreezes and comes up with a load of messages saying "cannot read iPod" and when i try and restore it by pressing menu/centre button while it's plugged in, it says "cannot restore as it is being used by another program" or "error 1415". How can I stop music and movies from being automatically deleted from my phone and saved on the cloud? I've just tried to watch a movie on my 2 hour commute, but yet AGAIN it has been removed. I do NOT want to spank all of my data allowance downloading it again, especially because (believe it or not) I added it to my phone because that's precisely where I wanted it!! Any help much appreciated

FYI I had to put this link into firefox to reply - because **** back safari just wouldn't register my clicks to any of the links on the post... Despite reloadeing and even restarting my computer. Totally annoying and a massive pain in the ***.
But in terms of my initial query; thanks for responding. But no, this is NOT the cause of the problem. I have auto sync and sync over wifi activated, but have also selected manually manage music and videos. Plus, all of my music and videos are on my macbook, absolutely all of it, so if it my phone was syncing with my macbook everything would still be on the phone. Life would be peachy if my phone jsut copied everything that was on my macbook, but unfortuantely it keeps deleting tracks for no apparent reason.
Any thoughts greatly welcomed, because at the moment i can only conclude that my iphone is crap.

  • First-time user of IPod Shuffle, my husand has an IPod Touch and has hundreds of songs already on his ITunes account. If Is it possible to have two ITunes accounts so his music is not automatically loaded onto my new Shuffle?

Just bought an IPod Shuffle; my husband has an IPod Touch and has hundreds of songs on his ITunes account.  Is it possible to have two different accounts on the same computer to prevent his music from being loaded onto my Shuffle?

When you say "iTunes account," I think you mean iTunes library.  An iTunes "account" is what you use to sign in to the iTunes Store (your Apple ID) and purchase songs (and other media).  The iTunes library is what you have on your computer, with your songs and playlists.  That is what you use for syncing iPods.
You can have a separate iTunes library.  If you create a new user account on your computer (using Windows) and log in to that user account, iTunes will create a new iTunes library for that account.  In fact, Windows will keep ALL of your documents separate, as if you are using a separate computer.  That is probably the best way to keep your songs in a different iTunes library.
You can also create a separate iTunes library in the same Windows user account, if you use this procedure to switch between iTunes libraries
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1589
Also, you can use the same iTunes library, and decide what songs you want put on the shuffle.  iTunes does not automatically put songs on the shuffle, unless you tell it to do so.  This document explains how to load content on shuffles
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
NOTE:  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  When connected, your shuffle appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.
FYI - There is a link to the shuffle user manual on this support web page for the shuffle

  • IPhone 6, manual sync of contacts and calendar with Google?

I usually prefer a manual sync of things like contacts and calendar with Google, rather than an automatic periodic sync. I don't change my calendar or contact list very often, so manual sync works best for me. I could do this with Android, but with iOS if I sync contacts and calendar with Google, and then turn off that syncing, iOS wants to remove my Google contacts and Google calendar events from my phone. So I seem to have no choice, either auto-sync, or no Google contacts and calendar events at all.
Does anyone out there know of a way to manually sync my Google contacts and calendar events when I want to?
How often does the Google calendar and contacts sync get done? Maybe it isn't an issue, if it only does a sync when I change my Google contact list or Google calendar?
Anyways, I really don't like automatic, periodic syncing to a web site happening on my phone if I don't need them to happen.
    Thanks.

I can help you with your calendar problem.
You'll need to export your calendar from google into iCal, and then start making all your changes to your iCal calendar.
I wrote up the procedure with some screenshots here!
    http://take-a-tech-tip.blogspot.com/2011/10/icloud-moving-google-calendars-to.ht ml
    I hope it helps.
About your contacts, I'm not sure I'd be able to give you good instructions since I haven't done the whole procedure myself. I did however, have my Address Books contacts synced with Google.
This post might help you. It talks about moving Google Contacts to your Address Book.
    http://take-a-tech-tip.blogspot.com/2011/09/iphone-google-contacts-sync-and.html
That should get your contacts from Google to your address book. Then, you can set up iCloud to have your contacts synced, and that should put them to iCloud. You can check by going to icloud.com and seeing if it worked. Then, I imagine you would have to disable the Google syncing with your Address Book (if I remember correctly, your computer will tell you it has to do this once you enable iCloud syncing for contacts).
