Re: iTunes 11.1.3 freezes when connecting to ITunes Store

Pedro, thank you for your attempt at assistance,
I have NO third party plug-ins.  The problem persists in Safe Mode:
Connecting my iPhone to a working iTunes session freezes iTunes, and it becomes unresponsive.
Trying to start iTunes while my iPhone is connected freezes iTunes and it becomes unresponsive.
PLEASE stop trying to pass it off like a third-party problem!

Hello there, KMB1.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great steps for isolating your issue running iTunes in Safe Mode:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430
There are several ways in which an add-on can cause iTunes to act erratically, such as those listed below:
- Loss of iTunes functionality, such as the Visualizer.
- Distortion or irregularity in the iTunes interface.
- Slow performance.
- iTunes won't open or quits unexpectedly.
- You see an alert while syncing stating "... cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified."
If you notice any of the above symptoms or other unusual behavior, you can disable any plug-ins not manufactured by Apple by opening iTunes in Safe Mode. This is done by holding down the Option and Command keys (on Mac OS X) or holding down the Shift and Control keys (on Windows) while opening iTunes. If performed correctly, you should see the following dialog before iTunes finishes starting up:
"iTunes is running in Safe Mode. Visual plug-ins you have installed have been temporarily disabled."
If the above does not resolve your issue, try to isolate further by testing in another user account:
Isolating an issue by using another user account
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4053
Symptoms
When isolating issues and/or troubleshooting software issues in OS X, you might want to use a different user account. Learn how to use this technique to narrow down the cause of an issue.
Resolution
The issue at hand may simply be caused by a bad preference setting or user-specific data file. With proper isolation, you can avoid time-consuming and inappropriate troubleshooting methods.

  • ITunes crashing when connecting to the store on Windows 8.1

    Hello,
I had iTunes crashing when connecting to the iTunes Store with an Apple ID. I tried unsucessfully all the solutions posted on the many threads of people having the same issue. So I decided to reinstall Windows. A clean Windows 8.1 install from the Microsoft DVD. And guess what, it is still crashing! How can this even be possible?
    The problem:
    - iTunes crashes when connecting to the store with an Apple ID. It connects, briefly freezes, then crashes.
    - I can access the store without an Apple ID without crashes. But it crashes as soon as I connect with an Apple ID.
    The system:
    - A clean, fully updated, Windows 8.1 Pro w/ WMC install from the Microsoft DVD.
    - Applications I installed, along with iTunes: Adobe Reader, Google Chrome, Skype, Office 2013. Nothing else. No crapware. No nothing. These are fairly common applications that shouldn't conflict with iTunes.
    - Antivirus is the built-in Windows Defender.
    - Firewall is the built-in Windows Firewall.
    - Intel HD Graphics 3000 on an Acer V3-571-6486
    - I have not moved Apple's folder from Romaing and Local AppData of the old systems... So it's a clean iTunes profile.
    - I can sucessfully sign-in to the iTunes Store with this account on another computer
    - I have tried with multiple accounts on this computer, all crashing
There are tons of threads about this. I tried all the solutions posted, including:
    - Adding "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to the PATH environment variable
    - Copying QTMovieWin.dll from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes"
    - Moving QTMovieWin.dll from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes"
    - Updating the graphics card to the latest available driver from Intel's website (9.17.10.3517, 2014-10-04)
    - Downgrade the graphics driver (9.17.10.3347, 2014-01-29)
    - Use the graphic's driver from Acer's website.
    - Use Microsoft's Basic VGA Driver
    - Disable the Graphic's Adapter entirely
    - Have tried to monitor the process with ProcMon, looking for a hint like a missing file or registry entry, but have not found anything helpful.
These solutions seem to have worked for almost everyone, but not me. The crash details in the Windows Application log are useless. Faulty module name is 'unknown'.
I am out of solutions. Is there anything left to do? Can anyone out Apple debug the dump file or something? Is there any way to contact Apple about this issue?
    Many thanks.

    Hey zoyashahab,
Ok, so it sounds like there are two issues here we want to address, the first being the iTunes Store connection issue and the second being iTunes not recognizing your iOS devices.
First, I'd start with troubleshooting the recognition by following the steps in here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If after getting that running again, you still can't connect to the iTunes Store, then I'd go through the troubleshooting steps in here:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store

  • IPod Classic 80 GB Freezes when connecting to Computer

    Hi.
My iPod Classic 80 GB Freezes when connecting to my computer (Vista... yes... I know). I've got my iPod for over a year now and I've never had real trouble with it.
When I plug it in (iTunes already running) my computer gives me the 'thumbthumb' noise because an USB thingamajib is connected to the computer. At this moment my iPod freezes and stays on. iTunes doesn't seem to find my pod. When I disconnect my iPod, it'll stay on (doesn't go energy safe mode) and stays frozen until the battery is empty. But by then, I've already lost my playing info (Which I really value).
    Pllllllease help me out her.

Someone has finally found a solution to this problem and i decided that i would spread the word around ... so here are the steps:
    1) Quit iTunes.
    2) Delete iTunes from your Applications folder.
    3) Go to your ~/Music/iTunes folder. Delete or rename the "iTunes Library" file.
    4) Open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and look for the backup of your old pre-9 library; it should be dated at about the time you first ran iTunes 9. Copy it back out to the ~/Music/iTunes folder, and rename it to "iTunes Library".
    6) Go to <http://support.apple.com/downloads/iTunes8_21> and download iTunes 8.2.1. The page says it's for G3, but the Read Me file says it'll run on G4, G5, and Intel too. Open the diskimage and run the installer.
You should now be able to run iTunes 8.2.1 again.
And your iTunes will restore to before you upgraded and you won't lose anything.
*If you download the iTunes file from the "support.apple" link, and you can't open it, go to http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/06/28/apple-itunes-8-2-and-quicktime-7-6-2-di rect-download-links/ and download "iTunes 8.2 for Windows: iTunesSetup.exe

  • Computer is crashing (freeze) when connecting my iPod Nano

    Hello,
my computer is crashing (freeze) when connecting my iPod Nano. I have a Pentium IV with windows XP Pro. Can anybody help me please.

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update).  Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

My iPhone 5 is freezing when connected to the charger. This is not happinning if it is connected to the computer USB. How to solve this problem?

Possibly faulty charger. The supplied Apple Charger is covered by the iPhone Warranty. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send iPhone and Charger to Apple for resolution.

  • MBP freezes when connected to VGA projector

My MacBook Pro (15" 2.4Ghz SR, 4Gb) freezes when connected to a VGA projector, doesn't matter whether the DVI-VGA adapter is connected to cable first or last. Boot time while connected to the projector is also inordinately long. I have seen this happen a number of times specifically with other Santa Rosa MBPs.
I haven't called Apple yet on this and I suspect it will require a firmware update to fix; is this a known issue (and is it known to apple?)
    thanks
    --p

Just to update this thread with what I've posted elsewhere:
On my machine this problem only happens if the computer has been put to sleep before being connected to a projector. That is, put to sleep after being booted but before connection to the computer. It can be connected after booting without sleep. Once it has been successfully connected to a projector, it can be disconnected, put to sleep, awakened and reconnected with no problem.
I think that this "first sleep after boot" issue is what makes the occurrence of this problem so variable.
Some people just leave their computer on for long periods, only putting it to sleep when not using it. If they connected to a projector before putting it to sleep the first time they wouldn't see this problem.

  • ITunes 11.1.3 freezes when connecting to ITunes Store

I've never had troubles with iTunes before, but as of yesterday, iTunes 11.1.3 (MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012, OS 10.7.5) freezes while in process of connecting to the iTunes Store or my loading my account.  I force it to quit ("iTunes not responding") and try again with the same results.  I've tried to restart the machine several times, I've verified the Disk on Disk Utilities, scanned for viruses, and just did an entire re-install with a new download of the same software.  All appears fine, but then I have the same problem when opening iTunes.  I'm able to get online with other applications, and I can access iTunes without problems via my iPad and iPhone.  So it has to be a software problem, but I can't figure out how to fix it.  Any advice is appreciated!

  • ITunes freezes when connecting iPod Touch - even after restored

    Hi,
I have an iPod Touch 32GB 4th generation, I have never had any problems with it until now.
Today I tried to connect it to my iTunes (on my MacBook Pro - late 2011 model) in order to sync it so that I could transfer some of my new music and iTunes would freeze. The mouse would pinwheel and I would have to force quit (it would not respond for over 30mins if left unattended). I created a new admin user and the itunes on the other user recognised the iPod just fine. I used the other user to restore my iPod in the hopes that when connected to my library again, it would be a 'new' ipod and so it would no longer freeze. Unfortunately this was not the case, despite my library recognising an ipod in recovery mode and being able to restore it (so that I can now at least use it in its most basic form). It has subsequently frozen each time I connect my iPod. How can I fix this? Should I just wait for the next iTunes upgrade?
    Thank you
    Frances

    Hi Frances,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
The sugestions in the article below should help. They will resolve most issues that cause iTunes to stop responding when an iOS device is connected to the computer.
iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3219
    Symptoms
In rare instances, iTunes may become unresponsive when connecting an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your computer. iTunes may become responsive again after you disconnect the device from the computer.
    Resolution
Expand All Sections | Collapse All Sections
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
Install any available software updates for your computer.
For Mac OS X: Click the Apple () menu, choose Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions.
For Windows: Refer to the documentation for your computer for instructions on using Windows Update to update your computer.
Update iTunes to the latest version.
For Mac OS X: Click the Apple () menu, choose Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions. You can also download iTunes from the Apple website.
For Windows: Use Apple Software Update, or download iTunes from the Apple website.
Test with automatic syncing disabled.Reconnect your device and test to see if the issue still occurs. If your device is recognized successfully, you may be able to isolate which type of data is causing the issue. Do this by deselecting all syncing options under each of the syncing tabs and then sync. After that, re-enable your sync options one at a time until the issue returns.
Note: If the issue only occurs when syncing data from the Info tab is enabled (For example: Contact, Calendar, Mail account or Bookmark syncing), reset the Sync History (for Mac OS X instructions see this article, for Windows see this article).
For Mac OS X: Click the iTunes menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and place a check next to option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically." Click OK.
For Windows: Click the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and place a check next to option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically." Click OK.
Check your device for podcasts. If there are any podcasts, manually delete all podcast episodes from the device by sliding your finger across the podcast episode's name and tapping Delete. Once all podcasts are removed from your device, reconnect it to the computer, open iTunes, and test.
If possible, test to see if connecting your device to a different computer with the latest version of iTunes installed resolves the issue.
    Test with iTunes plug-ins removed.
    Quit iTunes.
Navigate to the following folder, based on your operating system:
    Windows XP:  C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins
    Windows Vista or Windows 7:  C:\Users\[username]\App Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins
    Mac OS X:
~/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins   (The "~" represents your Home folder)
    /Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins
If any files are in this folder, move them to the Desktop temporarily.
Open iTunes and test to see if the issue is resolved. If so, you may leave these iTunes plug-ins removed. If you wish to re-use these iTunes plug-ins, consult the vendor for the iTunes plug-ins to see if any updates are available.
If the issue also occurs on a different computer:
If the issue does not occur on a different computer, or no other computer is available to try:

When I'm playing songs with iTunes and connecting my 3G 20GB iPod, my computer will hang up completely - screen goes dark and I have to reset my PC.
However, when my iTunes is "idle", i.e. not playing a song or doing anything else, connecting and syncing the iPod will work just fine.

  • ITunes freezes when connecting ipod

I just recieved my 60GB iPod video and followed all the instructions exactly as supposed to...
Step 1 was loading the software, which I had no problems with
Step 2 was importing music to my computer, which I already had from my previous iPod
Step 3 was connecting the iPod, this is where I ran into problems!
I connected the iPod and the "Do not disconnect" screen was flashing on the iPod as it should, but iTunes did not open. When I tried to open iTunes myself it was frozen. I also tried to see if the iPod was appearing in windows explorer but that was frozen too. When I disconnected the iPod, iTunes and windows explorer began to run perfectly. I've spent 3 hours reseting, reloading and restarting everything but nothing has worked. Also, my laptop is very new so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. If anyone knows what to do please let me know!

I am having the same problem of my PC freezing when I plug in my 60 Gb iPod. My PC is runnging Windows XP professional. If the iPod is plugged in to the USB port everyting but the mouse freezes. As soon as I unplug the iPod the PC works perfectly. I uninstalled iTunes and the iPod utility and I still have the same freezing problem when the iPod is plugged in. I have a feeling their is a conflict with the iPod and my USB which is USB 1.1. When I plug the iPod into my Sony Vaio laptop everthing works perfectly. I am gooing to get a USB 2.0 and try that next. .

  • ITunes Freezes when connecting ANY iOS device

So, my issue is exactly what the title describes, but let me give some more detail.
I have a MacBook Pro (OSX 10.9.5) that's currently running iTunes 11.4. My issue is that every time I connect any of my iOS devices (or my wife's or friends') as soon as iTunes begins to detect an iOS device, it freezes. The computer doesn't freeze, the device doesn't freeze, just iTunes - as soon as the device name pops up in the upper right corner of iTunes, the program freezes.
This issue did not happen on previous versions of iTunes (I think on 11.2 and earlier), but as soon as I updated, it started happening. For a while, I just kept a previous version of iTunes so that I could keep syncing my devise, but when I got my iPhone 5 (recently) it won’t requires the newer iTunes version, so I can’t keep doing that.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes multiple times with no success. I have tried resetting the devices, making sure all updates are done on all devices, etc.
To be clear, I have tried this with multiple different devices (iPod Touch 3rdGen, iPad 2, iPod Touch 4thGen, iPad Mini, iPhone 5) and it does exactly the same thing with all of them – it does not happen with any of these devices when connecting them to my wife’s PC or my work MacBook Pro. This makes me assume that it is an issue with either my Macbook Pro, or with how iTunes is installed on it.

Alright, here's what I got for you from the console:

  • ITunes and Computer freeze when connecting 160GB iPod classic

    160 GB iPod Classic
    Model: MC293LL
    Version: 2.0.4 PC
    iTunes version: 11.1.3
    computers: 1 Win8 desktop,
1 Win7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1 Notebook
since yesterday I started having trouble with my iPod. When connecting it to the Notebook it showed a message: "There's a problem with this device. Scan the drive now and fix it". After clicking on scan and trying to fix the problem the notebook froze, so I connected it to me desktop, and it worked, it said that the problem was fixed. But when trying to open the iTunes it froze and after disconnecting it I realised the music was gone. So I connected it again, the same "There's a problem with this device. Scan the drive now and fix it"-message showed, but at the end the computer said it didn't detect any problem with the drive, so I opened iTunes and restored the iPod, and it worked but after that iTunes froze, then Windows Explorer and then the whole computer. Tried to connect the iPod to the Win7 Notebook and the same thing happened, first iTunes froze and then the computer froze, they both didn't show the blue screen.
What can I do? The iPod was already restored to the factory settings.

i had the same problem. all i did was download the newest version of itunes, which i had been putting off for months because it takes so long. after i did this itunes worked fine for me
    hope this helps

  • IPod 5G freezes when connected to PC

Hey all- I was just wondering if anyone can help with this problem I've been having with my iPod 5th Gen and iTunes.
Recently I had to do a System Restore to a few days previous - my Internet would not work without me doing so. However, I noticed that iTunes was acting strangely when I opened it. Certain folder names are changed about (example: where it used to say "Audiobooks" it now reads "The document is in PDF..."), also when in the iTunes store and it previously said "iTunes store is loading..." it now says "Purchased". It still let me transfer songs (although a message came up saying something about how an error had occured or something), so I didn't really care. However now when I try to connect my iPod to transfer songs, nothing happens. iTunes freezes, nothing more.
    Help?!

It used to show that but now it simply freezes on the main menu screen. The "Do Not Disconnect" screen doesn't even appear. When it was freezing with the Do Not Disconnect screen the iPod wasnt being recognized by iTunes or as a drive on the PC. When I connect it in my car i have no problems and can access the music like normal.

  • Macbook Pro Freezes When Connected to iPod Classic!

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro that is acting a little funky. Whenever I plug in my iPod Classic to add music everything works perfectly fine until I eject the iPod. My computer then basically freezes up (gives the rainbow spinwheel of death) and it will not recover. The iPod icon doesn't disappear, it just turns light grey and everytime my only option is to force quit iTunes. The problem doesn't end there, my computer is completely bogged down and I have to force shut it down. It is incredibly annoying... The iPod works perfectly fine when I plug it into my fiancee's older Macbook Pro, it ejects fine and I've run disk utility on it using that computer and there are no problems with the iPod. My mid 2010 Macbook Pro runs other USB devices just fine (iPhone, iPad, Flash Drives etc.) it's just the iPod.
Additionally, every since I upgraded to OS X 10.7 the computer will not shut down/restart. It just goes to a grey screen with a spinny wheel and won't fully shut down (I've left it over night to no success still grey screen). I have reinstalled OS X several times so I'm confused on this one as well. Any information on either of these issues would be greatly GREATLY appreciated.

I should add that I can quit iTunes with the iPod connected. When I try to eject the iPod by manually dragging the icon to the trash the funkiness begins (icon doesn't disappear just turns light grey, and the computer freezes). I have found the computer behaves if I put it to sleep with the iPod connected (the iPod will eject properly) and when I wake the computer up, everything works w/o funkiness, however the greyed out iPod icon will still be on the desktop. This is the only way I've found to be able to manage this iPod when connected to this MBP.
