RE: Itunes deleted purchased TV Shows and Movies

This is an answer to an aparently archived question.  The answers given (that one cannot re-download TV shows if one's disk crashes, and iTunes is not backed up) are plain WRONG.  People, if you are going to answer questions please ensure you have your facts straight.
To re-download TV shows, log into the iTunes store and navigate to your account.  There is a menu provided at the bottom of your account details that includes a section called "Manage".  Click "purchases", and this option will allow you to re-download any purchases you have made.

Those answers were not wrong at the time they were made, and are now only wrong for some people, and for some content. Here in the UK I believe I can now access my past Music and TV show purchases, but not Movies or Audiobooks. In the US most, but not all, movie purchases can be redownloaded. Hopefully before too long all our previous purchases, in all media types will be available, in every region, but that certainly isn't the case yet. The correct approach to avoid data loss is to backup your library. Even if you can recover the content from the store that won't replace ratings, play counts, playlists etc.

  • HT201322 itunes 11.0.3 - in my iTunes library I can no longer see purchased TV shows and Movies that are not downloaded to my computer. also In my Itunes account i have no hidden TV shows or Movies

    I'm running itunes 11.0.3 -
in my iTunes library I can no longer see purchased TV shows and Movies that are not downloaded to my computer.
In my Itunes account i have no hidden TV shows or Movies
I used to be able to view all cloud and downloaded content.  I no longer can.

There used to be option to show items that are in the cloud in your library, but I can't find where that now is (unless it's been removed). You should be able to see what items that you can re-download via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (at the top right of that there should be a 'not on this computer' button)
Edit : Just seen your reply, though I don't appear to have that setting on mine.

  • Purchased tv shows and movies still missing AFTER 3.0.1

After upgrading to 3.0 all my purchased content (movies + tvshows) have disappeared. I upgraded to 3.0.1 which is supposed to fix the problem - however my content is still missing. I know all my movies + tv shows are still on the thing, because the About Screen shows many GB are still in use. The files are there, but the menu does not show them!
I don't sync with a computer, and all my purchases were made directly on the appletv.
I've tried multiple resets, checked for updates (there aren't any). Its just a standard appletv, no hacks / mods etc.
I have called appletv phone support but they wouldn't help me as my warranty has expired. The unit hasn't failed, it was the 3.0 software update. I don't see why this is a warranty issue.
Does anyone know how I can recover my purchased content?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Yes there was a reported issue with the 3.0 upgrade that caused content to be lost. I'm not sure it's a great idea not to link your tv with an itunes library and transfer purchases for security, but that's another matter.
Apple are aware of this issue and I don't believe the support you received was in line with Apples policy here. You may need to factory restore your tv and upgrade to the latest software again, but before you do, go to your itunes account purchase history, highlight the problematic content and report a problem, telling them exactly what has happened.
I believe you should be able to redownload all your purchases, which of course you won't want to do until undertaking a restore.

  • Cleaned installed Windows 7 (64bit) and then itunes 10.5 does not like older itunes purchased TV Shows and Movies?

bringing my library across from my external harddrive, i have noticed that all my House episodes (amongst others) and some older movies will not show in my Library, is there a lack of sync with older files in itunes10.5?
Any help would be much appreciated because this might question my belief in the itunes phenomenum in contrast to just owning a DVD?

Got it working today. I waited until there wre enough messages posted from others in other threads to hopefully get a solution.
I had originally not been able to load iTunes 10.5 64 bit on my HP. I did uninstall, I loaded an older version 10.2 and tried to upgrade it. Nothing worked.
There was a post to another thread about removing QuickTime and then re-installing QuickTime. That did not work. I uninstalled QuickTime again. Then I found a post to uninstall the Appl Software Updater. I did that through Control Panel.
Now my system had only iTunes 10.2 on it, no software updater, no QuickTime.
I ran the full version of iTunes 10.5 (that you get at itunes.com
It ran and when done installing all its components, it started iTunes. I checked the version in Help and it was 10.5.
Not a very pleasant experience. Be aware that if you load an old version like I did, you will have to delete your music library that has an itl extension. This phone and computer had no music so it was not a problem. If you have a lot of music, I would not load an earlier version. Just uninstall all the stuff and do your install.

  • How do I delete purchased TV shows

How do I permanently  delete purchased TV shows & movies from iTunes & iCloud? Once I've seen them, I'm done & my computer wants to download them again each time.
    Thank you

You can't delete them from your purchased list, but you should be able to hide them from view in iTunes as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919.  You might also try going to iTunes Preferences>Store and unchecking "Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases".

  • Why cant I download TV Shows and Movies

I recently purchased an iTunes $50 voucher to purchase TV Shows and movies off iTunes and I have been told that I cannot because I am not in the US. I have just wasted $50 that I could of went out and bought box sets when they came out.
I want to know why and if i can download tv shows and movies out of the US ( i am in australia), I bought a 30GB video ipod to watch the TV Shows and movies, but when I found out I am disgusted that we cant do it.
    WHY?
    Windows XP/Vista   Windows XP Pro

Sorry, but as has been said here many times already, the movie studios (so far only Disney and Paramount even in the US) have not licensed Apple to sell movies outside of the US. There's nothing Apple can do unless and until they're granted the rights. When, or indeed if, this will happen, no one can say, though Apple has said that they hope to be able to offer movies internationally sometime in 2007.
As to TV shows, there have been no indications if, much less when, the show owners will ever license Apple to sell them outside the US.
Again, sorry, but we'll all just have to wait and see.

  • Why doesnt itunes have the shows and movies i want to buy available for purchase in the store yet for example code lyoko and five fingers of death

I would buy these shows and movies on itunes but they are not available how can i find them on itunes or somewere else that does have the shows and movies that i watch instead of the limited amount of content on itunes store now.

Apple can only sell in a particular country's store what the content providers/rights-holders grant them licenses to sell. You can try requesting that they be added to your country's store, but unless the rights-holder agrees to it then Apple won't be able to sell them there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html
Have you checked to see if they are available on other film/TV programme apps that you have access to ? e.g. is Netflix available in your country and have they got them ?

  • Itunes 11 cannot play purchased TV shows or Movies

I recently upgraded my PC to itunes 11.  Since the upgrade, I have been unable to play any purchased TV shows or Movies in itunes.  I use Home Share, and the videos will play on my iPad and iPhone, but will not play on my PC.  The video screen opens to a black screen, and the times shows it is playing, but the screen stays black, with no audio.
    What I have tried:
    1.  Rebooted several times, and restarted iTunes
    2.  Ensured there were no updates pending
    3.  In Quicktime, set video to Safe (GUI)  -No change
    4.  In iTunes, deauthorized and reauthorized my account.
Really a pain, and now I am holding off on upgrading other devices until I can make sure that this is resolved.  This is exactly why Apple needs to remove restrictions on their files, as all of my other Movies and TV shows that were no purchased from Apply play fine.

I have resolved this issue.  Here is the link to the solution:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1277
I did not feel comfortable deleting the files, so I renamed the SC Info folder to oldSC Info, and then rebooted.  Once I went back into iTunes and played a TV Show, it asked me to autorize again, and then everything worked great.

  • Can't download previously purchased tv shows or movies, they dont appear on my MBA in itunes but do appear on my ipod 5

i recently purchased a new ipod 5 (ios 7), i have a 2013 MBA, i am running the latest itunes on both devices.
i am not able to see a list of my previously purchased tv shows or movies in itunes on my MBA but can see the list on my new ipod.
they dont appear as "previously purchased" any resolution to this issue

The iTunes Store went DRM free for music back in 2009 but the other content such as movies, TV shows, audiobooks and iBooks still contain it as required by the rights holders. This limits you to playing the content on a computer or device with the necessary software to decode the DRM. It should be possible to connect your large display to your laptop's audio and video outputs if you want to make use of the larger display, or you could purchase an Apple TV unit.
Here is one of the support articles on this topic iTunes: Frequently asked questions about viewing and syncing videos. I imagine there are references to the same or similar in the terms and conditions that most of us skip over when installing the software.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and help.  Ended up logging out of my apple ID account.  Of note, when I did I did a quick test and checked out both the movies and tv show options, and it all worked perfectly.  I then logged back in, and now all my purchased and rentals are available which makes sense.  I guess with the update there was some weird bit of trons that required one to log out then back in.  Probably doing a rest in between may not hurt for some.  Thanks again for all the assistance. Cheers.
It looks like there is a Apple doc for this problem here -> Apple TV: Unable to access Movies, TV Shows, or other iTunes features after updating

  • So I bought a video on iTunes, how do I make it compatible with iMovie so I can edit it and make my own video?  If I can't do this, then how do those people on YouTube make videos with clips from TV shows and Movies?

  • ITunes TV Shows and Movies (UK)

Why am I not seeing TV shows and Movies in the UK store yet? I think it would be brilliant as TV is full of crap here, I'd be able to watch what I want, when I want, all in one place.
I watched the latest webcast "It's Showtime : Apple Special Event" held in San Fransisco, brilliant revision news about media for apples - however this sort of thing builds up my hopes only to dash me down as I live in the UK. Some things aren't here yet.
An idea about movie and TV show downloads is that i need subtitles which is something I look for when purchasing movies in an entertainment store. something which has no mention in any of the iTunes stores. Maybe quicktime should have this capability built in (I'm not sure if it has already!), this way I would be very compelled to make iTunes store purchases if movies and TV shows appear here in the UK.
Does anybody know anything about this or have any thoughts??
    Post back.

According to the keynote and followup coverage, Apple hope to provide Movies/Videos in international markets (including obviously the UK) by the end of 2007. From what I can gather this means something like September/October.
It has also been revealed recently that apart from Japan, Asia as a whole will not get getting iTunes Movies. However as far as I am aware the only Asian country with a store listed is still Japan in any case.
I already find iTunes tracks too expensive on the store (compared to a full CD quality physical CD on Amazon), so I don't expect to buy movies/videos even when they are available on the UK store. However what is of interest is what the BBC are going to do. In theory they have to provide programs free to UK citizens (since we have already paid via the TV license). This would be technically possible by the BBC pricing them at £0.00 on the UK store and $1.99 on the US (for example).
The current mechanism the BBC uses is iMP which uses Windows Media Player (for Windows) and therefore does not support Macs.
Hmmm, just noticed that Amazon's Unbox does list Dr. Who (from the BBC) at $1.99 per episode (not per story), however as Amazon's Unbox is not available in the UK (yet) we still don't know what policy the BBC are going to adopt.
Note to Americans: While 'modern' Dr. Who stories are mainly single episodes in length (with a few double length ones), older stories were up to 6 episodes long, and some of the William Hartnell ones were 7 episodes long and one was 12! See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listof_Doctor_Whoserials

I am unable to purchase tv shows or movies via iTunes on iPhone 5 running iOS7. Can purchase songs, have plenty of space available on the device, and no issues purchasing tv shows or movies from iTunes using my computer. Has anyone else had this issue?

Do you have the appropriate TV shows / Music Playlists checked in the corresponding tabs on the iPhone?
