Re: Keyboard problems after upgrade to Windows 8 Pro

I have an HP Media Center Desktop PC, about 3 years old, with a Logitech wired keyboard. I had no problems at all until I upraded to Windows 8 64 bit from Vista. After a period of inactivity (anywhere from a half hour to several hours) the keyboard ceases to function. Nothing I type appears on the screen. It's as if I had disconnected the keyboard. It happens in any application, even the user login. I have no issue with the mouse. That's a wireless HP mouse.

Hello Spece:
Welcome to HP's forum. Please post your computer's information so we can direct you to the right software and drivers. Example ; HP Touchsmart 600-1050 Windows 7 64 bit. Thank you frrw

  • Keyboard problems after upgrade to Windows 8 Pro

    Model 610-1280qd
After updating, I find that my HP wireless keyboard that came with the computer, no longer allows me to use the number keys and special characters above the letters. Device manager shows 5 listings under the keyboard tab including a PS2 keyboard. Whats up with that? To enter numbers, I have to move to the numeric keypad. If I need a special character, I have to enter it by using the onscreen keyboard. Any suggestions? The other listings all have to do with a Microsoft IR keyboard. So, is this a Microsoft keyboard driver issue or an HP keyboard driver issue?

    Hello Ken1766
Are you using IE10 in the Metro UI or on the Desktop? Try using it in the opposite interface and see if the problem persists.
    IE10 is in the directory C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
Let me know if both experience the same problem.

  • WiFi problem after upgrading to Windows 8.1 Lenovo R400 ThinkPad

I have this problem after updating to 8 to 8.1
Right after updating to 8 to 8.1, all of a sudden my wifi stops working. I used my philips external wifi usb stick and now I'm able to get the internet going.
However if I disconnect my philips usb I no longer get the internet because the built in wifi that came with the R400 ThinkPad no longer works. I went through the device manager and under properties it tells me, 'Device not working properly' however it is up to date.
Im Running Windows 8.1  64bit  Laptop Lenovo R400 ThinkPad

    Hi Matti,
    Thank you for replying back!
I suggest you to reinstall the Windows 8.1, as all the windows driver will not update, if you have upgraded the Windows 8 to Windows 8.1.
Please download Windows 8.1 separately and reinstall the OS, I hope this may resolve the issue.
Note: I am not suggesting for clean installation, only reinstalling the same OS.
Do not update the drivers from ThinkVantage system update utility. I suggest you to uninstall the current drivers and download the drivers manually for Windows 8.1 and install it.
Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download updates accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.

    Hope this helps!

  • 785GM-E51 BIOS problem after upgrading to Windows 8

Randomly (it seems) I can't enter my BIOS or use the F11 key to choose the boot device when starting or restarting my 785GM-E51 based system - but only running Windows 8 or 8.1.
Whenever I wipe Windows 8 off the drive and reinstall Windows 7 I have no problem ever, same when I used XP.  But When I upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1, much of the time (but not always) I can't enter the BIOS, nor is there that message at the bottom of the screen when booting up that says to press esc to enter the BIOS or F11 to select the boot device.  This happens whenever I use Windows 8 or 8.1 as the operating system.
I am currently running the latest BIOS, but this has happened with the 2 previous BIOS versions I reflashed as well.  Currently, the only way I can enter the BIOS is to reboot sometimes up to 10 times before I finally see that message at the bottom and then I can enter the BIOS, etc.
How could the operating system have this effect on the BIOS?
(Currently I have flashing disabled and also I password protect the whole system with a BIOS password.)
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Hello again and thanks for your reply,
If that 'Del or F11" message doesn't show up on the bottom line of the screen when restarting before the BIOS prompts me for my system password, you can't enter the BIOS at all, ever.  The MSI logo is disabled, but changing that doesn't do anything different either.  No matter how many times you press the Del key the BIOS often won't recognize it when the boot drive is Windows 8 or 8.1.  You have to reboot over and over (sometimes 10 or more times) until you see that message, then you know the BIOS will recognize the 'Del' key and you can go into the BIOS.  Interestingly, what sometimes works when this is happening, is to go into a Windows account, then restart or shutdown.  The next time you can usually (but not always) see that message and know you'll be able to enter the BIOS.
I've taken out the memory for another issue, but that didn't change anything.  I've tried changing from my DVI monitor cable to VGA (also for something unrelated) and that didn't do anything either. I installed a new graphics card, instead of using the AMD onboard graphics, and that didn't change anything either.
And to be clear, this only happens with Windows 8 or 8.1, not Window 7, XP, linux, etc.
What I do now is I have 2 SSDs, one with Windows 7, the other with Windows 8.1.  You can always press 'Del' or 'F11' before the BIOS password prompt appears when the Windows 7 SSD is the boot drive (the only drive).  But when you use the Windows 8.1 drive to startup (again the only drive), you have this problem much of the time.  And this has been happening since I upgraded to Windows 8 when it was released 2 years ago (8/2012), even trying different revisions of the BIOS firmware (last update 2/2011).

  • X230 Wi-Fi problems after upgrading to Windows 8 Pro

    Hi,
My X230 came installed with Windows 7 Pro and was working fine for several months. I upgraded my X230 (Intel Centrino Advanced n-6205) to Windows 8 Pro a few weeks back (10/27). The Wi-Fi was working fine for the first week or so. After that I enabled the Hyper-V on Windows 8 Pro and my networking problems started around the same time. Not sure if they are related but my wi-fi connection seems to have degraded dramatically over the past few weeks. At first it was slow then it started dropping connections and the it would not connect at all and I had to reboot. It is at a point now that it will not connect anymore. I have tried installing new drivers/removing and installing Intel PROset/rolling back drivers/Remvoing the hyper-V etc. All options seemed to work for a day or so. Right now the Wi-Fi doesn't work anymore. No fiddling around works. Very frustrating, how can I check if this is something related to Windows 8 or if it is related to Centrino. I'm *this* close to rolling back to Windows 7 and be done with this nonsense. I have about 10 devices in the house which connect fine to this wifi router.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Does your notebook have switchable graphics that worked i Windows 7?
The AMD graphics driver provides the audio while using an HDMI output.
You will need to install the AMD graphics driver in Windows 7 compatibility mode to resolve this.
The instructions on how to install Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode are here.
    Best regards,

  • IChat bandwidth problem after upgrading to Quicktime Pro 7.1

I just updated Quicktime Pro 7.1 (from 7.0) and applied the Security update to my iMac G5 1.8 GHz.
My girlfriend and I have been chatting with no problems. She's running an new iMac Dual Core and I have an iMac G5 running 10.3.9. We tried to hook up tonight and kept getting this error:
2006-05-11 21:41:51 -0400: There is insufficient bandwidth to maintain the conference.
Detected 48 kbps upstream and 162 kbps downstream bandwidth; 50 kbps required.
We're both on Cinti Bell's Fuse/Zoomtown ADSL so we have plenty of bandwidth. Set iChat bandwidth to None and st Quicktime to 1.5 Mbps T1/internet/LAN.
Any ideas why, after a month of no problems chatting, this bandwidth issue has come up? She's running 4.5 (hasn't upgraded and hasn't sone the just rreleased security update)?

OK - My gal is here for the weekend so it will be next monday evening before we can toubleshoot as I don't know any other place where I can find someone to video chat with for testing purposes. We're using AIM accounts, but like I say, before the upgrade I did it was working fine. I've been through most of the 'usual' from rebuilding permissions, diskwarrior to ensure the disk is OK. Next week I'll trash preferences and such when we troubleshoot.
I appreciate the response. If I find anything out I'll update this thread.

  • Keyboard problems after upgrade to iOS 8.02

has anyone else had problems with the keyboard obscuring the screen since upgrading to iOS   8.02?. I cant see what I'm typing.

    Hey Dizzy blue,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your iPad after updating to iOS 8.0.2. If you have not yet already done so, let’s try restarting or resetting your device:
If the issue persists after a restart, let’s see if we can isolate further by backing up and restoring your device as new:

After erasing and setting up as a new device, your device is now in a factory configuration. Test to determine if erasing and setting up as a new device resolved the issue. Content on the device may have caused unexpected behavior.
If the issue is still present, you may want to contact Apple Support.

  • WiFi problem after upgrading to Windows 8.1

So I have this problem since November 2013 after updating to 8 to 8.1
Right after updating to 8 to 8.1, all of a sudden my wifi stops working. I used my old Belkin external wifi usb drive and now I'm able to get the internet going.
However if I disconnect my Belkin usb I no longer get the internet because the wifi adapter that came with the H520 Desktop no longer works. I went through the device manager and under properties it tells me, 'Device not working properly' however it is up to date.
Anybody else had this problem and had it fixed?
    Solved!

    hi dudameister,

the hit on scan for Hardware Changes
Delete the driver again until it does not show you a check box for deleting driver software
            then Restart the computer.
    Now install this

  • ENVY 15 - 3040NR Brightness Adjust Problem After upgrade to Windows 8

I agree removing windows 8 is not a viable solution.  Also, the Windows 8 drivers have been released and they still don't fix the problem.

Hi, I also have a HP Envy 15-3040nr and cannot for the life of me get the brightness to adjust at all. I'm using the most recent drivers from dec 10, 2012 still nothing. It's bad enough you lock us out of advanced bios settings as far as clock and bus speeds go, but then you make us have to go through your website to get drivers that's already out of date on debut. No one pays $1200 for a laptop with dedicated graphics and expects to be unable to reduce brightness. Over the course of the time I have had this laptop and has released well over 10 updates yet your engineers have only produced 3 hp certified driver and 2 were based of the same build. What are you guys doing wrong that Asus, Lenovo, even dell can get this kind of thing right. We need real solutions for the amount of money involved not half-assed responses like " uninstall windows 8 and go back to windows 7 " . There has to be a engineer that actually cares enough to fix this !

  • NI IMAQ 1409 problem after upgrade to windows 7

Long time ago in my company a program was writtin for analysing PAL/NTSC camera's.
Unfortunately, the source code was lost, and all we have left is the executable.
We recently upgraded the PC to a new one with windows 7, but now the program will not run.
If we try to get images in NI-MAX, all is well.
I can select the .iid file and matching .icd file, and then grab or snap images.
But when I drive our program, it is not able to obtain images, and comes back with an error that it is not able to find the camera.
(Unfortunately no error code, as the error is caught and translated...)
As I cannot dive into the code, does anyone have any tips on how to get it running?

    Hello Arend,
Without access to the source code or the actual error this might prove to be quite difficult troubleshooting.
Can you provide me with a MAX Report?

This will allow me to check which software versions you are exactly running

    Hi,
You can also try to install the older version in compatible mode:
Windows 8.1 Wifi showing "limited" or "No Internet Access"
Solution: revert your network adapter driver back to an older version
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/dennis_schnell/archive/2013/08/31/windows-8-1-wifi-showing-quot-limitied-quot-or-quot-no-internet-access-quot.aspx
In addition, disable power management on your network driver:
    Open Network and Sharing Center.
Click the Change adapter settings link in the upper left of the navigation pane.
Right click the network connection you want to enable/disable power management support on and click Properties .
    Click Configure .
On the Power Management tab, clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.
