Re: Keyboard replacement on Satellite A100-528

Hi there. I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-528 and the keyboard is not working anymore. I found on ebay a keyboard from an Satellite L100 notebook and I want to know if that keyboard will fit on my notebook.
Waiting for your answer.
Thanks

From my knowledge the Satellite A100-528 was equipped with a 86 key spill-resistant keyboard.
The Satellite L100-194 was equipped with common 85key keyboard.
So both are different.
I would recommend you to purchase one which is released for especially for A100 series.

    >the problem is that i downloaded toshiba HW setup and i accidentaly set a password..
    >.not a user password....it's propably supervisor password or bios password...
Thats weird because the BIOS or Supervisor password can be reset only by an authorized service provider.
The BIOS password is a high security option which cannot be reset easily.
So ONLY ASP can remove a UNKNOWN password.

  • DVD drive replacement on Satellite A100-646

    Hi all,
I want replace the DVD drive on my laptop. (I have many problems never solved)
Do you know if exist a list of compatibility model for the A100-646?
    Model to suggest me?
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards
    Fabrizio

    Hi!
In your case I would only choose a DVD drive from the list of the user manual. Otherwise the drive could not work and/or recognized.
By the way, if you have lost your user manual you can download it on the Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
You can also look on eBay for a second hand drive. Maybe there you can find a good offer.

  • Hard drive replacement on Satellite A100-049

    Hi, thanks for reading.........
Recently my Toshiba Satellite laptop has given an error on booting about imminent hard drive failure, so I purchased a new drive of exactly the same make and model, WD Scorpio Blue, 320GB.
On installing the new drive the laptop beeps quickly several times over and sometimes boots to CD or sometimes just beeps until I power off.
I've tried the hard drive in another laptop and it works fine.
I've tried to use the Toshiba recovery CD to restore the laptop back to factory, but when Vista loads it errors with a message like 'This software is not configured for the hardware', or something?
I've installed Ubuntu 11.10 and that works great, except I get the beeping whenever I restart or power on the laptop.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as it's driving me nuts!
    Many thanks!
    Steve

I appreciate the sound is coming from the bios, I was just highlighting the fact that I know the actual hard drive is functioning as I can boot in to an operating system.
I've installed a different SATA drive and that was just an 80GB drive and that had the same problem, that works fine in the laptop it is from, but put it in the Toshiba and the beeps continue!
I don't have any other drives to hand, but I think I've tested enough. The current one is showing as failing, but boots OK with no beeping, the new 320GB drive boots OK into Linux but beeps like crazy and the 80GB drive boots into Windows XP but again beeps like crazy.
If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful, as it's driving me round the bend! :)
    Cheers,

  • How to get and replace a key on Satellite A100-522?

    Hey Toshiba.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-522 Model no. PSAA2E-01C01EED and one of my shift keys
has broken down under, so i cant use it (The small plastic bar to balance the key is broken
so the key "hangs". I can send it to repair under the guarentee, and ive talked to the
seller, but i dont have the time to send it for repairs (no replacement laptop meanwhile).
Is it possible to get a new key, and replace it myself? I know some other notebook producers do the same thing,
instead of using lots of time on the repairs, if they are this simple.

    Hi
Well, its very easy to replace the keycaps.
    Please check this thread:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=20727&messageID=76283
But if the whole key has broken you will need to replace the whole keyboard.
To remove the keyboard you have to remove the think plastic cover above the F keys.
Under this cover you will find 2 crews securing the keyboard
Remove the two screws and detach the flat keyboard cable which is connected to the motherboard.

  • One keyboard button is broken on Satellite A100-906

    Hi guys,
Few days ago i bought Satellite a100 906. As soon i got home, i found one keyboard button (the cap from the inner side) is broken (the M letter).
Is it possible to order the keyboard buttons separately or only the full keyboard ?
My local dealer said only full keyboard is avalible, but its just funny, that i should buy a new one keypad instead of one letter cap.

Generally if the button mechanism is broken the whole keyboard must be replaced but if only the keycap is damage it should be possible to order the single keyboard key caps.
The removing of the keycaps is not very tricky. Simply go under the keycap with the fingernail and remove the keycap.
But I assume the warranty is valid therefore the service partner should do it for free.

  • Can I replace the hard drive in my Satellite A100?

I have a Satellite A100-033 PSAANE, running Windows Vista Home Basic. The hard drive is 60G. I save virtually all my data onto an external hard drive, but even so the hard drive will eventually not have enough space for the growing number of programs which I have installed, the various temporary files, etc. For example, I would like to install VirtualBox and run XP ( Ido have a copy), plus Linux, and maybe some other operating systems, within it, but that is likely to eat up more hard disc space than I have available.
Does anyone know if it is possible to take out my existing hard drive and replace it with another one of a higher capacity? Is this possible?
I would have to reinstall Vista on the new drive, from the rescue disc which came with the PC. I don't mind doing this, but will Windows Vista be "recognised" when I try to install it on the new hard drive?
Sorry if these questions sound naive, but I don't know how to put a new hard drive into a laptop, or even if this is possible. I bought the Toshiba in February 2007, which was just after Vista had been released. I wasn't given the option of XP: Vista was the only operating system Toshiba provided at that point. I was assured that a 60G hard drive would be fine for Vista, but I do have to say that I feel I was wrongly advised, and that Toshiba should never have released a 60G machine for use with Vista. Hence my wish to have a hard drive with a bigger capacity.

Yes you can install a higher capacity HDD. I believe the A100 can take any size of SATA 2.5" HDD, so you should be able to install a 250GB or 320GB successfully.
As for Windows, you can reinstall it using the Toshiba Recovery Disc that came with the laptop.
    Instructions:
Remove the screw(s) from the HDD cover on the base of the laptop to access the HDD.
    Slide out the HDD
Transfer the HDD cradle/mounts to the new HDD
Slide in the new HDD and screw on the HDD cover.
Turn on the laptop and press F12 to access the boot menu.
Insert your Recovery Disc and choose the CD icon to boot from it.
Follow the prompts to install Windows.
Connect your original HDD to the A100 using a USB adapter to restore your files/documents.
ps. Remember to backup your important files regularly. HDD's can fail at any time since they have delicate moving parts, even when new.

  • Satellite U840-10U - keyboard replacement

Does somebody knows how to replace the keyboard to a satellite u840-u by myself? It looks to be just glued but don't know for sure. Also, my keyboard is not backlit, does it would be if replaced by one of the U series backlighted?

    Hi
As far as I know some Satellite U840 models has been equipped with backlight keyboard.
But from my knowledge the backlight keyboard requires additional power connector (CN20).
I guess not all U840 motherboards would support such connector and therefore the backlight keyboard upgrade would not be possible.
    Regarding the keyboard removal:
Yes I think the keyboard is pasted to top case by double adhesive. If you would disassemble the keyboard from the top case, the keyboard would deform and could not be used again.
In my opinion you should not try to remove anything. You would void the warranty and could damage other parts. I think such disassembling procedure should be done by authorized service engineer.

  • Re: Satellite A100-083 - Keyboard types letters automatically

    Hello
I am working with a Satellite A100-083, Windows XP SP2. Since about one month ago following problem shows up from time to time:
While typing in my browser or email-programm (both are by Mozilla) my computer types the letters "uit" turns the capslock on and opens new browser windows (about:blank, which is my startpage config.).
Of course this sounds like having a virus, trojan or sth. like that but after running some different antispyware and antivirus software, without solving the problem and nowadays without finding infected files. I tried to find something about a trojan who acts like this in the internet - just topics with the problem but without solutions or defining the trojan (if it is one). Beside this the problem isn't there the whole time. Sometimes it doesn't happen for about 2 days and returns after that.
Now I am wondering if it could be affected by some other source.
    Any ideas or similar cases?
    Thank you.

    Hi unfun,
I dont think its a virus problem. Why a virus should cause such an action?
At the moment for me it sounds like a keyboard malfunction and I would recommend testing another (external) keyboard. So you can make sure if the problem is software related or not. You can use an USB keyboard from your desktop computer to do this.
    Check this!!!

  • Satellite A100 - Display damaged, which PN can I use to replace it?

    Hi
I have a Satellite A100-151 (PSAA9A-01Z01DGR). The display is damaged. Which Part-Numbers can I use to replace it? Exact PN please. Thank you in advance

You can buy a display from the ASP in your country.
The guys could order compatible Satellite A100 parts directly from the Toshiba head stock.

  • Satellite A100-795 - Hard disk replacement

    Hi,
    I have a Satellite A100-795 (model: PSAANE-02D00JBT).
    HD = Toshiba MK1237GSX
HD can only be partly read with recovery software (Active@undelete) and makes bad noises too.
Wich SATA harddisk are possible and supported by the bios?
I want to avoid buying a disk which will niet work in the laptop.
Bios Version is 5.10 (Phoenix TrustedCore)
Thans in advance for any help.
    Regards,
    Leo

    Hello
Generally speaking on SATA interface there are no capacity limits anymore and that means you can buy every HDD that you want. Furthermore it makes no difference which BIOS version is installed, HDD upgrading is hardware based.
Anyway, just choose the new HDD that you want. Only important thing is SATA interface and I would recommend a model with 5400rpm if you dont play games. Higher rpm producing more heat, etc.

  • Can graphic card on Satellite A100-386 be replaced/upgraded?

    Hi all,
Having probably heat problem with my satellite a100, I ran to the point were the screen remains dark and ... no boot at all !
All was cleaned inside for the dust, thermal pate applied on the three places needed.
Some months ago, I put 2 RAM at 2Go to boost it a bit : it was fine till some days with instant shuts down after about an hour to the great end : no more boot with no bip, nothing on except the fan and the led power.
Opening it, I saw the thing near the fan that could be the video card which seems to be removable, pretty rare isn't it ?
If it's really remplaceable, do I have to find the exact same, nvidia geforce Go 7300 Tc, said on specs, or is there the possibility to put there a better card ?
As far as I know, one does not reserve an emplacement for a removeable part if there is no way with the others parts of the computer to change it (compatibility), unless it's for cost reasons...
    Thanks for help

    Thanks guys,
What about the probability to have an answer from the "official" repair service of toshiba as there's no more guarantee and the product discontinued ?
I found a card on ebay and on an another site, the possibility stands there, if needed !
I also was surprised with the no bip, and what do you mean by "it sounds as BIOS problem" ? motherboard dead ?
How to access to BIOS without screen ?
Can I try to power on with the gpu removed to test if bips come without crashing the motherboard ?
I apologize for my english french-thinked before written, due to the lack of practice !!
Is there a way to ensure which one, from the motherboard or the gpu is dead ?
HDD was tested several times on other computers and is ok, same for the RAM.
Could removing the CMOS-battery for some times can be helpful, in the case of gpu not faulty ?

  • Graphics upgrade for a Satellite A100-163

    Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the graphics in the Toshibe Satellite A100-163. In the specifications on this website, it states that it is connected by the new PCI Express x16 bus, does this mean that it is infact a seperate graphics card in my laptop that at a later date I would be able to upgrade?
    Thank you for your help,
    M_Taylor40

I was wondering if this is one of the new laptop motherboards with a PCI express card connected through a PCI Express port tho, as you can now get laptops that have a PCI express port for future graphics card upgrade. I know that a standard desktop card would not go in a laptop, but laptop graphics cards are beginning to appear but they are still quite expensive and hard to get.
Just under the speficiations of this laptop, the graphics bus is the PCI Express x16, and I just wanted to know if this was either the graphics where of the built-in adapter type which was connected through the PCI Express x16 bus, or that it was in fact a seperate graphics adapter that was connected to a PCI Express x16 port. As if it was the port version, then technically the existing graphics card could be removed and replaced with another card.

  • Compatible Battery for Satellite A100-204

I can't find any replacement battery for my Toshiba satellite A100-204 Laptop. The original battery is a 4 cell recycable Li-ion PA3451U-1BRS. Everytime i look for this battery in google i only find it for the Toshiba M40.
It allmost looks the same but i am not sure if it is. Problem with my battery is that it gets empty after one hour, and i need more hours ;-).Everything is still new though (got it last weekend), is this normal for a 4 cell battery?
I would like a battery wich lasts longer, 8 cell or higher if there is. But i dont know wich ones are compatible and dont know how to look for it (actually i do. I aint no noob and allways find my stuff, but this doesnt work out the way i search). Looks like the laptop is a bit rare......
Please help me find one that will fit, and be sure of it :-D.
(Btw, I live in The Netherlands, if that might matter for finding the battery nearer.)
    Greets JK

    Hi
I have investigated a little bit and it seems that these batteries packs are compatible:
    PA3399U-2BRS(6cell)
    PA3399U-2BAS(6cell)
    PA3478U-1BRS(9cell)
    PA3478U-1BAS(9cell)
    PA3400U-1BRS(12cell)
    PA3400U-1BAS(12cell)
The charger time of the 6cell and 9cell batteries is about 4houers and the charging time of 12cell batteries is about 5houers
Hope it helps a little bit.

Consider me as 1 of the thickie bunch.. Not even sure wot im talkin bout but here goes n e way...........
    Have a Satellite A100 570 ( PSAA2E)..........
Have tried several different online sites lookin for memory upgrade. Didn't have the witt to use toshiba site...... Ended up going with Crucial.........
Ran diagnostic on laptop and was sent the module a needed.or so i thought....... wrong 1 or 1s as i bought 2 x 1G modules in order to " double up".....
Got my money back as they were not compatable with my system.. something to do with density problems....
Tried company called OFFTEK........ they seemed to know what they were talkin about....... I have from Offtek. at present a..........
200 Pin 1.8v DDR2 PC2-4200 SoDimm....... but Toshiba have recommended below......

    Part Number: PA3411U-2M1G
    1024MB (1GB) Memory PC2-4300 DDR2 (533MHz)
Theres an obvious difference ...... 4200 and 4300. But im not sure if its a significant difference........... or what it means
Have updated bios to most recent version and basically updated everything toshiba had to offer for this model...........
Ran EVEREST and it recognises the 1G module but when i take out the original 512mb module the laptop starts for about 3 seconds then shuts down...
this repeats about 5 times then complete shutdown.....
I dont like opening the back cover too often but this is the 3rd module ....
Not sure whats meant to happen if the module is working...i.e start up message..not sure if windows recognises 1G module....
Would it be safer bet to send Offtek module and stick with toshiba option.....
    Thanks in advance.....

Cheers R2........ suppose at this stage i could start rhyming off a load of star wars lines but uve probably hears them all before.......
N e way......... checked out the link u posted..........very useful......
The module described is identical to what i have.............As with previous reply ( above ) im not sure what to do.........might take up Offteks offer of replacing the module but slightly concerned it might have same outcome......Still not happy bout opening the cover so much........nut needs must i suppose
