Re: Laptop sleeve for Satellite L500-1DT

I recently bought a laptop sleeve advertised as suitable for the l500-13z assuming it would fit my l500-1dt. It is slightly too small and when I zipped it up, the zip broke. It could be that the internet shop I bought it from gave me the wrong size but either way it seems the dimensions of the l500 are slightly larger than other 15.6 laptops.
Has anyone bought a sleeve that fits theirs? Is it perhaps worth going for 17" sleeve instead?
Thanks.

Hi
In my opinion you should contact the shop where you bought the sleeve. Normally Satellite L500-13Z and L500-1DT have the same dimensions because I have checked the specification on the Toshiba website. So I assume that you did get the wrong sleeve.
I think if you contact the shop and explain the situation you will get a new sleeve for free and I doubt that you need a sleeve for 17 notebooks because L500 is 15.6.
Good luck! :)

  • Satellite L500-1dt asks for product key

    Hi
just got my new laptop Satellite L500-1dt T3000 4gb
However its now asking me for the product key...
Where do I find this please... as you can guess I'm new to all this tech stuff.....

    Hi
    What?
I dont understand why the Windows is asking for serial key
I mean the preinstalled OS has been activated already.
Are you using the Toshiba preinstalled OS?
Try to recover it again using the HDD recovery procedure.
You need to press F8, then choose Repair my Computer and then choose Toshiba HDD recovery.
Then follow the instruction on the screen.

  • Satellite L500-1DT: HDD Recovery of Win 7 is stuck in endless reboot loop

This is a detailed bug report so please bear with me.
If you can help, or can confirm you've had the same happen to you, I'll be grateful.
I've owned several Toshiba laptops before and I even used to work for Toshiba so rest assured I like the machine. But I've got a problem with its recovery software. I just bought a laptop, Satellite L500-1DT with Windows 7 64 bit, on behalf of a non-techie who lives elsewhere. Since I know from experience that I will occasionally have to field panic calls along the lines of "it's become too slow", "how do I get rid of the accumulated junk", "maybe it's got a virus" and so on, the first thing I checked was the automatic recovery, i.e. how to bring the HD back to "as new" state.
So I booted into the machine, answered the questions until I got into the OS proper, and then ran the "make a recovery DVD" program. Double layer DVD verified ok. With the freshly made DVD, I swapped the supplied HD for a spare I had (much smaller: only 40 GB instead of 320) and booted the rescue DVD hoping that it would remake me a clean system on the blank drive.
It did repartition the drive according to its scheme, with more or less half the space for Windows and the other half for Data including the recovery files. It did install the system in the Windows partition. It then rebooted into the installed Windows 7 to finalize the installation. There, trouble began: an endless loop of reboots for hours until I stopped it.
    Loop:
    * reboot
    * black screen with bright 4-colour windows logo "starting windows"
    * black screen with light blade and "setup is preparing your computer for first use"
    * blue "welcome" white screen with "please wait" and horizontal bar with green blob, saying "Finishing the installation may take several minutes. Please dont interrupt or shutdown the computer!"
    * blue screen saying it's shutting down
    Repeat the above forever.
I have seen it reboot way over 10 times over the course of several hours. And every time it pretends it's the first time it does that. Surely that's not normal!
I tried stopping it with ctrl-alt-del and task manager but the white screen would go on top of even the task manager, making it hard to kill any processes or even inspect what they were. I stopped it by holding down the power button until it switched off. Then when it rebooted it said if I wanted safe mode. I tried that. It went into the routine above and at some point it said it couldn't proceed with the installation if it was in safe mode. So it rebooted into regular mode and then... finished! It finally broke out of the endless loop!
Then it asked me all the usual questions about language, registration etc, as it had done the first time I had turned it on. This seemed good. I finally got back into a newly installed OS and all seemed fine, except I later discovered that some programs that were there before were not installed.
With bravery bordering stupidity (*) I even re-did the procedure on the supplied hard disk instead of my spare one: first I nuked the windows partition, then I did rescue from the HD (with F8), not with the DVD I had made. Result: similar rigmarole, with endless reboots.
After I stopped it, it sort-of-worked, as above, but now some other programs were missing, notably the Toshiba DVD player.
(*) motivated by: better try this now, with the computer here and all my tools and other computers ready at hand, than when the computer is away at its owner's home and that's the only thing left to try with me at the other end of a phone line. Been there before.
Now, that specific one (DVD player) I could download from the support page and it installed fine; but what else might be missing or not working that I didn't notice? Clearly the restore process isn't working as it should.
Am I the first or only one to whom this happens? Am I doing anything wrong? Is there anything else I should try?
I need to make sure this restore procedure works flawlessly while I still have the computer in my hands. If it doesn't, there's no chance I'm going to be able to do a remote reinstall for my non-techie once I am asked to clean up the laptop over the phone a few months from now.
    Thanks in advance
[Update: while looking for the right place where I could post this I found that other people are reporting the same problem. It's definitely a bug in the distributed recovery software for W7-64, not an isolated problem of my machine. See for example
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=49421&tstart=0 where user kwarc is describing the same symptoms with a Satellite L505.

I am glad to report some unexpected SUCCESS!
I left the computer at what it was doing when I wrote the previous
post. I came back to it an hour later or so (I had stopped counting
the reboots, though occasionally I'd hear that typical chime from the
other room, saying it was doing one more cycle) and I noticed
something slightly different: the white screen with "finishing the
installation may take several minutes" had a blue blob, not a green
blob, in the progress bar, and the blob was rectangular rather than
rounded. Very odd! Something different had happened, like a change of
theme. And a little while after that, the process really finished and
I got to the white screen that asks about what language etc etc, like
when I first turned on the new computer.
    Great!
All I can conclude from this experience:
Even a reinstall that works will DEFINITELY involve many reboots that
seem to be getting nowhere. Apparently, progress is being made, even
though it looks like the process is stuck in a loop of reboots.
It would just be nice if it said something like "Before I finish
restoring, I'm going to have to reboot 26 times, please hang on; now
doing cycle 8 of 26". (Numbers are made up.) It doesn't, but just
    knowing about it is helpful.
Perhaps worth redoing the install once more and making a note of how
long it really takes from beginning to end when it does work.
I still don't know if the process I described in the first post was
really stuck because of some other error or whether it would have
ended eventually. If I wanted to be really sure I could re-restore
everything on that hard disk once more.
I have no idea whether wiping all partitions from the disk before
reinstalling did any good or not: it shouldn't have made a difference
since, as I said, I noticed that the first thing the restore program
did was redo all the partitions itself. On the other hand we have
experimental proof that the restore can work on a HD without any
    partitions.
Thanks again PauPau---the most useful thing you said, for me, was the
data point that for you it had worked. That's what made me try again
and leave the computer on indefinitely through the innumerable
    reboots, just in case.
I'll repost a definitive answer on how long a successful restore
process should take once I get round to redoing it on the supplied 320
    GB HD.

  • Satellite L500-1DT won't start

    Hi
My Satellite L500-1DT laptop won't start it goes into the start-up repair procedure automatically viewing the diagnostic and repair details it says it cannot determine what the problem is.
If I select the advanced options I am asked to select a key board but then I get a message that says you must logon on to gain access to the repair functions and all I can do then is reboot.
If I press F8 and try safe mode I just get the same repair features. I don't know what to do to proceed as all the options take me to the same place. Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

When you press F8 at start up can you see option Repair my computer?
    Have you created recovery DVD?

  • Poor wireless connection reported on Satellite L500-1DT (Win 7 - 64bit)

    Hi there,
Hopefully someone might be able to help me with this problem. I brought a L500-1DT for my eldest daughter for Christmas (and birthday) but I am having problems with the connection to my wireless router. From her bedroom (about 10 meters away) she is luckly to get a reception of 3 bars (out of five) and is getting wireless drop outs. This means that MSN drops out at a critical moment...well she is only 16 so everything on MSN is critical.
At first I thought that it was the old wireles router (my wife has problems with her IBM laptop and the other kids their Acer laptop) so I got a new Belkin N (150) router. This seems to have solved the problem with the non Toshiba laptops but there are still issues with the L500-1DT. If I have the Toshiba laptop in the same room as the router I get 4 bars (out of 5) at best.
I have checked to make sure that there are no newer driver updates and checked all the settings (more than once) and I am at a loss as to what I should do now. Is the laptop faulty or have I missed something?
    Regards,
    The Build Master

    > If I have the Toshiba laptop in the same room as the router I get 4 bars (out of 5) at best.
4 of 5 is not bad mate.
    It's ok...
But if you want you can check if an new BIOS is available for this notebook model...
If yes you can try to update it.
Furthermore you can try to change the WLan channel. The router and Wlan card should be set to the same channel.
In device manager -> Wlan card properties -> Advanced tab you can change some settings.

  • Need Utilities (Fn buttons) for Satellite L500-1CF

Im using Toshiba Satellite L500-1CF, and want to use FN button, but it was disable.
I had been looking for utilities driver on the Toshibas web, but I can't find it that support for my model. So help me.
    Waiting for u.
    Thanks so much.

    Hello
Your notebook has part number PSLS0E so you must use it to find right drivers, tools and utilities on Toshiba download page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
I dont know which OS do you use but your notebook is supported for Win7 32 and 64bit.
For FN keys functionality you must install TOSHIBA Flash Cards support utility at first and then TOSHIBA Value Added Package.
If you have more questions let us know.

  • Creating Win 7 64bit Recovery Disc for Satellite L500-19x?

    My new Satellite L500 - 19X came pre-installed with Win 7 - 64 bit version.
Also included was a "Product Recovery Win 7 32 bit" disc
Within the packaging was a leaflet saying:
"If you plan to use the 64-bit version at a later stage, please create a _recovery medium_ prior to installing 32-bit Windows 7"
It then cautions me to create a "64 bit recovery medium.....ordering a 64-bit recovery medium is not free of charge"
The manual goes on at length about "_System Recovery Options_" As instructed in the manual I have made a "Repair Disc Windows 7 64-bit" Am I correct in saying that I do not or cannot have an actual Win 7 64-bit disc?
The leaflet says "a backup copy (of the Win 7 64-bit) is stored on the hard disk drive as a _recovery image_" So is this the actual Win 7-64-bit complete disc that I am after, and if so how do I get it?
The Toshiba documentation is not clear, and I believe rather contradicts itself?
I am confused! Anyone understand what's going on?
    JohnF.

My confusion is because I don't understand what "recovery disc" means?!
On the "Dear Customer" flyer entitled "+Choosing your Windows 7 Architecture+" that came with the machine it states:-
"+A backup copy of the system (64 bit version) is stored on the hard disk drive as a recovery image+" This is what I don't understand, as I have already made a "+repair disc Win 7 64-bi+t" as well as having the "+Product recovery Win 7 - 32-bit" cd+" This cd seems to be the complete Windows disc, unless I am mistaken.
I guess what I am getting at is do I have complete Win 7 - 64-bit in case of total failure of the machine ? (I am asking the question because you often used to get a full Windows disc with a new computer in the old days)
Does this make it any clearer? Thanks for everyone's help

  • Bluetooth setup failure for Satellite L500

    Greetings,
I just purchased a brand new Toshiba Satellite L500 yesterday. Everything is fine except fo the bluetooth. When I enable it using the FN key, the Vista Auto Setup automatically launches and the installation bar moves slightly and "new device inserted" sounds off and then "device removed" sounds off shortly after it, and then installaion is halted, I waited long but nothing seems to be happening, when I click on cancel, it prompts me that the setup is still running while it is not.
Shall I take my device to the service center or is there any solution I can do it on spot to resolve this issue?
    Appreciate your kind assistance.
    Thank you
    Regards, Adel Kooheji

    >Shall I take my device to the service center or is there any solution I can do it on spot to resolve this issue?
I dont think that you should contact the service center at this time
I mean the guys will try to reinstall the OS using the Toshiba recovery disk and I think you can do this too without the help from service people.
So if you want, try to recovery the OS and check if you BT would start again.
PS: your should create the Recovery disk using the preinstalled Toshiba recovery disk creator tool!!!

  • Need a specific driver for Satellite L500 11V

Hi, I have reinstalled my OS Windows 7.
I have already got some drivers in the download section but I cant find the driver for FN keys. They all work although without displaying the control bar in the upper part of the screen which I don't mind at all - but with one exception: the Wifi on/off toggle. And that is why I need the software which I hope will solve the problem.
Does anyone know what driver it is and tell me the name or post a link to download it?
    Thanks, Josef

Hi, thank you both guys, Josef here (had to register again with different ID).
OK, I installed the Toshiba Value Package and I was sure it was the right driver, but now the FN keys wouldn't work at all and the panel won't appear either. Before installation the FN keys did work except the wifi toggle which was and still is fortunately activated. I even made sure that the keys weren't disabled in settings for flash cards. So now I'm going to uninstall the package..

  • DC02000S800 cable replacement for Satellite L500-128

    Hello everyone,
I'm looking for a DC02000S800 cable because mine is broken. I get green colors on my screen etc. Does anyone know where I can find it for a reasonable price? If I have to buy it in a local shop, it's around 100 dollars. Much too much for such a cable.
    Thanks in advance

'They' are all the people at ebay. No one at ebay sells the cable I'm looking for.
Maybe i'm just going to buy it in a local store for an unrealistic price.
Is there anyone who can say me where I have to put the cable so it doesn't get broken again? how should the cable be led throug the notebook?

  • Need installations CD for Satellite L500-245

Hello, I hope some one can help.
The computer is of my brother and he lost the installation cd and we need it to reinstall windows and all the features. I hope some one can help us.
    thanks!

    > we need it to reinstall windows and all the features. I hope some one can help us.
The question is what you want to do exactly. You can do this using original Toshiba recovery image or using Microsoft installation disc.
    Toshiba recovery image:
It contains operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tools and utilities ad some additional software. Please note: after recovery image installation Windows must not be activated.
    Microsoft OS:
After installing OS using original Microsoft disc you must activate preinstalled version. This cannot be done using product key from the sticker at the bottom of your notebook and you must pay the licence.
Al necessary drivers, tools and utilities must be installed manually one by one and it can be pretty complicated if you dont know how to do this.
My recommendation: if you dont have Toshiba disc order one and use it for OS installation. It is cheapest and also simplest way to install and configure OS.

  • Satellite L500-1DT - HDD recovery Windows 7 64bit installation fails

When starting 64-bit version of win 7 cmd.exe script faile due to following error
ERROR could not move v:\_IMG\10185xsP*.swm to v:\HDDRecovery\SWImg
Duplicate file of file already exists.
    Has anyone had similar error?
This happens when installing Win 7 as a first time startup

    Hello amck
To be clear: Either HDD recovery works or not. You cannot rename something in hope it will works.
The whole thing is Toshiba specific procedure and designed for each notebook model separately.
If you lose this Repair my computer option in Advanced boot options (F8) you have big a problem.
Only thing you can do now is to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and explain the situation in hope you will get new recovery DVD for free or you must order new one under https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • Satellite L500-1DT - Selectively plays back DVD disks

    Hi,
My DVD device all of a sudden only selectively plays back DVD disks (movies & music). I have validated the Region settings. All disks tested are compatible to this region and work on other media. The driver version: 6.1.7600.16385.
The only software recently installed was iTunes (64bit, Windows 7 compatible) - DVD playback still worked fine after installation.
Music CD's still work 100% as do some DVD's.
    Thanks,

    Hey Ironman69,
    > The only software recently installed was iTunes
When such CD/DVD related software is installed, they install filters into registry, which can cause compatibility problems.
That means you should remove the upper- and lowerfilters in Windows registry as you can read here:
