Re-link/pin audio to a different clip

I have a sequence of video clips which go to music. The sequence is complete, with the audio timing working with all the clips.
Now, I want to swap the positions of two clips. The problem is that the audio track, happens to be pinned to one of these video clips. If I move one of the clips, they swap perfectly, except the audio shifts as well because it moves with the clip its pinned to. Besides manually moving the audio back to where it should be, is there a way to leave the audio alone when I do this?
I imagine it would be an easy fix if I could simply re-link the audio to a different video clip first. However, I can't find any feature along these lines. The audio seems stubbornly locked to the one clip its originally pinned to.
Thanks in advance, I'm sure there's an option to do this somewhere.

If I understand correctly, you have video clips in the primary storyline, and an audio clip connected to one of those clips.
It is easy to keep everything in sync and change two clips.
All you have to do is change the connection point of the audio clip. This is done by command-option clicking the audio clip at the desired connnection point.
Another easy way to do this is to hold down the grave key ` when dragging the clips that you want to switch.
FWIW, in this type of project it is probably better to put the audio in the primary storyline and connect the video to the audio - optionally making the video into a secondary storyline.

  • How do you link two audio clips to one video clip?

    Hi guys,
I want to think multiple audio clips to one video clip and aint know how to do it! I found this page on Adobe knowledge base:-
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/3.0/help.html?content=WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b 1038518aef7-7f40.html
It says you can do it but I don't think it explains how? Can anyone provide me with the simple steps required to link two audio clips to one video clip? Many thanks.

Do you mean manual syncing? I've been reading this thread about workaround, which aren't working for me: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/344/21236
But the question they are asking is the same one I am asking. Isn't this a typical situation, having multiple mics for one camera? For example, if someone filmed a concert with one camera but used both the camera audio, and ambient mic, and a mix from the board, then that would be 3 audio tracks with 1 video track. I'm in a similar situation, and I'm finding it hard to believe that FCPX isn't equipped to edit this way. There must be some way to get one video clip (with reference audio) to sync with four audio tracks.

  • Is it possible to add two different audio tracks to a clip which can be selected separately in the final clip?

I'm trying to edit a short clip with two different audio tracks (audio in two different languages). The tracks are not supposed to overlap but rather should be able to be selected individually in the final clip. Do I need special software or is iMovie actually able to accomplish that?

I seriously doubt that this is possible. I think when you get this kind of option on a DVD, the audio and video streams are encoded separately and you run the language of your choice by choosing it from a menu.

  • Error message 'the selected file cannot be linked because it has 2 audio channels and the clip was created with 1 audio channel'

Can anyone help with the error message I'm getting 'the selected file cannot be linked because it has 2 audio channels and the clip was created with 1 audio channel'. I had to move the footage to another folder and now am unable to link it - just getting this error message instead.... Has anyone had to deal with this before?
    Thank you!

  • Audio missing from Merged Clips

Okay, editing a feature film on Premiere CC.  Just imported a project into my working project that contained the merged clips I created using my video (Red footage) and 2nd source audio.  Files had been all renamed in Premiere to match scene/shot numbers.  Kept only the merged clips, deleted everything else from working project folder, as I had for all the other clips that work perfectly fine.  Edited the new clips last night, working perfectly.
Reopened project this morning to continue working, and now all of the clips have dead tracks as in no audio.  The actual tracks are there, but there's no sound.  I doubled clicked on just the audio track in the clip in the sequence and it's red in my source window.
    How can I fix this?

I'm using the same workflow and reproduced the bug in 7.2.1. The issue is cut & paste of the merged clip.
After merging audio and video clips I would select the newly merged clip in the project bin, hit cut, select a different bin, and hit paste. The merge clip gets moved to the new bin, but also gets corrupted. From now on, the merged clip is missing audio information. When placed on the timeline, audio tracks are colored red and show no wavefrom. Even "Link media" can't properly associate the merged clip with the audio again.
To reproduce the bug, It's not necessary to delete the original clips that were merged, nor is it necessary to save and reload the project. After cutting & pasting the merged clip is damaged immediately.
Easiest workaround for now is to use drag & drop to move the merged clips to a different bin. That does not corrupt the files.
Hopefully a staff member can notice this thread and report the bug to development.

  • How to autmatically link SMPTE audio to video?

I'm looking into audio and video options for a documentary and could use some help here. Right now I'm looking at getting a couple the HVX200s and possibly a Edirol R-4 Pro. I've done a few searches here and on many other sites, but I don't really understand how you link the audio to the video in a setup like this. A long time ago I thought I read there was an automatic way to do this so you wouldn't have to point each video clip to its corresponding audio clip. I have read about Sebsky tools, but that seems to be for film rather than a video set up like this.
So, is there a way to quickly a easily do this? We'll be shooting a lot of material for possibly a year or so we'lll need something quick and reliable. Also, would it pose a problem to FCP that the R-4 Pro will have 4 tracks of audio?
Thanks ahead of time for any help!

It can work with cameras that accept external timecode. The camera's you've piced don't have this feature. They can be synced to each other only as far as I know.
Panny makes a stepup camera from this that does accept external TC coming. They showed it at NAB... http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=O &storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=97602&catGroupId=14616&modelNo=AJ-HDX900&s urfModel=AJ-HDX900
Gotta say though it's not P2, but it is HD... That's actually part of the beauty of the 200. They don't make another P2 HD camera either. also doesn't sport the cinemodes that the 200 does.
But ya know? this may well be the least expensive HD camera that accepts external TC...
Your idea of running the 4 channels to the cameras is very inventive. I'd do that in a heartbeat as long as you can stand the setup you'll need to monitor this audio at all times. You'll want a mixer around for sure. And sure saves about 40,000 bucks. eh?
You going to shoot 2 camera all the time?

  • On iMovie how can you mute a section of the sound track so you can hear the audio from the video clip?

    .

    Hey,
If you double-click on the soundtrack you can open it up in the inspector tab and lower the soundtrack so that you can hear the audio from the video clip.
A great resource for finding answers to questions like this is http://www.imovietutorialhelp.com
You can ask questions just like these and they will be answered for you. If you need a tutorial video made or anything like that, you can go there as well and ask for a video to made as well. Check it out.
If you still have questions on how to do this, they can help you for sure.

  • How to extract audio from a video clip

I am editting a video, and I need to extract the audio from a video clip. On the old iMovie it was really easy, all you had to do was press apple K I think. Thanks in advanced for your help.

Select the clip in the sequence.
Then command-L to unlink the clips.
Then select the audio and delete.
    As a suggestion, two things:
    1. Explain what you want to do. If it is delete the audio, then that is different than extracting the audio;
    2. Do a search in the pdf manual in the help manual

  • Resyncing audio in a captured clip

I have captured two long (?50 min) clips via my Panasonic DV camera from two different tapes. One tape captures fine. The other tape gives me audio out of sync errors after I capture it (I've tried capturing it twice, both with the same error)
How can I manually resync the audio in my clip without putting it into a Sequence? (It will be used as a Angle 2 in a multiclip)
The manual mentions adjusting the sync in subframes. But my sync is off by a second or so.
Can I fix this in the clip viewer? Or will I have to put it in a sequence, adjust the sync, then re-render it out as a Quicktime movie, and import that movie in order to use it in a Multiclip?

Unfortunately, the off-sync clip contains the master audio track for both clips.
Is there a better way to slip the audio than how I'm doing it?
I'm locking the video track and sliding the audio tracks left and right. But even at the highest zoom factor in the Sequence, it seems to snap at 6 frame increments. I've never had to do this before and I am embarassed at my inexperience with audio.

  • No audio Playback on certain clips?...

The last two clips of people talking of my FCP video do not playback. I had voices talking over music and the music still plays back in these parts but not the other audio. Audio plays back in the viewer. I have tried deleting the clip and re-dragging it into the timeline , I have also tried different clips ...none work.

I actually figured it out for anyone having a similar issue.....i think!
If you look at the item properties and it says MONO instead of RIGHT LEFT ...you need to double click on the audio clip and make sure both LEVEL and PAN are set at "0"
This fixed my problem so far

I have a project on Imovie with pinned audio to the project. I want to know how to stretch the audio to a specific point of the song?

See this Tutorial for how audio works in iMovie. In general, you drag the left or right edge of your audio clip.
You can also use the Clip Trimmer. Click the Gear icon in the music track and select the Clip Trimmer.

  • Linking Up Audio Channels

    Forum,
How can I link two audio channels from the same clip together so that I don't have to make two identical separate edits?
    Trey

    Hi Trey,
Under the menu item Multitrack there is Group tracks and Group enable.
Group tracks will take any selected tracks and group their volume faders so that when you move one it moves all of them relatively. Group enable suspends any grouped tracks if it is off.
Grouping has no effect on editing, there is no way to group items so that an edit affects more than one track.
You should investigate the menu Help>Soundtrack Pro User Manual, it is searchable and has answers to most of your questions. Type in "group" and you would have lots of information. It would save me having to look it up for you

  • Nur den Audio-Teil eines Video-Clips noch einmal verwenden

Möchte den Audio-Teil eines Video-Clips noch einmal verwenden und diesem Audio-Teil dann ein Standbild zufügen. Wer kann mir hier helfen?

    Gerhard Becker
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
In the absence of that information, I will generalize.
    1. You right click a copy of the Timeline file with the video and audio linked and then select Delete Video from the pop up.
    2. Then you drag your Still Image to the Timeline and align it with your audio file.
You can leave that still audio positioning as is or "Group" the two so that they move together (if you want to move them together).
For that, select/highlight the still and audio portions (hold down Shift and click video portion and then audio portion), right click in the selection, and select Clip Menu/Group from the pop up.
Please let us know if that generalized answer works for you. If not, more details please.

  • Audio issues with different types of sound cards

For some reason different clips in Final Cut Pro are barely hearable depending on the audio card. The better speaker systems do fine but the basic set up can't play the clip without losing half the sound. This is a school broadcast so please let me know as simple as you can Thanks

    Hi WildcatPubs,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
What camera model are you working with?  Does it have 5.1 Surround Sound?
Can you provide some additional details about the type of audio system you're using to play back that doesn't sound loud enough in Final Cut Pro X?  Are you playing back directly from the Mac's built-in speakers or connecting to a set of headphones or speakers?
Have you adjusted the volume level and playback device in System Preferences so that other applications have sufficient audio level?

  • Problems with a lightning adapter - connecting my iphone 5 to a 30-pin audio cable in my car.

Randomly, the audio stops recognizing my connection to my car stereo via a 30-pin audio cable connected to my iphone 5 via a lightning adapter. It switches to the internal speaker and I have no idea how or why. It resolves itself just as unpredictably. I cannot replicate these conditions predictably. I have tried another lightning connector and a different audio cable. Due to damage, I also recently changed to a new iphone 5. The problem still exists. It appears to be related to the connector or iOS. Is anyone else having this problem?

Your case designer should have done their homework .
They would have full details of the iPhone and its accessories
assuming they are a developer status
