Re-Linking EXS Sampler Instruments & Samples

1 - Curious what you think of this concept:
I have an external drive that I'd like to be able to move to several computers and use as my samples drive. To keep things consistent, I thought it best to keep BOTH EXS Sampler Instruments & Samples on this drive. Then I can just create aliases of the EXS Sampler Instruments and drop them in the main logic support folder. That way I can easily just move the drive to either computer for the greatest flexibility.
Is this ok to do? Is there a better way?
2 - I'd like to re-link many EXS Sampler Instruments to their samples. I used to use the ExsManager Pro.app but that stopped working a while back. Is there another way to have logic do all the re-linking instead?

I highly suggest that you contact Redmatica and get an update to get it working again.

  • EXS send to sampler warning.

    OK, *LARGE WARNING*
For those of you using the new "send to sampler option" a lot, make sure when saving that you have the assets/ *copy EXS instruments to project folder* and *copy EXS samples to project folder* selected.
I've just pulled up two projects from last week and the "*send to sampler*" instruments samples have completely disappeared, including a six hour cutting up old breaks for my library session which I hadn't transferred to my main EXS library yet.
    Good lord.
Those options have since been selected and it seem to be OK.
But we will see... said the blind man.

Well yeah, I know I can do it this way, but that's loads of steps.
What I thought, or rather what I though would have been possible as a "Send to sampler" option, would have been an auto convert transients to individual regions and save as individual regions in a designated file, before automatically loading those sample back to the EXS.
Then I could have saved and indexed those instruments in my main library, not some useless virtual nonsense that is impossible to keep track of. Like I would do with a real physical sampler.
I though that's what the transient feature would have been.
I guess my expectations of this feature were just too good to be true.
Never mind, maybe next year eh.
I give you 5 brownie point for the sentiment though.

  • Can't see my own sampler instruments or presets in 64 bit version.

If I load up 9.0.0, I can see all my own presets and sampler instruments. But they are not showing up in 9.1.
I have searched and seem to be the only one with this?
    anyone else?
    Keefy

I was using Logic 9.0.2 before I upgraded to 9.1. After installing the update it has left me with 2 versions. I now have 9.1.1. which is called Logic Pro, and I also have another Logic which was automatically created and labeled Logic 9.0.0. I have checked and it is 9.0.0. (1660.11).
The problem that I have is with the 9.1.1. not seeing my presets and sampler instruments. Not in 64bit mode or 32bit mode.
** Just managed to sort it!
All of my Sampler Instruments/Samples are on a separate drive and are aliased. It looks like the 9.1.1. version looks in the Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support for the Logic Folder with all the settings. So I have aliased all individual folders (ie Bass, Piano, Synth) as apposed to the sampler Inst folder and it works!
I take it that it no longer references to the home (user/libary/application support/Logic) for Insts & Plug in settings.
    Phew!
Okay, cheers all and back to work I go ! ! ! !

  • Scanning Of Exs Sampler Instruments

i don't remember if this function is still in logic but it would scan all my ext hardrives for samples for sampler instruments so it would then be able to find them faster. right now its showing i have multiple samples of certan instruments and want to get that a little more roganized
    thanks

Completely unrelated question, but I had found a previous thread where you had converted an older Logic file for the Yamaha S90 synthesizer into a newer file that would work in Logic 8 but the link to that file is now broken. Any chance you could reconvert and repost?
The original file link (in the older Logic format) is at http://files.keyfax.com/download/S90Object.LSO
    Thanks much in advance....

  • EXS' Sampler Instrument Count Limitation

    Hello everyone,
Does anyone happen to know of a workaround/ solution to EXS' sampler instrument count limitation? I find myself constantly shuffling instruments and libraries in and out of the Sampler Instruments folder, a process which, given my 1TB library, is tedious and extremely time consuming.
Any "magic fixes" or insights would be highly appreciated..
    Thanks!

    Some clarifications:
I have been running EXS Manager, Pro Ed from the get-go.
Once again, my complaint is NOT regarding slow load times (which, believe me, is grounds for a whole separate post); rather the inability to access instruments altogether. In other words: past a certain, specific instrument down the list, others would simply no longer load. They are visible in the EXS menu, but are flat out "ignored" by the sampler.
Additionally, I have tried re arranging them using sub-folders, but to no avail: The Sampler Instruments folder seems to only be able to handle so many instruments.
    Anyone else..?

  • Sampler Instruments Folder in Root or User to put additional exs files

is it best to keep all sampler instruments in Root folder? i notice thats where it installs the origional ex samples and instruments. but i have converted giga and akai as well as other exs sample instruments i made. is it ok to put them all in the root or are they supposed to go in User/ sampler instruments or does it matter?
    thanks

You can put them anywhere, as long as there are *identically named aliases* of the containing folders in either the root or the Users folder.
Logic puts 'Convertees' by default in the Users folder, I believe.
Whether it is best I cannot tell you, that depends on your use. If you use lots of EXS instruments in a project it may be advantageous to have all sound content on a a dedicated disk, to avoid too much traffic to and from the Startup volume, possibly leading to Logic reacting sluggishly.
    regards, Erik.

  • EXS Factory Samples And Sampler Instruments Duplicates and Missing Legacy

since updating and comparing to my macbook which i havent updated, it seems there are missing exs factory samples. for example on new logic 9 there are 2 folders exs factory samples which have 01 through 09 folders. the sampler instruments folder has 01 through 12 and folder 12 legacy instruments which on my mac book in sampler instruments have 01 thru 10 then skips to 26 to 41
ann ex factory folder on mac book 01 thru 10 folders and 10 legacy folder contains 01 thru 10 then skips to 27 thru 38. what is going on . why are there missing files in new upgrade i did on main computer? and how do i get all the exs samples and what should they be?

This problem began,i think in Logic 8.....when you install LP8 normally the EXS instruments and Legacy EXS there were always some missing that I was used to using..I found them eventually, they were now part of the the Garageband instrument Library.
I went back and searched all the install DVDs until I found them showing up..some EXS instruments would be missing the actual samples which were now part of the Garageband instrument library,Attitude Bass being one I remember off hand.
I just copied all the Instruments and samples I needed and got rid of the rest which amounts to a lot of space being freed up.
Now I just keep a backup of all my EXS files on external drive so I dont need to install them every upgrade as in Logic 9 (which I checked just in case there were any new files etc!)..which also sorts out the duplicate files headache.
    Hope this helps.....

  • Sampler Instruments

    Hello,
I am working on a friends computer trying to get all of his samples working in the EXS 24 other then the Logic Pro samples. All of the Aiff files where scattered in various folders on his various hard drives. So I organized all of them (Aiff files) in the EXS Sample folder. Then Put all the .EXS file in the Sampler Instruments folder. in folder catagories. But when I load the new .EXS files the sampler can't find the sample. Yet I can see the Aiff files. How can I correct this? Thanks In advance.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1 GiG 2.3

If you have not done it yet, then it is a different topic - since your EXS files don't exist ( yet ).
All you really need to do is decide exactly how you want your library in the filesystem - map, save EXS, save PM data at the end of the day. Leave your sampler, REX, EXS files where they are after they are mapped. If you don't move or modify them ( may want to allow yourself read only privs ) then you should have virtually no problems like relink, slow load times...
All your samples and insts go into your home folder ( /Users/~you~/Lib/AppSupport/Logic ) unless you need to outsmart Logic ( samples are easy to reference from another Volume ) - I just have mine linked from several different accounts - a pain for most users.
Then, you will not likely have to move things around or spend hours with Project Manager. Logic will keep it's samples apart from yours and Migrating is pretty easy. : ^)

Do you still have Logic 8 or 7? They still have the wonderful amazing Project Manager, which will search your hard drives for the audio data and EXS sampler instruments, and reconnect them to the song session file automatically.
And : Now you know that you have to start keeping all project data in the song folder, since they got RID OF the project manager.
There is a checkbox option for this.
    Cheers

  • How to convert mp3 software instrument samples to format garageband can use

    Hi and thanks in advance.
I'm using GB '08 on OSX 10.4.11 w/ a G4 MDD. ( Sorry folks,  This is the setup that I have and cannot buy a new computer or software at this time)
I'm pretty new too DAW and all of this but want to compose music with traditional orchestra sounds as well as what GB offers.
I have found Muse Score and I can get some pretty good results for writing but I want to expand the software instrument voices that GB has.
    I found  http://www.philharmonia.co.uk/thesoundexchange/make_music/samples/library/
and they have some pretty good sounding software instruments for free, except that they are in mp3 format.
I did some reading and see that GB understands a different format for this. I put some of the sounds into the correct GB folder as a test and result is of course no go. I see that GB uses exs and cst files in addition to wav and aff files.
How do I convert mp3 software instrument samples to the formats garageband can use? Is there a way? What would I need to do this?
    Thanks again..

The first step would probably be to convert the samples into AIFF files, that's what GB's sample files are in.
But so far that's only a collection of samples - what you need is a sampler file that tells the software which sample to trigger with which key (the .exs files in GB's instrument library).
Since your software is old, t works pretty well with soundfonts (the latest versions have problems), so you might try this software to create them:
    http://sonicamigos.com/polyphontics/
    All about soundfonts:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Tutorials/SoundFonts.html
P.S.: The softare costs $60, but you can create 10 instruments for free.

  • EXS 'send to sampler' question.

OK so I've started doing remixes where I'm bringing all the audio into a project and using the new logic 9 'send to sampler' to chop up the beats etc.
This is all great, but I also want these new sampler instruments to appear in my main EXS library so I can use them on other projects, but when you pull up a new project they don't appear, they only appear within the project they were created for.
I mean I could transfer them all manually, but it's a bit long winded. Therefore has anybody found a way of shifting these temporary EXS files to their main library permanently within logic itself?

    Bill,
not sure but you might find the below info illuminating; picked this up at the Digital Village Blog http://blog.dv247.com/logic-9-review-convert-sampler-instrument/2842/
"A few important things to note here:
When converting to a Sampler Instrument, there are two choices: By Transient Markers or by Regions. The behaviour is significantly different for each method.
Transient markers are automatically created when Flex mode is enabled, converting to Sampler Instrument by transients, or enabling Transient Editing mode in the Sample Editor. These transient markers may not be exactly where you want them. The only way to adjust this is through the Sample Editor.
The Sampler Instrument produced does not make individual samples (slices), it merely creates zones which have the Start time offset to produce the desired effect. These zones reference the original audio file, which is probably stored in with your project (assuming that you have ’saved with assets’). More on this later.
If no Project folder has previously been created, the resulting Sample Instrument (.exs) file is stored in the default Logic directory (users:Music:logic), and the EXS file merely references the original audio file, wherever it may be stored. If the Project has been saved “with assets”, but not with ‘Copy exs instruments or samples to Project Folder’ ticked, the EXS instrument file is still created, but the audio sample is still referencing the audio file in the project folder, not any separate sample file. Saving the project with ‘Copy Exs inst. & Samples’ ticked does indeed copy the audio (sample) and the exs instrument to new directories within the project folder.
If you slice the region by transients (by first enabling Flex mode, then using the contectual menu to “Slice by Transients” (or the old Strip Silence method), and then convert to a Sampler Instrument using the ‘by regions’ function, the individual regions are converted to new audio files which are separately referenced by the EXS instrument produced. The above comments regarding the resulting audio files, sampler instruments and any samples still apply.
The crucial issue with all of this is that the exs instrument is not added to your main sampler library, and the samples remain in the project folder. One could easily lose these Instruments and samples! To be of more general use, it is necessary to open the EXS Instrument Editor for the relevant sampler instruments, and use the ‘Export Sampler Instrument and Sample files’ function to save them into your main sample library.
    Hope this helps

  • GB Searching For Sampler Instruments

How do I get GB to search for (or, better yet, FIND) all my sampler instruments? When I double click on one of the instruments to get the track info, GB says, for example
    "Grand Piano.exs":
    Audio file
    "024C0KM56M.wav"
    not found!
Yet I know the exact folder/location of the file(s). So how can I get GB to look there and gather all the samples?
Thank you very much in advance for your responses,
    Javier Calderon

Oh well. I figured it out on my own. For anyone interested in knowing, this is what I did: I simply took all my sample library files from the folder they were in and, with GB open, I dropped the entire folder in the sample library area of the app. It imported and organized them accordingly - which took a while since I have over 50,000 samples, but it worked.

  • 9.0.1 EXS24 Sampler Instruments issue

After the 9.0.1 update, about half of my EXS24 instruments are now named "sampler instrument" or just "instrument." The presets in the subfolders still have their correct names. None of the factory instruments have this problem, but many 3rd party instruments do. I tried replacing my entire sampler instruments folder with a backup, but the problemis still there. Tried disk permissions, still no go. Any ideas? Trash prefs (I haven't tried that yet, not sure if there are EXS prefs or not...

I noticed the same issue after installing the Logic 9.01 update. Thankfully, the 3rd party instruments still work with EXS24. They still sound as they should (for me, anyway). Unfortunately, the main folder names of the 3rd party instruments are different (as described in the original post) than what I originally created. So, to clarify, "just" the display names to the 3rd party instrumental libraries are at fault. This was not the case for Logic 8.02 (or even Logic 9.0, for that matter). So, it appears that this is a new bug in the latest version of Logic.
All of my instrumental libraries are stored on a separate audio drive. I created "Alias" folders/files that pointed to the audio drive and placed them as originally directed (2+ years ago) in the Macintosh HD drive. In an attempt to figure out a work around to this possible bug, I renamed the "Alias" folders to the 3rd party instruments. It wasn't helpful.
    Any suggestions??

  • EXS cant find samples

i made a load of different sample libraries using the exs24. everything was fine and the exs could find them no problem until suddenly tonight i get a message when i try to load the sample saying something like it cant be found... continue or search again...Why does this suddenly happen.??? its not the 1st time with previous samples. with previous ones i wasn't really happy with the samples i made so i didn't worry but these ones i am very happy with so i want the exs to find them
I havnt as yet used the samples in a project. they are saved on an external HD. the alias is found in users /library/ app. support/ logic/sampler instruments where i have folders for groups of instruments e.g bass, guitar keys etc
I have refreshed menu. i have set preferences to search all volumes.. is there a way to point it in the right direction ???
    any help appreciated
    marc

Just tried setting all volumes to external volumes. the only difference it made was in telling me that it still cant be found.
to be specific; this is what is actually says
EXS Instrument "ReggaeTon.exs" Audio file "E0.wav" not found!
this makes me wonder did i save it properly in the 1st place.
i had to make the sample in a logic project which is now deleted but i saved the instrument in a folder on my external HD for EXS instruments i make. the alias in the default location on my mac HD users account is pointing and showing that it does exist.
im at a loss as all the other sample collections i have made are found no problem and im sure i have done the same procedure with the few that cant be found.!!!!
