Re: Load up problem on Satellite Pro A300

Hi there, i am trying to sort out a laptop for a friend and have hit a bit of a wall...please could someone help asap!?
When i start up the laptop the usual Toshiba logo and slogan appears, i then come to a black screen with two options;
1. launch startup repair
2. start windows normally,
above this it says that "windows has failed to start, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause"
when i choose the option to launch startup repair, i come to another screen saying "windows is loading files..." with a white bar, this then loads and i am taken to the Microsoft corporation loading screen with the common green loading bar, when this disappears, it takes a while to load but the cursor then shows and a while later a grey background does too with a message box saying "The installed program cannot start. Click OK to turn off the computer". With this, this is as far as the laptop gets. the HDD logo on the bottom of the laptop is constantly green at this point.
if i choose to start windows normally, once again the usual Microsoft loading screen appears with the green loading bar, this takes a while but when this disappears a blue screen flashes and i am unable to see what it says due to flashing so quick, i am then taken back to the screen with the two options mentioned above.
I do not have any recovery disks that i have seen mentioned and i don't think that my friends do either, however i do have the given manual which seems to be no help and a product recovery as supplied with the laptop, i realise that this will completely factory reset the laptop, however will this definitely make the laptop work? Is there a way to save the data on the laptop first? Are there any other solutions that may work or hardware that can be bought rather than using this disk and losing data?
Any help is appreciated asap!
Thanks very much!!

Sorry but I dont know what you mean with console box.
I have recovered my Satellite A300 many times and know exactly what happen so this console box confuses me.
When notebook starts to read recovery image you can see THIS .
Next what you see is THIS .
When load is finished you can see this menu .
On this step you must just click on NEXT. On next menu just confirm with NEXT and recovery installation will start.
Sorry but I cannot say more than that.
If you can make pic of this console maybe I can understand what is wrong there.

  • Satellite Pro A300 PSAGDA: Problems installing webcam on Win 7

    Hi there guys,
its been a few weeks since installing Windows 7, only for the last few days have i actually bothered to install toshiba software (dont stone me!).
Right now I've been scratching my head when installing the webcam drivers. When the install is done and after a reset, all it says is Webcam failed to initialize, please restart cam or computer.
Restarting the laptop wont do anything
I am using a Toshiba Satellite pro A300 PSAGDA-01C00R, do these drivers simply not work for the time being on 7?
any help would be great, thanks!

    Hello
I have installed THIS version of webcam driver on my Win7 preinstalled Satellite A300 and it works perfectly.
I have tested preinstalled software and it runs well. I have also tested it with Skype. No problems at all.
Test it on your Satellite too.

  • Satellite Pro A300 - I get the "Windows search" if I left click any folder

I have just purchased a Satellite Pro A300 and downgraded it to Windows XP SP3.
When I left-click any folder icon on my hard drive I get the 'Windows Search' window displayed instead of opening the folder. When I right-click any folder icon, the first item in the menu (bolded) is 'Search'.
How can I change the order of these menu items so as 'Open' is the first item?
Can I remove (Control Panel-Add or Remove Programs) the Windows Search facility without affecting any software I have loaded?
Is having the Windows Search facility installed the likely cause of my problem?
    Thanks,
    Murray

Have just solved my own problem:
    1. The order of items in the shortcut menu for Folders can be changed by updating the actions for specified file types in the Folder Options Menu. Select +Folder Options+ from the +Tools+ menu of any folder, select +File Types+ and scroll down to *Folder*. Click *Advanced* then click *New* and add *Open* with *Explorer* as the program to use. Click *OK* and *Close* and bingo! Appears the order of the short-cut menu in XP is Open before search, but in XP Pro is Search followed by Open/Explore.
    2. The Windows Search utility can be safely removed despite the warning issued - the Microsoft website indicates the warning is simply a generic warning and it is highly unlikely that removal will affect any software installed since the Search utility was loaded.
    3. The Windows Search utility was NOT the cause of this problem.
Trust this might save others the hours of research I had to do to find this solution ...

  • Satellite Pro A300-1H2 - Windows does not recognise HDD

    Hi,
i'm a newbie, this has probably bin asked before so if it has you'l have to excuse me, i have a satellite pro A300-1h2.
I got the blue screen unmountable boot volume, so have tried to fit a new samsung drive. I put in my windows disc it loads all the drivers then says there is no hard disc?
In bios it recognises it ???
    Thanks if anyone can help

    Hi
The problem is that your notebook supports the HDD SATA controller but the OS system does not contain the SATA drivers
You could set in BIOS the SATA mode to compatible.
This will allows you to install the OS without the installation of SATA drivers.

  • Satellite Pro A300-28V - My bluescreens disappeared when BIOS was upgraded

I am curious about this. The machine is an Satellite Pro A300-28V with Vista32/Win7.
Had problems with bluescreen dumps referring to "iaStor.sys". I was just about to send the laptop in for repair when I made this last effort to solve the problem. Upgraded BIOS from 1.9 to 2.1-Win.
Suddenly my system image succeeded!! Even to an Iomega home network HDD. No hang-ups!
No bluescreen dumps even at "cold" start-up (after a night off)!
At the moment I let the computer home in sleeping mode while I am at work. Let's see if it managed a day without dumps.
What is the technical difference between BIOS 1.9 and 2.1? Any idea if it has anything with iaStor.sys to do?

    Hi mate
This is really good news that your BSOD displeasured after BIOS update.
The BIOS give instructions to power-on self test (POST) and provide basic information about how to handle some notebook components, like HDD, ODD, memory which are needed to load the operating system.
Who knows, what has been changed in the update but the main thing is that everything work and the update solve your BSOD
    >Any idea if it has anything with iaStor.sys to do?
iaStor.sys is a part of the SATA driver which is need for recognizing the HDD using the AHCI mode.

  • Satellite Pro A300-28R - Windows starts up with wrong display resolution

OK so I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300-28R with Windows 7 64 bit and an ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 HD graphics card.
I recently connected my laptop to a TV via the S-video connection. This worked fine. The problem is that ever since then every time I start my laptop Windows starts with the S-video display resolution of 600x800.
I have tried changing the settings in both Control Panel and using the ATI CCC, having both selected and applied these settings but each time Windows starts now it boots with the above display resolution.
Following this I have also uninstalled and reinstalled both my display driver and the Toshiba Value Added package but the same problem persists. I have searched with Google about this problem and haven't been able to find anything useful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi thanks for your responses! Originally I used the method of closing the laptop screen while connected to the s-video and then opening the screen and logging into Windows. This then automatically detects the display and changes to that output. To get out of this you can do either do the reverse or pres Fn+ F5 to undo. This has worked perfectly for me before with VGA connections. Its only since connecting to s-video that now no matter what, every time the laptop starts up even when it is not connected to any external display, it loads with the resolution 800x600. This is not the first time I have used s-video, but it is the first time I have had this result after doing it.
Interestingly if I change to the appropriate resolution and do a restart. The system restarts and loads to the logon screen and then into Windows in the resolution I specified before the restart but then after fully loading Windows it then changes to 800x600. It is as if the laptop is detecting that there is something connected to the s-video when there is not. I have read a fix for this whereby you can go into the system registry and turn off the feature for automatically detecting displays but I use external displays frequently and this is not a satisfactory solution. This worked perfectly before.

  • Satellite Pro A300-1GT - Error message when starting webcam

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300-1GT. The problem is that the camera does not work. When I start software it writes that I should restart camera or computer. I'm having Windows 7 and I serched the internet for solutions but I find just a discusions with the same problem without solutions.
    Sory for may bad English.

    Hi
The cam is not listed in device manager; neither as unknown device nor as USB device?
Well, I read here in the forum that internal webcam is connected to the USB controller on the motherboard and sometimes the connection is loose and therefore the cam cannot be recognized by system.
I think in such case the notebook needs to be disassembled and the connection should be checked. But this seems to be a job for technicians

  • Satellite Pro A300 crashes with blank screen

I have a Satellite Pro A300, AMD CPU, ATI graphics, Vista.
The system worked fine for a year but a few months ago it started crashing, the screen went blank, not blue, anything running, like music, stopped. This can happen after several hours or minutes, or even whilst it is re-booting. All my software is up-to-date, both from Microsoft and Toshiba. I have rebuilt my system from scratch and the symptoms came back.
At first I thought this might be a heat problem but I have monitored this but I don't think this is it. It has crashed seconds after leaving sleep mode when it has not had a chance to warm up.
    Anybody got any ideas?
    Simon

    Hi buddy,
Theoretically it could be an overheating problem so the screen went blank due built in overheat protection...
You should try to clean your notebook using compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators and therefore its not necessary to disassemble the notebook.
In your case I would recommend reading this article:

  • Satellite Pro A300 PSAGDE re-booting when plugged in

I have had this laptop put away for a while as I couldn't work through this problem, but I'm having another try.
The laptop is a Satellite Pro A300 PSAGDE.
The problem I am haiving is that the laptop would re-boot whenever I connect the PSU, but not when using a live CD (Ubuntu).
I would like to try and flash a replacement BIOS to see if that will solve the problem.
Unfortunately the software needed to flash the BIOS requires the laptop to be plugged in.
Is there any way around this problem?
Can I fool the software into thinking it is plugged in?
Is there a way I can revert/repair the BIOS in any other way as obviously the problem hasn't always been there.
    Thanks

So once again: notebook runs fine using battery power but reboot always (in the loop????) when AC adaptor is connected. But using Live CD the notebook runs ok even if the AC adaptor is connected.
    Right???
    >> I think it may be a BIOS issue because the laptop will run without an issue when booting a live cd, even when it is plugged in.
If the unit runs ok using Live CD, then this means that this cannot be BIOS issue because BIOS does not depend on installed system.
Therefore in my opinion its definitely not a BIOS problem.
I think you should firstly disable the automatic reboot when an system crashes Win 7 is configured to restart immediately when a BSOD happens and this happens too fast to see the error I think you mean this by automatic reboot
    Disable this by following way:
1)Control Panel -> System & Security -> System -> click the Advanced system settings
2)Locate the Startup and Recovery section near the bottom of the window and click Settings button.
3)In the Startup and Recovery window, uncheck the check box next to Automatically restart.
4)Now click OK and restart the unit
In my opinion the system crashed and therefore the notebook reboots

  • Satellite Pro A300: cam picture appears which has been taken 6 months ago

    Hello everybody,
I have a problem with my Camera Assistant Software. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300.
I used once my camera for taking pictures and now after 6 moths I wanted to take a picture again, but it appears the last picture taken 6 months ago. I uninstalled and than reinstalled the software and the same problem occurs. I tried to change some of the settings and this didn't help too.
I would be very thankful, if someone could help me!!!

    Hey Dr. Lamp,
I think this could be the same problem, but I can't find this "screen cover" in the settings and effects of my camera.
All the other suggestions I have tried (removing the picture, reinstall and so on).
Maybe you can help me to find this function for my Camera Assistant Software version 1.7.
    Thank you!

  • Satellite Pro A300 - FN Key not working with xp downgrade

I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 and downgraded the o/s to XP.
There is a problem with the FN key on the keyboard, it does not function. I dont know if this has something to do with the xp downgrade?
    Any ideas please?

If you have downgraded to Windows XP with the Microsoft disk you must install the Toshiba utilities and Hotkey Utility.
This is necessary for the FN keys in Windows XP so check the Toshiba website for these utilities:

  • Satellite Pro A300 - shutdown issue

I have a brand new Satellite Pro A300-15V, which I have downgraded from Vista Business to XP Professional, using the original recovery disc.
Now I have problem shutting down the computer. When I click "Turn Off" it just shuts down and then restarts after a minute or two. Also, I can't bring it back from hibernation unless I shut it down on the button first.
    Can anyone help, pls?

    Hi guys
Im not 100% sure if my advice could help you but what you should do is firstly BIOS update to the latest version. Ive noticed that new BIOS were released last week for some A300 notebooks series.
After the BIOS update disable the WakeUp on LAN settings in the BIOS.
You could also disable the options like: "Wakeup on keyboard" and "Critical battery WakeUp"
    *@cfrigerio:*
It seems youve already disabled this function but please check also the LAN card setting in the device manager -> LAn card properties -> Advanced tab.
There should be an option likes Wakeup on link, Wakeup using APM mode, etc
    Disable these options!
Furthermore please check if any 3rd party applications dont wakeup the notebook.
Sometimes the scheduled tasks could be responsible for the irregular waking ups.
    Good luck

  • Cooling fan is not working on Satellite Pro A300

    Hi Everyone
I was asked by a friend to repair their Satellite Pro A300, as their CPU Cooling Fan had stopped working even during POST bootup and the laptop would overheat and shutdown. So I thought it could one of three things:
    # Fan is clogged with dust or dirt
    # Fan bearing has failed
    # Fan power cable was loose
So I disassembled the laptop and cleaned the fan/heatsink using compressed air and checked the power connection which was solid, but this did not solve the problem, so I replaced the fan and heatsink with another one that I knew worked from the same model laptop that had a fault motherboard because of the random bios boot-up password bug (out of warranty) but still no joy.
I am beginning to believe that the fan was perfectly fine rather the motherboards cpu temperature sensor(s) that control the fan activation has failed.
Am I correct, in thinking that this is basically, irreparable without specialised tools and my friend will have content themselves with turning the system off every hourish or is there something else I am overlooking?
    Thank you, for any help.

    Hello
Im not a technician but for me it sounds like that fan connector is malfunctioning if you have already replaced the fan and therefore it would be necessary to replace the mainboard
Thats everything what I can say about this Have a look for second mainboard or notebook where you can get a cheap mainboard. Maybe it works. :)

  • Satellite Pro A300 standby and hibernate functions not working properly

    I have a new satellite Pro A300 PSAJ1E - 01E00VIT, and I'm finding this problem:
Sometimes, (not always: may be it depends on which program is running) when trying to put the computer in stand-by or in hibernate mode, it doesn't stop, but only shuts down the monitor (panel), while the fan goes on running and the power light is green. Obviously, lots of battery energy consumption!
Then there is no other way of resuming than shutting down the computer by holding down the power button long time... but this is not correct!
NB: my computer is always connected to a lan, and generally there are some browser windows open when I put it in stand-by mode.
    How can I fix this?
    jomurray

Generally you are right but the point is that you have said that this issue doesnt happen always but sometimes.
    > Sometimes, (not always: may be it depends on which program is running) when trying to put the computer in stand-by or in hibernate mode, it doesn't stop
Fact is that some single applications which are running can prevent the execution of standby mode or hibernation mode.
Therefore if you are running such programs you will have to close it firstly.
I dont say that this must be done with all applications. ;)
