Re locking a pdf

Hi
I'm wondering if there is a way to make the pdf created (editable) in Form central into a regular uneditable pdf after the form has been filled out?

If you designed the form in FormsCental you can have people fill out the PDF form then submit the data to FormsCentral. Then as the author of the form when you receive the data you can select the row in the View Responses table and click on the "Save as PDF" button (or right click on a row and select "Download Response as PDF Form..."). this will create a flat PDF with the data in it.
If you are not collecting data in FormsCentral or if you imported the PDF in FormsCentral (as opposed to designed it in FormsCentral) and you want to save it from Acrobat after filling it out then it is a bit more complicated.
Have a look at this : http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-flatten-form-fields
Hope this helps

  • Can you lock a pdf file?

Hi all! I have a client who has created a pdf booklet. It's a form that people will be filling out. She wants to distribute it on a CD. So... people will have to be able to copy it to their computer to open and fill it in. However, she then wants them to NOT be able to copy the pdf (she doesn't want it duplicated so that others can use it). Is this even possible? Can you lock a pdf like that? Thanks!

    >What kind of restrictions?
Check File>Properties>Security for the different options.
Keep in mind that security on a PDF file is easy to get around.

  • Adobe Reader X: How to disable resource file locks of PDFs

    Hi,
I develop PDFs using LaTeX tools, and like to view my PDFs with Adobe Reader X (I am currently using version 10.1.0.534) on Windows XP.
Unfortunately, I cannot compile my LaTeX documents using pdflatex (or otherwise) when the file these tools are trying to write to are open by Adobe Reader X, which appears to place a resource lock on open files.
Is there any configuration option to prevent the Reader X from placing a resource lock on files? It is frustrating to have to manually close and re-open the reader whenever I recompile my PDFs that I am resorting to other PDF readers, like Sumatra or Foxit, which don't place locks on PDFs they read.
I understand that the resource lock may be a solution for dealing with problems related to ActiveX components for IE, but I only use Chrome and Firefox, so this is an unneccessary and annoying behaviour.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ratzski

Thanks for your suggestion, but doing this (kind of thing... as I couldn't exactly follow your instructions as they aren't visible in Reader X 10.1) didn't work.
Can anyone else offer any suggestions?

  • Locking a PDF from Editing once submitted

I had a question from a person I am working with on locking a pdf form. She has a form that she wants to be able to distribute to the people in her department to fill out when they need to order or request something. She wants a submit button on it as well. The locking part comes in now...She wants to know if once you click on Submit on the form, can the form editing be disabiled. The form will be going to another department and she does not want them to be able to edit what was put in.
I hope someone can help me out.
    Thanks,
    Kristen

Have you tried either executing a script  (set the .readonly=true) or mark as read-only options on the Signed tab of the signature field properties?  They aren't really locked locked but it makes it so a user can't mistakenly type data in a field.  They would have to go thru a few extra steps to make the fields editable.  Just a quick and dirty way to make the form appear to be locked down.  HTH.

  • Acrobat Pro 8 question to lock downloaded pdf to computer.

    Hello to everyone.
I am interested in Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 for Mac, but I have a question which needs an answer to.
Can you lock a pdf in Acrobat Pro 8 to the computer used to download the file? I was told by a sales rep that if you exclude the ability to print, copy, edit, and move a pdf file in Acrobat Pro 8 this will lock the file to the specific computer used to download it. Is this statement correct? I am trying to find out with a definitive yes or no. Thanks for any and all help.
    Cory

Alternatively, look at using digital signatures and the security
policies. This method ensures that only the person with the matching
certificate can open the file and have specific options ...
It would involve swapping digital ID files but once set-up, it's very
powerful ... just uses Acrobat 8 and even Reader ..

  • How do you lock a PDF file so that the user cannot create or delete bookmarks?

How do you lock a PDF file so that the user cannot create or delete bookmarks?
    Thanks!

There's no way to lock bookmarks specifically, but if you you can apply a
security policy to prevent editing the PDF in general.

  • Please help!!! I locked my pdf for editing then signed it now cannot unlock to make changes

Using adobe acrobat professional 6.0, I made comments on a pdf then went to the security icon to lock the pdf.  I accidently forgot to choose to allow commenting.  I then signed the pdf.
Now when i try to edit the pdf.  it tells me i must clear all signature fields, but when i right click on the signature field there is no choice to clear or delete. i think its because in the changes allowed box i left it as none. does anyone know how i can get the option to clear my signature field and re enter my password so that i can edit this pdf.

    Hi,
If you have access to the private key (the digital ID) that was used to create the signature then Acrobat should let you clear it. The only exception is, if the signature field properties were set to lock on signing (this is different then the No Changes Allowed setting on the sign dialog).

  • Locking a PDF document

    Hello All,
Any idea about how to lock a PDF document which has been stamped using Stamp annotation so that the user cannot modify the stamp using even Adobe Standard?
    Thanks,

Set security in the PDF so that the content can not be changed.

  • How to lock a pdf file

How do I lock a pdf file before I email to someone.

    Hi RCHENCPA,
By lock, I'm assuming you mean 'secure'.  If that's the case, you'll need Adobe Acrobat to secure your PDF files.  PDF files created from FormsCentral do not have any security measures applied to them, nor is there a way of doing this from FormsCentral during the PDF-creation process. This Adobe TV tutorial covers securing PDF files in more detail: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-acrobat-x/how-to-protect-pdf-documents/
Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • Lock my pdf's

I want to lock my pdf's from being edited by others (converting the pdf into a word file.  How can I do this??

Well technically I haven't been able to use Create PDF successfully. But
for example - I have an excel spreadsheet on my desktop that I want to
convert into a PDF. As of now I am right clicking, properties, change it to
open with Adobe Reader. This successfully changes it to a PDF format, but
when I try to open it, Adobe pops up and claims that it can't open my
document because it's not a supported file. Ugh!

  • Can you lock a pdf to print in Actual Size?

I'm having an issues when others go to print out a document and don't make sure the document is set to print in actual size and we lose the scaling on the document. Is there a way to lock the print settings on a pdf so they are always correct?

You can set a Print Preset in Acrobat Pro in File > Document > Advanced which controls the way the Print dialog initially displays. Of course, someone could also change it. You cannot lock the print settings.

  • How to lock a pdf form after entering data

    Hi
I have created certificate with editable fields for a client, I was of the thinking that the certificate is to be filled-in and printed however the client informed me that it is instead emailed to recipients. How can I make it possible for the client to lock the certificate after entering data.
Bear in mind that the client is using Adobe Reader not Acrobat. I have tried setting a security password but Reader does not require the password in order to enable or disable the fields.

If the user has Acrobat, not the free Reader, they could flatten the PDF form. If they only have Reader they can make the fields read only. They also might want to use a digital certificate to invisibly sign the PDF. Signing the PDF will add code to disclose if the PDF has been changed since it was signed.

  • Is there a way to lock a PDF so it can only be printed at 100%

I haven't dealt much with PDF security so forgive my lack of knowledge. We have a product template that needs to only be printed out at 100%. Is possible to lock the printing prefs? I've searched Acrobat help and the web but I couldn't find anything so if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great! Thanks!

Unfortunately, you cannot "lock" your history. However, if you want to keep certain web pages you visited, the best way of doing that is making it a bookmark. To bookmark something, press the star symbol to the right of the address bar.

  • Lock a PDF file when converted from Smartform

    Hello Experts,
In our current project we have an urgent requirement to apply a Lock to a PDF document
so it cannot be amended. This is a PDF document and not an Adobe interactive
form, which currently cannot be used on the project. We are seeking help from
other colleagues who have had successful experience in achieving the creation
of a lock to the PDF document which is generated as an output from a SAP Smart
Form and then e-mailed to the recipient, in this case end Customers, therefore
integrity of information to prevent changes is a legal requirement. We are
aware of an encrypted password option but in this case we need to apply a lock
    to the PDF document.
    Many Thanks in advance,
    Kind Regards,

  • Locking a pdf Form

I created an application form with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.  It has reguired fields that must be completed before submitting to ensure that basic information is completed.  However, I didn't lock it (protect it) to keep someone from changing the content, required fields, etc.  How can I lock the editing properties of the form, yet still enable the user to complete the fields?  Evidently, I have had a user save the file on their local computer before completing it and submitted without all of the required information.  This is what I am trying to control.  thanks.

You can protect PDF by applying password.
    1. Open the PDF Form in Acrobat.
    2. Go to File -> Properties -> Security (tab) -> Select Security Method as Password Security.
    3. Then, under 'Permission' section select 'Restrict Editing ...' check box.
    4. From 'Changes Allowed' dropdown select 'Filling in form fields and signing ...' option.
    5. Put the change permission password and click 'ok'. It will again prompt to confirm the password and then save the document.
Now your users can fill the form fields but they cannot edit its content.

  • Locking Custom PDF Setting

    Hi all
I have a custom PDF Setting for Distiller (8 - 9) that I would like to lock, much like the PDFX-1A pdf setting is locked. This would also be a setting that would be used in Indesign and Illustrator (CS3 - CS4).
Also, if this can be locked, is there a way to determine if a client has modified it (by saving as and editing it)?
    Thank you in advance
    SBurke

The joboptions file is a file like any other. It can be locked. As to determining if it has been changed, files have modification dates.
