Re: Lookup Links in Express

I've been trying to set up a lookup link in Express and can not get the
lookup type to come up as an option on the Link Properties window. Any ideas
why not?
Thanks,
KirstinKirstin,
In your business model the relationship between the tables must be a
'many to one' relationship as opposed to a 'one to many'. Where the
lookup table is obviously the 'one' in the relationship.

I see in the manual (pg 107) that you can't create a Lookup link on
an outline window. If that's not it, check the info on the type of
associations required for a lookup link, on pg. 109.

  • Linking airport express with other airport express or belkin base

is it possible to link my airport express with another and thus have wireless coming from both?
if not, can it be done with anything other than an apple base, namely Belkin?
any help would be appreciated. thanks

You can link two Express units in a WDS network, by configuring one to extend the wireless network of the other.
Airport Express units can extend a Belkin wireless network if you are using a Belkin F5D7230-4 or F5D7231.

  • Link Airport Express to an AirPort Time Capsule to use Airplay?

I am thinking about getting an 2GB AirPort Time Capsule. I use the Airplay feature on my Airport Express that is not part of the AirPort Time Capsule and that is the only reason I have not replaced the Airport Express with the Airport Time Capsule. Has anyone had any experience in setting up a these two units to do what they do together? Any potential problems linking these two units together?

If your intent is to use the new Time Capsule as your "main" Internet router, and then, use the Express for iTunes streaming this can be done without any real issues.
Please check out the following Apple Support article on how to configure an AirPort Express for iTunes.

I am linking 7 airport expresses to an airport extreme via ethernet cables in a large estate I maintain. Is there a specific product apple recommends to act as the "backbone" in such an application? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you

Is there a specific product apple recommends to act as the "backbone" in such an application
Apple does not recommend a specific product in this regard.
In general, you would connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Exteme to a Gigabit Ethernet switch, then connect as many Ethernet cable runs as you want to use to remote locations around the house.
Ethernet switches come in 5-port, 8-port, 16-port etc versions, so choose according to your needs.
I recommend Netgear and Cisco switches, but I am sure that there are other good products from which to choose.
Be sure to run CAT6 Ethernet cable to allow for the faster speeds coming in the next decade or so.

  • Airport Extreme: Can it be linked with express?

I like the airplay option that comes with express.  I am surprised that the Extreme and Time capsule do not come with this simple option.  I already have express and I want to be able to use my hard drive(s) wirelessly.
Also, can I directly wire my desktop to the Airport extreme with an ethernet cable?

I like the airplay option that comes with express.  I am surprised that the Extreme and Time capsule do not come with this simple option.
Actually, it is NOT a simple option as it would require a complete redesign of either the Extreme or Time Capsule to include the audio hardware provided in the Express. However, I would agree with you that it would be nice option to have this feature with all Apple routers.
I already have express and I want to be able to use my hard drive(s) wirelessly.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to use the USB port on the AirPort Express for this as it doesn't support external USB HDDs.
Also, can I directly wire my desktop to the Airport extreme with an ethernet cable?
Yes. You can connect your desktop, via Ethernet, to any of the available LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme.

  • LINKING AIRPORT EXPRESS TO XBOX LIVE

My xbox keeps loosing its wireless signal when connected to a airport express. Any ideas what's causing this?

you will likely have more success asking airport questions in the airport forum
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/wireless/airport
then here in the appletv forum

  • Computer link to express locks up occasionally

I have not noticed a trend, except that whenever I sleep my iBook then wake it, the airport signal gets mysteriously weaker and I am no longer connected to the internet. The problem is not my computer as I used to use it flawlessly in many locations.
The possible causes of the problem:
    1) Campus wireless network (although it doesn't reach the dorm rooms very well) (and I'm not signed up to use it yet, gotta do that)
    2) microwave/fridge between me and the base (although right now I have full signal strength, and the stuff happens without the machine turning on)
    3) Overloaded power cables (just occured to me, probably the cause now that I think of it)
    4) defective hardware (very rare considering its apple)

Do you have the firmware on the Express up to date? I and others have found version 6.2 of the firmware to be unstable. I'm running 6.3 now and it's rock-solid.
The microwave and fridge between you and the base could be the source of the problem. The microwave can definitely interfere with the network if it's on, but the fridge may also be emitting enough interference to cause problems -- not to mention all the metal in the fridge and microwave, which does not pass radio waves very well.

  • Linking 2 Airport Express Stations iMacG4

I am trying to link 2 Express Stations for use with my Cable Internet Connection.
I have a iMac PowerPC G4 without an Airport card...
I configured 1st Express as remote station where computer is connected to...2nd express is by Linksys cable modem and has booted and is on solid green light....
Using WDS I can not locate main station and express connected to computer is flashing amber...
I can not seem to get the sttions to locate each other...I even tried setting them up one room apart thinking it was the distance...
can anyone help setting these two express stations up via WDS network on older iMac G4 with no airport card?
    Thanks

    Wireless Distribution System (WDS) Setup
    Main Base Station Setup
(Note: When you set up base stations in a WDS, you need to know the MAC address of each base station. The MAC address is printed on the label on the bottom of the base station next to the AirPort symbol. To make it easier to set up a WDS, place all of the base stations on a table and plug them into a power supply.)
    - Connect to the wireless network created by the base station you want to set up as the main base station. (or connected directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the LAN/Ethernet port of the AEBS/AX)
    - Open AirPort Admin Utility, select the main base station, and click Configure. Enter the base station password. (The default password is "public.")
    - Click the WDS tab.
    - Select the “Enable this base station as a WDS” checkbox, and choose “main base station” from the pop-up menu.
    - Click Add and enter the MAC address of a base station you want to set up as a remote base station. You can also enter a description for the base station, the base station name, or its location.
    - Select “Allow wireless clients on this base station” if you would like wireless client computers as well as base stations to share the connection.
    - Click Update to send the new settings to the base stations in the WDS.
(Note: After you click Update, you can give each base station a name and password, and choose how the base station receives IP addresses.)
    Relay/Remote Base Station Setup
    - Connect to the remote or relay base station network, click WDS and enter the MAC address of the main base station.
    - Click Update to send the new settings to the remote or relay base stations.

  • Link Express and Extreme?

I live in a two-floor apartment. My Ethernet connection plugs into an Airport Express on the first floor. The signal upstairs is a little weak.
If I buy an Airport Extreme and put it upstairs, will it amplify the signal from the Express and give me a better connection upstairs?
Also: If that works, and I can link the Express and Extreme, can I plug a USB HD into the Extreme that's sitting upstairs? Or does the Ethernet have to be fed directly into the Extreme?

XYU77, Welcome to the discussion area!
You can configure the AirPort Express (AX) and AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to wirelessly connect using WDS. The AEBS will then extend the wireless signal from the AX. All of the AEBS's service would be available... this includes a connected USB hard drive.

  • BRF linking event action and expressions

    Hi,
Looking for a bit of clarification here
In an application class I have an event EVENT1, which is linked to an action ACTION1....
Now I design a a series of expressions lets call them EXPRA, EXPARB, EXPRC, and EXPRD.
What links these expressions to ACTION1 ??
If I then have another event EVENT2 which I link to an action ACTION2 for which I want to use the some of the same expressions (but not all) how do I do this.
    ALSO
An event can be linked to more than one action so this means I really need to understand how the expressions are linked to the action. For instance if I have 20 expressions but I want to use 10 of them when actiona is invoked and the other 10 for actionb how is this achieved (indeed can it be achieved)?
The doco for this framework is just terrible!!

    Hi,
you can either attach event / expression to action at a time, and you can not have both .
The usual rules to have Events -expressions -Actions are using the Rules.
One can have Expressions attached to event using Rules subscreen. and also attach the action to the same rule.... this will work like
"When Event is triggered, expression will be evaluated, and if this returns TRUE, then action will be executed."
ie., EVENT = if EXPRESSION then ACTION
You can attach 4 expressions to one action at a time, this you can achieve using the implementation class : CL_CRM_PS_ECC_MSG_BRF for the action.
use the BRF as message ID and 014 as Message number while creating the message . this gives you the option to enter 4 expressions.

  • Re: Scaling up the Express Development Environment

    Paul,
We have two BM's and two AM's.
We had two full-time developers and 2 part-time.
    BM1: 25 classes
    BM2: 8 classes
    AM1: 65 windows
    AM2: 22 windows
2-3 classes in each BM had to be duplicated becauses of the problem that
    you mentioned.
What we did to make the AM's and BM's more accessible was to create a
workspace in which the changes to the models would be made and the
classes re-generated and integrated but no other development was done. This way, a user
that needs to create a new class or window can be in and out of the workspace
in a relatively short period of time. The user then updates his own workspace
to get the changes created by the changes/additions to the models. Otherwise,
if a user checks out an AM and BM in their own workspace, makes the changes
and then continues to customize the windows, it may take a while before they
integrate and allow others to check the models out. In your case, you may want
to create a workspace for each AM/BM pair. You may also want to create a script
to update the workspaces of each of your users and force a compile on each workspace
on a nightly basis to reduce the amount of time wasted during the day updating and compiling. Another
thing we did to decrease wasted time waiting for updates, integrates and compiles was
to have each user create multiple workspaces(2-3) dedicated to different areas of
development so that while one workspace was busy updating, compiling etc..., they
could continue developing in another. This will increase the size of your repository
but disk space is cheap! Also, make sure everyone creates a shadow repository on their
machine to reduce hitting the main repository.
    Hope this helps.

Express development. By this I mean more than 2 teams working concurrently on
    applications that have dependencies.
    The scenario:
    BM - business model
AM1 - application model that uses subset of BM1
AM2 - application model that uses subset of BM1 and windows from AM1
    Team1 - will enhance AM1 during month 1-6
Team2 - will enhance AM2 during month 1-12, incorporating the work from Team1
Both teams wish to change the business model. Does it make sense to split the
model up? Express doesn't provide a mechanism for linking business models. If
you define a class in BM1, you can't draw an association to it from BM2.
Therefore the generated windows will not be able to reference the object as the
association is not defined. You could duplicate the classes that are common to
both (Forte Technical Support recommends this) but redundancy is never a good
thing. Something would probably have to be done to get the services coordinated
for load balancing, transaction mgmt of aggregate updates, etc.
It is possible to link application models together (window in AM2 linked to
window in AM1) but the link invokes only the defined start window of AM. You
can get around this for lookup links and command links by defining a proxy
window and overriding the link code to instantiate a window of the correct
type. Alternatively you can change the super class of the window to point to
the correct class. Any additional customizations (additional links, folders,
etc.) that were defined in the original base window will be lost. What appears
to be much more difficult is adding an additional folder to a window that is
defined in another application model. Ideally in AM2 you would define a link to
a window in AM1 that inherited all the folders etc defined in AM1 plus any
additionally defined in AM2 (sounds like something an OO tool should do).
Of course, there is nothing in Forte that would prevent you from doing this
yourself. However Express relies a lot on code generation rather than reusable
classes so you would have to duplicate a lot of code and window widgets to
achieve this. I would like to see Express evolve away from code generation. To
do that Forte would probably need to become more dynamic. Then Express could
have create an ExpressWindow class that could dynamically register as a folder
window in any parent without the need for a static declaration in the
    application model.
Even if all the technical issues are solved you still have to deal with all the
configuration mgmt issues involved in doing concurrent development. With
everyone wanting to change the models you need some form of version control. A
simple mechanism is to have multiple repositories and do a periodic manual
    merge of the models.
I'd be interested in hearing how other groups are handling this. Any comments
    or suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Split the business model, and duplicate the classes.
If you think of a business class the same way you think of and deal with
views, it will make accepting the redundancy more palatable. A view is a
virtual table created to support an application's "view" of a table or set
of tables. The BM business class is a similar conceptual object. Actually,
it is often useful to map a BM class to a declared view (if your update
requirements and your DBMSs view update capabilities permit). Using views
also allows you to map several business classes to the same table, which
Express normally would not allow you to do.
The issue of which tables should be in which business model is a schema
partitioning issue. For a small database (say five tables), even if you
have a hundred apps, the problem won't arise. You simply have one BM for
all the apps. For a very large database (say 300 tables), but very simple
apps (one or two tables) the problem still won't arise. You simply have one
BM for each app with the one or two tables the app needs. For large
applications on large databases the problem does arise. If you have a 300
table database with a 1000 screen system (40-50 app models), the problem
would arise, and would need a systematic clean solution. In such a system,
you can follow a data-centered design, where you partition based on the
data shared, which will lead you to a set of BMs that don't have duplicate
tables. Or you would partition based on functionality (more likely to
please the user community), in which case you would find that you would
have to duplicate tables across BMs.
    Hope that helps.

  • EJB Finder View Links and CMR

    Hi,
Can someone please give me some input on the following warning in the JDeveloper online help!
"Warning: You cannot create an EJB finder view link that expresses the same relationship as a CMR."
I'm new to EJB, BC4J and JDeveloper. I created container managed entity beans with local interfaces only to represent my data and relationships. No problems with the mapping so far.
To test the beans I used Session Facades with remote interfaces and build a sample test client.
Now I thought I could create EJB Entity Facades, EJB Finder View Objects, EJB Finder View Links and EJB Application Modules to make use of the BC4J framework in order to speed up programming clients (JSP and JClient).
So I've started studying the JDeveloper online help (which seems to be very useful) and found the above mentioned warning.
Well, better a warning than nothing at all, but some more explanations would have been even better.
Is there no need to use view links with CMR?
How to achieve the same functionality (synchronizing two view objects in a master-detail-relationship) with CMR?
Do you know any examples? I couldn't find any examples using EJB entity facades in the "sample code" area on OTN.
Any comments about other (better) architectures are also welcome. Would it be better to use BMP entity beans in conjunction with BC4J?
    Many thanks for your help!
    Regards,
    Eric

    Steven,
thank you for your reply and suggestions - I'll count on that. If I find time I'll read this book. It seems to be very interesting.
For educational purposes I'd like to look at both persistence implementation strategies. I agree that it looks definitly easier to use entity objects. Certainly it's also performancewise a better choice.
Anyhow, could you give me some useful tips for cmp entity beans and finder view objects?
Is there something which works completely different if I use BC4J on top of it?
How to implement a master-detail relationship in JClient (Swing) for example?
What about writing an ejbfinder which doesn't return all, but all data where the foreign key is equal to a parameter passed to the finder method and use this as the source for a detail view object. This could be the primary key of the selected master. Well, I don't know whether this is doable. But that's what comes to my mind spontaneously.
Would this be a solution? I'm still thinking about the aforementioned warning in the online help regarding view links.
I guess the problem is that the foreign key is not part of the entity bean as it's not a cmp-field. Instead you have accessor methods to retrieve a related object or a collection of objects.
I'm sure my questions are not too complicated to answer. It's only hard for a beginner to get an overview.
I'm quite confident that I'll manage this if I give my best and get some help from knowledgeable people like you Steven.
    Regards,
    Eric
