Re Messenger unwanted message

I don't use Messenger but I'm getting a message constantly and I don't want it. How do I turn off Messenger?

If its Yahoo messenger that appears on the BT Yahoo webmail page, then you cannot unistall it, only stay offline.
Did you install anything from the BT CD that shows up as Yahoo messenger?
I do not normally see it, as I use an e-mail client to view my mail.

  • Unwanted messages when I'm on internet

When I 'm on the internet at different sites I get messages from unwanted sources saying stuff like your the 45 winner or answer this question to win an ipad or watch or download. I was told it was related to having adobe flash and reader so I took them off and still got these messages so I put them back on. Anyway I still get these unwanted messages I've run Norton 360 full scan and Malaware full scan and they don't help. what else can I do?

It has nothing to do with Reader. It's a pop-up advertisement built by the people that created the website you are visiting.

  • Afghanistan and Unwanted Messages

I receive about 3 different messages from stranger attempting to scam daily! I've already mentioned this here on the forum, and I'm reporting every single one. An earlier email mentioned a Garry Robinson (from 2012), and one of the users had that username as well. Mostly the messages I get mention Afghanistan soldiers' names, but I also get these messages trying to solicit conversations from people/men who most likely are using fraudulent identities. I'm getting annoyed at having to report this so many times a day! What exactly happens after the report goes through? How do I get these people to simply stop contacting me?

unfortunately, there is no option yet to block/filter those truly annoying contact requests, regardless if they are requests from legitimate users or from possible spammers/scammers. The only things you can do at the moment is indeed to ignore and block them (and report them to [email protected]).  The Privacy Settings in Skype can only prevent/stop unwanted calls/instant messages from non-contacts, not contact requests.

  • Unwanted messages and contacts

Ok, so I recently updated skype, etc and have merged it with my msn account. I also use Mac OSX, if it makes any difference.
The past few days, when I sign into Skype, I get messages from a yahoo account and an msn account:
    [edited for privacy]
They've also managed to add themselves to my contact list, despite me not accepting them as contacts, and deleting them every single time. The option to block these contacts is also unavailable, so I am unable to block or report these accounts, excepting by mentioning them in here.
I have EVERYTHING set to contacts only, and my status is not broadcasted online, so by my reckoning, I shouldn't be receiving anything but messages from contacts. If anyone can suggest a solution to this very annoying problem, I'd be very greatful. Else, I'm going to have to go back to Mac Messenger for now, or just give up entirely on messaging.

I think most of this Scam & Spam is directly from Skype, they mabe get money for it. Something like ADs messages from those spammers, or i dont know. Its obvious they wont do anything against them so they must work together.
Moderator Note: The accusation, above, is unfounded and not true.  As a VoIP provider, Skype has nothing to gain from participating in such schemes.
by the way, does the Block & "report for abuse" checkbox do anything? Why is the need to send extra an EMAIL to [email protected]? I dont get it, what is the checkbox for then? Why make it so complicated for ppl to deal with skype scam... this program is so bad, i still dont understand why this crap ever became so popular.

  • Instant Messenger - Instant Messaging IM Client in...

    Dear All,
Somebody tell me how to find IM client in N97. I had this IM client hidden in my previous Firmware. I used to find from HELP menu. After updating this new firmware, almost everything worked fine but IM client is missing even from Hidden. I want to use Yahoo Messenger. Kindly avoid giving me advice on getting some third party messaging clients. I have lots. Not satisfied with those. Kindly give me some ideas to make one or find one which is from NOKIA or YAHOO. This is absolutely ridiculous to ignore the importance of IM. NOKIA has come up with a cheap firmware, it works like something created in late 2007. And its hardware, they could have come up with 256MB RAM and 600 MHz Processor. I feel ashamed to get the first N97 in my city. No Multi touch. I wonder what nokia's R&D is doing. We have paid to its R&D with our previous NOKIA mobile phones to get this output?

Which "installer" precisely refuses the IP address (what is the name of the installer)?
What version of software are you trying to install (e.g. instant messaging 7.2 that comes with comm-suite-5 for example)?
What version of OS are you running (cat /etc/redhat-release)?

  • List unwanted messages senders

Hi, can I somehow retrieve the list as my provider says the server gets overloaded because of it. Simply deleting the list only does the trick for a short period.. Thanks, Paul

Well, senders get a reply that my inbox is full and then on the webmail facility of my provider it says (in Dutch) that the list of unwanted email senders is exceeding 'the server space' and that I should contact the administrator. Once I delete all messages via that facility, send, received, unwanted, all it still says I take up some space (probably the data pertaining to the unwanted senders) but the box is 95% empty again. On Mac mail I cannot seem to see where the problem comes from, but supposedly it send the unwanted list to my providers server..

  • RECEIVING UNWANTED MESSAGES

Please could someone help me.  This is about my 5th attempt at trying to solve this problem.  I get about 6 messages a day from people I don't know wanting to connect with me.  I would like to know how they can see I have a skype account, and how do I stop this happening.  I obviously block these people, but get new ones every day.  How does this happen.  I have no idea how to look up who is on skype that I don't know.  How do they do it?  It is very very irritating!  Thanks for any help and advice.Kim

Hi, and welcome to the Community!
Unfortunatly, I, too, received several unsolicited and unwelcome contact invitations per week, and I appreciate the interruption and frustration.    The proverbial "thin grey line" between making ourselves completely invisible and being able to be found by our friends and colleagues is where the unscrupulous slip in using the Add a Contact feature, and then send us those unwanted invitations.
Please not only block these unwanted contacts, but also check in the Report as Abuse block!  Doing so alerts Skype immediately to users who are abusing the process, so action can swiftly be taken.  Please also see this information:

  • HT1379 How can I get rid of an unwanted message?

When my system starts up I see a message that says, "The disc you inserted was not readable by this computer." I had an external DVD drive but detached it and it still gives me the message. The machine (a new iMac 27") doesn't even have a disc drive! How can I get rid of it?

Does it happen if you boot with the Shift key held down to get into Safe Mode (if your keyboard is wireless, hold the Shift key after you hear the boot chimes and not before)? Additionally, try creating a new user account in the Users & Groups system preferences and then reboot and log into that account. When you do so, does the same message show up?

  • Unwanted messages showing up in Drafts folder

Hi there. I've been having a problem for a while now, and when switching computers it followed me, so I figure enough is enough. In Mail, I have old messages, both ones that I've sent and ones I've received, showing up in the Drafts folder. I can go in and delete it (only one shows up at a time), but as soon as I click out of the Drafts folder, another one appears.
It's not really a life-threatening problem, obviously, but it's kind of obnoxious. Any ideas? I saw in a couple of other posts that it was possible to go into the Preferences and uncheck something in Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors that had something to do with Drafts, but I don't see anything in there.
    Thanks.
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff.
There is a kind of index corruption that causes messages to randomly appear in a mailbox different from where they’re supposed to be. The most amazing (and apparently also the most common) variant of the problem is the messages appearing in Outbox, which causes Mail to think they’re waiting to be sent and dutifully proceed to try to send them. It looks like the “destination” mailbox is Drafts in your case, but the problem is almost certainly the same.
This is not to be confused with the problem of a copy of sent messages remaining in Drafts after having sent them, which apparently only affects IMAP accounts set to store drafts on the server, and which can by “fixed” by telling Mail to store drafts locally instead.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.
