Just downloaded PS CS5 on my new 64 bit computer. A lot of my basic filters are grayed out and I don't have access to them. Filters such as distort,brushes,artistic to name a few. I did download the 32 bit & 64 bit version. Should

R_Kelly is probably right. Adobe has neglected to update many of the older filters to handle deep data formats.
But if you're unsure whether this is your issue, do a screen grab and post it here showing your image and the menus.

PhotoShop Filters grayed out when using Aperture

I sent some photos from Aperture to PS to add some frames. Used the Texture filter and all went well for 3 photos. Then it quit working. Some of the filters are grayed out. I tried the same thing from Lightroom and it was the same. All worked fine with iPhoto. If I export the photos to another folder, desk top etc., then open them in PS, all the filters are working. But for some reason some of the filters will not work when opening a photo from Aperture to PS.
Any suggestion why some filters would quit when they worked before?

That's because you have ACR set to 8 bit and you have Aperture set to 16 bit. (Clicking the text that looks like a web link at the bottom of the ACR window is how you change it)
You could change Aperture's external editor preferences to send 8 bit instead of 16 bit.
Or
Once in Photoshop you could change it: Image>> Mode >> 8 Bit as I think Steve was suggesting.

Can't quit Photoshop and most tools are grayed out too!

Pretty much everytime I am working on a document in Photoshop, something happens and
most of the tools get grayed out, including Quit. I have to force quit to get out of it and reopen to do more changes.
Any suggestions?

Still can't figure this out... It's getting embarrasing in front of clients.
I"m running version 11.0.2 on OSx 10.6.4.

Filters Grayed Out...

I was having the same issue though I just opened a photo and all the sudden over half my filters were not working. After delving into things a bit I came across this post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3051769#3051769 - My photo was in RGB but for some reason it was in 16bits/Channel and that caused my filters to gray out.
What disturbs me is the fact that I have not changed it to 16 and no one else uses this computer, in fact I have worked with this photo before without issue. Only thing I can think of I have changed recently is to install the latest version of camera raw that is still in beta (version 6.6)
So why and how did this get changed? Did I do something inadvertently to cause this?
Note: I am on Windows XP 32bit running PS CS5.1

Actually, as a career software engineer I'm kind of a adamant about getting to the root cause of anything that doesn't go as expected, and lo and behold there are virtually always reasonable explanations for why things do what they do. I realize not everyone is equipped to do so.
I find I'm personally a LOT more prone to error than the computer itself. You sure you weren't looking to change something else up in the Image - Mode menu and accidentally hit 16 bits/channel instead, and just didn't notice it?
Beyond my personal experience, I don't recall hearing any other reports on this forum about images changing depth on their own.

Do you mean the "POP or IMAP" bullet is grayed out?
If this is the case, please open your registry editor and check if the following registry values exist and the value data is set to 1:
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Options
Name: DisableIMAP
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Options
Name: DisablePOP3
If this is the case, change the value data of the two values to 0 and then test the issue again.
Please let me know the result.

Grayed out Photoshop CS2 on Creative Suite install disk

I had to uninstall Creative Suite CS2 because I wanted to try CS5. Come to find out after a lot of frustration unable to do because I have a G5 that does not have an intell processor. When I tried to reload the Creative Suite CS2 the Photoshop was grayed out. Unable to click onto it to install. Any suggestions? I am a web and graphic desighner with no photoshop! UGH! Please respond. Thank you

If you find no other option, try cleaning up your machine and then run the installer again. Following kb will help you to cleanup your machine manually -

Or if you are able to run CS5 cleaner tool and you have *NO* other Creative Suite product installed. Click 'Clean all' button for CS3/CS4 and CS5. You can download the cleaner tool from the following location -

Also empty your trash before running the CS2 installer.

"Flash out of date" comes up, new install, and will not accept Password for install? Next step?

"Flash out of date" comes up, i do a new install, the log-in and password windows pops up, I type in password and it will not accept.
I have changed password, confirmed password, rebooted several times, and it still will not re-insall new version.
I am stuck.

Artistic effects Filters grayed out in my PhotoShop CS3

Unlike PhotoShop versions I use at work now (CS2), and in the past, my Adobe CS3 loaded onto my personal Macbook Pro (v 10.4.11 - 2.33 GhZ Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MhZ DDR2 SDRAM) is not allowing me access to special effects filters for enhancing some art I have recently designed in the same app. I went to Preferences menu and located a dialog box which appeared to be a launch for accessing the effects filters. I was interested in applying brush stroke or texture to my art. There was a live blank box for entering the Serial No of my CS3 Suite. You'd think that the requested serial no. that was printed on the sticker on the back of the DVD jacket would be what I needed, but not. I was given a message that I had entered the incorrect serial no. Can someone answer either or both of these dilemmas? Many thanks! Bob

If you bought an upgrade, you need both serials numbers, the old one for CS3 and the new one for CS4.

HT1338 I have happily been using Airdrop and printing wirelessly to my Epson WF 7520 printer until this morning when I started my Quad Core 2.4 and got the wireless icon grayed out with a "wi-fi not installed" message. Restarts do nothing. Ideas?

Anyone else having issues with their wi-fi suddenly disappearing?
Is this really a hardware issue out of the blue or could this be a software bug?

Distribute grayed out in Photoshop CS5

Is there a reason this would be greyed out, both the toolbar icons and under layer -> distribute?
As I understand it, you actually need layers selected for this to work -- but that doesn't change anything. I've tried selecting multiple layers, I've tried selecting multiple layers with an area selected in the document. Nothing. The align tools work but distribute tools remain greyed out. Is there something I'm missing?

Boy do I feel dumb. This is definitely it. When I previously tried three layers, one was locked, otherwise I was only selecting two. Thanks!

MobileMe grayed out when trying to make new album..

Seems after the iTunes, iPod, MobileMe update, I haven't been able to subscribe to a MobileMe web gallery through iPhoto. Also, the one web gallery that is still subscribed is not showing up in iTunes when my iPod touch is plugged in. Just curious as to what is going on.. Thanks a lot.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Apple just released updates to the iApps. You can download them from Apple Downloads site. Apply them and try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
      left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
        the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
      the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
            because it is three times faster than wireless.

It would be very difficult to put down everything you are required to do in a response, work through the attached note with guidance from the SAP Best Practice Building Blocks as specified.

Almost all Access Connection controls grayed out

Hi folks,
Could use some help. I have a T-60 and Access Cnnections 4.23a. Worked fine until recently and now most contrals are grayed out. For example, in manage profiles I cannot create, edit or delete.
I can switch profiles and I do connect, but even items like update AC are grayed.
These kind of things scare me a bit. I am loathe to uninstall or update manually as I have a number of connections and cannot even view them to copy before I try and I would hate to try to remember the ssids, passwords, etc. And worse, chance losing connectivity.
Can anyone help here?
If it comes down to removing AC, I have not used windows networking in so liong I forget how that functions. Can I make all these profiles in Windows? Will it switch automatically (my favorite feature of AC)?

Ort Express- my network suddenly not showing up. System preferences, advanced/network shows network. Opened Airport Utility options grayed out except configure other but no luck. No set up assistant option to reenter. Not sure where to go from here?.

My network suddenly not showing up. Openend system preferences/Network & my network is there. When I open Airport Utility, most option are grayed out except "configure other" with no change. Utility does not provide option for setup assistant where I could just start over. So no wifi without network set up and can't use ethernet/router to troubleshoot. I am stuck any assistance helpful.

So I went back to the PC after my original post, and somehow I was able to connect to the AirPort wireless network in the Windows Wireless Network List. Once I did this, it showed up in the AirPort Utility, and I was able to access the internet. I have no idea what fixed the problem, but maybe it was simply a matter of waiting a few minutes before connecting to the network?
