Re: Motherboard replacement for G5?

I have recently had some problems with my 1.8Ghz DP G5. The RAM started to drop and now when i turn it on i get 3 flashes from the power button and no startup. I was wondering if it possible to find out what the 3 flashes are and if you can order a new board for the G5?
Any help would be appreciated.

hi there--
what do you mean by the ram "started to drop"? according to this article from the kbase http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302527 the flashes are a post (power-on-self-test) ram error. either your ram is bad or incompatible. try removing any added ram and then see if you can get started up. Everything is not working fine, and a pop with sparks is not a normal result from turning on a power supply. If you got it from Tiger send it back and get this one.
I talked to the rep earlier, but I had to go to a meeting. When I called him back he said he was on the phone with Intel to make sure my CPU would work with that board. I know it will work so I have no clue why he called them. He didn't seem to concerned about the PSU though. I told him that the PSU popped and made sparks and it didn't phase him at all. I already told him I wanted to exchange the RAM with different kind and I wanted a new PSU. When I give him the new RAM and the PSU I want I will give this one a try.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Motherboard replacement for G62

I have an HP G62 laptop computer. It stopped working a few months ago so I bought anothe laptop.
There is a blue led light that blinks once every 3 seconds which apparently means the motherboard has been damaged or is not functioning.
I am wondering if I can replace and upgrade the motherboard to get the thing working again. I don't want to just replace with a like for like but would like to upgrade to a better processor etc at the same time if the cost is not too much.
Is there a list of motherboards that will fit in the case of this laptop that I can consider purchasing?
Does this make sense as a project or would I be wasting my time and effort?
The case and the monitor are in excellent shape so I  would like to consider this as a project. I have put together desktop PCs before but not upgraded a laptop.

Yes thats what i thought but i only have 77 days left on my garentee so its a worry, and have to drive 1 hour to get to closest Apple shop, spent the whole day there today when i should have been at work and have to make the drive again on Monday Then back again next Friday to pick it up. I paid over £1000 ponds for this computer so wouldnt expect it to have its insides replaced befor a year. Feel very let down, and no longer love my macbook pro.

  • Powerbook g4 1.67ghz motherboard replacement 4 time and still problems

My powerbook g4 1.67 has had a series of duff motherboards since the first replacement due to the problems with it's memory slot (a well known fault) and since then has had 3 additional motherboards fitted and the present one has heat issues that result in the fans never terminating once active.
I spoke to apple customer services and they told me they will repair it once more and if it's not fixed they are unsure what will happen after that, I phoned back as politely asked for a replacement laptop but they refused on the grounds that it's more than 12 months old.
They gave me the uk Apple Operations postal address, and told me to take it up with them, they also said that I won't get that far in a roundabout way.
Is there anything I can do to get a replacement or am I completely screwed on this? Any suggestions would be very helpful.
    regards
    Stefan

Hi, Steven, and welcome to Apple Discussions. I suspect that if Apple has agreed to replace your logic board once more at no charge, you won't progress to any next step that involves anything different until you've allowed that step to go forward and it has failed to solve the problem. After five logic boards and no resolution, I can't imagine how anyone could fail to agree that a replacement was justified. Just be sure to keep all your contacts civil and within the bounds of propriety, whatever happens, and keep all your documentation of what's been done and when.
I don't know hether it would be possible, now or at any later time, for Apple to replace your PB with another of the same model. A replacement for it might have to be a MacBook or MacBook Pro, which would bring with it some issues of its own. If things get to that point, be sure to inform yourself about those issues to avoid nasty surprises.

  • My '08 17" macbook pro motherboard replacement has issues

my mac had its motherboard replaced by the recall a couple years back and since i got it back it has been restarting on it's own, if have too much pressure on the keyboard or if the surface under (table) isn't perfectly level.
ONce it restarts - it won't stop until it's level and been powered off and on several times.
I had been living with this problem for the past 2 years as of this february (I believe) until it stopped for 24hrs 3 weeks ago and I was forced to buy again.
My buddy told me it could be because apple hired a 3rd party company to handle the replacements of the recalled motherboards and they neglected to tape a cable that causes the power surge to restart my mac or that they didn't solder the connection.
How can i fix this issue?

    Sorry, let me clarify.
Yes, it was the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT recall
It works, but suffers from restarts when moved from one location to another and must be restarted over and over until the power from the surge stops.
I want to figure out how to fix myself (I do alot of iphone repairs and can handle small fixes) or if needed through apple or a 3rd party.
I need it fixed completely, because I'm sending this to my computer illiterate mother.

  • Lenovo B560 motherboard replacement

    Hi,
My dear laptop died on me about a month ago. It wouldn't do anything when pressing the power button and the power led would not light when connected to power. Tried with or without the battery, no led, no power. I checked with another cable and I checked my cable on another laptop and it worked so the issue has nothing to do with the power cable.
I took the laptop to my universities repair shop for a diagnosis and they said the Motherboard is dead.
Any suggestion where I could find a brand new motherboard replacement in the UK?

  • HP G5056EA motherboard replacement

    Hi Guys,
I'm replacing my motherboard as its dead, no sign of life when power cable is plugged in, it shows that charger is plugged in by illuminating power sign on the led screen where hdd light, power on lights are.
so assuming need a new motherboard. I've bought new one now struggling to open the laptop to get it out. I have removed
every possible visible screws from the back but it seems like one or two screws are holding it up from the middle of the laptop which It seems like they're screwed from below the keyboard.
I would apprecaite if someone can show me how to get this motherboard out, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't think I will ever receive reply from HP tech support as I have rang them and they were unable to help me.
So far I have bought 18 laptops for my business and guess what all of them had one or the other issue. 2 of them needed motherboard replacing within 2 months,
Based on my experience with HP products and especially HP tech Support, I would never recommend anyone to buy any HP product from now on.

  • Yoga 2 Pro motherboard replacement -- are different configs interchangeable?

I bought a Yoga 2 Pro laptop in February 2014 (so it's out of warranty) -- Core i5 with 8GB of RAM. Unfortunately, 2 days ago it randomly turned off (with the keyboard backlight and power button LED flashing about every 3 seconds).  I've been able to turn it back on twice, but the problem still persists. From looking around this forum, the problem is likely faulty RAM, which means a motherboard replacement is in order.I am unable to find the exact same motherboard for sale online, but I found the Core i7 with 8GB RAM version. Are the two motherboards interchangeable?  Has anyone successfully done this? Thanks in advance!

Despite lack of an answer, I went ahead and bought the i7 version.  I can confirm the two are indeed interchangeable. So, if you're looking to upgrade your existing Yoga 2 pro, it can be done via a motherboard replacement (though not exactly cheaply). My laptop now works again (knock on wood that it won't start acting up again).  However I can't say that I've been impressed with its quality so far  Forgot to mention: taking my laptop apart and putting it back together again fixed a minor screen alignment issue (screen was not 100% aligned with base when closed).  It always bugged me (though not enough to RMA), and I'm not sure why it shipped out new from the factory like that but I'm glad I was able to fix this as well.

  • Satellite M30: Power Saver options missing after motherboard replacement

    Hi all,
I've just received my laptop back from the service center, and unsurprisingly they stuffed up a feature that used to exist!
I had taken my laptop (M30 1.7GHz Special Edition) to the repair center for a defect and they informed me that the motherboard needed to be replaced. I received the laptop back a couple of days ago and I immediately noticed the laptop getting overheated, the fan did not turn on as frequently as it used to when setting the profile to "Full Power".
After hours of investigation, I noticed that a few options that used to exist in the Toshiba Power Saver does NOT exist anymore. Thus, I feel my laptop is running as in battery optimised even though it's set to full power.
As I said, the fan is not turning on as frequently, leading to the laptop getting overheated. While the fan used to be almost constantly ON on full power prior to the replacement of the motherboard.
Here's how the power saver used to look like "prior" to taking the laptop to the repair center:
    http://www.foxpop.com/imre/2006/toshibatecram3review/toshibapowersaver1.gif
And here's how the power saver looks like now, after the replacement of the motherboard:
    http://www.ixbt.com/portopc/toshiba-satellite/power.png
with the CPU processing speed maximum of 3, instead of 4.
Notice how I'm now missing the "CPU control method" option, and I'm unable to set the processing speed to more than level 3!
The cooling method does not seem maximum performance to me either, due to the symptoms I mentioned above.
Any idea on why that might have happend? Please note that I used the system recovery CD and returned everything to the factory settings, still no luck. I'm sick and tired of going back to their lousy repair center. If someone can point out the problem I will be very grateful.
P.S. I'm using version 7 of the power saver, BIOS verion 1.4 (original)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
I wonder why you did not contact the service guys again.
After the reparation everything should works fine and if the notebook does not run properly you should immediately report it! In my opinion its a warranty claim.
However, in my knowledge after the motherboard replacement the micro code on the board must be updated therewith the CPU could run with full performance.
What CPU speed appears in the windows system?
Im not 100% sure if the missing microcode update is responsible for your problem but I would recommend asking the ASP for opinion.

  • QuickJog 1.0 - Shuttle/Jog Replacement for Premiere CS6... almost

quickJog 1.0 - "fixing what Adobe broke in CS6"
    a shuttle/jog replacement for Premiere/Prelude CS6
    * see below for download links and instructions *
    Introduction
I'll waste no time in expressing my opinion on this one: I loved the jog control in previous versions of Premiere, and a small part of my heart died when I realised that those beloved controls couldn't be reinstated in CS6 (though an ever larger chunk died when I realised that Q and W don't work by default in Prelude... ).
JKL is great as a concept, but in practice, not very responsive - it's difficult to make precise jumps in speed quickly, and I'd hate to log footage in CS6 using the JKL keys alone.
It was whilst reading through a different thread on the forums that I had an idea. Why not just jog with the middle mouse button? REAPER uses a similar idea to great effect for scrubbing.
    And so the journey began.
    Installing/using quickJog
    Pre-requisites
Glovepie is only available for Windows. The script, therefore, only works on Windows.
    Sorry Mac users.
To use quickJog, you'll need to download the following:
GlovePie, from glovepie.org. Doesn't matter whether you grab the version with or without emotiv support, as long as it's a recent version
The quickJog script, from bit.ly/getQuickJog (unreserved thanks go to Creative Inlet Films for hosting this)
    A mouse with a middle-mouse button/clickable scroll wheel
    You'll also need to ensure:
The JKL keys have not been re-mapped in Premiere. This is essential, as quickJog 'presses' the JKL keys to alter the jog speed in Premiere.
    Installation/usage
    Is currently as simple as...
    Start Glovepie
From the File menu, select Open...
Navigate to wherever you unzipped the quickJog script. Open it.
    Click the Run button
Click the [ .] button at the end of the menu bar to minimise Glovepie to the system tray
To shuttle, click on the program monitor, source monitor or trim monitor, and scroll the mouse wheel. This functionality is built-into Premiere. You can hold Shift for bigger jumps.
To jog, click and hold the middle-mouse button over the source monitor, program monitor, or timeline, and move left or right to increase/decrese the jog speed (just like the old jog slider).
QuickJog tracks the position of the mouse itself, not the position of your mouse cursor, so don't worry about the cursor touching the edge of your screen.
Keep your eyes on the video, not the mouse!
To exit, right-click the glovePie icon, and select Exit.
quickJog works in Prelude too, which is pretty cool.

HOW AWESOME WOULD SOME EXTRA BITS OF INFORMATION BE FOR THE WORLD? Like information on how to tweak the configuration variables??
Pretty awesome, I'd say James. Have you thought about actually writing this section, then?
    Paha! Don't be crass.
    Aww.

    I stand humbly informed!
In hindsight, I'm not surprised that the JKL keys are a popular choice amongst editors (especially for those who've moved across from other NLEs), but it does rest somewhat uncomfortably in my heart. It feels like Adobe have replaced the pedals and gearstick in my car with a keyboard: not great for those moments when a child runs into the road.
The Shuttle Pro (and Bella to my knowledge?) controllers emulate left/right arrow keypresses to do their work, making the playback 'glitchy' during shuttle operations - I don't like that. I didn't particularly like the feel of the Shuttle Pro when I tried it either. I do like controllers like this (I have one), but have been working for some time on interfacing between the Sony 9-pin protocol and Premiere.
As such, my intermediate preference has been to use a graphics tablet (with a keyboard) for NLE work - hence why having the jog/shuttle controls on screen was so darn useful! Now that I have quickJog mapped to the stylus eraser, edits are much faster.
Quick aside: Huge commendations on just how much can be mapped to keyboard shortcuts in Premiere, huzzah!

  • New Macbook a good replacement for 12" Powerbook?

I think, besides the inch in display difference, that the new macbook WOULD HAVE made a GREAT GREAT GREAT replacement for users loving or wanting the portability, yet pro versatility of the old 12" Powerbooks. I think however that Apple has missed the mark in one BIG BIG WAY! Firewire. People who wanted something like the 12" powerbook wanted the power of the Macbook Pro in a smaller package. Apple hit the nail on the head with incorporating the same graphics performance, by using aluminum, by making it lighter, and by putting in the illuminated keyboard (only in the 2.4 model though). But on the last detail, they missed it. Firewire. there is no workaround. period. Why preload the systems with iMovie when you can't import video from MOST modern digital camcorders? WITHOUT EVEN introducing a new port with adapters (like they did with the Display Port). I think I would've sold my old macbook pro and had instantly purchased the new macbook if Apple had just included that one VITAL port. I would even prefer them putting it in the place of one of the two USB ports. But without being able to import video from my NEW minidv, there is just no way i could buy that macbook and call myself a proud mac owner. What kind of digital hub would that be? Isn't your slogan "works right out of the box."...? what do you guys think about the new macbook being a 12" powerbook replacement??

I have the same situation. I wanted to upgrade from my 12" Powerbook and would move up to the 13" screen of the new MacBook (15" is much too big for my needs). Another family member has the 15" Powerbook and has always liked my smaller size. I was ready to order 2 of the 13" MacBooks and was then stunned to see that Firewire was missing. I have a Sony DV camcorder for movies. It appears Apple expects me to use my old Powerbooks to input the video into iMovie and then transfer it over to my new MacBook. This is not the cutting edge Apple Computer Company that I have been a customer of for 25 years.
If Apple wants to add firewire to the new MacBooks, develop a USB / Ethernet to firewire adapter, or add a 13" MacBook Pro (w/ firewire) to the line-up, they will have a customer. Otherwise, I will hold onto my old Powerbooks until this is corrected.

  • APEX Listener as a replacement for modplsql ?

Will APEX Listener ever be, or is it able to be now, a replacement for modplsql driven applications that are not APEX. It seems that it already takes care of everything needed to be a full scale modplsql replacement... In all honesty looking to see if it is possible to reduce the future licensing load on some of my clients if they wanted to build more redundancy into their front-end web applications. They wouldn't be reducing what they pay, as they are still in for the Forms installs in app server, but they are inhibited on their redundancy growth outward since adding new licenses to cover these new servers would be cost prohibitive. This is mainly a third-party product (SGHE's Self-Service Banner) that is driven off of modplsql, so rewrite isn't an option.
    Thanks for your input,
    -Richard

As of the last EA version, it depends on which modplsql features your application uses. The main modplsql features that are not yet supported are:
Basic database authentication - The listener must be configured with a single username and password and cannot dynamically change the database connection at run time.
Multiple DADS - Each listener is configured for one and only one database connection. However, there is a way to install multiple copies of the listener, and configure each for a different database connection.
Dynamic parameter passing - There must be a one to one relationship between fields on an HTML form (or query string variables in the URL) and the non-defaulted parameters of the called procedure. Name and Value arrays, with the "!" before the procedure name in the URL are not supported.
CGI environment variables in the DAD.
Oracle MAY support some or all of these features in the production version, or in some future version. We can probably influence this by telling Oracle what we want - but no guarantees. Kris Rice tells me that the APEX Listener was written to be extendable, so once Oracle gives us some documentation of how to extend it, some enterprising programmer may add some of these features as an extension.
