Personally I do think the problem could be with your RAM. You have 1.65V and specs call for 1.5V RAM. There are even some low voltage (1.35V) listed for that MB. 1 example is: HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memor...

Hi, I'm trying to fix my computer (it freezes on every operating system all of a sudden), and I need to use the USB boot to load Linux Live and Windows installation (both froze as well). The problem is that it'll take the USB just once in a while, and that is causing me a big loss of time to make the tests and a headache. First thing I did was memtest and I found corrupt memory, thus I replaced the DIMM. But the freezing is still there.
Do you have any hint? I know it's a double question but at least if the USB boot was working all the time it'd be a lot faster to load stuff and try to fix the problem.
Thanks for your hints!Quote from: Henry on 04-October-11, 07:26:40
First thing tell us what the rest of the PC consists of.
I didn't think the rest of my hardware would matter with the USB boot problem, anyway:
1.D BIOS
Athlon 64 3000+
512 mb ddr PC3200
Geforce4 MX 440 AGP
300W power supply
Maxtor 250 GB IDE

Satellite A660 - USB boot problems after BIOS update
Hello,
I own a Toshiba Satellite A660 and recently have update the BIOS to the latest version (1.80). Since then the notebook will freeze on the boot screen (the one with the Toshiba logo) whenever a USB flash memory is attached.
It works without the flash memory connected and also if I connect it after I enter the boot menu or the BIOS setup. I can even boot from it like this.
As far as I am concerned this is a serious regression. Is there any way I can downgrade the BIOS version, or any other way to fix this issue ? I rely heavily on external USB drives.
Regards,
Claudiu.I too am having problems with my A660 since upgrading to 1.80 bios - the HDD/SD utility, the pc health monitor and half the other toshiba utilities no longer work because they can't recognize the bios and actually tell me this... I get an error message telling me ''can't get bios type''...
On top of this I get the boot problem as well - I have to unplug half of my USB devices to get the laptop to boot properly...
And now - one month into owning my new A660 - after a hard drive failure, a problem with the Broadcom internal wireless adaptor I now have the internal TV tuner no longer working and have no idea how to fix it...
My gut feeling is that the sooner I can downgrade to the original factory bios the BETTER - and wait for another bios update to come along that is not faulty/buggy...
HOPE someone can help me with this...

Hey Folks
I've created a bootable USB stick with Ubuntu on it. I was able to boot from this stick with my 2011 Macbook Air and it worked fine. However when I try the same from my 2009 Mac Mini the USB stick doesn't show up when booting while pressing alt. I'm running OS X 10.9.4 on boWhat's the problem and how can I install Ubuntu from my USB stick?I also have a 2009 Mini, it is currently running Mavericks and hosting a Server 2012 VM and processing a Bitcoin blockchain.
The only thing I've done to it is put in a solid state drive for Mavericks to run on and the VM is running on an external Firewire drive.
So, running Ubuntu from the MacOS, is a walk in the park to this generation of Mac Mini.
As to why it doesn't USB boot, I don't know off the top of my head... some older Macs don't have the same boot options?? -
MOVED: MSI-KM4M-V Boot Problems
This topic has been moved to AMD SocketA based board.
MSI-KM4M-V Boot ProblemsFredrik:
Thanks for backing me up while I was out of the forum.
Usually, when I clean my cpu, I use a Q-tip damped with Isopropyl alcohol and then remove the remaining grease on the processor die. For the heatsink, I use the same Q-tip or a piece of damped cotton with isopropyl alcohol also.
I like the idea of the nailpolish remover since it makes sense because it can remove even the toughest resin.
See you later, and I hope our new friend has sorted the problem.

MSI K8N Diamond - Boot problems with USB devices attached.
Hi There.
I have been seeking the forums, but havent found the answer to my problem yet.
This is how it goes with ANY USB devices attached to either of the four USB ports on the Motherboard.
When i turn on my system, it hangs in the POST right after displaying the BIOS version (Which I have updated to 1.6) - I cant use my Keyboard to get to the BIOS setup.
Without USB devices attached...
The system boots without problems. And in Windows XP SP2 i can insert my keyboard, mouse etc. and everything works great - both USB 1.1 & 2.0 devices.
I have disabled the KB/USB.. in BIOS and I have disabled the "Boot on other device" option as well.
As I have found on this forum, a lot of people have problems with USB Front panel and D-Bracket (USB ports) connectors causing the system to hang - But my D-Bracket (USB connectors) and my front USB port is at this time DISCONNECTED - so this cannot be the problem.
The D-Bracket shows the "Bios Sign On" information - and stops at that point
Am I having a malfunctioning Motherboard here, or are there any solutions to this problem?
Please help me as I am desperate to have my system work properly.
Regards
StieperWell I have read about that somewhere in here, but my problem is NOT with an USB hub, but with any USB device attached to the motherboard's USB slots. It is driving me nuts to be honest!! I think it might be time for RMA
What do you say guys - is my Motherboard ready for RMA, or do I have to try something specific berfore sending it to the retailer?? -
Hi.
I have given the main PC sig below to my son. And I now have / building
MSI K9N DIAMOND AM2 nvidia nForce 590 SLI 8channel audio DDR2 ATX
Corsair 1GB DDR2-6400 128Mx64 non-ECC 240 DIMM unbuffered 5-5-5-12
AMD 2x 5600 cpu
I have kept the PSU, wifi card.
(will update when up and running.)
When I put his harddrive (SATA) into his new PC it saw it straight away and booted into xp,without having to reinstall . Great.
I put my drive into the new AM2 board and I get three beeps (I read that's the USBs)
Then it either just hangs on a black screen or if i enable raid it tries then the BSOD code 0x0000007E which i believe is just a standard error message.
The D-bracket has 4 green lights...
does anyone know why I cant just boot up my drive like i could with my sons, is it because i'm switching to AM2 from 939?
When I enter the raid setup (F10) it can see the drive but next to where it says bootable drive which is normally a yes or a no it has N/A and I cannot change it.
I belive it is a raid/ driver problem I'm thinking its the AM2 upgrade.
I did not get any floppy raid drivers with my mo/bo.
If I reinstalled Xp would I need to install raid drivers during setup? (F6)
I have clears cmos
Many thanks for any help.hello
I plugged my sons drive into my K9N Diamond and it is saying the same thing in the raid setup (F10) .....When you have the option to set as the bootable drive
Quote "set as boot drive N/A"
It can see the drive OK, I can delete array and rebuild it
Is there something in the bios that I need to tick or untick/ enable for it to boot from the drive?
any help would be great.
thanks -
MSI X48C Platinum booting problems
Hello all,
First of all, I tried using the searchfunction multiple times and didn't find anything helpful.
So I hope you guys can try and help me with this problem since it's a real pain in the ass.
I built a new setup using:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300
OCZ Reaper PC3 10666 DDR3 2x2GB
OCZ ModXtream Pro 600W
WD 80GB SATA HDD
XFX 9800GTX+
The system booted fine until it got to the POST-screen with the MSI logo. I googled and figured that the Q8300 was not supported and I had to update the BIOS.
With that being said, I got a replacement CPU (C2D E6600) and tried to boot the system. But I gave me and beep-errorcode; 2 short beeps 6 long beeps, no videosignal
I thought it was either the RAM, videocard or the CPU,
so I replaced the RAM with; DDR2 RAM (Kingston KVR800D2N6/2G)/OCZ PC2 8500 1GB (using the Turbocards for DDR2)
the videocard with: ATI HD 5470
and the CPU with a Pentium 6 630
How many times I tried swapping components, it didn't really matter. The system would still give me these cursed 2 shorts beeps and 6 long beeps.
What I've tried so far;
Clearing the CMOS using: https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/how-to-clear-the-cmos
Removing the CMOS battery
Switching between hardwarecomponents as stated above
Reseating the same memory multiple times
In short:
Errorbeep-code: 2 short beeps and 6 long beeps, no videosignal
Really hope you guys can help me,
Thanks.Confirm that you tested your Power Supply in another system.
Have you tested the MB outside the case, just resting on a non-conductive surface. -
MSI-6590 USB & Overclocking problem
Got two things for a real long time messed up on my computer:
the first: my keyboard (Logitech Internetkeys USB) won't always work when booting up when it is connected
the computer just boots etc but the USB port where it is plugged in (and others to) won't work anymore, but when i unplug it, press the powerbutton and just after less than a sec plug it in, it always works fine
sometimes it does work when it is plugged in, got this going on for like two years now... just wondered if it could be fixed in a simple way or that anyone recognizes the problem
(I'm running latest bios driver and VIA driver)
Second one: when i raise my fsb over 136 my system gets unstable or when I want to "save bios and exit" it just hangs, screen goes out, no image, no beeps, nothing, after resetting bios by shorting the two pins on my mainboard everything just works as normal
I know that 133fsb is the normal correct speed but as I am planning to buy a new board (the diamond series board) I wanted to know how far I could push this system
(I have a 350watt power supply, it came with the case (Codegen) the whole case incl PSU came at 59.9€ two years ago)
Hope someone can help me with either one of the probs
Grtzjust added the drive etc info on my last reply srry I didn't think of that rightaway
Now you mention it, it really makes sence (or however you spell that word) still strange tough that even after a while the usb ports won't "powerup"... But it is true that most times the thingy still works is when i reboot after about a few mins shut down, and transistors do tend to keep power for a while before the board is completely "powerless"
when resetting my keyboard also keeps working, gonna trie to boot with mouse (optical also logitech) disconnected, joystick disconnected, maybe my mouse consumes a bit to much when booting up when put all together? dunno, don't really know alot about voltage etc
PS: i am going to upgrade in about a month, but i will fetch me a new psu (because i'm planning on buying a diamond series board so 350watt just won't do it) and a new cooler that fits both sockel A and 939, my temps are ok, even at 136fsb when it's running stable temps is still same as normal +/- 40° on low usage, and +/- 52° at max usage, (depends alot on room temp but bottom line is: no high temps are the problem) -
I recently had my motherboard upgraded to a MSI Z77A-S03. Now, every time the computer starts up, the boot sequence is lost, so I have to enter BIOS and set it.
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 2.40GHz
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580
BIOS Version: E7752IMS V2.10
Drives installed:
SATA2: Corsair CSSD-F115GB2-A ATA (115 GB, NTFS, the drive I want to boot from)
SATA1: Samsung HD103SJ ATA (1 TB, NTFS)
SATA5: Samsung HD103UJ ATA (1 TB, NTFS)
SATA3: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-222AB ATA (DVD)
BIOS can find all the drives, but insists on trying to boot from the DVD.
EDIT: Or possibly from "UEFI: Built-in EFI shell" (whatever that is); boot menu and BIOS setup say differently.Quote from: Svet on 02-December-13, 21:24:49
bump removed.
Sorry.
Quote
have you adjusted your boot priority properly?
Yes, have to do that every time the computer starts up, or it stops with a "Bootmanager not found" error. Every other setting (clock, etc.) seems to survive the reboot. Only the boot priority is lost.
Quote
what's your current bios version?
E7752IMS V2.12
EDIT: Don't know if it's relevant, but I've tried to disconnect the two Samsung drives, to see if any of them are the problem. Made no difference. -
Have they ever fixed usb boot problem?
Is there a fix that I have missed for the fact that it takes 3 minutes to boot up if i have any usb devices attached? I'm tired of sitting here like an idiot with my finger on the delete key waiting for bios, and this problem has been around forever.

I recently bought a P6N SLI and new memory since my current board is getting old
When I got everything assembled and turned it on, all fans and lights started, but there were no beeps and no video
I made sure all power connectors were not loose and tried it with minimum components out of my case, still same problem
tried old memory in case new memory was faulty, no luck
I'm sure all old components are working (using them right now)
sent board in for RMA in case I got a bad board, new one did same thing
since the board didnt come with a D-Bracket, I threw one together (4 LEDs on the red pins, ground on USB) all 4 lit up "System PowerON The D-LED will hang here if the processor is damaged or not installed properly"I am attaching a link to MSI's CPU support page..you can also get there by going to the top of the forum page, to the right of the MSI banner are all the links you need..handy. I would think, that any P4 series or any Core 2 Series CPU would be supported from the initial bios release. The "D" series are a bit out of the mainstream, but are supported once bios is updated. If you have a decent computer repair store, they should be able to pop in a P4 or C2D CPU to get it into bios and flash it. Hey, here's a thought...the Core 2 Duo chips are relatively inexpensive now..you can get a Core 2 Duo E4500 for about $125 US that will run circles around your D805...? Good luck.

This board does not boot up correctly .
Here is what happens:
The boot process starts correctly. First the fans spin up, the bios beeps once, but then a couple of seconds later the pc speaker starts beeping indefinitely and the computer hangs at the MSI splash screen (where it says press del to enter setup- however no keyboard input works).
THe D-Bracket diagnostic LED shows 1 red, 2 green, 3 red, 4 green, which translates to "testing base and extended memory." However, the memory passes the "memory detection test" and appears to be a good stick...unless it is somehow incompatible with this board.

MSI 745 Ultra

ATI Radeon 9000 AGP

Generic 300 watt psu
is the board faulty, I have tried everything mentioned on this forum!Do you have CPU fan that changes it's speed when cpu temp grows higher? My mobo did that b4 i disabled "check cpu fan" from bios. If you have you could try to keep your computer in that beep state untill cpu fan starts rotating fast enough. Then u boot and go to bios and disable "check cpu fan" and then that should work.. But only if you have same problem as i had..

Various MSI H67MA-E45 boot problems
Hi all,
First my specs:
-MSI H67MA-E45 with lastest bios.
-Core i5 2400
-8GB ddr3 g.skill ram
-Seagate 500gb
-xfx 6870 1gb
-Seasonic modular 520w
-Samung dvd burner sata
Here is the issue I have.
When I first got the board, I had boot order set to dvd, then hdd. I would say about once a week, completely out of the blue, the computer would boot into the bios menu instead of the hard drive (DVD burner was empty). Contacted msi support and they suggested having hdd set as first boot device. That solved the issue for couple weeks. Lately, I tried to start the computer and fan would turn but nothing else happened. I had to clear the bios memory so It could POST again. Also once in a while right after the computer POST and MSI splashscreen shows it stop right after and all I see is a flashing "_" in the upper left corner of the screen. I have to hit reset two or three times so it can finally "catch up" and load windows normally of the hdd.
My hdd tested good and are is known good. Did the same with an other PSU...I am lost !
Anyone has any input before I RMA the board?Quote from: Bernhard on 24-January-12, 12:39:52
Which SATA ports are you using and have you tested connecting your drives to SATA II and SATAIII ports ? Have you tested different SATA cables ?
Have you done a CMOS clear, removing the battery dutring the process ? >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
I am using sata3 for my hdd and sata 2 for my dvd. I dont have other cables to try out but beside problems booting, HDD have always behaved fine in windows. CLear CMOS method+battery remove did nothing to help... -
MSI VOX USB driver problem (XP PRO SP2)
When I plug in the VOX to the USB Windows looks for the MSI MS8609 driver, but does not find it (even if it is installed). Then after a while it finds a driver called USB2800. I've tried to uninstall this an reinstall VOX SW but I can not change it into MS8609 !
Have you tried installing the drivers from the MSI website?
The drivers are available >>here<<.
Also, make sure your motherboard drivers are installed properly and that there are no yellow exclamation marks in device manager as that would also explain why the sound card drivers won't install.
