MSI R7950 Twin Frozr III Temp Issues
I have been having issues with my video card (MSI R7950 Twin Frozr III) under load and previously even while idle with temperatures being way higher than they should be. Browsed many forums and it was suggested that I change the thermal paste, which fixed part of the issue (The video card under "normal" load went from 95C to 75-84C while at 90 to 100% load the temperatures rises back up to the 90s). Before changing the thermal paste, the idle temperatures were around 60, under regular load a little over 90 as stated previously.
The video card runs perfectly otherwise which has me thinking it's most likely a problem related to the heatsink and cooler itself.
I'd personally rather avoid RMA if possible so my question is, is it possible for a cooler/heatsink to cause such a high temperature issue and if so, would purchasing an aftermarket cooler fix the problem or could there be other issues leading to the high temperatures other than the cooler/heatsink itself?
Thank you for your time.

Catalyst 12.4After flashing to this vbios, I seem to have gained performance, but the card also seems to be running a bit more hot which could be affected by me being in a different area in the game or slightly higher temperature in my room around the computer, etc.
I haven't tried changing drivers lately, had before when I first was faced with this temperature problem (Have been busy for a while and never bothered trying to figure the issue or try reapplying thermal paste to see if it would fix it until I got time for it recently). I tried both AMD's official drivers, the drivers I had at the time for my 4890 as well and the MSI auto-update software, none of which seemed to fix the heat problem.
If you believe I should try drivers now and see if it can fix the problem once again I don't mind trying. -

The 7950 Twin Frozr 3GD5 uses a custom board design (besides better quality) made for more oc ability. Therefor it is able to consume more power than a reference board only having 2 x 6 Pin
The PEG Slot will allow up to 75 W power consumption while a PCIe 6-Pin will add up to 75 W. So reference board with 2 x 6 pin will be a allowed to consume 225 W power in total (75 W + 2 x 75 W)
An 8-pin PCIe will allow 150 W power consumption what allows up to 300 W in total of power consumption resulting in more headroom for oc on your card.
Yup correct, just remember to add other hardwares like 2500K with 95watt TDP, HDD, Optical Drive and other minor parts like fans -
MSI R7950 Twin Frozr 3GD5 V2 or V2/OC?
I just bought a MSI R7950 Twin Frozr 3GD5 V2/OC. That should have a standard core speed of 880Hz Now when I look in "AMD Vision control center -> Information -> hardware"
Then I see that my core speed is 800Mhz it should be 880Mhz. Do I have a V2 or a V2/OC? serial:602-V277-06SB1210136267

Thank you!Ah, yes you are correct. I just double checked everything and I uploaded the wrong BIOS file and BIOS info (I was messing around with different BIOSes and upped the wrong one). My serial number is 100% correct, though. This is the current one I have:
015.020.000.000.001083 (Download link: https://mega.co.nz/#!31gBjJ7A!Yr3bX088I8I5aSK0CbEF3hSAm3dhWgVfbb0rvw2 kVVQ)
Just out of curiosity, what is the difference between that version and the version of the one I linked which was "015.031.000.001.001867"? Is it a newer version? Or is there a newer version for my particular card? -
I just installed a new MSI R7950 Twin Frozr video card. The DVI output works perfectly, beautiful display and very fast.
My problem is that the secondary display via HDMI is never detected.
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
The 7950 replaced a 6950 that was properly detecting the HDMI. When I changed cards I removed the drivers using Control Panel, swapped cards and installed the 13.1 drivers.
I have tried the 13.2 beta drivers with the same result.
I tried another TV and HDMI cable, both of which work with another device, same result.
It appears that my new card ahs a broken HDMI port. Is there something I'm missing that indicates otherwise?Quote from: flobelix on 09-February-13, 00:54:14
Waht happens if you try HDMI for first display without any other display connected?
Same result. I picked up a display port to HDMI adapter and it works fine. -

I'm using this BIOS on my R7950 TF3 OC Boost Edition... -
Hello,
Can anyone tell me if MSI is planning to release a Ati 7990 with an Twin Frozr III VGA card?
I would really like to buy this card when it comes out... But I'm not sure if it will... I've read reports that MSI will be launching a dual GPU Ati 79xx card... So that should be the 7990...
Could someone verify this information? Does anybody know if the Twin Frozr III version is coming?
Best regards,

Don't think so. Dual cards are always reference design with reference coolers.
So i don't see reason that this one gonna be exception.
For lower models than 7990, yes there will be versions with Twin Frozr III cooler.
Some are already out, like 7950 with TF3:
http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R7950-Twin-Frozr-3GD5-OC.html
and probably 7970 with TF3 will follows shortly. -

Would I just use the installer that is on this site to flash the bios, any help appreciated.
ThanksThankyou very much Svet,
The card and operating system(8.1) works perfect now.
What I did was, extract the files you gave me, and downloaded the ATIWinflash program,
then I put the .150 file in the same folder, then renamed the .150 file to a .rom file,
and used ATIWinflash to flash vbios(too lazy to go to the store), only took about 10 secs, then rebooted, and no more watermark :-),
Thanks again for your help.
I am glad I found this site or I would probably be just living with the watermark( Then again I don't think so, it was driving me crazy) -
Request: Latest UEFI / GOP vBIOS for MSI R7870 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC
Hello there!
I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and would like to upgrade to the latest UEFI / GOP vBIOS for my MSI R7870 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC please.
I ran GPU-Z and have posted my current vBIOS here:
stoguild.info/pitcairn.zip
Thank you in advance! No, that's not the S/N. If there's no other sticker that's bad. According to your provided vbios this gop one should be right:
>>TV274MH.100<<
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0). Then unpack the previously provided archive and put the included file (TV274MH.100) on that stick. Rename TV274MH.100 to TV274MH.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also on the USB stick. Now boot from the stick. Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 TV274MH.rom [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.
