RE: N95-8GB Slider

Hello Everyone,
A couple of weeks ago I bought a Nokia N95-8GB mobile phone, however I have come to notice a 'problem,' as such, with the slider.
When I slide the mobile phone to use the keypad, it seems that there is a slight inbalance, when I use the keys such as accept a call and reject a call.
The left-hand side, where the green call button is, feels really sturdy, however when you press any of the buttons on the right-hand side, such as the red call button, the mobile phone bounces up and down a bit and it feels a little insecure, compared to the other side of the mobile phone.
I know that there was this problem with the first version of the first N95, however does the N95 8GB version also have this problem, but to a smaller extent? Or is it simply the way in which Nokia creates the sliders?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
Stefan

magikguy: It's a question of relativity. Since these are not high precision engineered products (at least not the mechanical slider parts), so it is normal to have some "play" in them. Your description does make the problem sound serious that some of us would consider it a defect. But perhaps you had too high expectations of the perfectness of the sliding mechanism.
Have you ever used other slider phones? Perhaps that would give you an idea of what is "norm".
If you are not sure and it bothers you enough, no harm to take it to Nokia Care or from where you purchased the handset to enquire.

How can I set the slider to end a phone call when I shut it down ??? (I had this set up on a Nokia 8260)
I've read the how to 100 times !?
Where is this function hidden ? 8(
    Thanks in advance...

There's no built in way of doing this.
There is some third party software that does it though - I've been using it for a while now, as has my mate with his N85 8Gb:

  • Can we get SOME of FP2 features?? (N82, N95-8GB)

Hi, I own a N82 bought it about a month ago, and so far it is stable (touch wood)...
and as the FP2 devices poped out now, they are holding a lot stable features and system than the previous one for sure!! the idea of if i want the FP2 features is to BUY a new phone sucks!! my N82 is amazing, it got all what i want, i hate slide phones so i won't trade it to N96 and i won't agree with less features and trade it for the N78 (these two phones got the S60 FP2) and as i read some features need an upgrade for hardware (RDS for exampl), am not asking to install the full FP2 on my device but at least i hope that on the next firmware update there WILL be some new features that doesn't need any hardware stuff such as, Animation effect for menu and rotation, faster gallery and integrate the new features of it, the full screen caller picture (some said it will be in the FP2) and some of these stuff...
we all know that the N82 and the N95-8GB got good RAM so i guess this will work well...
COME ON guys, who agrees with me post sth on and say what u want to see!! we all still missing a lot of updates on our N82 (FLASH for example) but hope for the best...
    Do u agree with me???
Used a lot of S60 devices, now am with the King N82

oh of course, am so with you, but i hope that we can get some improvements too i mean, like the animation rotation, and SOME of the good features, am not saying to give us the whole pack!!
and yes, they just issues One update so far, hope the next one will be out soon carrying a lot of good stuff
Thanks my friend for passing by

  • Help! N95 8GB Horizontal Lines on LCD Screen getti...

I was getting a few horizontal lines across my screen of my N95 8GB. Switching the slider from portrait to landscape doesn't change the direction of the lines.
The lines have been getting progressively thicker to the point where now it's hard to read anything on the phone.
Do I have a dying screen?
I've take the slider apart, detached and reattached the screen and ribbon cable connector, and it doesn't make any difference.
Should I buy a replacement screen or is there something else that could be wrong? The rest of the phone functions perfectly fine.

    Hi calciumicon,
It would probably be best to have your device checked by a Nokia Care point. From what you describe it might be the screen needs to be replace. The N95 is a model which has been out of production for a while though so check to verify it can still be repaired.

  • Nokia N95 8Gb Keypad Fault

    Hi All,
I have a Nokia N95 8Gb which has developed a strange keyboard fault..
The number and top plate buttons only work when the slider is virtually closed, with just the *,0 and # keys exposed. If you slide it all the way open, none of the keys work. If you slide it all the way shut, none of the keys work.
I have tried removing the battery for a more than 30 minutes with no success.
I have also carefully taken the phone to pieces and re-seated the ribbon cable plug and it all looks fine. There are no obvious splits or breaks in the ribbon although the phone is quite old and has seen some use! The screen works fine at all times.
I cannot do a hard reset on the phone either by typing the number or power on key sequence as the buttons won't work with the slider open far enough to get to the keys. I have tried operating the phone with the front removed but this was not successful as the slider has to be in the exact position described above otherwise the keys won't work at all. I have however reinstalled the firware (version 35.0.001) and this will have done a reset on completion and this hasn't made any difference.
I have a number of questions:
    1. Has anyone seen this problem on the N95 8Gb please?
    2. Any idea if it is likely to be a brake in the ribbon cable? (I would have expected to see a problem with the screen if this was the case though.
    3. Does anyone know if a fault with the ribbon cable would cause the main number keys to stop working too?
    Thanks!

@Stolly: Reason for this is that this boards are the official Nokia discussion sites provided by Nokia. Taking any phone apart voids the warranty. Warranty voiding topics are no-go here even though your phone is 4 years old.
People come here to seek help from Nokia users and there is a great chance that users believe it's okey and recommended to take their phones apart to fix the issues themselvs after reading posts. - In many cases people will make things worse and void their warranty, so when they eventually need to seek help at a Nokia care point, they will find themselv to be rejectet because their warranty is voided.
    Nokia won't support that.

  • Nokia N95 8gb problems - freezing, fuzzy screen et...

Ok so been using the Nokia N95 8gb phone for about a week now and noticed that there is a tendency for the phone to freeze for up to 10 seconds like when opening other things such as Inbox etc. The problems mainly occur when the phone is slid shut, then when resliding the phone open the phone freezes or sometimes screen stays black until battery is taken out!
When the phone is slid shut sometimes the screen goes fuzzy in places aswell like a TV with no reception. The text and theme on the phone sometimes goes a dodgy colour aswell like a negative photo and sometimes even goes back to front and the wrong way round?? Anyone else had similar problems or knows what this is??

Its unlikely to have the same issue after doing a software upgrade, it could be some application on your memory card or the simcard .
You may try the steps below
    - A soft reset by keying in *#7780# when on standby - This will not delete any data but will restore all the settings back to default.
If that does not help then you may wanna try doing a hard reset by keying in *#7370# when on standby - This will reformat the phone. DO NOT FORGET TO DO A BACK UP AS THIS WILL ERASE YOUR ENTIRE PHONE MEMORY.
The security code by default is 12345
Also would be best to reformat your memory card and sim cards well as there might be some applications in there which is causing your phone to lag.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped...

  • GPS on N95 8GB on Pay As You Go?

    Hey guys,
I have an N95 8GB Black which was bought off someone who got it as an upgrade on a Vodaphone contract, but I'm using it on Orange pay as you go.. I was wondering what is up with the GPS because wherever I am it just won't find my location? It just shows the yellow flashing lights as if it is trying to find it, but I have left for hours and no luck...
It's not like there are no satellites as well, I've checked and at times it will show 3 or 4 or even 5!
Also can someone outline the costs involved with GPS (if any) as I'm not really sure how it all works.
    Thanks!

    Hi shyamt
As the internal GPS receiver is fairly feeble partly due to the siting of antenna, it depends upon the Assisted GPS feature to speed up establishment of position. This feature requires an active connection which can be altered in Nokia Maps > Options > Settings > Network - connection = As needed rather than Never. The amount of data downloaded for a position fix is about 5kb.
You don't say whether you are indoors or whether you have tried outside away from tall buildings and trees. You should hold phone at 45 degrees with slider open. I do have concerns that GPS receiver is not working if you never get Three green LEDs
If you go to Menu > Tools > GPS data > Position > Options > Positioning settings there are 4 options available, of which 3 should be ticked - Internal GPS, Network and Assisted GPS.

  • Screen won't work, sometimes - N95 8GB

    Hi,
Had a few problems as of lately with my N95 8GB, not really impressed with it to be honest.
Amongst other things, the worst problem would have to be the slider mechanism.
    - I'm not sure how to explain it properly as it's complicated, so please bare with me -
Every time I move the slider from Landscape(music player) to Portrait(key-pad and all) the screen goes black until the bottom of the slider reaches above the 7, 8, 9 keys. Essentially, it doesn't work from starting to move it to the Portrait mode from the Neutral position, to just before revealing the whole 7, 8, 9 keys.
Music and the like play in the background through all this happening, as the phone just goes into the "locked mode" and the screen turns off, so the phone is still on.
Ofcourse there are exceptions, like when I move the slider up and down fast, and seem to trick the phone, but I'm guessing that's mostly irrelevant.
tl;dr The screen doesn't work for the middle third of the entire slider movement.
Not too mention the secondary camera not working - period, or my calls only working on loud-speaker.
Yep, this is the least of my worries.
Anyway, thanks for any help in advance, hope you can help.
And one final note, I'm stuck on firmware v 11.x something, and I run my computer on Vista. Since NSU doesn't support Vista, is their anyway to update it to v 20.x without going to a Care Center or whatever they are called?

    Hi All,
Probably the Secondary camera of my N95 8 GB purchased just a week ago is not working
I discovered it when i used the secondary camera yesterday for the first time
When i use the sec. camera, only a bright yellow screen appears. The pictures taken are just a combination of red & yellow dots. Can anyone help ??

  • N95 8GB copying phone book via blue tooth

I have just aquired a secondhand N95 8GB and I am having trouble transfering my phone book to my cars hands free via blue tooth.  Can anybody help me.  Also with regard to the camera is there anyother button apart from the one on the side that can be used to capture the picture. I already use the scroll buttons for volume and zoom.
Is there a problem with the slide as mine seems very loose, can adjustments be made to the slide? Cheers
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi aggie2347
    1) More details of vehicle/kit to which you are trying to transfer phonebook needed.
    2) Third party application such as VirtualKey needed to re-assign keys
    3) Loose slide was a feature of early N95 to varying degrees, there have been self help fixes posted but it is against this forum's rules to publish disassembly instructions unfortunately.

  • N95 8GB navigation

    hi,
i have recently taken an N95 8GB. im not able to use the navigation option. can someone tell me how do i use it, do i need to download some feature?
    need some help

There is an application called maps in the applications folder. Run this application with the phone slide open and outdoors or at least near a window. The phone will take up to 10 minutes or so to get a satellite fix on your position. This position will be plotted on a map. If you only see your position on a blank screen, that means you probabnly do not have the map for your location, in which case your will have to use Map Loader to install maps on your phone.Map Loader can be downloaded from the link below and is to be installed on your pc.

  • After update N95 8gb i got big problems.

I make a backup of all but not the 8gb-memory, and restured all after upate, and everyting seems to work fine.
First problem; i see now i have no 3g 3 (no connection) competely dead, i can not use the phone to communicate.
Strange everything work fine after update yesterday and this morning, something happen when it was in the locker at work.
And now i can't use Maploader, it say i have no memorycard, i understand that problem, i delete the whole Cities-folder this morning, because i dont need Nokia GPS-program Wayfinder anymoore, i choose Nav4all instead, i try the maploader only to for testing, i don't want to download any maps.
I test maploader now only bacause my phone is completely dead in communication, try to find out why.
I check in Nokia Nseries PC Suit everything on PC & mobil are the latest update.
I have another mobile SE M600i with 3g 3-cashcard, i by that cashcard only to enable the phone to start, not for communication, that mobile have full 3g (and probably work fine).
Was it the thing that i delete the Cities-map, no it can't be, because i use the N95 8gb and it work fine after that.
after work i even have a missed call on that mobile, but i can't call back, it's dead in communication now.
    Strange things happens now.

Is your phone in another language? You should normally see 2 or 3 options.
    1. Dual Mode
    2. UMTS
    3. GSM
Maybe you could try reseting the phone if nothing else works.
Always remember to backup your phone before performing resets as your data may be lost.
    Try these
*#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default
    *#7370# - Reformat your phone
