Re-name worksheet tabs from cell contents?

Is is possible to re-name worksheet tabs automatically from cell contents in another sheet within the same workbook?
I have a workbook with 30 sheets all feeding data into sheet 31 - the Master Worksheet where all the data is collated etc.
There are occasions when I'll need to rename the individual sheets, but is there a way to change this in my 'master worksheet' without having to go back and individually re-name all the other sheets?

At this time there is no way to do what you want. If you can formulate a clear feature request you can post your idea to Apple using the menu item "Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback".
There is a way, however, to use a function called indirect() that can take input from a table to construct a cell reference. Not know your specific setup it is hard to provide a specific suggestion.

I'm trying to find out how I can grab a part of a cell content. Example: The cell has the content "1.22.333".
Now, I need to just grab the last part of that (and sometimes also the middle part). I tried to use the FIND and RIGHT function but the problem is that they need the amount of digits which can be different (1.2.3 or 1.22.333).
How can I grab/calculate just the "1" or "22" or "333" from that?

Here is a workaround, but it involves a word processor such as Pages or Word.
Copy your cells and paste into a blank word processor document.
In Pages, go to:
Menu > Edit > Find > Find...
Click on the Advanced button.
Type a full stop ('period' in AmericanSpeak) in the Find box.
In the Replace box, use the 'Insert' Pop-up menu to insert a Tab.
Replace All.
Copy and paste into blank cells in Numbers:

Is it possible to tab from cell to cell in New Numbers ver 3.0.1?

Have a brand new iMac with the new version of Nombers 3.0.1 and cannot fins a way to single stroke the tab key to move across the sheet from cell to cell, it only seems to work in conjunction with clicking the mouse. ( when I used Windows/Excel I could use the tab key to move across or down the sheet) and I beleive it worked the same on Numbers ver 2.3, can anyone assist please?

Modifying the cell content based on input parameter from variable screen.

I am trying to modify a cell content in the BEX Web Application Report based on the input parameter from the variable screen.
I am already aware of how to change the cell content by creating a new ABAP class and inheriting CL_RSR_WWW_MODIFY_TABLE.
I do not know how to get the input parameter variable from the variable screen in my custom class ZCL_RSR_WWW_MODIFY_TABLE. I am not very familiar with ABAP and would appreciate your help.

SAP GUI Java 7.10 rev 5: Copy cells content from ALV does not work (OSX)

Hi all,
I'm trying rev 5 for OSX. ALV aesthetics is really great but: copy cells content is not possible anymore.
Nothing happens with command+C.
I cannot copy anymore just a part of the cell content.
Trying all possible key combinations, something is copied with Ctrl+C. When I paste it, the pasted content is something like this:

Headers are not shown in normal view.
Menu > File > Print to open Print View.
Hover the cursor over the Header to see the outline. Click and delete.

Filter data in multiple tabs from same XMLDataSet

Hi All:
What I need to do is display the content from one XML file in
several different modes. I would prefer to use only one data call
if possible because all information exists in the one file;
however, I have not yet found a way to successfully filter the data
on load.
The data needs to display in three modes: alphabetically, by
phase, and by owner. The Spry tab widget is used to create the
'modes'. Within each mode, I need to break it down further. The
alphabetical listing exists as an additional tabbed subset -- one
tab for each letter. The phases and owner tabs also have sub tab
arrangements.
Within each secondary tab, the data needs to display based
the first letter in its name field. Therefore on tabbed panel 'A',
I need to have a table with those documents whose name begins with
an 'a'; tabbed panel 'B' with a table with all the docs beginning
with b, etc. The alpha listing has 26 sub tabs. The owner and phase
listings 8 each. Each panel will contain a table. The information
simple repeats in different arrangements.
While using the alpha listing as an example, I can filter the
data theoretically on tabs B - Z via an on click method, I also
need to filter the 'A' to show ONLY 'A' on load. I have not found a
way to do both of these tricks. Additionally when you click back an
forth between tabs, the data disappears.
While a database would be easier, I cannot use one. The data
is generated from an Excel spreadsheet into the xml file from which
the data is called by Spry.
I am flummoxed. I have included the relevant code snippets
below, including the tabs and the first panel which includes the
table code which repeats in each tabbed panel.

A table control is a 2D array of strings. Thus, you have to work within the rules of how to add elements to a 2D array. The primary rule is that it must always be rectangular. The default paste action on a table control will try to insert rows/columns depending on the contents of the clipboard. Thus, if your initial table 2 contained no data, and you tried to paste two cells, they would end up at the top-left corner, not in rows 4 and 5. Even if there were data already present (or just blank cells, which would be empty strings), the paste would not overwrite the contents - it would insert rows/columns.
This means you need to override the way the paste works. The easiest way to do this is with an event structure, and you handle the target table control's "Shortcut Menu Selection (App)" event. Here you can use the Point to Row Column method to get the row/column where the cursor was located. Then, you can determine whether to use Replace Array Subset or Insert Into Array to replace the cell contents, or add new ones if the user is pasting beyond the 2D array contents.

Some notes:
You have to reference the excel query from another step in the query or you will get the following error:
Formula.Firewall: Query <>something<> references other queries or steps and so may not directly access a data source. Please rebuild this data combination.
I only did the parameter for one value.

Error facing after installing a template from BI Content.

Hi,
I installed a web template '0TPL1_SR_GL_DASHBOARD' from BI Content. In Grouping tab I selected 'only necessary objects' and clicked on Web Template becoz I already have queries activated in BI.
But While checking that in WAD I could see the template name but Web Items are not dispalying.and an error message
'Template Include Item TOP_INCLUDE unresolved or empty. Close and reopen template.' is dispalying.
Need your help in this regard. Please let me know if I missed anything while activating.

A default template is designed to be executable with any query or query view.
Consequently, the data provider definition in these templates contains an empty data provider tag, which is then filled via the URL that provides a query or query view id.
So, it is natural that a data provider of these templates can neither be found nor instantiated.The behaviour is perfectly fine as it is.
Please apply the latest SPS and test the issue again.

Adding caller with name and number from call list to the contact list only inserts the number and not the name

I recently bought a BlackBerry Z10 and moved my cell service to Rogers to take advantage of the name display service offered by Rogers (Fido also offers this service).
Due to the number of calls that I receive from first time clients, I wanted the name display service to help me know who was calling. Evidently it is impossible to add clients to my contact list before they call me so I'm constantly seeing numbers that have no name to help me decide if I want to answer the call.
When I try to add a caller from my call list to my contact list, only the number gets inserted in the new contact. The name needs to be entered manually.
I understand and realize that not all call display formats are the same and that it's virtually impossible to parse the first and last names from the name portion of the caller id.
However, I would like to see BlackBerry add the functionality to insert the name portion of the call entry from the caller list to a "Nickname" entry in the contact list just like it adds the number to a "Home", "Mobile", or "Work" entry in the contact list.
If a user doesn't have a name display service, there would be no change to how their contacts are added because there is no name variable to copy over.
Can someone from BlackBerry please let me know if this feature can be added to BB10 and when it can be added? For me it's an obvious feature that should just work.
I am really enjoying my Z10 but I'm feeling let down that something so logical and helpful is not supported out of the box.

It appears that you are not aware of the fact that both Rogers and Fido offer name AND number display service (although the name display feature is an add-on service) and have been offering it for many years (since 2006). Here is a link to the name display service description of each provider...

My BlackBerry Z10 shows both the name and number when someone calls (and the caller is not in my contact list).
All I would like is for the Z10 (and Q10) to support the addition of the name and number from the caller list to my contact list without me having to type the name. As I mentioned in my original post, to avoid the OS having to parse the first name and last name from the name portion of the caller list entry the name could simply be added to the contact list as a "Nickname". If your provider only has number display, nothing would have to be copied from the name variable in the caller list to the contact list.
I find it difficult to believe that BlackBerry would not be aware of this name display service since it's been around since 2006 with both Rogers and Fido.
I hope I have clarified the reasons why I would like to have this feature added to BB10 and how it's surprising that this simple feature is not already a part of the BB10 OS.
Either way, I don't think this is a difficult feature for the BlackBerry team to add. They're just copying a 2nd variable from the caller list to the contact list.
I'm surprised that Rogers hasn't asked BlackBerry to add this feature to their phones. I think it would be a popular feature for those who receive a high number of calls from first time callers.
How can I get this feature request to BlackBerry for their consideration?

How do I protect cell contents in iwork 9?

Would like to password protect calculated cells (Numbers 9) from accidental erasure.
Tried the translucent shap locked over the calculated cells.
Problem with this is cell can still be tabbed into.
Protecting a cells contents a basic necessity.
Inability to do this is glaring oversight.
If I can't do this it looks like renewing Microsoft Office license for my medical office and dumping iWorks.
This too bad as I otherwise like Numbers flexibility.

Hi Trent,
In Numbers, you can not lock a range of cells within a table. However, you can move (or copy) those cells to another table and lock that table. The new table can be small (just the range of cells that you want to keep separate). You can hide that table on another Sheet if you wish.
Menu > Table > Lock
Make sure that the locked table has no formulas that link its values back to any other table. Formulas will still update the locked table.
Have a look at Menu > Paste Values to paste values (not formulas) into the new table before locking it.

Command links as column cell content...

I am trying to add command links as cell content. Clicking on one of the links will cause the outputText component located at the bottom to be updated.
However, I can't differentiate the different links. Since the commandLink is generated for each row of data, the id generated for each commandLink component is the same. That is, I am getting the same ID when I call

Found the answer from one of Frank's blog.

The data object is the type of object that you add to your List or CollectionModel.
Note that the commandLink is a child of the column which is a child of the table.

Parsing cell contents

In excel I used the command "text to columns" to parse the contents of a single cell. The result would be to have the cell contents stretched across a series of cells. The separation was user defined based on common delimiters eg. comma, tab, space, etc. Can this function be performed in Numbers?

I didn't met this kind of function when I looked at the 168 functions available in Numbers.
Some of them have a range of cells as operand but all of them apply to a single cell.
*Go to "Provide Numbers Feedback" in the "Numbers" menu*, describe what you wish.
