Re-naming application

i recently got cs3 and it was in my apps folder as 'adobe photoshop cs3'
i changed the name to 'photoshop cs3'
and now everytime i go to open it, i get the following message
'this application has been moved from the location which it was orignially installed. some settings may need to be repaired'
i can click 'cancel' whereby the app still opens or 'fix now' whereby it asks me for my admin password and then opens, but then this isnt fixed becuase when i quit the app and then go to open it again, the same message comes up
i would like to keep it renamed without getting this message if possible as this renaming moves its place in the apps folder and assists in my navigation of it
is there any way around this or do i need to rename it back and put the 'adobe' back in front of its name as it was originally?

I haven't tried this, but I ran across this hint in another context yesterday in these forums, so thought I would pass it along (In the original post, the question was regarding making the application name not show up in the dock on pass-over):
If you have Dev Tools
1. Go to /Users/Your Name/Library/Preferences/
2. Open com.apple.dock.plist (It should open in Property List Editor)
3. In the Editor disclose Root >> persistent-apps >> 0 >> Tile Data
4. You'll see the file-label for the first dock item. The value for this property is the name you see in the dock (in my case Firefox. Double click the value (in my case Firefox) to edit it to whatever you want, including leaving it blank.
5. Rinse and Repeat (steps 3 & 4) for other persistent-app >> (numbers).
6. Rinse and Repeat for persistant-others
7. Save/Quit.
8. Logout and back in (or just quit the dock via Utilities/Activity Monitor).
If you don't have Dev Tools
1. Read the Dev Tools instructions (it's help you understand this)
2. Drag com.apple.dock.plist to TextEdit or an equivalent app.
3. Find the file-labels key
4. The string right after the is file label to edit if you want it to be blank the lines should looks something like:
<key>file-label</key>
<string></string>
5. Rinse, lather, repeat.
6. There is no step six!
7. Save/Quit.
8. Logout and back in (or just quit the dock via Utilities/Activity Monitor).

How can I skip/eliminate the port number/host name when this URL is called by end-users?
What is the typical setup considering having multiple applications running on the same host?

Make an entry in DNS to support your desired hostname. Configure Apache to respond to that host header - probably by making a virtual host.
The next step is to listen on port 80. Typically, you would have a load balancer, webcache, or port redirect sitting in front of apache which actually listens on port 80.

Can't view or edit Application Insights webtests in the new Azure Portal

I'm in the process of setting up Application Insights for an Azure Cloud Services Web Role. Things have been looking good so far - I've enabled App Insights telemetry to the VS2013 solution, configured correctly and am getting usage/monitoring data
displayed in the NEW Azure Portal (portal.azure.com).
I set up my first "webtest" on Friday to monitor the site availability from three separate locations around the world and alert when down; however, logging in today shows my webtests graph as blank, i.e. contains no data.
Usually, when this is the case, there's a link provided to create new webtests, but since I've already added a webtest, this is no longer the case. So I can neither view or edit my existing webtest, nor create a new one. I have tried clearing
my browser private data and even use a different browser but the result is the same. I have also tried deleting and recreating the Application Insights instance with the same name but the result is the same (although the data from the deleted instance
remains...). My only recourse is to create a new, differently named Application Insights instance and set it all up again, losing the telemetry collected so far. This isn't such a big deal during the prototype stage, but when this goes into effect
on the production site, deleting and starting from scratch whenever there's a webtests problem isn't going to be an option.
How do I view/edit/clear existing webtests? Is it possible to do this through Azure PowerShell or the Azure SDK?

ADF application to be deployed in exploded mode in weblogic

How can we deploy the ADF Application (EAR) in exploded mode in weblogic server?
i.e I have ADF based application named Application.EAR. How can i deploy it in exploded mode?

As far as WebLogic is concerned, we take a standard Java EE deployment module, in either archived or exploded form and deploy it. You point the deployment utility (or the console, or the ant tasks or the Maven plugin) at the source of the deployment and WLS will deploy it.
There's nothing specific in what WLS requires for exploded deployment, so this is likely to be more a question specific to ADF as to how it is packaged and able to be deployed. I'd post your question to the ADF/JDeveloper forum to ask those folks specifically.

Why can't I see my applications in finder after upgrading to Yosemite?

I upgraded to Yosemite and now my applications do not appear in finder. How do I fix this?

Well, first of all, Safari is located on the dock. That's how I got Safari open. Although I am a new user of Yosemite I've been using mac computers for over 7 years. So, I'm not a complete moron. Yosemite seems to be a bit inconsistent on my computers. In Finder on my mac desktop computer there is, on the left side, the heading "Devices", in which my mac and my macbook pro are listed. Here the macbook is called "Remote Disc". On the macbook the heading "Devices" is not present. Instead there is the heading "Shared". Here I can see the mac listed but, not the macbook. So, the hard drive for the macbook is not listed in Finder, on the macbook. On the macbook I did attempt to locate the applications folder under my user name, which is listed under Favorites. There I find a folder named Applications but, it appears to be empty. When I click on it nothing appears. I have discovered a work-around though. I can locate my Applications folder by clicking on the hard drive icon on the right side of the desk top of the macbook. So, since I have been able to locate the Applications folder there I have decided not to worry about trying to locate it in Finder. If I were still worried about it, would that be enough information for you? Is that precise enough? I was trying to keep it brief. I didn't want to write a novel.

"The volume for 'Applications' cannot be found."

Install yesterday, plus reinstall. Still get this message when I click on Applications in the "Places" list. The applications exist in my username file and I created an Alias to put on top level, but cannot remove the empty Applications folder in this same place. It is no emergency but would like to throw away the empty Applications folder and also "locate" this as the volume for Applications. Thanks for any help.

There are different layers of the OS (system, local, user, etc) that have similar folder structures. The /Applications folder in the root directory (not on a volume) is at the local level and contains applications that all users have access to. The ~/Applications folder in a user's directory contain applications that only that user can access.
The main /Applications folder has never been an alias of a user folder, especially since only that user can access the original folder (ACLs provide more access, but the default behavior is that only that user can access items in their user folder). If a folder named "Applications" exists on another volume, then that volume will need to be mounted to get access (assuming permissions allow it).

Flash CS3 Form Application doesn't support FlashVars?

N8 Dab Radio Application

I have just got the Nokia DAB radio, and downloaded the DAB radio app from the Ovi Store. Everything works fine, apart from Nokia using about 75% of the screen for the word DAB and still using the menu structure to control functionality rather than populating the screen real estate with useful buttons to allow things to happen with one click rather than having to go through the normal multiple-press menu functions.
As this app is ONLY available for compatible phones - touch-screen devices - why, oh why did they not, for instance put a pile of buttons on the screen instead of having 75% of the space wasted - say 4 buttons to switch between your 4 most used radio stations (which could even optionally be populated over time like Bots does with Contacts, by learning which stations you play most often) - another button to bring up the full channel list, another button to pull up you favourites list, etc. etc.
In addition there is no 'sleep' function, a major omission for any radio application these days.
Does anyone know of an application that is compatible with the N8 that is capable of closing a named application after a set period of time. If I could close the DAB app after say an hour, automatically, then that would function as a sleep timer.
Apart from these gripes, I have to say that the kit works fine and reception is great - excellently engineered bit of kit, as always from Nokia - just a shame the associated software is badly designed, a pain to use, and lacking essential functionality if they had reallt thought about it. It is the sort of app I would have expected to be suitable for my N95 but falls way short of what should be coming out for the newer Symbian^3 devices. This is now a HIGHLY competitive marketplace and the quality of Nokia's own applications leaves a lot to be desired - even for a lifetime Nokia fan like me - it is now 2011 Nokia - get serious and develop an attitude of excellence with the software/apps - not one of stunning mediocrity - or fall by the wayside!

I really feel that I shouldn't HAVE to be teaching Nokia software developers to think - but, here we go ....
To add a radio station to the favourite station list you have to tap the station from the list which then highlights it, and then tap a button at the bottom to either Add or Remove it from your favourites list. (this single button conveniently changes - if the station is already a favourite you can, of course, only remove it, so it says Remove - and if it isn't a favourite then this button says, of course, Add). Now that is 2 taps. What is wrong with each tap on a station on the list changing the choice for that station - if it already is a favourite, then it is Removed, if it is not a favourite then it is Added. One tap. This is a touch screen - if I tap something then presumably I wanted to do something with it - as it is already a favourite, goodness gracious, I probably want to remove it - WHY MAKE ME PRESS A BUTTON SAYING REMOVE? Even if I make a mistake, and accidentally tap the wrong one, another tap and it is reversed.
It seems that in every application the philosophy of Nokia developers is "why use one tap where two, three or even more can be designed in" - have they never heard of KISS - keep it simple, stupid! No wonder Nokia UI and software is getting pilloried by the media generally - even new applications cannot be written intelligently.

Schema already exit eroor during FDM application creation

Hi,
I have done the installation and configurqation of FDM, when i am trying to create new application it is throwing an error SCEMA ALREADY EXIT.
Can some one clarify me, when every we go for new application it should have new scema?, because i used this scema to create new application, it went wrong due to invalid path, but it created some objects in the scema.

As SH said, you do need a separate schema (Oracle) or database (SQL server) for each application.
Usually when application creation fails the main thing that happens is FDM creates the application folder structure which you specified the location for in the first tab -- that named application structure e.g. MYFDMAPP must be removed from that file share before you can re-create the application if your DB credentials were incorrect.

Grouping collected versions of Designer 6 application systems in 10g

Hello,
I wasn't sure how to make the Subject clear, hopefully I'll explain my problem anyway.
I'm testing the migration of application systems from Designer 6 to Designer 10g. Some of the v6 application systems are versioned in the sense that we created new versions and froze the current one, i.e in the RON, select Application > New Version in v6. So, we may have several 'versions' of an application system called TEST, i.e.
TEST (1)
TEST (2)
TEST (3)
... and so on to TEST (X). X is live, the rest are frozen.
In the 10g RON, each version (all frozen and live) of TEST appears as a separate Container in its own right. Imagine we have this situation with other named application systems we've migrated - we're dealing with a big list in the RON.
What I want to do is group all my TEST containers under a 'TEST' top level container to make navigating a bit easier (so I can expand the top level only if I want to see all the versions underneath). I did this and used the option 'Copy Application System' to copy TEST (1) and TEST (2) into this TEST top level. Unfortunately the audit info for TEST (1) and TEST (2) under the new TEST container has been lost - they now have today's date. As they're copies, I still have TEST (1) and TEST (2) as explicit Containers in their own right, but I can't see how to group them as I'd like without losing this audit info.
So - is this possible? If so, what am I doing wrong?
Hope I've explained myself. I should add we're not switching versioning on in 10g yet, so we've the GLOBAL_SHARED_WORKAREA for the moment.

Thanks again. We need to bring older versions of the frozen application systems, e.g. TEST(4), as we have interdependencies with other application systems (in terms of shared objects). Otherwise we would have only brought the latest versions over to simplify things.
When you say at the end of your reponse to 'start the SCM's method of versioning', you're talking about switching the versioning on in 10g, right? We were going to migrate our v6 content and use the GLOBAL_SHARED_WORKAREA for the moment, and enabling versioning and all that entails would be the next phase.

Was the original download from the App Store?
Was it not completely downloaded because it was paused or simply failed to complete?
Was it hidden by you because it was incomplete, perhaps with the intention of going back to it.
Does it now feature in your purchase list (assuming you have unhidden it).

3 problems with application folder???

1. In my applications folder I have 2 folder aliases, one named applications and the other named applications 2. Do I need these? If not how can I get rid of them?
2. I opened the application folder and did drag the Firefox icon to the dock. Now there isn't an icon for Firefox in the application folder? Shouldn't there be one?
3. I recently downloaded Mozy. Again there isn't an icon in the application folder...Shouldn't there be one?
Any help with these would certainly be appreciated.....

Page 0 item vs. Application Item

Hello All,
Is there any advantage of using an application item over page 0 item .
My requirement is to store a value in a global item so that I can access it across all pages in the application . The value of this item is computed from an SQL query.
Now my concern with creating an application item is if at a later stage I have to change the query that computes the value, and then if i have to patch that change to production , I will have to send the entire application(2 hrs to import) since application items are shared component . But if I create an item in page 0 , I need to only patch the page .
1) Is there any way I can patch application items without having to send the whole application ?
2) Is it okay to use page 0 items (hidden) instead of application items ?

I've used page 0 items for "globals" with no issues. A few things I like about them:
1) They're visible in the standard tree view, without having to go to the shared components section. Much easier to remember that they're there. (This is the same reason I like using dynamic actions for page-level javascript, rather than tucking it into the page attributes.)
2) I can use the standard page item source processes. Application items are just harder to deal with--you either have to use an after-login process to set the value, or create your own application/page process to do so. Which is harder to track/remember.
3) Inherent "global" naming convention. When I'm creating a page item, APEX helps me remember to use the PX_* notation; there's nothing like that for application items. Which means I can (and probably will) tend to get sloppy--not to mention any other programmers I have to work with. Once you understand page items and page 0, however, it's trivial to remember that P0_* means global. (Incidentally, is there a recommended standard convention for naming application items? APP_* would be obvious, but there's risk of colliding with APEX there...A_*? G_*? GLOBAL_*?)
And as has been noted, they're available to javascript, though I haven't needed that particular feature (yet).

Lost my "applications" icon from my dock. how do i get it back?

how do i get my icon named "applications" back to my dock? i'm pretty sure that was the name of that icon...it was the one where when you opened it, it would show all the other icon apps like slingbox, angry birds, etc..thanks!

open finder. on the left hand side you will see the name "applications" under favorites. Drag and drop the name "applications" over to where the folder was before

Lost Mail Icon/Application

I tried to click on the mail icon on the dashboard and it wouldn't open it just had a question mark appear over the icon. I tried to move the icon and it evaporated and I can't find any way to re-install it on my mac...Help!

Click on the item in the Finder's sidebar named Applications and look for Mail; if it isn't there, reinstall Mac OS X 10.5.
