Re-Naming iPod

Please, please, please tell me that there is a way to re-name my iPod. I was just about to finish the successful installation of my brand new iPod nano when I accidentally hit the enter button before I could assign the device name. Now I'm stuck with the name "Burt's iPod" (the default name - they really should not provide a default name but just leave the field black!). I've looked in every menu in iTunes but cannot find a "Re-Name" or "Edit" option for the device.
I do not want to be stuck with "Burt's iPod" as my iPod's name. I'm afraid to even use it now in case my only recourse is to try and exchange it for another one to try and get a fresh start, if anyone thinks that will work?
Please help!
iPod Nano   Windows XP

I believe you can try to re-name your iPod nano in iTunes. Just hook up the iPod USB cord from your nano to your computer, and iTunes should come up if you have it. Then, on the left side of iTunes, there should be an iPod icon & next to it saying the name of your iPod (Burt's iPod). Right click on that, and click on Re-name.
It's been awhile since I first re-named my iPod, so I hope that helps you.
Edit: Nevermind, the user above me nailed it.

Those are outdated iPod software updaters which can be safely deleted.

  • Whilst restoring IPod 4gen, restored to new iPod instead of restoring to named iPod - now have lost all files, photos - how can I restore the named account?

Restoring iPod and restored to new iPod instead of named iPod - have now lost all photos etc, as iPod account deleted by the looks of it - how do I get it back??

Restore from backup. See the restore topic of:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iTunes backup you iTunes purchases have to be in the iTunes library. You can redownload them by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Netiehr the iTunes nor iClouod backup included non-iTunes purchases.

  • ITunes Recognition of named iPod

I have a 3G 40 GB iPod. I restored it the other day. The battery is not even close to where it once was in terms of holding a charge. I named it and started to reload/update the tunes. I only got part of the way through the process and the iPod shutdown due to the battery. Now when I try to complete the reload/update, iTunes doesn't recognize my custom name or the fact that I have about 3300 tunes of 5300 loaded already. The iPod does recognize the tunes and the custom name. It also lets me know that there's a software update available to version 2.2. The only problem with that is I have 2.3 loaded already. Any ideas?

Your computer does not seem to be charging your iPod when it is connected. Are you using an USB iPod cable to connect? If so, consider getting an USB2/Firewire iPod cable and connect your iPod to the computer in this way: How to connect the iPod Dock Connector to FireWire and USB 2.0 Cable

  • Naming IPOD mini

How do you change the owner name of an IPOD mini?

To rename an iPod, select it in the iTunes source list and then click on it's name. Type in a new name and press Enter.

  • Naming iPOD

How can I change the "name" of my iPOD. When I connect to iTunes or go to "Settings/About" on the iPOD it shows up as "Rick's iPOD" but I want to change it to something else. How do I do that?

Connect your iPod to the computer. Once it shows up in the source list of iTunes (the window on the left where you see "library", "playlists", "podcasts" etc), double click on it and this will highlight it and you can then type a name for it.

  • Xbox 360 not recognizing playlists on ipod - naming ipod "audiobooks"

All of a sudden XBox 360 is recognizing my ipod as "audiobooks" (when connected directy thru USB). It used to say "Tom's ipod". The bigger issue is that I can no longer access my playlists in my ipod when playing it through the 360. I am using the Elite and a ipod photo. I am not sure what happened. Anyone have any ideas on wht I can do?
Some others on an Xbox support thread theorize that it might be the last itunes update.

I have the same problem. It happened not too long when I updated iTunes to version 7.3 I think. I now have version 7.5 and still not working. I thought it was my older Ipod, but my new 2007 Ipod Classic 80 GB does the same thing. Xbox 360 doesn't recognize the playlists on my new Ipod. This *****. Please Apple fix this immediately, I don't want to buy a Zune to hear music on my home theatre system. I use the xbox 360 as a media hub for video and audio. Many xbox 360 owners have ipods and use it for the same purpose.

  • Windows doesn't recognize ipod nano, neither does itunes

Okay, just received my ipod nano 8gb in the mail, was very excited. Now I'm just tired of it.
I am running windows xp on an athlon 2400, connecting my ipod via usb 2.0. I have four usb ports, and have tried them all. I have itunes 7 etc installed.
Upon plugging in my ipod, the windows add new hardware dialog appears. I can ignore it, or attempt to run it automatically, and it fails either way. My ipod is installed as an "other device" named "ipod" as a yellow question mark. effectively, it isn't installed.
My ipod doesnt appear in My Computer as an external storage drive or anything else for that matter. I have no network drive to conflict with the naming standard, although I do have a CD and DVD drive labeled E and D, respectively. I attempted to rename those drives in case of conflict, and nothing happened.
When I run itunes, no ipod installer or updater appears. No device is detected. I cannot Sync my ipod. The diagnostic tool simply says that the ipod connection failed, and after visiting the accompanying Help link and attempting -every- solution, nothing has changed.
In fact, I have reviewed and attempted every single solution to every similar or somewhat-related problem that apple has posted at their site, as well as some from these discussion forums and others around the web. My point is, please hesitate before you link me to one of apple's support manuals--I've read them all, extensively.
I have a fair knowledge of computers, but this problem is simply beyond me. I have established that my ipod can connect to another computer (running windows ME) and appear at least in My Computer as a drive. I believe the problem is related to my USB ports, their drivers, or perhaps (god forbid) my OS.
ANY help or suggestions would be appreciated, even if they are redundant. I am at an utter loss.

    Hi there
You're pretty much describing a problem I had yesterday.
I've got the 2gb model and initially it was working fine. I run off a 4 port usb hub with other equipment running as well.
Everything was okay but I kept getting a balloon telling me that usb 2.0 would be faster, so I routed my extension cable directly to a usb 2.0 port on my computer and all of what you describe started.
The PC showed my nano as a removeable drive but could not be acesssed. If I managed to get it recognised in itunes (took forever) then it just said it was corrupted and was unable to restore.
After much cursing and trawling the internet for answers, I gave up and put the cable back to the hub.
    And.....everything worked again !!
I can only conclude that my hub (quite old) does not work on usb 2.0, or putting the extension cable (5m) straight into my PC causes a power drop / signal loss ??
Are you using an extension cable or a hub? something to try.
    Good luck anyway
    Regards

  • 2 Ipods on 1 Computer

Can anyone tell me how a mac will react if I plug 2 ipods in using the same doc (1 after the other). Will it allow me to specify in the ipod options in Itunes what play lists I want to sync, or will both Ipods contain the play lists selected.
I'm hoping that because both Ipods are named that iTunes will treat both seperatley and let me select what I want to put on each. The reason for my question is that I'm going to buy a 4gb Nano, but ITunes is currently setup for my 60gb Ipod, so I'm concerned that if I plug the Nano in, will it try and put 20gb of music on it, or will it recognise that its a seperate ipod. ????

I am also doing this. I have an iPod Photo 40GB named "iPod Photo" and a new iPod Nano 4GB named "iPod nano." My G5 sees them as different devices. I chose to manually update songs in the iPod nano due to the 4GB capacity. I only put my favorite playlists on it and not my entire iTunes library.
So, you should be just fine with 2 different names on the iPods and only as a consideration for capacity think about updating the songs manually on the Nano.

  • ITunes does not recognize my 2nd generation iPod Touch.

The computer sees it but iTunes doesn't.
o iTunes diagnostics says no device is connected.
    o I AM using the Apple-supplied cord.
o I've tried ALL the USB ports.
o I've stopped and restarted Apple support utlities then rebooted PC. (Multiple times)
o I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. (Shut down PC after uninstall. Deleted Apple directory from AppData. Shut down PC agan. Downloaded iTunessetup then reinstalled.)
o Another iTunes (same version) PC recognizes my Touch and wants to sync it.
What's changed since the last successful sync?
    o Updated Windows to 8.1.
    o Updated iTunes to 11.1.3.8.
o I have disabled some irritating Dell run-in-background utilities. (The PC is a Dell Inspiron 14R.)
Short of buying a new iPod Touch, what do I need to do to get my Touch synced?
    Thank you.

    GOT IT!!!!!
The following steps worked for me:
    1. Uninstall iTunes.
    2. Uninstall Apple Application Support
    3. Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support.
    4. Uninstall Apple Software Update
    5. Uninstall Bonjour.
==> In summary, uninstall EVERYTHING Apple. (I left Quicktime installed as a gamble and won.)
    6. Reboot PC.
    7. Open Windows File Explorer and go to the C: drive.
    8. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in Program Files.
    9. Delete the Bonjour folder from Program Files.
    10. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in Program Files (x86).
    11. Delete the Bonjour folder from Program Files (x86).
    12. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in ProgramData.
    13. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in Users\username\AppData\Local.
    14. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in Users\username\AppData\LocalLow.
    15. Delete any folders with a name that includes "Apple" in Users\username\AppData\Roaming.
==> In summary, wander around the C: drive and delete any folders that have "Apple" in their name wherever you can find them. (There should be no folders with 'iTunes" in their name except possibly in Music. That can be left. So can all the folders named "iPod Photo Cache" in Pictures.)
    16. Reboot PC.
    17. Now that any known association with Apple has been removed from the PC, re-install iTunes. (Note: It may be necessary to re-authorize the PC for any content downloaded onto the iPod.)

  • 4 gen Ipod shuffle is not recognized by windows

I charged my 4 gen i pod shuffle and configured an updated i tunes to transfer songs (mp3 files) directly from my desktop. Nevertheless i tunes had showed ipod as a driver in the windows explorer and has also showed a mp3 files list from my desktop, I transfered only two mp3 files to the device, because, suddenly, ipod icon stopped to appear in the windows explorer. After that first time (it has happened yesterday), the green light now starts to blink 4 times.. but after that it won't response. Now, it is not recognized by my computer and by i tunes as well. I can't transfer more mp3 files to my i pod. Please, help.

  • IPod shuffle 4th generation will not turn on?!?!

My iPod shuffle 4th generation flashes red for 3 seconds when connected to the USB charger but will not turn on, charge or connect to the computer.  This means i can not go through the basic trouble shooting reset steps.  I tried turning it off waiting 10 seconds and turning it on.  I made sure the buttons were no diabled.  I updated my iTunes and updated all software on my computer and restarted it.  I also made sure the USB port works by putting something else in- it works.  I am running out of options given on the apple website!!! WHAT DO I DO?

    Hello StefiPod,
It sounds like your iPod is not charging, and you have already restarted your computer as well as updated your iTunes application and the issue persists. You have also verified that the USB port works for other devices.
I recommend these troubleshooting steps from the article named:
iPod shuffle troubleshooting and service FAQ
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1412
Your iPod shuffle may need to be reset. See this article for steps to reset iPod shuffle. Resetting does not affect your music or data files.
If a red light is blinking or continuously on, your iPod battery may not be charged. You can find information on charging iPod shuffle here. To find out how to check the battery life, see the article "Checking the charge." To get the most out of your battery, be sure to check out our battery tips and tricks article.
If none of these steps worked, you may need to restore your iPod shuffle software. Please be aware that doing so will delete all your files on iPod shuffle.
If the issue persists, then your iPod may need service. Follow the section toward the bottom labeled:
    Get Service
If you've tried all the appropriate troubleshooting steps above and those found on the iPod shuffle Support page, and have determined that your iPod shuffle needs service, you can request service online.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I dropped my Ipod (4TH Generation Ipod Nano) I have got it start up again I have put it in disk mode and connected it to Itunes,
I have downloaded the new software through Itunes, that went well, it came up as normal.
