Re: No video with video chat.

I had my skype updated but to my surprise my video chat is gone. How to fix this? I thought this version is better but it's not working with me. I have iphone 5c. Pls help

Hi,
Welcome to the    Discussions
iChat can Video with a GoogleTalk Buddy if they are on iChat as well.
It can Text chat to anyone with a Google Talk ID whether they are using the Google mail Chat option or using Jabber able Chat application on a PC or a Mac.
Text chat to Anyone anywhere on a Jabber Client (Application) or the Google Web Site.
Video chat only to other iChat users (iChat 3 or 4)
You Cna not Video chat to a MAc Buddy if they are Text Chatting from the Web Site option as that uses a Different set of Video codecs
These seem to be different again from the GoogleTalk app for PCs
(there is no Mac GoogleTalk app just the ability to use the names in iChat and other Jabber able chat Applications)

I am using ichat av with panther and a 512k connection, when i video chat to my buddy who's using aim on a pc with a 2mb connection, the picture freezes after about 10 mins but We still have audio. I have to close the window and start a new chat to solve it. This is becoming really anoying! anyone got any ideas why this is happening??

    Hello Richard,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Sounds like you have the "PC Freeze". Several of us are so stricken with a few, but not all, of our PC friends. TTF (time-to-freeze) varies, but the symptoms are as you describe for all.
See msg # 22 in iChat MAC to PC Video Freeze after 6.5 min for the work-arounds identified to date.
There is lots more info on what has been tried in that entire thread.
If you find a fix, let us know.
    EZ Jim

  • Problem with video/audio chat

i installed a logictech pro 9000 webcam to my mini last night, and it was recognized by the computer and seemed to be working, (i was clearly visible on the monitor). however when a friend attempted to accept my invitations to video and audio chats, we both saw an error message that said he "dropped the connection" (or something like that). the same thing happened when i attempted to accept his invites. we tried a few times with no success and the same error message. text chatting was working fine, and we both use AIM.
i have the mini hardwired to a cable modem, and we do have a wireless router running for laptops.
    any ideas out there?

    Hi,
It might help if we knew what sort of Accounts/Screen Names were involved ?
    What have you checked ?
    Mac Firewall ?
    Router ?
Logging on to your Mac with another Mac User ?
Does the Mac User Account you normally use have Parental Controls turned On ?

I've got a friend who just upgraded to snow leopard. We're both using iMacs. My computer is working find, and I have audio and video with other people.
When we video chat, there is no audio. When I screen share with her computer, with her seeing my desktop or me seeing her desktop, the audio works.
No mute buttons are down, I've checked system preferences (sound) everything is right.
    Any ideas?

HAs she checked that System Preferences > Sound > Input is listing and has her Mic Selected ?
Is he r Volume high enough in the same place ?
In her Video Menu is the "Microphone " Enabled" ticked ?
In iChat Menu > Preferences > Video Section is the same Mic listed ?
Do the response bars move under the Preview when she talks ?
During a Chat in Your Connection Doctor (Video Menu) is she sending any Audio ?
IS she showing as having a log more Bit Rate than you ?

After years of owning all things Mac, I am finally trying to use iChat, and can't get it to work. I am using gmail, and I see my buddy (no camera icon next to her name), but all I can do is send a message--the video and audio chat icons are gray, as is inviting to a video chat under Buddies. My buddy has the same problem as I.  We are able to do video chat through gmail, but I had hoped to use iChat.  I am using OS 10.6.8, iChat v. 5.0.3.  What am I missing?

    HI,
iChat will Video chat to another iChat in a Jabber Buddy List (Google run a Jabber server for GoogleTalk)
However it will not Video to the Web Page login to iGoogle or the Web Mail Page login.  (where people can Google Chat as it were in a  Web Browser).
Nor does it video to the Google Talk Stand alone app for PCs or any other Jabber apps on any platform.
iChat uses a connection Process called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) which is also used by other VoIP devices.
Jabber/XMPP invited the Jingle Protocol for Jabber Applications.
Google have included this in their Standalone app and the Plug-in for Web Browsers on both PCs and Mac (you can get this as a Standalone Plug-in or as part of Chrome)
More on this here  This article has been changed several time in the recent months.  It now claims a greater involvement by Google in writing the Jingle Library (Although now Google's version does not work with the others)
This tends to mean that using the web Login to Google to Chat also cannot video chat to other Jabber apps that are using Jingle.
If your Buddy is using iChat then check the Video Menu has two items to Enable Camera/Video chat and Microphone/Audio chats are ticked.
In the View Menu the Show Status Items should be ticked (Selecting them toggles the tick and the function On or Off)
It could be Internet speed but at this stage I would doubt this at this stage.

  • No Video With Google Talk on Droid 3

Just got my wife the new Droid 3 that's running Android 2.3.4. This is the version of Android that is supposed to support video with Google Talk. Tried starting Talk and only thing I can do is messaging with Talk. No video option like on my Thrive tablet.
    What's the Deal Google?Verizon/Motorola?

I know how software works and how companies have a habit of delivering products before they are ready, i.e. "get the device approved for software that is loaded on a device".
Based on what I found on the Motorola frequently asked questions page, see below, It appears that Motorola tried but right now it's in Google's & Verizon's court. Because of Google's urge to keep their products a step ahead of their competitors, I'd be surprised if it was them holding up approval.
    Google Talk video chat
DROID 3 by Motorola will not support Google Talk videochat at the time of market launch.  We are excited about the potential of videochat to enrich the Motorola smartphone experience, and we are working actively with Google and Verizon Wireless to enable this feature as soon as possible.
While we do not endorse or guarantee these solutions, or provide support for them, some owners have reported success using a 3rd party Android Application like "Tango".  You can search the Android Market for 3rd party applications that are available that will enable you to video chat.

  • Can't Use Video with other Mac users who use AIM

I know that ichat is compatible for video chats with other pc users who use aim, but does it work with other mac users who use aim?
Everytime I try to chat with my friend, I get an error message when trying to start of a video chat.
BTW, I use a iMac G5 with an isight camera.

    Hi Staci,
    For a Bit of Clarity.
AOL have their Instant Message App. referred to as AIM.
Apple decided and did a deal with AOL that iChat could join their service Buddy Lists.
On these Discussions we tend to refer iChat as Logging into AIM, as they are the servers that the Buddy Lists are held on.
As iChat can also use Bonjour and Jabber, both of which have their own Buddy list window on your Mac. The Jabber side needs you to have a Jabber screen name - so again people differentiate between this and the AIM side.
I would guess you friend is trying to make it clear that she is using the AIM side of iChat as opposed to the Jabber side.
As has been said already, the Application side of things also tend to get referred to generically as "AIM" as well.
The Mac version has stopped and 4.7 and will only Text chat.
The PC side needs 5.9 to clearly Video or Audio chat with a Mac using iChat. (AIM 6.0 is not stable enough to A/V chat to iChat).
