Re: Noob: Captured video on CS5-now what?

I am using a friend's computer and I was able to capture video from my Sony cam.  I  I used scene detection and when the capture was completed I saved the project. CS5 saved the captured video into many smaller (avi) files.
My "workspace" selection is "editing". I wish to edit (create template titles, splice, add transitions, and chapters) to the captured video. However, I am unable find out how. Adobe help doesnt provide much info which suprises me.
I am just looking for some basic commands/instructions. Nothing fancy. Can anyone steer my in the right direction or provide some basic simple instructions that even an eight year old could follow?

You've skipped a step here.  First one should get an education in video production.  Once you have the fundamental education under your belt, then you put that education into practice.
The Help file is for those who already know the basics of video production and editing, and just need some guidance in using this specific program.  It's not intended to be a general education in video editing.

Sorry about that. I thought this was the forum.  I find site is terrribly difficult navigate through, the videos all but useless unless you're an adobe engineer.   Do you have a link for the Creative Suite 5 forum?  Thank you.

  • Cannot capture video frm PD170 - now says Audio Capture Only Selected??

So I now can't capture video?? It says before you attempt to do so that it's Audio Capture Only Selecteed / Video Preview Disabled.
And I have been thru everything to figure how to unselect this option - and cant find anything??
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks!!

    Thanks for your replies.
I have the Device Control and Capture presets set to PAL. Is there any other PAL settings I need to set at this stage?
The 25fps vs. 24fps was confusing me as well. I was told that was the camera that was used, and set to 24fps, and when I step through the tape frame by frame, it appears that it is 24fps. Does that make any sense? Perhaps this is another thing to complicate the whole situation. I've tried multiple variants of capture presets. PAL, NTSC, 24fps, 29, 25, all giving me the same "Preview disabled."
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

  • After the video chip "fix"---now what

I taped a few palying cards together to "fix" the iBook G4 video chip thing. Closed the case. After start up a CD that had been trapped was spit out.
Success I thought, until, the start up brought me to the " where the heck is my hard drive" blinking folder. I attached a firewire cable to my emac and retarted in the "firewire mode" but no hard drive was accessible from my emac, So, now I have a phantom hard drive on my iBook G4 and clearly it is unuseable. Could I have damaged something by putting those cards under the cover? AND if not, is it time to have someone smarter than me fix it correctly :-/.
    Thanks

    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
That worked for me when I fixed my video chip problem. I think I had to do it a few times though.

  • Converted videos...now what?

I have managed to convert one part of a dvd movie into mp4 using videora. While waiting for the other parts to be converted, I have managed to put the first part into ipod.
However, since there are so many parts of the movie, how do I ensure that the movie is played continuously in ipod as one movie?
How do I group all those parts into one single movie as I will be converting other movies too later on and I don't want to have to all the different parts to be mixed up?
    Can anyone advise?

What many people overlook when discussing conversion times is the users processor. Converting a video into a different format is extreemly processor intensive, and just about the most strenuous thing most average home users will do their system. The time it takes is directly proportionate to the processing power of the processor.
Therefore there is no answer to how long it takes as it depends on what processor you have. Also the level of compression chosen will have another significant impact on the time taken.
    Thanks

  • Anyone know what would cause a cs5 "utilities.cpp-760"  when trying to capture video

    Software: Premiere Pro CS5 v5.0.3
    OS: Win7 Pro 64bit
Trying to batch capture video from a Sony DSR-45 over firewire and it's worked before, but for some reason now it will cause the "Premiere pro debug event' message box with "..src\Utilities.cpp-760".
Any one have any ideas what would cause that or where I could look for a log file or something with a little more info.
    Thanks

Leopard.  Did a full restore from Time Machine.  Now I can't access my other internal and external drives.  I get the following error: The folder “Capture Video” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.  I have repaired permissions pn the main harddrive.  When I try too click on a disk I get the previously stated error.  I can't even open up information to see what permission/access there is.  It simply will not let me see the content.  It shows the content of my main hard drive when I have clicked the other harddrive's name.

    Solved:
sudo chflags 0 /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"
sudo chown 0:80 /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"
sudo chmod 775 /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"
sudo chmod -N /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"

  • What are the best sequence settings in FCP 5 for exporting screen capture video footage?

I capture video footage of websites in order to showcase in a demo reel. Using Snapz Pro, the compression type I have found to have the best quality is H264. When I take this footage into FCP (v5.1.4), I choose DV NTSC 48khz for the sequence setting. If I then select H264 for the sequence compression type, when I go to render I get a 'Codec error.'
The only way I am able to render properly is by choosing DV NTSC 48khz for the sequence setting and DV/DVCPRO-NTSC as my sequence compression type. The problem with this though is I get a perfect picture in the Viewer, but the picture quality in the Canvas (and the subsequent exported video) is slightly blurred.
I've been trying to find a solution to this problem off and on for years. I've finally decided now to get to the bottom of the issue. If you can solve this one you are my hero!
    Ted

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried using DVCPRO HD in the past, but the picture quality of the captured screen footage turns out blurry. The only codecs I've found that provide a perfectly clear image are H264, Animation and Uncompressed 8-bit. The problem with the latter two is that video files lasting only a few seconds measure in the 100s of MBs. Working with files that large would slow my editing and rendering down to a non-workable length.
I just don't understand why I can't edit H264 video if my sequence codec is set to H264. The 'Codec error' I get is baffling.

  • What are the settings for capturing video from Canon HV20

    Hi All,
I want to capture video from Canon HV20 with Premiere Elements 11. What kind of settings should I use to capture the video with full information?
    Here is what I did:
    1) According the manual, I went to Capture settings panel (Edit > Project Settings > Capture) and selected HDV as capture format, because my video is at high definition.
    2) In addition, I checked "Capture to Timeline" and "Split Scenes by cotent".
    Are these settings enough?
    Thanks.

Sounds reasonable, using Add Media/HDV Camcorder, but....
Have you reviewed the Adobe write up on Premiere Elements 11 DV and HDV capture firewire into it.
    http://help.adobe.com/fr_FR/premiereelements/using/WS5CDA0F91-60F1-4b79-ABF6-E9E75F498DB2. html#WS2AF26FB5-4C63-4c46-9DB3-7249558F6528
The mention of Get Media instead of Add Media makes me wonder if the video's instructor was demo'ing from Premiere Elements 10, but...
Major factors have always included having Premiere Elements project preset set correctly to correspond to your camera settings...For HDV data capture firewire...
NTSC HDV HDV 1080p30 or PAL HDV HDV 1080p25 depending on if you are targeting a NTSC or PAL area where frame rates are typically a consideration.
I had not done any DV or HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements. But, Premiere Elements 11's take over of the project preset setting would encourage me to encourage you to verify your project settings before the capture.
There are probably many more, but the following is online discussion of one Canon HV20 issue
    http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/316970-video-capture-problems-HV20-camcorder-is-control led-but-no-video-capture
If you experience difficulty with the HDV capture fireware into Premiere Elements 11, you might consider what some others have done in this regard, that is, use HDVSplit for the capture firewire and then import the split (.m2t) clips "Add Media" into Premiere Elements 11 with the appropriate HDV HDV 1080p (1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9) project preset.
Please update us on your progress when you get a chance.
    Thanks.

The D610 didn't get out-of-the-box RAW support until Photoshop CC.
You can either upgrade to CC or use the DNG Converter to convert and open your DNGs in CS5.

  • What is needed to capture video in Premiere Pro

To capture video in premiere, do you need to have either a camcorder with Firewire (I believe this is what the user guide states) or can you use a camcorder with a USB port...and in either case do you need to have a video capture card?
At this point, I think that if I have a camcorder that is non IEEE firewire, that uses a USB port, then I need to have a video capture card...is this correct?
And if it is, can anyone recommend a video capture card that works with a PC (not a MAC).
    Thanks
    JK

Premiere Pro is designed for professional editors, and can be daunting to the untrained.  Given that you ask these questions, it seems pretty obvious you're not yet trained.  In which case I strongly recommend becoming a professionally trained editor before using Premiere Pro.
For the amateur crowd, there are consumer editors out there which will be easier to work with.

Why can't you do this? There's plenty of third-party software that can do the job. Download a few from
MacUpdate or CNET Downloads and try them out before choosing one to purchase.
