Re-numbering Images In My Catalogue

Q: Is there any (easy) way to re-number in sequential order my 6000 images *without* changing the names of the individual files?
My setup:
LR v5.3
6000 images in a master Nikon file
About 40 sub-folders inside of that Master Nikon Folder
Just one catalog for all that's described above.
My preferred view in the Library is Capture Order.
Thanks in advance for any answers..........I wish some of this stuff was a bit more intuitive...........or maybe it's just me.

Tony-
I was afraid of that..........the inability to separate file names from file numbers would be nice, but I suppose everyone has their own wish list.
Certainly not a deal breaker for me.
Thanks for the answer.

  • Moving images within a catalogue

I've noticed a phenomenon where, when re-ordering a group of images within a catalogue, LR2 (and 2.2) moves the last photo in the group to the front of the group. It's very time consuming to fix.
Is anyone else having the same problem?
    Cheers
    Kevin

    That's the problem...
I actually *want* to put them in custom order (it happens sometimes that the cameras which shoot a wedding are out of time sync). It's when I do this that the problem occurs. Never happened pre Version 2.
    Thanks for the suggestion, tho!

  • Using markers to automatically add numbered images to the timeline...

I've imported a .mp3 containing markers into After Effects.  I then imported in a bunch of sequentially numbered images.  My question is, how do I get those images to automatically line up with the markers (i.e. Image1.png to Marker1, Image2.png to Marker2, etc.) so I don't have to line them up manually?  My goal is to create a simple slideshow with audio.  The number of images could get into the hundreds, so automation would be preferred.  Is there a script that does this?  Please help.
    Thanks,
    Jose

I'm not aware of an existing script that does exactly that, but by hacking  this script and borrowing some code from a few others this would be perfectly doable.

  • New Catalogue from selected images in other Catalogues

    Hi Guys,
I have several Catalogues in Lightroom 2.5. I would like to select several images from each Catalogue and put them into a new Catalogue.
The reason – In each Catalogue I have flagged the images that I want to print. I want to create a new Catalogue with only the flagged images from the other Catalogues in order to do a contact print or multi images on one sheet of paper.
I know that I could create one Master Catalogue, select the flagged images and then print but I would like to just have a Print Catalogue that I could add images to, from other Catalogues.
Its there a way to do this ?
    Thanks for your help.
    John

In each catalogue, select the images and select File > Export as Catalogue. When you're finished, create a new catalogue, and then use File > Import as Catalog for each of the exported ones.
When you're finished doing all this, do put some time aside to think what else you could have done with all the time you've just used up. With a single master catalogue, you would already have been admiring your prints and having a coffee, with your feet up on the desk too.

  • Using numbered images in particles

I am very new to Motion (just picked up my copy today) but understand the basics. I remember way back when Motion was first released at NAB they had some demos going on and seeing some footage of taking multiple images that have been numbered in sequence and used in a particle system to show up and fly across the screen one at a time. Does anyone know how that is done or if they know where this video is as it is no longer on apple's site. Many thanks in advance!

I've not seen that demo, but it's pretty simple to take an image sequence and make it into an emitter... Just take an clip, select it, and select Make Particles...

  • How to import numbered images?

FCP 6/7 has a command to import a numbered series of images.
Does FCP X have a similar command?
If not, how can I do this?

I found that by dialing photo duration to .01 second, when I imported and then single clicked each, a one frame selection was made. Then exported and reimported and slowed by 50% with optical flow.
Sure not as nice as the old FC7, but it worked. I'm trying to do everything in FCP X. It works VERY well editing 3840x2160p60 from the new JVC camcorder.

  • Page Numbering: Image bleeds over page number

I tried to send the image to the back, but once you have page numbers on a Master Page is there a way to have them all view over images that bleed off the bottom?
    Thank you

    > however this program should have had an overlay feature for numbering.
Criticizing PM for any shortcoming is like criticizing a typewriter for
    not being a word processor.
PM is a dead application that has seen ZERO development for the better
part of ten years and will not see one minute of further development.
If you want a full featured pagelayout application it's time to move to
InDesign and take advantage of Adobe's upgrade price from Pagemaker.

  • Numbering images based on their position in a document

    Hello,
Is it possible to give images an automatic number based on their position in a document.
    For example: I have 3 images A, B and C. I place them in order A = 1, B = 2 and C = 3.
Then I change my mind and I move image B to the front.
I want the numbers to change so that B=1, A=2 and C=3, but this doesn't happen.
I have the same problem if I insert an image D between A and B. I want the numbers to change to A=1, D=2,B=3 and C=4, but the number of the new image just becomes 4.
I can't find a solution for this problem. Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks,
    BB

A paragraph style with the Numbering option turned on and this applied to the Figure text would be as close as you can get to a solution. It is not quite as thorough as FrameMaker in this regard, but it isn't bad for general document construction. Once you get into the hundreds and thousands of pages of illustrated figures, this becomes a lot of time and human management.

  • How to recover IWork Numbers image

I have accidentally deleted the original start page/icon for the Numbers application - the blue image that opens up first thing on clicking the Numbers application, and shoul be tapped to go to templates. I have restored the original iPad settings, but no success in getting the cover image for IWork Numbers. Any solution? Many thanks in advance.

I don't know if this is where that will be in the Numbers app, but in the Pages app you can go to Setting>Pages>getting Started>Restore. It may work the same way for Numbers.

  • Copying Folders, but not images into another Catalogue

    Hi,
I currently have two external hard drives where I have all my bird photos classified into folders by the name of the bird. There are more or less a hundred. I have one external hard drive where I import all the photos to and the other external where I backup the first external hard drive every night. They are getting full and I will soon have to purchase two more, but I was wondering how I could export all the folder hierarchy into the new external hard drive. It surely will be a chore to have to create each one again.
    Thank you!
    Gloria

I tend to agree that it doesn't make sense to make a whole new parallel set of folders merely for disk space reasons. Equally, it makes no sense to have a new Catalog per drive. All that would be tedious to do and then doubly tedious to maintain, for example if a new folder is required in both places. Lightroom's Catalog can work just as easily with images stored on one drive, as on another, or across both.
So moving perhaps half of the present set of folders, assuming there is some sensible way to divide them (even if that is just A-M, and N-Z) onto the new drive, would allow you to continue using them there, with space to add more images into the same folders (alongside the present ones) and managed by the same Catalog.
It would also allow you to continue using the ones that remain on their current drive, with space now to add more images there, again managed by the same Catalog.
If in future some of these need to move around again to other drives (say, you buy a setup large enough to store it all) then that is no problem.
Or if the new drive is big enough, all the images and their folders could move there... which would then need a minimal and trivial change so far as your current Catalog is concerned (a couple of clicks to re-browse the parent location of the entire "tree" full of birds). Everything carries on functionally either side of this kind of a behind-the-scenes change.
Analogy: the actual nature and current location of the money in my bank account is of no real interest to me, so long as money's available when I require it, and so long as I have confidence that good practice is happening which will avoid the bank going out of business or refusing to let me have my money in the future. The bank is in fact moving this money around constantly; lending it, investing it and so on. And by virtue of my relationship with the bank, all kinds of services become possible, which would not be if I just stacked banknotes under the mattress. The account balance on the ATM screen - or to return to LR, the fact that the image still works - is what matters to me the customer.

  • How do you permanently delete a file image in the catalogue

how do you permanently delete a file image in the ?

Highlight the image, press the delete key, in the dialog that appears click the button that says, "Delete from disk."
If you want to delete multiple images you can go through your images and when one is highlighted that you want to delete press the X key. That will mark the image for deletion. After you have gone through the images on Windows you can press Ctrl/backspace to display the same dialogue I described above. And you can choose to remove the marked images from the catalog or to delete them from your disk.

  • 5 stars not showing up on other computers when importing images that have been worked on. Catalogues settings include write metadata to xmp keywords do show up though

our working group usually one team member imports and completes job in lightroom 5 . All settings on team computers include write metadata to xmp.  Key words show up if another team member adds the images to their catalogue but the 5 stars don't show up.
We use the 5 stars to show images that were worked on and complete.
Would love to sort this issue out as we rely on being able to see the star rating not just keywords.

[Sorry for the delay in getting back.] Of the three files you included in the Dropbox .zip, 2 had no rating, and 1 had a 5-star rating (*research*.dng).  So indeed, the rating didn't get written to those two files and wouldn't show up when they were imported into another catalog.
    A couple of suggestions:
    1. Triple-check that the option Automatically Write Changes Into XMP is set in Catalog Settings > File Handling in everyone's Lightroom.
    2.  After someone sets the rating, check the thumbnail in Library grid mode -- does it have a badge in the upper-right corner indicating the metadata needs to be updated?  If it does, then that means the metadata isn't getting written immediately back to the file:

  • Image Orientation/Rotation Problem in Lightroom 3.2 Final

This is a continuation of my previous post regarding this same problem in 3.2RC. It's still happening in the Final version of Lightroom 3.2.
    THE PROBLEM
Image orientation is not working properly in Lightroom 3.2. This affects newly imported images and images that were already in my Lightroom database -  and which have been in the database since Version 1.
Here's a screen capture showing the strange displays I'm seeing in  Lightroom's grid mode:
Notice the odd angle of the image. When I use the Rotate Photo Left tool, the display looks like this sometimes. After a second or so, it will snap to either a vertical or horizontal orientation by itself but rarely gives me the 90-degree rotation this tool should give. The image may flip 90-degrees or 180-degrees, there's no way to tell.
When I view the image in Loupe view or on my second monitor, the orientation shown in Grid view does not match that displayed in Loupe Vew. For this particular image, Grid view currently shows it as correctly orientated as a horizontal while Loupe view shows it rotated 90-degrees to the right. Shouldn't they match?
    BACKGROUND
I never had a problem with image orientation in any preveious version of Lightroom prior to Lightroom 3.2RC and 3.2 Final. So, it seems to be a bug in 3.2. I'm still using the same computer and video card I used with previous versions. My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium. Both Windows and Lightroom are 64-bit.
    HELP!
Is anyone else having this problem? How can I solve it?

The size of the catalogue is almost certainly not at play here.
FWIW, I recall seeing something like this once a long time ago on a Mac, possibly with Lr 3 beta, or Lr 2.x.  It went away with a restart. It almost looks like a threading issue, where a thread is suspended or preempted and then is lost or disconnected from the main UI thread.
I recall you can just rotate the image again and it will right itself.
Adobe fist-line support seem to want to use the number of images in the catalogue as some sort of catch-all.  The problem with this is that most of us can demonstrate that there is little correspondence with the number of image IDs in the database and many reported UI artefacts.
I'd keep raising this with them, and suggesting that the size of the catalogue is probably not at play here. As a tactic, you can ask what the maximum size of a catalogue should be, and if it is raw images or the number of changes to the images and virtual copies that is the problem, and if this can be verified by second- or third-line support.

  • Images Appear Different When Viewed in Photoshop CS4 vs. LR 2.7

Hello, I hope someone on this forum can help.
I have a series of high quality images that are catalogued using Lightroom 2.7.  Many were edited using Photoshop while others were edited in the "Develop" module of Lightroom.  All of the images look exceptional in both Lightroom and Brdige.  However, when I open some of the images in PS, either directly from Bridge or by using the "Edit in" command from Lightroom, they appear washed out and dull -- very different and much worse.  I always use the setting, "Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments."  The problem pertains to all images regardless of file format (JPEG, DNG, NEF, etc.) and regardless of whether they are opened from LR, Bridge or directly from the image using the "Open with" command in Windows.
This happens on two completely different set of monitors.  At work I have a Dell 2208 WFPt UltraSharp monitor, and at home a dual monitor setup with an Asus VE278Q and an LG flat screen (all are flat screen, high quality monitors).  I have a Lenovo X201s with 8gb of RAM and a high-speed i7 processor running Windows 7, 64-bit.  All of my Adobe products are up-to-date.  Windows Color Management shows all displays as "Generic PnP Monitor - Intel HD Graphics," and the Advanced mode of Intel's HD Graphics correctly identifies each monitor being used.  The problem is identical regardless of which monitor is being used and it does not seem to make any difference as to which color profile is associated with the monitor (I have two profiles added -- Adobe RGB (1998) (the default) and sRGB IEC61966-2.1).
Specifically, if I double-click on a particular TIF image in Bridge (where the preview looks great), it then triggers Camera Raw 5.7 - TIF, where again the image looks terrific.  The settings applied by Camera Raw are "ProPhotoRGB; 16 bit; 3607 by 2420 (8.7MP); 300 ppi" (although changing these settings makes no difference whatever when the image is subsequently opened in Photoshop).  When the image is opened in Photoshop it looks terrible -- dull and washed out.  I encounter the exact same problem when using my dual monitor setup at home, so I don't think monitor calibrations are the cause.
Strangely, I don't think this problem existed a couple of months ago.  I've been busy on a project and haven't used Photoshop since the end of this past July (of 2011).  As I recall, this problem did not exist then, so I'm wondering if a setting in Photoshop inadvertently got altered since then.
I have the following key settings in Photoshop's "Color Settings":
Working Spaces: RGB -- ProPhoto RGB
Color Management Policies -- Preserve Embedded Profiles
    Conversion Options -- Adobe (ACE)
I have the following key settings in Lightroom's "Preferences / External Editing":
    Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS4
File Format -- PSD; Color Space ProPhoto RGB, 16-bits, 300 dpi
File Format -- TIFF; Color Space ProPhoto RGB, 16-bits, 300 dpi
I have tried and tried to figure this out, to no avail.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, I think you're right.
Any suggestions for a cheap and easy way to calibrate my monitors?

  • Inline Figure Numbering: Best Practice

    Hi all,
I'm seeking input into what the best practice is for numbering images/figures that are placed inline in a document. I want these figures to have consecutive numbers and to move with the text as the text is edited.
The crucial part is that I want to do this in a way that I can put a new figure into the document, and all the following figures will be renumbered automatically.
I can do this if I use a different "Figures" master page that is applied to pages that contain ONLY figures and no text, but I can't seem to figure out the best way to do it inline throughout the document.
If I anchor objects inline, in the order that I want them to appear, the numbering works just fine, but as soon as I insert and anchor a new figure in the middle with automatic figure numbering, the newest anchored image becomes "Figure 1" and renumbers the entirety of the document.
    Thanks!

As long as I have all my figures I want to use, and I insert and anchor those figures in the text in the order that I want them to be in, it works. I am using a paragraph style for figure numbers.
The issue is that as soon as an update to the manual occurrs (a common occurrence in this manual) and I need to add a new figure (with a new figure number) halfway through the document, it numbers the new figure as Figure 1, and completely screws up the number formatting the rest of the way through.
I'm trying to set it up right the first time, so it works correctly for years to come.
