Re: Pavilion A4316F - sound then no sound

Hi,
Got my computer last week.  I had sound for days then nothing.  Suddenly it started working
AMD Athalon II 620 processor 2.6 ghz
6 GB
64 Bit
I've checked all types this - audio, video, dvd, cd, computer sounds, headphone - nothing works.
I've attached separate speakers.
I've updated, uninstalled & reinstalled drivers for the sound card, which is Realtek High Def Audio.
I've checked all the volumes & mixers.
I've checked cords both outside and inside the CPU.
I've run troubleshooting and diagnostics.  The graphics show the sound is there...for instance the lightsdance up and down the bar and the bars bounce from the speakers but I can't hear a thing.
Any suggestions?

Took the computer back to Staples where I purchased it today.
Their techs took a look at it and decided the sound card was dead.
They gave me a new computer.
Thanks for letting me post.

Go to the link below.Enter your Product Number as listed on Service Tag attached to bottom of notebook (may be under battery). You can also get the Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key. After entering PN, click Next ,then choose Software & Drivers. On the next page use the dropdown to select your OS (probably Windows 7 64bit). A list will populate with drivers. Download & Save the latest Audio driver.

If still no sound, try a hard reset, works sometimes.Disconnect all external devices first.
    1-remove power cord and battery
2-press power button for 30 seconds
3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.
    4-power on

  • HP PAVILION G6 SOUND ISSUE

Hey. I am writing regarding my unresolved issue at http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-PC-Sound-and-Audio-e-g-Windows-8/HP-Pavilion-G6-NO-SOUND/m-p/2... .
Basically, my headphone port is broken, and the switch inside thinks that headphones are constantly connected. This, in turn, stops my onboard speaker from functioning. No settings I change in Sound in the Control Panel make any difference, however I know that the speaker does infact work. It is just the port that is broken.  I am running Windows 8, and wondered if there was a registry edit I could make that would lead the system to believe that the headphone/phono port didnt exist, so I could then use the onboard speaker again.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Chris

This should help resolve your issue:
Press Start > Run > Type regedit > Choose My Computer > from menu select edit > find > Search for "ForceDisableJD" and press find. > once found change the value from 0 to 1  > restart.
    Hope this helps.

  • Upgraded window from vista to 7 on pavilion DV7 sound not working

Pavilion DV7 1468NR upgraded windows from vista 64 to windows 7 64 sound not working

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45073.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
If you still have no audio, open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services.  Check that the following services are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic
    Audio Service
    Multimedia Class Scheduler
    Windows Audio
    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.

    Hi,
Make sure you've installed other MediaSmart software first and then install HP MediaSmart SmartMenu last of all.  You can find all the MediaSmart software available for your machine under the sub-heading 'Software - Multimedia' on the following link.

    Hi:
See if installing the XP audio driver works...
Download and run this driver.  If it automatically installs the audio, great.  If not...close out of any error windows.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-42513-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
Go to the device manager and click on the multimedia audio controller needing drivers.
Click on the driver tab.  Click on update driver.  Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
The select Have Disk and browse to: C:\SWSetup\sp33443\CPL30A5a and select the Conexant High Definition Audio from the list and see if the driver installs.
    Then reboot.

  • Pavilion dv6 sound card

    Hi support,
I have a question regarding my sound card embedded on my notebook Pavilion DV6-2140el.
Could you please give me more details about the technical specifications of the sound card?
I would have also the model of the chipset. I am interested mostly on the output dB power of sound.
    Thank you

    Hello, @nicunicu
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're looking for some information on components in your notebook. I will try to help you on this.
Most of this information is actually on the computer. You can use the Device Manager to find out a lot on each component. This may help you on how: What if Product Specifications For Your Notebook Are Not Available On The Web? - use the section on "Find specification using Windows Device Manager".
You may also find some information on those in the Maintenance and Service Guide.
    I hope this helped.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

Using Windows vista 32, any idea where I can get drivers, I have tried many suggestions but no success.
Also the boot up will not let me select an external USB CD/DVD to boot with although it is recognised during boot but not in the bios.
A lot of notebooks don't support booting from USB devices.  So, it is unlikely that you can boot from an optical drive that is not the internal drive.
I will be happy to locate the drivers for you.  Do you have the same notebook as the original poster?  The dv6-6704nr?  If not, what is the model number of your notebook?

    Hi Perfection,
I understand that you have lost the sound when using your headphones.  I will try my best to help you with this issue. To better guide you, could you please give me some more information.
    1. What is the Model Number of your laptop? LINK: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
    2. What operating system are you running on the laptop?
Have you tried the headphones in another device to see if they are still working? If you have then maybe the steps in this document for Troubleshooting Sound Problems with External Speakers and Headsets in Windows 7 will resolve the issue for you.
I hope this helps, please let me know.

  • Hp Pavilion Lost sound

I have a HP running Vista (64 bit)  I had sound and then I just stoped working.
I driver seems to be ok and I have tried 3 pair of speakers.  All work on other items.
I did a system restore and checked all the mutes and volumes.  I am out of idea's
I have about 5 hrs in to it and am ready to be done.

So the sound just stopped working, what were you doing at the time? I'm not saying you deliberately did anything, but making sure. Does the system recognise the speakers (ie. in the system tray is there a speaker icon or does it have a red cross on it and say 'no speakers connected. If it refuses to recognise the speakers, there's a thread called 'brand new HP m8517c Vista 64 no sound.' Try looking on this thread for information. Brand new HP m8517c Vista64 with no sound!!! [ 1 2 3 ] You've checked the driver and so forth. Have you tried it with all the audio outputs, both front and back panel? Also, Check for yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager, if there are report back. Also try this. Run (type in start search box) 'services.msc' without the quotes. Browse down to the service called 'windows audio' and restart it. See if this works.

  • Pavilion dv8000 - Sound jittery/slow after resuming Windows

I'm using Windows XP Home. After resuming Windows, sound playback is sometimes slow/jittery. It's almost as if the sound is playing at about half-time. It comes and goes (seemingly) sporadically, so it's pretty frustrating. I've been having this for years, but never found a fix.
At first I thought it might be a Firefox and/or Flash thing, since I mostly notice this in playing of Youtube videos or songs on Pandora.com, but I found that it also happens in Winamp and other applications with sound.
I'm almost 100% that this doesn't happen after a fresh startup, just after a resume. In fact, if I'm trying to watch something longer on Youtube, I'll often just reboot so the sound (and accompanying slow playback) doesn't drive me crazy.
Besides rebooting every time I want to listen to/watch something, any thoughts on things to try?

    Hi:
    Try these two...
    Audio
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
    Modem:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=ob-471...
If those don't work, then I don't have any other suggestions you can try other than to read this guide for upgrading notebooks to Windows 7.
The info for yours should be found under Models, Level 3.
