  • Pavilion dv7-4070us hinge is pulling the casing apart

Link to original thread regarding this SAME issue, now marked READ ONLY. I bought my HP Pavillion dv-7 computer as my retirement gift in 2010. About a year or two after the hinge started to pull the casing apart and the fan at times would not kick in; the computer sometimes was so hot that I could not use it for fear of burning myself.  I brought this to HP's attention and, since it was under warranty, HP made arrangements for me to mail it to a facility in Texas for repair which I did.  How extremely frustating to once again experience the very same problems that evidiently  were never fixed correctly in the first place!  I stumbled upon the above READ ONLY thread to learn that there are numerous others who are experincing the exact same problems as me. It appears as thought HP has known for quite some time that there is a design problem and refused acknowledge it. Upon further reading, it appears as though HP has finally decided to adress these isssues and make the necessary repairs.  I certainly hope this is the case and that HP will repair my computer at no expense to me since the original repair was not effective. I sincerely hope that I will contacted by HP to reslove my issues. Based upon my on going computers problems and HP's response, I will seriously rethink purchasing HP products in the future.

I am having the same problem with my dv7t, it has been pulling apart for the past year. I tightened the screw which fixed the problem for a few weeks but it eventually came lose again. Today when I opened, it split open so much I was afraid I might snap something. I took the case apart to discover that a plastic piece in the hinge as broken and that the screw was so longer held by anything. I then typed by prolem into the forums and instead of learning that this is an isolated incident, I discovered that its a chronic problem. I perfectly understand that there is wear and tear on laptops, I recently replaced my hard drive and have had to change my battery. These things happen. But this is a physical problem that doesn't even have anything to do with the hardware itself and from where I'm standing it looks an awful lot like a defect to have a metal screw screwing into plastic. Is there anything HP can do to help beyond telling me it will cost about $200 to have fixed? Any assistance would be much appreciated.

  • Pavilion dv7-4070us Fail short DST (Failure ID PKVV5g-5525T4-XD003G-60QN03)

    Hi,
Last year I bought the HP Pavilion dv7-4070us laptop, running windows 7 64bit. Everything has been fine and dandy until recently. The past few days I have only been watching youtube videos and TV series, when one day I turn on my computer to find that it stays on the Windows 7 splash screen for an abnormal amount of time. This had happened to me once before, but for some weird reason, ( FYI: I am tech savvy, so this issue was a bit bizarre) it was fixed last time. However, unlike last time, the issue has not been resolved, loading time still takes like 5 min or more. Additionally when I ran the system diagnostics test, the hard drive failed the short DST with the failure id:  PKVV5g-5525T4-XD003G-60QN03.
Additionally I ran the seagate (samsung has "teamed" up with seagate) hard drive diagnostic with the same result, short DST failure, but long generic and short generic and smart is verified and passed. So I was wondering if anyone had this similar issue, and how were you able to resolve the situation. Again, the only thing I have done recently is only go on the internet to view youtube and TV series/drama, the only possible changes could be windows update. Other than that I really have not tinkered around with the system.
Searching high and low, it looks like I may have to replace the hard drive. However I am hoping to not have to do this since the warranty had just expired a couple months ago. If anyone could please respond or help I would immensely appreciate it! Happy Holidays.
P.S.. Should you require more relevant information, just ask. Thanks again!

  • HP Pavilion dv7-3165dx has stopped recognizing the DVD-Blu/CDROM

    Help,
My HP Pavilion dv7-3165dx has stopped recognizing the DVD-Blu/CDROM player issues.
Literally in last 24 hours.  all was working fine. then Stopped.
Device not working is : hp DVDWBD TS-LB23L ATA Device
Whirrrs like reading disc...even gets the disc icon on windows.
Have scoured these boards and tried everal of the solutions.....
    1.  tried uninstalling and reinstalling Driver as described on these boards... didnt work
    2. tried MATS on microsoft website....didnt work
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/
    3.  Tried the Revo uninstaller attempt .... didnt work
    4. tried the CC Cleaner attempt ... didnt work
    5. Tried the ATA channel delete ... didnt work
    6. tried the BIOS update  here : HP Mediasmart DVD failure - HP Support Forum
as additional clarification..... no physical damage to computer....Discs being used are all functional Blu or CD or DVD.
HP Mediasmart DVD is still not working.
NO installation of new programs prior to this going on.
My same fire wall program, anti-,malware has been on this computer since I purchased it 7 months ago.
    No software changes in system.
I do not use the Comodo firewall system either.
    Thank you

Have you tried installing a trial Blu-ray player. Don't use one from Cyberlink as it's too close to Media Smart DVD.
     Use Arc Soft
      http://www.arcsoft.com/estore/software_title.asp?ProductCode=TMT5P&gclid=COXEpJ6CqqcCFQEKbAodpQdSCw
----Will give that a whirl when I return home.
Have you tried the obvious and picked a Windows restore point to where it was working ?  -------Windows 7, in that particular machine isn't letting me dial back for an earlier restore point..... it isn't even letting me see dates....Believe me I would have been happy to dial back a week or two.  Not sure why, Havent been able to dig in that direction....was trying to be careful about not digging a deeper hole before moving all important work files and stuff to a different machine before toying with windows deeper.
Maybe the drive itself has failed, do you you have another HP laptop that you can try it in ?-----have several HPs...might try that soon.
Check "Autoplay" in the control panel.----have done the autoplay fixes that have been proposed in other chains of similar problems....no avail.
I will keep throwing ideas at you no matter how simplistic they may seem. I find that it starts people thinking in another direction.     --------Believe me, I appreciate it, just as long as it doesn't devolve into .....Is the machine plugged in?
Have you tried burning a DVD with it ?   Not yet, that is a good idea.
Try installing Image Burn and  see if the drive will create ISO files with a Blu-ray disk. You will get a warning that Image Burn can't do this, but continue and let it dead the whole disc. Let me know if that works and I will give you the software to play the movie from the ISO files.
     http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
Use mirror 8 provided by Image Burn.
What version of Media Smart DVD are you running ?  Was using the most recent release......then uninstalled it and went back a few versions... to one that was linked to in another similar thread.
    Thanks.

  • My speakers on my Pavilion dv7 stopped working out of the blue.

I've had my Hp Pavilion dv7 on Windows7 since Christmas of 2010. Now the speakers on it have stopped working and also when i plug in headphones i hear no audio when i should so I know this is not a problem with the speakers itself but the audio software. Again, this happened randomly and i cannot see a reason why it would just stop.

Hello confused 19.  Please read DL Cazes/post/06/17/2011 & Putney/post/06/16/2011.  1st, go to control panel>sound>right click on the speaker icon, enable if disable, check test & see what happens.  2nd, update the latest MS & HP updates.  I think the Rules of Engagement have been Changed.

  • Pavilion dv7 broken hinge

Looked at my DV7 4280us a little closer. It looks like the problem is with the hinge being too tight. Movement of the screen display eventually breaks the screw from it's plastic mounting. Causing plastic pieces to go everywhere. Then when the hinge breaks free it starts bending the cooling fins. Not only would you need new hinges but the complete bottom case. Seems like a very poor design.

The left hinge on my HP Envy broke yesterday. I take very good care of my laptop and there is no way I mishandled it to break the case. Looks like a design issue. Several years ago I had a HP laptop where the upper lid hinge broke. HP repaired the laptop as it was an acknowledged design flaw.
My current laptop is under warranty.

  • Hp Pavilion dv7- Recover Windows 7 without the disk

I reinstalled windows 7 home premium on my machine, using the same serial number as the one that came with the laptop (I found the serial number by downloading some software that scanned my computer and told me what it was).
After installing windows, it told me that it was not genuine. I imagine that it is because it wasn't a version of Windows that has all that HP software pre-loaded on it. My hard drive still has a "recovery" partition, but I have no idea what to do with that, or even if I can do anything with it anymore.
So how can I make my Windows 7 home premium genuine? Do I have to reinstall another version of windows 7 home premium with the HP software included? Where do I find such download? Since I don't have a recovery disk, can I use that "recovery" partition of my hard drive for something?
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi crabbattle,
The key for the original version installed on your PC only works with OEM versions of Windows.  You'll need to use the key that came with the retail version of Windows you purchased, or use the recovery software on the PC.
You can access recovery using the F11 key during boot or order discs from HP.  There's more recovery info here.

  • Selecting specific records out of the same table with PICS

    Post Author: nambi
    CA Forum: Formula
I have a Database table in which we have information for our paint codes,
This database when accessed through our will display the types of tests we do for the products we manufacture, we manually enter in these results through the software.  When I open up this same table in access I noticed that each test we do is displayed as new entry under the same product, therefore I have several entries for the same product code, and since we have several tests for each I am unable to specifically pull out the data I need.
For example I need to create a data sheet for our customers displaying the bake time for these all our products the Product code (formkey) is listed multiple times but all I need is to record the Bake (TargetAlphaValue) time. Out of this table I will also need to report on the Gloss. If I use the record selection I am only able to display one type of test although I will need to specify other types as well.  This is the area I have the problem with,
I have shown in a jpg what I am looking for, would anyone here know how to pull out only the TargetAlphaValue and associate it to the bake and formkey?  Then do the same with the Gloss test and pull up the TargetAlphaValue for that it would be of great help

Can you be more precise , please :
    - which table stores the people identities ? (I call this one Identity)
    - which table gives the class where the student works in (I cal l this one Claa_attendees)
    - which table gives the instructor of a class (I call this one Class)
If your issue is that you have one table which stores Itendities , and you need to display Student identity and Instructor Identity, you have to call this table twice in your query , using table aliases . I mean :
    Select Stud_iden.name, Instr_iden.name
    From Identity Stud_iden, Identity Instr_iden, Class_attendees, Class
    Where Class.clas_id = class_attendees.class_id
    and class.instructor_id = Instr_iden.people_id
    and class_attendees.student_id = Stud_iden.people_id
Is this what you need to do ?

  • Reference to the cycle posts with pics posted in this thread. Explain This!

Ok, I've been reading the posts on this forum, and noticed what people been saying about the mAh dropping on the batteries and so forth. Now the thing about my situation is that I've had my week 10 Mac Book Pro for about 4 months now. And I've gone through about 43 cycles (as of writing this post) and I use it alot. (pretty much everyday). Now the thing that I read in this post is that people been talking about how the the capacity drops from the original capacity. Mines used to be 5500. But now it's 5279. It's funny cause for a moment it said 5260 (like everyone else) if your wondering about how my current battery information (as of writing this post) here it is below.
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5279
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 4352
    Amperage (mA): -1269
    Voltage (mV): 11959
    Cycle Count: 43
Now here's the thing. Something crazy I noticed. And i just had to add pictures. Cause when I noticed it... I was like *** is going on? I even had to take pictures of it.
2 Days ago I was using my mbp and when I dc'd he ac power, it told me that it calculated a time on it of 2:45 min. ( i had been running it off AC power for almost 2 weeks) And that was with the light being green on the magsafe indicating a full charge on it when I dc'd it. I was like aww crap. my bat cell must be dying. Now I let it Discharge till almost dead, and I put it back to charge for the night. Now today I was using it reading your post earlier and I just had to go on and see if there was something going on why my max time from it usually being 3:30 went down to 2:45, thinking maybe it was a battery just not indicating the right info and needed to do a discharge and back to full charge on it since i usually always have it plugged in to ac power, and it went up to 3:34. And then it just kept climbing. I had the MBP on for almost 30 min, with usuage and noticed the above info and just had to take pictures of it to prove it. Here are the pics at imageshack that i just personally took less than 20 min. ago and directly uploaded to imageshack
    http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/5485/dsc02178hf9.jpg
    http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/863/dsc02179jh6.jpg

    http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/5259/dsc02183tl4.jpg
Now notice, I have the page to the original thread open in the back and it's showing the original thread that moved me to write this post. Now the crazy thing is that the time kept going up. Now I had the screen brightness set to medium. And airport has been on since I turned it my MBP. But it peaked to 4:24 or so with the MBP on for almost a half an hour. Now this is strange due to the fact that I've been using the stock bat on it since I got this MBP back in early May. I think i've made this as detailed as I can.
Now I've been writing this post for almost a half an hour, and it showing a time of 3:04 min as of writing this post. And I wasted almost 15 min. uploading the pics to the site. Can anyone explain why it is that the battery indicator is showing that its actually getting longer and longer and not only that, but i've NEVER had my mbp bat last this long. Not even when I first powered it up for the first time and did the bat calibration. I have'nt been working the processor to death, but it's just so strange. Furthermore, I have one of the bat that is on apples recall list, but I don't want to sent it in yet, till it's almost dead and then I really need a new bat. I'm gonna try to juice this one for almost the 1 year warrenty that this MBP came with and then about 2 months before send it in for a fresh bat. (trying to be slick and save some money and extend the use of my batteries since they ain't cheap).
Anyone out there got an explanation? Would love to hear it. If you need any further info, Just ask. I'll answer it.

Mac Book Pro 1.83 GHZ 512 Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    AirBruce,
This is normal behavior, and it has nothing to do with the reasons for recalling the batteries.
Your MBP will calculate estimated battery life as you use it. Every change in the sate of your MBP will affect the parameters used to calculate that estimate. For example, if you start out on battery only with a full charge, and you have your screen brightness turned all the way up, you might get an estimated time of 3 1/2 hours. If you then turn down the brightness but continue to use your MBP, the estimate will gradually be re-calculated, resluting in a longer estimate.
Launch some processor-hungry application, and the estimate will again go down. Sometimes very quickly. The indicated battery life is an estimate, and it is based on how much power your MBP is consuming at the time of the calculation.

  • Dv7 Left hinge pulling case apart? What the heck!

I have a dv7 that is very rarely used (I think I purchased it in 2012).  I noticed recently that my hinges are making a lot of noise/struggling.
Tonight I realized that the left hinge is completely busted and pulling the casing apart.  The laptop is clearly out of warranty, so I'm guessing I have no recourse.  I came upon another thread on this forum where HP was fixing the problem on other dv7's, but I'm not sure if those people were still in warranty or not.
    Any help or advice?
    Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem with mine! Same model, Envy DV7-7227CL. I've seen a lot of the forum posts about Envys in general having this issue. I've only had mine for 14 months, and it's been a stationary laptop to replace my desktop (also an HP). It's really upsetting that all you have to do is open and close the screen regularly for this to happen.
Mine hasn't broken away yet, but once I realized the case was starting to pull apart, I applied some eletricians tape to the area and stopped adjusting or moving the screen. Has HP offered you any solutions on repairs out of warranty? I'm pretty pissed that I'll have to spend money to fix what is obviously a manufacturer's defect, but I need my laptop to be able to open and close.

Enter BIOS by tapping away at the F10 key immediately after powering on. Is all system info complete there?
