  • Power switch wiring: I messed up: color/circuit diagram help?

I messed up as I was doing some work inside my 700 MHz eMac.
Managed to break one of the three wires on the power switch. Having done that before, I decided it was time to replace all the wiring with something longer and more substantial. All OK until I realized how stupid I can be: I failed to note the color-to-pin on the the little square 4-pin plug at the motherboard end of the power switch wiring harness. The socket has four pins, like this: :: Can someone tell me which is Red/Green/Black, with orientation, e.g. looking at the socket as it is vertically above the Firewire/USB/Ethernet/sound output socket panel? (That would be, obviously, with the monitor face down)
So some sort of diagram? such as:
    Blank . . Red
    Green . . Black
    Video out
    Ethernet
    etc.
    Many thanks.

    Hey G4,
I've got a 700 logic assembly out here and actually you've got it right.
If you look at that socket that the 2X2 plug plugs into the positions are (this would be in the true orientation of the plug where the bottom is the bottom of the computer):
    Blank . . Red
    Green . . Black
I.E. the top right slot is red the top left is open.
The two important ones are the red and the black. I've got tiny jumpers in the power button end of that cable. When I start the eMac out of the case I momentarily short those two leads together.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I read your post about the power light, and wanted to assist you! Check the BIOS version for both machines, and see if they are the same.  If different, then try installing the BIOS that the working machine has, on your notebook.  You can get the BIOS drivers for your product from this site: Drivers - HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15-b153nr Sleekbook Try checking the Power Management Options for both machines as well.  You can use this document to help you, if needed: HP Notebook PCs - Managing Power Options (Windows 8) Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.

  • Officejet 8600 Pro+ Power-switch lamp cycling bright then dim

My Officejet 8600 Pro+ printer is brand new, and is connected via my wired network. It's working perfectly so far. Wi-Fi and fax are both (deliberately) turned off / disabled & not needed.
The Power-switch has a nice green light to indicate that the printer has "power" OK - and the lamp seems to have two "on" states, namely 'dim', and 'bright'.
The printer seems to go into "Sleep Mode" OK, and the control panel turns off as expected after my preset "Sleep" interval. (I'm not using the scheduling options.)  It also wakes-up OK when I send it a print job.  Again, everything is fine so far ...
While the printer is in this low-power 'ECO' state, the intensity of the green Power-switch lamp varies slowly between bright and dim, on a roughly 6-second cycle - 3 seconds at 'bright', then 3 seconds at 'dim', and it never stops cycling - bright then dim then bright etc..
BUT ... and here's my question ... should this lamp be staying 'dim' while the printer is asleep?
Or, does the fact that it is returning to 'bright' every few seconds imply that it is somehow failing to STAY fully 'asleep'?
I can't find any clues about this in the printer's manual.
Perhaps I should raise a query with the HP Support folks, but I thought I'd ask here first.
Thanks in anticipation. Edited to add:
I'd be glad to know whether any other Officejet 8600 owner (or the owner of any other Officejet model) sees this same bright/dim behaviour on their Power-switch lamp?  Thanks.

Thanks pcwizard, I got the same reply yesterday from my HP Customer Care enquiry, and I'm satisfied now that my machine isn't cycling repeatedly into sleep mode and then 3 seconds later coming half "out" of sleep mode! I know the HP design folks may never look at these Forum entries, but I'd hint to them that perhaps this ambiguous "sleep" indication might be made an optional choice, so that I could choose a steady low-intensity light instead.  It's not an enormous issue of course, but in my little "office" space, this Power button is right in my line-of-sight as I work, and - even though I now know that my printer is perfectly healthy - the slowly-pulsing light had become a recurring distraction until I covered it with a little 'disc' of semi-opaque sticky tape   Thanks again.Colin

  • Power switch doesn't work

I am able to shut down my computer   FM2-A85XA-G65 MSI Motherboard but cannot restart using the computer power switch.  Have to open the case and press the switch on the MB (has a green lite on it) and then the computer starts and runs fine.  I must have set something incorrectly - Any suggestions?  Shouldn't have to open case, press a switch on the MB after a shut down.......right?   Thanks   JackTheBearTexas

Where do you have the wires for the switch plugged in on the MB? You either have a defective switch or plugged the wrong place on the MB, double check the wires and look in your manual for proper place to plug them in. You can check the switch with any cheap ohm meter.

    View Solution.

    Hello @Fred_W,
I understand that your power switch is not working and you require assistance. I am providing you with a guide on how to ensure it is plugged in properly below:
Step 1. What does the power switch look like.
The power on/off switch and the hard drive activity and power-on LEDs are contained in a single module.
Step 2. Where is the power switch located?
The module is mounted behind the front wall of the chassis.
Step 3. How is the power switch fastened to the chassis?
3 hooks on the module fasten it to the chassis wall.
Step 4. Where is the power switch connected to the motherboard?
I hope this information helps to answer your question. Given the age of the computer HP no longer carries the power switch so if it needs to be replaced you will have to find a 3rd party distributor. An online search or possibly a local computer technician should be able to locate the part for your.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a wonderful day!

  • Power switch problem

    Hi all,
I have a strange problem with the power switch, I means the switch on back of the Power Supply, not on the front panel. Just switch on the power supply, all fans in the case will immediately running! The system remain un-booted. Then if I press the power button, the system will boot normally.
My understanding is, when I switch the power supply, the whole system will do nothing, ONLY after the power on button, boot will start, fan will spin. Do you have the same problem? How to solve it?

I can't believe this would suddenly start happening, but this is a copy and paste (in italic)  from another thread on this forum.
False Start For Me As Well !!!
    Hello,
I've just bought and tried 3 different Antec Neopower power supplies on my MSI Neo2 Platinum motherboard (AMD Nforce3, socket 939) and I still experience the same problem :
Everytime I switch on my computer I hear the fans working, the disks starting but the power led remains off and if I do nothing the screen remains black. I have to hit the power button one more time in order to startup my computer. I do not have this problem when I restart the computer from windows. Moreover I could see that when I unplug the power connectors of my 2 raptors I do not have the problem, the system is starting the first time I switch it on (I tried different cables of course). I also removed the power supply from the case but it's still the same.
Precision : I NEVER had this kind of problem with my former Tagan 480W.
As I already tried with 3 different Neopower power supplies I now ask you for help. Please
Now that looks like a power issue.

  • Q35 av-650 gives nothing from power switch

Acquired a brick from one of my family members. A q35AV-650. Nothing AT ALL from the power switch. I have tried pulling the battery and pushing the power switch to dump the electrical. I pulled the memory and thought maybe the standby switch on the screen was stuck in the wrong position. The only thing I haven't done is take the whole cover off the computer. I figure if I'm going to do that, I'll replace the motherboard. Any suggestions short of that? Something that has made this the brick that it is? I'll try anything. Any hidden BIOS or power reset? Looks like it would be a great laptop.

There was a reason that you were given this computer, it doesn't work! If it worked perfectly, the family member would have kept it. But let's go for the obvious. Use a voltmeter on the power adaptor and make sure that you are getting the correct voltage. Both the power adaptor and the label on the bottom of the computer will show the voltages you should be seeing. No voltage or the wrong voltage and it won't work. Since the computer hasn't been working for awhile, the battery is probably totally discharged. You don't need the battery for the computer to work, so remove it. Check the contacts on the battery and in the computer. Making sure nothing is damaged or corroded. With your power adaptor that is putting out the correct voltage, reattach it to the computer. You should see one of the LEDs in the front of the computer lighting up. If it doesn't, it could indicate a bad LED or that the computer is not seeing that the power is connected. Push the power button and see if you can get anything from this computer. You should hear the hard drive spin up, the LCD screen light up and finally see some video. If none of these things are happening, you're right, you've got a brick.
If you are not a Toshiba-trained computer tech, I don't recommend working on their computers. The replacement parts are expensive and hard to acquire. Also the number of different screws used on the computers makes working on them a real hassle. Not like a desktop that can be opened up with just 5 screws!
I would recommend using the Locate a Repair Center icon on this website's home page and find a Toshiba certified repair center near you. Have them do a test and diagnostics on the computer. They should be able to give you a good idea of what you are looking at to get the computer working. Then you can decide whether you want to keep the 'brick' or not.

  • Zen Micro Power Switch Prob

I have had my 6gb Zen Micro for about a month now and have been very pleased. But this morning, to my horror, when I woke up and tried to turn it on the power switch wouldn'work. My Micro still turns on if you put the battery in, and the hold feature still works, but when I shift the switch to the left to turn it on or off nothing happens. I haven't droppped it once or messed with anything in it. I don't know what to do. Has anyone had this problem before? Does anyone have any advice on something to try or what to do?

My Zen Micro has recently developed the same problem. I contacted Support, and they have informed me that I have to pay a $25 fee to get it fixed, and that amount could grow based on the cost of repairs. Quite frankly, I'm upset. This is twice that the player has failed. I RMA'd the first due to a headphone jack problem (which was caused by faulty wiring, which Creative will refuse to admit). This second player has a similar issue. The electronic contacts must not be built/soldered correctly. I will not be recomending this player to anyone I care about, as Creative has proven to have terrible support and exquisitely terrible design. I will not be purchasing another Creative product, due to my lack of confidence in this player. Creative has not even made an attempt to solve my problem, only directing me to the self-guided website that merely showed how unresponsi've their support really is. They have now supplied me with RMA information for my refurbished player, to send into them. I will not likely send this player in. Instead, I'll go peddle the piece of junk off on Ebay, and take the money and put it towards a player that's been proven to be more reliable than Creative's Zen series - an iPod. I know that word is almost a profanity in these forums, but Creative hasn't left me much of a choice. Goodbye Creative, I hope you won't miss my money. As much as I don't like to support Apple, I'm going to now. So enjoy your angered and frustrated Zen users who you don't seem to want to serve. Maybe once you start making quality products again, I might consider buying in.

  • K7N2 delta power switch problem

I'm a first time poster, and a first time PC builder.  I recently bought all the components listed in my signature from newegg.  I was careful installing everything, but when I attempted to power it up, there was no response, nothing at all.  No fans, no diag LEDs, nothing.  The only response at all came after I shut off the switch on the back of the power supply.  About 5 seconds after removing power, there is always a quick high-pitched descending chirp that lasts about half a second.
I verified that the outlet and cable were good.  PS is set on 115V, and the rear switch was on.  Pressing the front button simply didn't do anything.  I confirmed the power supply is good - to test I disconnected the power supply from the mobo, but left the hard drive and fans connected and shorted the green lead on the power connector to ground.  Everything spun up.
I reconnected the power supply to the mobo, which was isolated outside of the case, and removed all components but the processor, heatsink/fan, and RAM.  I adjusted the thermal sensor under the processor to ensure contact, and added a little extra thermal grease.  Again, no response when the power button was triggered, either with the button itself, or by shorting the power switch leads on JFP1 with a screw driver.  The PSU wasn't putting out anything.
Finally, I tried the same setup again, this time shorting the green lead on the mobo power connector (JWR1) to ground with a paper clip from above while the power connector was attached to the motherboard.  All fans spun up, and I got diagnostic LEDs - Red, Red, Green, Green.
Is this indicative of a faulty power switch connector on JFP1?
    Any help would be appreciated...

    Hi Richard,
I have connected the power switch to the motherboard, to pins 6 and 8 on the JFP1 connector.  There is no response when the button is pressed.  If I remove the power switch leads and short the pins with a screwdriver, there's no response.  When I short the green lead on the motherboard power connector (JWR1) to ground, however, the system boots normally, with no other changes to the hardware.
Seems to me that the JFP1 connector isn't functioning.  I'm just curious whether this is a reasonable conclusion, or if there could be something else blocking the power signal.
    Thanks
    jack

  • Creative Zen Micro 6GB/Problems with Power Switch and Firmw

The power switch on my Zen Micro has died. I can't turn it on or off unless I 'jump start' it from a USB cable and leave it alone to go into idle shutdown. I've had this player just three weeks and this is happened and frankly I'm disgusted. But wait, my story get's worse:
So before sending it back to Creative I thought that I should at least exhaust every possible cure. First on my list? A Firmware upgrade to v2.22.05. I downloaded the program and set about installing the new firmware but halfway through the process it hung and I had to end it prematurely. Now what I had was a ZM that apparently had v2.22.05 but was not being recognised at all by my computer. Media Explorer wasn't picking up on it and neither was WMP although strangely when I connect the device it's there in the Device Manager...
So, check back with the website and it said to download an update for Mediasource and that should solve the problem. Downloaded the patch but then realised that I hadn't installed Mediasource on my computer (can't remember why I didn't though). Went back to the downloads page and downloaded Mediasource. Tried to install it but I can't. The reason? because my computer isn't detecting the ZM and I can't install it until it recognises that it's there.
As a last resort I thought that I would try to use 'Rescue Mode'. Seemed simple enough, remove the battery and hold down the power switch. Then put the battery back in and wait for the rescue screen to come up. Seems easy enough. Oh wait, I don't have a working power switch.
What I do have though, is a small piece of plastic and metal that I can't turn on, can't turn off, can't put any songs on, can't listen to, can't fix and can't be bothered with. I have a ?60 paperweight.
Anyone at all have any idea what I should do? I just want to put it all in a box and send it back to Amazon with a request for a full refund or a threat to take them to the Small Claims Court.

Although a failed power switch is not unknown, I only recall seeing two or three other cases of this. It's not common.
If WMP isn't working with the device having v2 firmware something is wrong. Unfortunately this can be difficult to fix, but take a look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.
MediaSource won't detect the player if there's some issue e.g. WMP0 not detecting it. You can of course also try installing Zen Micro Media Explorer (Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update to be specific) which has MTP support.
Are you are presumably under guarantee, and as you bought from an Internet store, it's best to return it direct to Creative. Contact Creative Support to arrange this.

  • HP Mini Netbook Power Switch

My sister is not able to power on her HP Mini 1010NR netbook.  I was looking at the HP Mini 1000 Mainteance ans Service guild and could not find a part number for the replacement switch.  Is there a parts manual and breakdown on this hardware area?  The netbook is out of warrenty, but I would like to fix the issue with a replacement power switch.
    Thanks for any help!
    Update:
I found part #506336-001 to be a "on/off switch and USB card" through a google search, but the service manual only states it to be a USB board.  Can anyone verifiy that tis is the correct part number?

I happen to own one of those.
There is no internal power unit, per se.  Notebooks and netbooks have power circuitry that distribute and rectify power to various parts of the system board.
The greates likelihood is that your power adapter is faulty. Does the power led light up when it is plugged into the netbook?
    Troubleshoot power/battery.
