Re: Portege Z30-A - Bios update 3.80-WIN using Win 7 64bit

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Portege Z30-A
Maybe someone was able to perform the upgrade bios in windows 7 64 bit?

I upgraded to 3.70 EC 1.4 as soon as I got hands on my Z30t-A and when I noticed the 3.80 was available I downloaded the zip file. None of the 15 files has started the upgrade process.
I run Windows 8.1, but the BIOS upgrade should function the same as for WIN 7.
Toshiba must have forgotten to add a setup.exe or something.
I haven't seen a release note, but I'm a big fan of fresh software.

    Thank you.

    Toshiba EU BIOS page does not provide any change log details.
    But on Toshiba US driver page you can check such information.
    The BIOS version seems to be the same:

  • Portege Z810 and BIOS update 1.80

    What does the BIOS update for Portege Z830 (PT224 / PT225 / PT22L), version 1.80 do?
    The description just says +"This BIOS Update adds increased functionality to your system."+, and I haven't been able to find anything more on Toshiba's website. The update was released 2013-05-24.

    I presume European Portege Z810 must be similar to US Z830/Z835 (PT224x/PT225x) so Ive checked US support page for BIOS update and here is info about BIOS updates:

    Hi there,
    My Portege A600-13Y BIOS is version 1.50:
    - should I upgrade to 2.00WIN?
    - I found this source for the biso upgrade 2.0 but there is no indication that this file is authentic TOSHIBA bios.
    No checksums, no ssl certificate, nothing. Is it possible to get it in a secured / authenticated way?
    Thanx for answers,

    > Maybe. But how do I know the site I'm connected to is from Toshiba?
    >Could be anyone (think phishing).
    Do you know what phishing is and how to works?
    If you check the URL in the internet browser then you should exactly know, that you are on the Toshiba page and not on any other 3rd website...
    > Website says it adds functionality. But it does not say which. For instance it's not possible with my BIOS to en/disable "wake on lan" without Toshiba-HW-Setup-Utility which runs on Windows. I would really like to have complete access to the BIOS without having to use Windows.
    The wake up on LAN can be disabled in BIOS too.
    The HWSetup is only a tool which helps to change some (NOT ALL) BIOS settings which can be changed in BIOS too.

  • Portege R500 BIOS update 1.60-WIN

    Hello
    I was looking at the 1.60-WIN BIOS update available on the download pages since 25/03/08.
    Anybody know what the update does?
    The explanation on the download page just says: +"This Bios Update adds increased functionality to your system."+
    Thanks in advance.

    Yeah, 0,85V is locked by the CPU. It's Intel's mistake that the CPU runs so hot and doesn't accept halt commands. I tried maybe 5-6 available apps and no luck. Also, Win XP makes the R500 much snappier and faster, and even thought it consumes less resources than Vista the CPU gets to 62C and fan start whining. Then the temp drops to 55C and the fan stops. It takes3-5 mins and the temp rises again to 62C and this goes on and on. With an idle system and the lowest cooling method! Crazy!! I'm afraid BIOS update and the higher temp threshold would not help because the limit should be somewhere near the absolute max temp that the CPU can handle and that would make the whole laptop very very hot. 80-90C?
    I wonder is it possible to force (hack) the CPU to accept low voltages like couple of years ago pencil tricks worked nicely.. or custom code for the halt command...

  • Stellite L40-14B Fail after BIOS Update 5.40-WIN

    after I run .bat file from archive ( steb by step as in instruction) it says "plise wait" , but nothing happened. I'm wait about 5 minute and restart manualy and enter in BIOS version was 5.40. After it i turn off notebook and it not turning on. What can i do?

    Unfortunately buddy... bad news... in your case something went wrong during the update procedure. BIOS update is always risky.
    In my opinion you should contact the Toshiba ASP which is responsible for you county and should ask for the help...
    As far as I know the guys could flash the ROM module again and tehn the notebook should run again.
    Good luck

  • Satellite A500-149: Would new BIOS update 2.00-win solve illumination issue

    Hi
    I need help because i have one toshiba A500-149 but the ilumination of keyboard dont work (FN+Z).
    I see a new Bios update and my question is:
    This new update 2.00 win solve that problem?
    this upgrate is secure?

    In my opinion the BIOS 2.0 update does not solve your problem.
    A friend of mine is an A500 owner and the backlight keyboard functions using old BIOS.
    I think there must be another reason for your backlight problem.
    Did you see this knowledge base article?
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD2603CL0000R01.htm
    in some cases you need to press FN + Y due to different keyboard layout.
    The FN buttons are controlled by value added package as reported by users above...
    Reinstallation of VAP should help you be sure you use the latest VAP recommend using one released for newer series like A660/A665
    But if the VAP does not help, and if backlight is enabled in BIOS, then there must be a hardware issue maybe the 2nd keyboard cable is not connected properly to the backlight connector loose connection might cause this

    > Why they announce me by mail to make update bios, if it's not necessary
    Who knows what improvements the new BIOS supports from my knowledge Toshiba doesnt publish any details about the BIOS improvements
    But again; its your choice you can update or not but you know that its risky so why to update it if nothing is wrong? Only to have a newest version?
    Well buddy Ive got a 7 years old notebook and I have never updated the BIOS.
    I know that a newer version is available but my notebook runs great and Ive got no troubles so why to do this? My opinion is; never change a running system. And I think its a great advice because since long time it has been working properly.

  • BIOS update in Windows 7 using DOS

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to update the BIOS of my ASUS Z8NA-D6C motherboard using the
    AFUDOS utility as recommend in the manual. I have created a bootable flash
    drive containing the "afudos.exe" application. However I was not able to boot
    the system under the DOS mode to proceed with the update (Can I do it on
    Windows 7?).
    Here is a link where I'm getting the information I need from:
    http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=k81cpN8uEB01BpQ6
    My desktop/workstation has the following specs:
    ASUS Z8NA-D6C dual Xeon LGA 1366 motherboard
    Intel Xeon E5520 2.27 GHz (only 1 CPU installed)
    6.0 GB RAM
    ASUS MIO audio card
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits
    Any guidance is very much appreciated,
    Paulo.

    Hi Justohelp and cdobbs, thanks for the insights.
    A few minutes after posting my question I figured what I was doing
    wrong and how to get it done right.
    First, I was creating a bootable windows 7 flash drive (as explained here http://kmwoley.com/blog/?p=345).
    That was the wrong part. :-) (probably a dumb thing to do...).
    Then I realized that I had to create a bootable MS-DOS USB flash drive. I could do it by right-clicking on the
    flash drive icon in Windows 7 and choose FORMAT with the option Create an MS-DOS startup disk checked.
    However this option is grayed out in my Windows 7 Ultimate (God knows why...).
    I could finally get the DOS flash drive using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool
    following the directions from the forum below:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/46707-ms-dos-bootable-flash-drive-create.html
    After that I copied the AFU238 application and the newest BIOS file (e.g. Z8NA-D6-ASUS-0602.ROM)
    to the root of the flash drive. Remember to rename the BIOS file with a name no longer than 8 alphanumeric
    symbols plus the .ROM extension.
    I then proceeded to restarting my PC. I used F8 during start up to choose to boot from the flash drive (but it is
    also possible to press DEL, go to BIO Setup and change the order of the boot device).
    In the dos prompt I typed the following commands a hit ENTER in this order:
    C:\>AFU238 /oOLDBIOS.ROM
    This is going to save the current BIOS file from the computer to the flash drive in case you need it afterwards.
    After the program runs for a few seconds type:
    C:\>AFU238 /iNEWBIOS.ROM
    Writing flash ...... 0x0008CC00 (9%)
    *Assuming that you have renamed the Z8NA-D6-ASUS-0602.ROM file to NEWBIOS.ROM
    Wait a few for seconds (or minutes) and it's done.
    HTH.
    Paulo.

  • Qosmio X300-13P - BIOS update

    Good afternoon,
    I have installed on the laptop OS Windows 7 64-bit (before was Winodws Vista 32-bit). Also I have decided to update BIOS, but on a site I have found updating BIOS only for Windows Vista 64-bit and nothing for new OS - Windows 7.
    My question: whether it is possible to establish on Windows 7 64-bit BIOS-update from Vista 64-bit and whether it is safe?
    Thanks.

    Hello
    > have found updating BIOS only for Windows Vista 64-bit and nothing for new OS - Windows 7.
    This would only mean that BIOS update is pretested and designed for Vista 64bit. So this is the safe way to update the BIOS and I doubt it would be possible on Windows 7.
    But as MasterG wrote, is this update necessary or just for fun? BIOS updates dont improve the performance, they only fix problems and if you dont have one, the update isnt necessary! ;)

  • BIOS Update Bootable or Update Utility

    Hi,
    I am in the process of installing all updates on my new W520.  Regarding the BIOS, I noticed there are two options as following:
    BIOS Update Bootable CD for Windows 7
    BIOS Update Utility for Windows 7
    Is it preferable to use one over the other?  What is the reason why Lenovo offers this choice?
    Thanks

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I can tell you that with previous models the bios update utility wouldn't run under a 64bit windows version so their solution was a bootable dos type disc that would do the flash, however I don't (personally) think it was designed well. The bootable disc will do the job just fine assuming there are no problems with the computer, but I had it destroy a computer because I hadn't realized that a used computer I picked up had a failing optical drive, so a few simple read errors on the disc and it flashed garbled data onto my bios chip and there is no easy way to recover.
    Since your unit is new and in top condition, it shouldn't matter, and even if the bios flash did ruin your system board, it would be fixed under warranty, but if I was designing the bootable disc I would have it pause with a "do not continue if your system appears unstable", instead of having it continue no matter what state the system is in.
    The update utility is my method of choice now, but keep in mind that you do need a stable operating system. a random bluescreen crash in the middle of a flash and you could end up with an unusable system.

  • X240 BIOS Update GIET76WW 2.26

    I've recently performed a couple of significant updates to my Lenovo X240 - upgrading Windows 8 Pro to 8.1 Pro, and subsequently upgrading the BIOS to version GIET76WW (2.26).
    Since the updates I can no longer change most of the BIOS settings. I can change everything on the BIOS Config menu, but nothing else except switching between quick and diagnotic boot on the BIOS Startup menu. I cannot restore BIOS defaults using F9.
    Can anyone shed any light on this issue - anyone experienced same, or know whether this is expected behaviour or if there is a way to re-enable all the BIOS settings?
    Thanks

    I do bios updates on my dell using a freedos livecd. The exe updaters work just fine on freedos.

    As the subject already states, my Satellite L650 - 1KR Part No. PSK1JE is totally OFF after BIOS-Update 2.40-WIN from bios-download-page.
    I tried everything: Press all buttons, take out the laptop battery, only laptop battery, ...simply nothing!
    My last hope is a hidden, very special key sequence for toshiba laptops or something like this.
    Of course my warranty is already over... :-(
    Please help!

    Sorry to hear you have such problem now. I presume something went wrong and now the BIOS chip is screwed up and in such situation you need professional help. Toshiba service provider can help you with this but Im afraid it can be very expensive.
    In the past I never had such problems but on the net you can find many pages with description what can be done. Visit this page and check if you can find something useful there. I mean you can try to fix it alone.

  • T430 Bios update

    I am having a problem with the T430 bios update utility.  But, I only have a problem when running the update using the -s option.  If I run the update without being silent then the bios gets updated.  If I use the -s option then I get this error message:
    Secure flash authentication failed
    press esc to continue
    Anybody have any clues?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thank you for the response.  Not to sound ungrateful on the response but referenced was using -s in first post.  With previous models (T60, T61, .....) when using bios update everything happened in Windows.  Now with T430 it looks like (guessing because of new UEFI) it does 2 parts: part of the update within windows and after reboot there is a message comes up:
    Flashing embedded controller
    Please wait
    This stays up for a few seconds and then restarts and then the error comes up.  The log file looks like only shows what happened in windows which went fine looks like from log:
    OS = Windows 7 32bit
    Driver Loading....Done
    System BIOS Version -> G1ET42WW
    Applying BIOS Version -> G1ET44WW
    System EC Version -> G1HT29WW
    Applying EC Version -> G1HT29WW
    AC adapter/Battery check....OK.
    EC Flashing....EC Flash completed.
    BIOS Flashing....BIOS Flash completed.
    Again, if I run the update without silent parameter it works.  Only if supply the -s parameter it has this "Secure flash authentication failed".  I did notice this SCT utility comes up during the manual update that doesn't come up during the silent update.  Here is a log of a manual update:
    OS = Windows 7 32bit
    Driver Loading....Done
    System BIOS Version -> G1ET42WW
    Applying BIOS Version -> G1ET44WW
    System EC Version -> G1HT29WW
    Applying EC Version -> G1HT29WW
    AC adapter/Battery check....OK.
    BIOS Flashing....BIOS Flash completed.
    Did notice something different about T430 bios update that didn't happen with T410 or older bios updates.  If you use the silent update the winuptp spawns a winflash32s.exe.  If you use the manual update then winuptp spawns a winflash32.exe.  Wondering if the winflash32s.exe has a problem possibly?
