  • Email message rejected for possible spam/virus content

When I do a Reply All on an email that includes my own Mail email address in the recipient list, the reply is delivered to everyone but me.  I get a [email protected] email with a Diagnostic code: "smtp;553 5.3.0 17.158.232.236 Your message was rejected for possible spam/virus content. Please ask your email provider to visithttp://emailadmin.registeredsite.com for resolution."
This never happened before.  The only thing that has changed on my system is that I have recently installed Webroot SecureAnywhere antivirus.  Any ideas?

I suggest you contact godaddy for some support using their mail service.

  • Mail: Outgoing emails have 'Possible Spam' in subject line.

When I send emails using Mail they are received with 'Possible Spam' added to the subject line. Of course they are not received at all by some providers like Yahoo, gmail and hotmail, also some others. I think it is a Mail problem because it does not happen when I use my provider's webmail rather than Mail. Help?

Who is your email provider? If your email is received by some people with the words "Possible Spam" in the Subject line, that's done by their email provider; it has nothing to do with Mail or Mac OS X. And if your email is being blocked by Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and Hotmail, that's something they are controlling. For some reason they may have blacklisted the domain of your provider for being a known sender of spam in the past.
The only way to cure that problem is to have your email provider contact the other email providers and try to get them to take you off their list of blocked or questionable domains.

  • Possible spam

recived a email from [email protected] asking me to do a support survey but I havent contacted support is it spam?

It's not possible to tell based on that; the sender address appears to be legitimate. Hover the cursor over any links in the email and see if they point to Apple's website.

  • Spam email (gmail) disappeared as I clicked on it

So first off, I know, don't click on spam.
I'm using Acompli on my iPhone 6. I saw a spam message (gmail account) and I click on it to then move it to the spam folder. Only when I clicked on it, it simply disappeared. It's not in spam, it's not in my All Mail tab, it just vanished.
Anyone have any thoughts? Did it launch some flaky trojan? Should I wipe my phone?
    Thanks!

I agree with Nik that this question is best answered by Acompli, but it is possible that the app had not yet finished syncing your emails. Those emails flagged as possible spam are typically moved automatically to trash or spam folders and in some cases, if they contain an identified virus, are deleted by the email provider. It could be that email fell into that third category, had not yet been reflected in your app, and was simply coincidence that it was moved or deleted as you were tapping it.
    Just a thought.

  • One mail client's outgoing messages flagged as SPAM

    Hi again,
I have a new problem that has cropped up. Our company is multi-location. 8 of our locations are able to relay outgoing mail through our mail server with no problems whatsoever. As it turns out, the problem was with the router configuration. Instead of having the computer on a private network behind the router, the computer was given the public IP address. I'm not sure how this relates to how the message and its header are interpreted by spamassassin, but reconfiguring the network and using NAT to allow incoming traffic to the computer seems to have resolved the problem.
I would love for someone who knows about this stuff to respond, although technically my problem is resolved.

  • Did someone send spam through my iinet mail account via my Mini Mac?

I am very annoyed with iinet. They locked me out of my email account with no warning or explanation. All my important mail comes via that account and has done for 6 years. Imagine all the places that need to use my address to contact me - dozens and dozens.
I rang them and they claimed my email account and computer have been 'compromised'. I have a Mini Mac, 10.5.8 and a 2011 Macbook Pro. I use the Mail programme and my messages are deleted from the server immediately.
Is this even possible that my Mac has got a trojan? They have not sent me an iota of proof that spam was sent from my email account or my computer. But they claim their tech department traced the spam mail to my IP address. I just can't believe this.
Their solution is to make me change my password. As I believe the spammers are only spoofing - adding my email address to the 'sent' field - not hacking - I won't do it on principle. This is what iinet wrote. Please advise me how to respond because I am not changing my password if they are just being silly.
I understand that this is frustrating and a bit hard to understand. The processes involved with tracing issues like this are not easy and we have to stop all possible spam or compromises working its way through our network so no damage can be done.
Below is a basic outline of what happens:
    1.            Operations Centre (OpCen) discovers spam or a compromise.
    2.            OpCen trace the IP back to a username.
    3.            The customer’s account is locked and active internet session terminated.
    4.            OpCen create a PTS task outline the issue.
    5.            CC contact the customer and confirm all threats have been removed.
    6.            CC create an ETS work request (WR) advising the steps taken to prevent future incidents.
    7.            The WR is reviewed and the customer’s account is unlocked by OpCen.
For whatever reason our OpCen team have traced your IP to your username and have followed our usual procedures to stop this from affecting our network.

Internet Service Providers needs to be forewarned, users frequently get spoofed about spam.  Shutting down their account due to suspected spam only weakens their reputation as an Internet Service Provider.
Spoofing can make legitimate e-mails look like spam simply by editing the reply-to address on your e-mail.
Sadly, spam e-mailers harvest legitimate e-mails by infecting various Windows machines and servers and grabbing addresses off their addressbooks.    People who mass e-mail you for legitimate purposes may actually be the harbingers of this problem because someone on their mass e-mail list may have the spam virus.  The way you can prevent it is:
    1. Never publish your genuine e-mail on any website that doesn't securely hide it.  That includes Apple Support Communities postings.  You can edit your Apple Support Community preferences to hide your actual e-mail address in the profile (which I see you've done!).
    2. When the recipient of a mass e-mail from a friend, tell them to only use BCC in their future mass e-mails.
    3. If sending mass e-mail yourself, do it only from an account you can afford to be bombarded by spam, or be spoofed.
    4. Encourage the use of mailing lists that don't publish a person's e-mail, including social sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn.
    5. Inform internet service providers that by setting up blacklists, they end up unintentionally making a file whih if compromised on an insecure machine, can backfire, and only create more spam.  Any internet provider blacklisting you is doing just that.

  • Help with Radio Buttons in Form

Hi. I have inherited a website that has a simple form. I have
been asked to edit the form adding 4 radio buttons to collect the
consumer's satisfaction with the content of the website. I have
added the radio buttons using Dreamweaver MX, however, they do not
work as I expected them to. I was under the impression that radio
buttons did not allow the user to select more than one option
because when the user selected a different option, the first option
was unselected. My form is currently allowing all four options to
be selected at the same time. The code for the form is below. I
have changed the @ in the email address of the form to prevent
possible spam. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like you need to change the name= to the same on
each radio button, if they all have the same name then you can only
check one. Then click the form in the behaviors panel and be sure
the radio button name is inserting into the proper db
    column.

  • How do I open a .msg file ?

    Hi,
My g/f uses a web internet account for her emails http://webmailrr.aruba.it Each time I send an email or often when others do it decides it is spam and isolates it saying << (11K)
    Display attachment: %s / Download attachment: %s>>
When you try and open the message it appears as a "message.msg" clicking on it says I need Outlook which I don't have on my Mac although I have Word and Excel as part of Mac Office 2004. I have tried downloading Mailraider but doesn't work either.
I have also tried adding my email address to her on-line address book.
My g/f has no patience with computers and if doesn't work first time and quickly she deletes the email thus losing important emails.
I am trying to show her how brilliant Macs are but this is not helping!!
Any suggestions please (other than get a new g/f!) ?

  • Link to URL - How to Open a New Tab

I have created some PDF's in Adobe Acrobat and I am hosting them on my website. So for example here is one: <possible spam link removed - kglad>
I have created links to URL's using the Link Properties tool, Actions tab. However it will only open the URL in the same tab.
Is it possible to have the URL's open in a new tab?
    Hope someone can help.
    Heath

You need to use the target="_blank" attribute to make links open in a new window or tab. Where the link actually opens is up to the browser settings. So if you have Tools > Internet Options > Tabbed Browsing Settings > "Always open pop-ups in new tabs" selected, a target="_blank" link will open in a new tab. Note that this type of link will open in a new window by default on most browsers.

Your computer has nothing to do with it. Some computer, somewhere -- Bulgaria, let's say -- is sending out spam. The spam has your email address as the return address. Your address is just a string of text. They do not need access to your computer or your account or anything to do with you. The spammers might even have picked an address at random that just happens to match yours. Some of the spam messages bounce or are rejected by the addressee. Those bounced messages do not go back to Bulgaria. They go to the specified return address: your email account.

  • Php form problem and question

I am a new web designer who is not code savey yet. Anyway
during the various sites i have designed i have used 3 different
forms that process and email it to me using a seperate php form, 1
in flash, 2 from a standard html form on a windows server. All have
been uploaded, to the site, tested and worked fine. 2 are in old
sites, one in my current site. Recently all 3 forms stopped working
and while they looked like they worked fine they no longer actually
sent anything. I had a big email arguement with my host and finally
they added this line into my php script "ini_set
("sendmail_from","[email protected]");" email address is example here
and they added another form to my site called "php4-cgi-fcgi.ini."
Then my curent form started working again. I haven't changed
anything, and of course the host never informed me of any changes.
So why did this need to be added for my form to work again? Does
this mean they upgraded to another version or something? Ihad a big
arguement with them because they refused to tell me what they did
that stopped all my forms from working, they kept acting like it
was me or my provider that caused the problem, when i am positive
we were not the problem. Any thoughts?

doing a google on "ini_set ("sendmail_from" gives a lot of
    info.
summary- the form script you are using is probably not
    setting a default
"FROM" email address, so the host has phpmail() reject it as
    possible spam
    abuse.
The .ini files the host added to your site correct the
    problem. They change
values for php to use within your hosting domain.
What php script are you using to send the emails? It is
    probably out of date
if it doesn't address this issue.
Off Topic: suggest never arguing with hosting support. Even
    it the person at
the other end of the phone is an 18 year old drone not
    earning their salt.
Move the site if needed. Develop social engineering skills to
    get things
    done.

  • Third party email abuse/scam

I have just received an email on my macbook pro which is apparently from a name who is in my address book, but it most definitely was NOT from that individual. Instead it was a scam asking me to send money to Madrid of all places via Western Union ! Anyone else had this ? Is there anywhere I can report it ? And if so is there any chance of chasing these criminals down ?

Thanks folks - very helpful comments. So it appears there's no resolution of these spammers? Are they just nuisance value ? ..ie. stupid kids stuff with no real purpose ? Or do people really fall for it ? ie. actually use the Western Union to transfer funds to that address in Madrid as requested by the spammer ? I certainly get loads, as does everyone, of stuff but notably from completely UNKNOWN SENDERS, many of whom seem to be otherwise in 'legitimate' although I'll continue to get my 'medicines' and 'treatments' from the NHS.
Couple of other things things occur however before we leave this alone. It was interesting that the Mac email system DID identify this email as 'possible spam' despite the sender being an 'APPARENTLY' legitimate contact (a relative of mine actually). Would this be on account of a different IP address being used by the spammer ? (Incidentally I did also ID the email as spam on the ISP site as a double check).
The other thing which occurs to me is that suppose my contact/relative now wishes in the future to email me, will he now be recognised as a 'possible spam'..mer ?

  • Mail to a large number of

    HI
I was wondering if there exists a software that handles group mails for a large number of recipients (like 400 adresses) at one time.
I think mail doesn't accept more than 50 adresses /mail at a time.
I used to use a PC based software called sarbacane designed for mass emailing (not spamming, that's understood .. !), with charts, statistics and remailing automatically to adresses that did not function etc ... does that exist for Mac ??
Thank you anyone who has the answer !!
    Stephanie

    Hello Stephanie
I do the same, and ran into the same problem. It was my ISP that was limiting how many emails I could send at once. I 'think' (because I'm not a tech person) that Mail takes the message and puts 50 or more address at the top. ISPs will see this as a possible spam mail out. I worked around this by creating groups of less than 50 email addresses (using Smart Groups), but after awhile it got very tedious having to sort and create criteria to keep each group to just less than 50.
There are commercial programs that manage large emailings. I use 'Mailings', and it works fine. I know that there are others as well. Most have a free trial version.
Instead of sending one message with lots of addresses, it sends the email multiple times - once to each person in your list. It takes longer (but it works in background, so who cares) but I have been able to send out to hundreds of addresses with no issues. Hope this helps.
    Seth
